Pin raised an eyebrow. Sam had known Mizuna, helped her escape a marriage? Pin didn't like the implications of that one bit. He'd need to have a conversation with Sam sometime soon, if he could get a hold of the bastard. If Sam had anything to do with Pin's father's death, that would put a serious strain on their business relationship. The sort of strain that comes with one business partner shooting the other to death in a dirty back alley and leaving the body for the Saiba rats.
Still, he'd give the man a chance to explain himself.
"All things considered, you dodged a bullet," Pin said, "I don't know if the Coliflos were any better, but Mizuna is Grade A, certified batshit crazy. And you were spared growing up on Vegeta. It's a nice planet, but they're not exactly kind to people that are different. Anyone who figured out that I'm an android definitely treated me differently...up until recently, at least. Blue hair would have gotten you a lot of unwanted attention there. It likely still would, but..."
Pin paused, realizing what he was about to say. He hadn't planned on making any statements like this, and he could tell he wasn't forcing it. Apparently, he meant it.
"You have me to keep you safe now."

“My father was great,” she said in a rush. “The other one, not so much…” From the look on Pin’s face, though, she felt she owed him more of an explanation. But it was late and Nana would be back from work soon. Stifling a yawn she said, “We should...pick this up another time.” As good a start as this was, she didn’t want to ruin it with too much information all at once. As he spoke of being different she nodded. Even on Shikk she felt it, that difference, every day of her life. People made it known she wasn’t welcome in certain places like SSE official events. Some children wouldn’t play with her because their parents didn’t let them or they just thought her too weird… Being different was something they both seemed to know a lot about.
At those last words, though, she brightened considerably and gave him another hug. “We can help take care of each other…I should go,” she said, pulling away. Perhaps they’d be the team she always dreamed they would become, after all. At those last words, though, she brightened considerably and gave him another hug. Perhaps they’d be the team she always dreamed they would become, after all. Looking back until she couldn't see the ship anymore, Kay flew back to the small attic apartment she shared with Nana to tell her guardian all about this. Well, maybe not everything.

When Kay hugged him, he was still shocked, but this time he was quick enough to hug her back. Her father was the nice one? He knew something about that. It was odd, Kay was as different from Pin as someone could get, but he felt like he understood the girl, and that on some level she understood him. He couldn't help but think that she'd deserved a better life than the one that had driven her to search the cosmos for a robot to call family. That by itself was immensely fucked up.
She hugged him again, and this time he didn't hesitate at all before hugging her back. It was still kind of awkward, but he was starting to get used to it. He could tell the girl was tired, though, and didn't object to calling it a night. He had some more repairs to do on the hull, anyway. He took his helmet off her head and laid it on one of the seats nearby.
"Come back anytime, Kay. I'll be here."
He watched the little girl fly off into the night, shaking his head. What the hell had just happened?
