- Set a few days after the Zenith-Azurai had recently fled the World Tournament Area where a giant battle had taken place. A battle which had seemingly attracted warriors and fighters from all over and created a large amount of drama and commotion. Due to this fight a few inner-discoveries had been made about Azurai and a few discoveries of the world around him had been made too, like evidence of barbaric apes who stormed the globe looking for destruction. Because of these revelations Azurai felt as though it was time to step up as one of Earth's protectors and start the next chapter in his life. But before this could happen Azurai needed time away from others, and plenty of rest, so he had found refuge on an old withering mountain. Azurai had spent the past few days on an old mountain. This mountain was gigantic in size and was circled by trees, rocks, deformed structures and rivers. It was an old mountain but with it's age carried a strange sense of history and need for exploration. The amount of history in which this mountain carried was vast in size. Azurai could feel it and this was why for the past few days he had taken it as his temporary home in order for him to rest and regain the strength he had lost from participating in such a gigantic battle. Azurai sat by the river side, only millimeters away from the river itself. With his guard down Azurai watched fish swim by as he idly waited for a fish appropriate enough to be his dinner. Nai-Ran could feel her head pounding excitedly in her chest as she gazed up at the majestic looking mountain that towered before her. Today was the day that she was finally ready to get out there and do some exploring. The young woman had buried her space pod, leaving nothing but an empty cave for any wanderers to come across during her absence and departed for the mountain that she had been admiring from a distance for the past few days.
The young Ryashi woman had a single goal in mind for this little trip of hers. As much as she enjoyed the cave she was staying in, it was awfully bare for her tastes. Her desire was to find some suitable objects to spruce it up with, preferably supplies for a proper bed chamber and some cooking supplies. While the serpentine lass didn’t really have anything to barter with, she figured she would cross that bridge when she came to it. Besides, she was just excited to see what a human civilization looked like. Come to think of it, she hadn’t even met a human yet.
With a deep breath and overwhelming curiosity as to what she would find in her travels, Nai-Ran began to slither up the mountain path. After a while of following the trail, she noticed that familiar uncomfortable feeling of the chilly mountain air nipping at her skin. Was the desert in which she made her temporary home in the only warm place on Earth? She knew she hadn’t been to nearly enough places to accurately make that call, but it certainly felt like it. At least the view was nice, she supposed. She could see so much of the desert from here, as well as the jungle that she traveled through with Houri in order to get her home.
Eventually, Nai-Ran came across a river. Judging by the direction it was moving, she guessed that it flowed into the stream that ran though her favorite hunting spot near the base of the mountain. The river wasn’t the only thing that caught her attention though. A little further up the bank, a lone figure sat staring at the fish that inhabited the river. Nai-Ran tilted her head to the side as she observed what she guessed was a man by his posture and how he was built. Was he human? Again, she hadn’t actually met one yet so she wasn’t really sure. Perhaps he could give her directions to the nearest city.
The man didn’t seem to be paying attention to his surroundings since he continued to stare down at the river. Nai-Ran would have to make the first move. She cleared her throat and folded her hands neatly in front of her as she slowly approached his position. ”Salutations,” she called out in an attempt to get his attention. The serpentine lass stopped roughly ten feet away from his position and coiled her tail beneath her. ”Might you be able to tell me how to get to the nearest human city from here?” she asked. Nai-Ran hoped that her phrasing wasn’t too strange by specifying that she was looking for a ‘human’ city. She wasn’t sure if he was aware of the Florian colony that was nearby or not.

”Salutations,”
”Might you be able to tell me how to get to the nearest human city from here?”
A soft, feminine voice came from behind Azurai catching him completely off guard. Azurai was quick to jump, spin and take a step backwards as his feet broke the surface of the river at a harsh pace scaring the fish away. After having only just turned around to face the owner of this soft voice Azurai was quick to spin around as he humorously dove into the water, flapping his arms about as he tried to catch the now-aware fish.
"No, no, no, no, no!!!"
Azurai forgot the person was even there as he screamed out to the world around him, but really only intending to speak to himself. Azurai hadn't eaten for the past four hours and for a growing monk who had only just recently gotten out of a large battle four hours was an hour too long. Azurai had grown rather hungry. Right now anything would help satisfy his rumbling stomach but fish was what he wanted. Azurai slowly got up with his head sagged down low. Azurai turned towards the soft voice's location and pointed in the direction of the nearest city.
"It's that way, a long way that way."
Azurai had taken no notice of this woman's serpent like features as he was too depressed at the loss of his food. With his head still sagging, and paying no attention to the person before him, Azurai began to walk back towards the shelter he had made. His shelter which was located at the top of the mountain.

Nai-Ran was shocked to see the man panic when she spoke to him and fling himself into the river. He flailed around for a bit before dragging himself back out looking rather defeated. She could hear his stomach rumbling from where she sat; a feeling of guilt washed over her when she realized that she was responsible for scaring the man’s meal away. He didn’t even look at Nai-Ran when he pointed and said that the nearest city was a long way away. With that, he slowly began trudging further up the mountain.
The young woman grimaced at the river, and the fish darting frantically back and forth after being startled. She didn’t have much experience in hunting anything that lived in water. The rigorous survival training that she had undergone back home didn’t really cover that since there wasn’t much water to practice in. However, Nai-Ran had tried it a few times and had an eye for some of the more subtle movements that the fish made. She had found that they didn’t taste so bad either when she couldn’t find any land dwelling creatures. It was a shame that she had to get herself wet in order to catch them.
Nai-Ran sighed, not really wanting to get wet, but realizing that she was going to feel bad all day if she didn’t at least try to rectify this situation that she had caused. She cautiously uncoiled herself and slithered up to the river bank. One of the larger fish immediately caught her eye, and she patiently watched it swim back and forth. The predator within was showing itself. When the time was right, Nai-Ran’s tail darted into the water and emerged just as quickly with a terrified fish wrapped tightly in the tip. Though, she almost lost it out of shock with how much colder the water felt up here. She didn’t even think that was possible!
After pushing back the feeling of discomfort from getting her tail wet, Nai-Ran removed her gloves and grabbed the fish by the tail. It felt cold and incredibly gross, but it was better than getting fish slime all over her gloves. The Ryashi repeated the process a few more times before she was satisfied. With two decent sized fish in each hand, she quickly slithered off in the direction the man had wandered off in. He hadn’t been moving very fast, so at least he didn’t get too far.
”Excuse me!” she called out to him as soon as she caught up. ”I wanted to offer up my sincerest apologies for interrupting your hunt. If this offering doesn’t suffice, it would be no trouble at all to acquire more.” With that, she bowed her head low and held out both her hands in hopes that he would accept the still-flailing fish. With any luck, the man wouldn’t hesitate. She wanted to wipe the slimy residue from her hands as quickly as possible before she ended up gagging from it. ”Also, I still had a couple of questions if it wouldn’t be too much of a bother to answer them.”

”Also, I still had a couple of questions if it wouldn’t be too much of a bother to answer them.”
Azurai grabbed the fish from the snake-lady's hand and joyfully threw it into the air, putting the palm of his hand outwards and blasting it with a quick and delicate Ki Blast. The Ki blast shrouded the fish as it seemed to appear as though the fish fell completely through it. Going from fresh, wet and slimy to cooked, crispy and delicious in seconds. Azurai quickly chowed down the fish leaving behind only the head and spine of the fish. Azurai smiled at the lady, still not noticing her serpant features, and nodded at her.
"Please do ask them, but if you don't mind you may have to follow me up the mountain. I still have jobs to do."
Azurai turned around and began to walk up the mountain expecting the snake-lady to follow. Azurai's sudden gleeful attitude was something he hadn't had the chance to earlier express. His time on the mountain had given him a new demeanor and outlook on life. Azurai was in a much happier place and wasn't afraid to share this place with others. Maybe this was why he hadn't noticed the difference of this snake-lady compared to others, because he no longer saw a difference. Each of Azurai's steps up the mountain resembled a soldier marching home after a long battle. Azurai took brief pauses between each step as he collected sticks from the ground so that he would have resources to build a fire with. As he was going about his day he waited for the snake-lady to follow and ask whatever she needed to know.

Ki, the inner flame...
... Why was it so damn hard to focus?
Chimi sat and tried to relax, perched on the edge of a boulder, sitting by a stream, which lazily trickled into a much larger river further down the mountainside. Over and over in his mind, the images re-played. He looked back on all the times he had managed to summon up his inner energies, and give them physical form. He was strong - he'd trained well beyond the level of most professional athletes - but the use of ki energy; which was no challenge for many individuals weaker than Chimi, was still not quite within his grasp. He had summoned it up in moments of great desperation, when it was do or die - but it wasn't just a reflex action every time. He'd had to stop and focus, find his center-point. But, when he was out of danger, he could not seem to find a way back into that strange place where the focus dwelt. It was not that he was distracted by things around him - it was not difficult to ignore his surroundings, a skill he had learned all too well when training back in the Dami Clan village. But there was something blocking his access to that place of inner calm, something that eluded him. Was it some aspect of his mindset when he was under threat? Did the adrenalin trigger his abilities? These thoughts and dozens more raced through his mind, over and over, on an unending circuit. A circuit that would not end until he could summon the energy within.
Once again, he decided to try and access his ki. Hopping to his feet, he planted them squarely apart, and held his arms out, hands above his head, fists clenched. He shut his eyes, and began to let the world around him grow dim and quiet. When all he could hear was the steady thump of his heart, and all he could feel was the tension in his tightening muscles, he tried again.
At first, there was nothing. He could sense no inner power surging to the surface, nothing. But then, after what felt like an eternity, as his muscles began to cramp, he felt it. The sensation of power - energy, burning hot throughout his entire body. Chimi grabbed onto that sensation, and began to home in, immersing himself in the ebb and flow of the power as it coursed throughout his diminutive form. He waited and observed, coming to understand the patterns of its motion. The tiniest twitch of a finger could cause a disturbance in the tides of his life-force. Now, all there was to do was find a way to bring that energy together, focused into one place, at one time.
Slowly, but surely, his fists uncurled, fingers raking the air in a claw-like position as he slowly lowered his arms, bringing his palms together in front of himself. The energy rippled, swirled and ebbed to where it was needed. And then, in a way that words could not explain, but somehow felt perfectly natural, Chimi began to influence the flow. Steadily his energy dimmed across his body, he could almost feel himself cooling down as the power collected in his hands. He dared not open his eyes to see if he had yet produced ki energy, for fear that the distraction would break his concentration. But the heat was growing steadily more intense. He held back a surge of joy at his nearing success. The slightest imbalance could ruin everything.
Just as the power came to a point where Chimi felt as though he had none left in him that was not already focused, something lanced across his senses with the disruptive force of a thunderbolt. An enormous aura of ki energy, far beyond Chimi's own strength. Not far away, but he had not noticed it until now, so intent he had been on his practice. But this split second of shock was enough to throw off his concentration. With a howl of frustration, the energy released - and detonated right in his face. He was sent hurtling through the air, downstream. With a splash, he plunged into the icy waters of the river.
He could not swim, and the current was dragging him too fast to get a grip on any solid objects to gain purchase and attempt to free himself. It was all he could do to keep his head above water, flailing and screaming for help as the current grew even stronger, dragging him towards who knew what!
If somebody did not pull him out, Chimi would soon find himself plummeting down one of Mount Paozu's many towering waterfalls, to the rocks beneath. He would be lucky to survive.
"Heeeeelp! I can't swim!"

A look of relief appeared on Nai-Ran’s face as he removed the fish from her grasp. There was still some of the residue from the slimy scales that remained on the palms of her hands, but the main problem was taken care of. The serpentine lass watched as the man tossed all four fish into the air at once and flash-fried them with a quick blast of ki. That was certainly an interesting way of preparing them. Nai-Ran preferred a more traditional method of preparing her food herself, but it would be good to keep in mind in case she ever got into a pinch.
While the man was chowing down on the now crispy-looking fish, Nai-Ran took the opportunity quickly dart over to the river and give her hands a rinse. A shiver went up her arms and down spine at the feeling of the freezing water covering her hands. Why would anyone ever find this stuff appealing back home? Just because bathing oneself in water on Appodorra was considered exotic and luxurious, were other Ryashi actually masochistic enough to take part more than once? Well, at least her hands weren’t slimy anymore.
”My apologies for that. Fish may be tasty, but I never want anything to do with them when they’re raw,” she explained as she slithered back over to him, putting her gloves back on at the same time. The man then continued up the trail as he had been before, though noticeably more chipper this time. Nai-Ran followed, staying a few feet behind him.”Understood. Feel free to stop me if you think I’m becoming too talkative or nosy. I’m aware that sometimes I can be too chatty for my own good.” This may have deviated from her objective a bit, but that was all part of the journey. Besides, the young woman was always looking for decent conversation. It was a little hard to come by in the middle of the desert.
“Are you... human? I know it may sound strange, but I’ve never actually met one before. I was told by a friend of mine that humans are the main inhabitants of Earth.” Was that too straightforward? Randomly asking someone what species they were was still a new thing to her. Back home all she had to do was check to see if they had a tail like hers. If they did, they were obviously a fellow Ryashi. If not, all anyone was ever concerned about was the fact that they were a tourist.
“You say that the nearest city here is a ways away... Do you know what it’s called? Would there be a place to barter for some cooking supplies or bedding? What is it exactly that’s used for currency on this planet?” Nai-Ran was absolutely full of questions. Hopefully her inquisitive nature wouldn’t drive him away. She hadn’t even asked anything relating to legs yet, though she was awfully tempted to. The young woman would need to be patient for the time being. She figured it would be best to try to space out her more bizarre questions. Besides, the ones about how human society worked were far more practical.
Suddenly, Nai-Ran’s pointed ears began to twitch as she heard panicked gurgling headed in their direction. She spotted something being carried down the river by its strong current, flailing wildly. The figure looked rather short, but nowhere near small enough to be a fish. He was screaming for help and declaring that he couldn’t swim, though it was a bit difficult to hear between the gurgles and gasps for air.
She wasn’t looking forward to dipping her tail into the freezing water again, but she wasn’t one to just sit idly by while someone drowned. After all, she couldn’t swim either. If she were ever to find herself in the same predicament, she would want someone to do the same for her. “Hold that thought.” With that, she slithered over to the riverbank and watched carefully as the figure was swept closer and closer. “Just like a big fish,” she muttered under her breath as she poised her tail to strike. Once he was close enough, Nai-Ran’s tail darted forward and tightly wrapped itself around one of his arms, roughly yanking him free of the current’s clutches.
“The river’s a lot stronger than it looks,” Nai-Ran commented out loud as she slithered away from the river and back over to the man she had originally been speaking to, still dangling the small man she had just pulled from the river by his arm. She gently plopped him down on the path next to the two of them. “Are you alright?”

Azurai continued to stroll along the mountains soft ground listening to each question Nai-Ran asked him. With every few steps up the mountain Nai-Ran would ask a new question, it was as if her questions were in sync with the amount of crackles the sound of twigs breaking beneath Azurai's feet had provided. Azurai picked up bits and pieces along the way whilst listening to Nai-Ran's questions but just as Azurai was about to answer them all he stopped in his tracks for a split second. Azurai felt the sudden shock of another power level as a white ray of light which could only be detected sensory shot through his mind. Azurai was quick to spin around, still holding onto his many bits and pieces, as he looked out into the distance. During this time Azurai had not noticed his new friend slither away back to the river bank. Azurai's senses snapped back to normal as he noticed his friends power level slowly head towards the one in the distance. Azurai was quick to scan the area as he ran towards his new friend and the power he had sensed, bits and pieces still in hand.
As Azurai arrived at the dangerously alluring river-bank he was quick to stop in place as his mouth dropped wide open and the bits and pieces he had vigorously held on to dropped to the ground. Standing before Azurai was his new friend but not as he had noticed her earlier. Azurai's new friend stood there with her tail wrapped around a tiny man, a tail Azurai hadn't noticed. Azurai dashed around his new friend keeping his mouth open in amazement. Every new angle revealed a new feature about Azurai's new friend, she was certainly something he could have never had imagined.
"That's... amazing!"
Azurai just couldn't believe his eyes. First the revelation that great apes walked the planet he thought he knew everything about, and now serpent-like creatures which closely resembled humans had joined them. Taking no notice of the little man Azurai continued to look at Nai-Ran in amazement. Azurai didn't mean to make his new friend feel uncomfortable or like a specimen, he was just excited to have met someone so different.

Swirling, icy-cold pain stabbed at every inch of Chimi's body as he scraped across the rocky riverbed, tumbling through the bitterly-cold waters of the river. His lungs felt as though they would explode if he did not catch his breath soon, but all he could do was flail his limbs and pray that he somehow got his head up above the water. But, the journey went on, the pain growing ever more unbearable, and his opportunities to breathe grew fewer as the strength was sapped by the cold and lack of air. He could not believe it, the greatest champion of the Dami Clan - drowned in a river, without so much as a witness!
But then, as he felt his last vestiges of strength ebb away, something thick and powerful coiled around his arm, before wrenching up and out of the water, dragging the little blue-skinned fighter with it. Suddenly, the pressure and the cold were gone, followed by a sense of freedom, of warmth and the blessed ability to once again breathe. His vision was blurred, and he could not see much, but his arm was grasped by some kind of... Tail, or possibly a tendril. He could hear muffled voices, but the water had yet to properly drain from his ears. He felt almost weightless, save the slightly-uncomfortable tightness around his arm as he was dangled and carried along by this strange being. He decided to just focus on breathing, fulfilling his system's almost-life-threatening hunger for oxygen.
Chimi got another unwelcome shock when he was, without warning, released, leaving him to fall flat on his backside. It didn't hurt much, but it certainly wasn't a very dignified landing. He blinked a few times, shaking his head to try and get the water to pour out of his ears. Tilting his head to one side, he noticed another blurry shape close by, just as his left ear cleared, and he regained a degree of accurate hearing ability.
"That's... amazing!"
Blinking one more time, Chimi's vision finally cleared, and he could now see a man in robes looking with fascination at a long, serpentine tail - at the front end of which appeared to be a humanoid torso, looking back at the pair.
"Gee - thanks for your concern! It's not like I almost died or anything!"

”Umm... thank you?” Confusion was evident in her voice as she watched the man’s sudden reaction to her appearance. It was kind of odd that he had waited this long to notice that she had features that weren’t at all human looking. Was he really that busy earlier that the fact that she had a tail completely passed him by? Either way, he now looked her over with a sense of wonder in his eyes, completely ignoring the small man she had just fished out of the river with her tail.
Nai-Ran was used to having eyes on her due to her social status back home, but not at all like this. It felt kind of unnerving to say the least. Was this what was in store for her when she finally slithered into a city? She hoped that this would be a special case, but somehow knew that that wouldn’t be true. Nai-Ran didn’t know how she would feel about a whole city of people staring at her like that if this was how she felt with just one pair of eyes.
Nai-Ran looked over to see the man she had grabbed from the river had his eyes opened and was speaking. He didn’t seem too happy at all to be ignored. ”My apologies for the rough landing. Getting my scales wet like that isn’t comfortable at all, especially since the water is so cold. How do the inhabitants of this planet stand it?” she asked rhetorically, shaking the tip of her tail violently in order to try to get the last of the water off of it. Unfortunately it only served to make it feel colder.
”Are you alright? I know getting washed down river couldn’t have been pleasant, but are you injured from however it is you fell in in the first place?” Nai-Ran asked rhetorically. Hopefully the first guy wouldn’t spend too long gawking at her. It wasn’t becoming any less unsettling as time went on. Besides, she still had questions that needed answered. ”I wish to apologize for the delayed introduction. My name is Nai-Ran of the Rassuto, though I would prefer it if you didn’t refer to me by the full title. Simply Nai-ran will do nicely. What might I call you?” she asked, looking back and forth between the both of them.
