Hannibelle Evensong loved Namek, she truly did. And despite recent events where some of the Mazoku got big ideas in trying to help her competition, Arynx, by taking Belle out of the picture, she still loved Namek and its people and culture. Normally peaceful and quiet, she often did some of her best song-writing here. Namek wasn’t the only planet she loved, though. With her job, she got to travel a lot - to see it all. Namek was only the current stop on her tour and a few extra concerts got added in at the last minute during what was supposed to be free time. But Arynx’s ship broke down somewhere on Earth so it looked like he’d be stuck there for a while, which meant that Belle got to pick up his slack.
It was one of those concerts she set up for now. Her next stop was, ironically, Earth, and they weren’t extending her stay on Namek, just adding more shows in the time she was there. The Dragon and the Lambs tickets sold out within the first hour they went on sale the day before and she sighed. It was a fight to get the prices to her shows so low to begin with, because with all the shows she did, Belle hated the idea of her fans spending so much money just to see her show. Besides, the more affordable it was, the more people that might get attracted to see her for a first time…
“Hey, Han.” She turned, spotting Willa and Jacklyn coming out from behind the curtain separating the crowd from ‘backstage.’ Two of her little lambs joining the Dragon on the stage, where were the other two? As if reading her mind, Jack said, “Fred and Maison are almost ready.”
Looking at the two with her, they couldn’t be more different. Jack, with her red Brenchian skin, had Konatsian blood, she was Freddie’s opposite in almost every way but the two had always been thick as thieves. They even shared the same father and had been best friends before they’d met the rest of the group. And then there was Willa. Graceful, almost delicate looking, the Saiyan-Human’s big, blue eyes and light brown curls framed her face in layers. The other two girls would be out soon. Fred, a Brenchian-Konatsian hybrid with blue skin that almost matched Han’s, was tall and slender. Long, platinum blonde hair and eyes the color of clear ocean waters near the shore, Freddie was definitely the most beautiful of her Lambs. A classic beauty, as it were, but they each shined in their own ways. Maison, a Kabochan-Saiyan hybrid with a sturdier build than Fred, had short, spiky blue hair and rich, brown eyes. Voluptuous was one word for Maison. Strong, able, fierce, loyal...those were the ones Han would have chosen. Her team of Hybrids misfits had found each other and then the Lambs had found the Dragon.
As if on cue, the other two walked on stage, dressed for rehearsal. No point getting into their stage outfits now. No, the five women set up. Fred grabbed the bass guitar, Maison on lead, Willa on keyboard and Jack on drums. All were backup vocals, too, and Belle grabbed her own guitar as well. She and Maison shared lead guitar position, but there was never a dull moment on stage. Everyone held their own weight and contributed. Yes, Belle could have split using her multi-form ability and been a one-girl band, but this way was more fun. She’d tried that route when she first started and it proved itself lonely time and time again. When she’d met the Lambs and the Pink Dragon went on tour with them one year, with them opening for her, the five had become fast friends. Before Belle joined them, the Lambs had been more divided, but with the fifth honorable member added, things changed for all five girls for the better. Later that same year they announced their merger to mixed reception, but by now most seemed to celebrate their teamwork.
The five became more than they were, stronger together than they’d ever been apart. Friendship forged and tested time and again, their odd number always ensured a vote to g one way or another. With mutual respect and love, the girls really lived the dream up on stage every night with their best friends - with their family. Home wasn’t a place, it was with those you love and whom love you in return. That stage for them right in that moment was home.
Family doesn’t end in blood. Sometimes, that’s not even where it begins. Hannibelle, herself, had the blood of three very different people making her who she became today. But two of those people weren’t family, they were donors either long-dead or retired and she’d never met either of them. And what of her creators? Tyler Swyft was as cool and hard as the papers believed her to be warm and caring, the opposite of Nature Evensong who was her wife. Although she shared Tyler’s DNA, she felt closer to Nature. The two powerful, female bio-engineers had created Belle to be the daughter they’d never have and, also, to beat down Arynx and Rock in general. She was built to be the new face of Pop, and it worked, and with Tyler their relationship felt more business than anything else.
Still, she did owe the woman her existence and believed that they fought so much partly due to their shared DNA.
And then there was Nature. Mother Nature did care about her. She cared about Belle’s well-being, about her feeling and the things she went through. Nature had always been there for her to keep her on track when she might have swayed, to stop her from doing stupid things or to inspire her when needed. During a brief existential crisis they’d kept out of the news, Nature counseled Belle and told her to follow her heart. If her heart said to leave the industry, then that’s what she should do and damned be the consequences. In the end, Belle had put her acting career on hold, focusing more on her songwriting and charity work and, yes, her fans. Always and forever her fans came first because without them she’d be nowhere.
A drumroll brought her back to the present and Jack’s voice rang loud and clear. “One, two, three, go!” The band came together in music and harmony, Belle’s voice calling out into the air like something out of a fantasy. Their music was their lives, their livelihoods and their passions - without music they would have no purpose and each girl their felt it in their very bones and breath.
It was almost three hours later when they broke with the ten lucky fans who won the meet and greet with the band. Sometimes they charged for it but at last minute events like these, Belle preferred a lottery based system to change things up a bit. The paid ones tended to be longer, more intimate, and these free ones short and sometimes a bit rushed but the fans were always happy in the end.
And the girls took to the stage once more, their sparkling and shining outfits they’d worn in the meet and greet adorning their bodies and flashing in the stage lights. Tonight was going to be a good night, Belle could feel it in her blood which practically sang in anticipation. The crowd cheered, smiling faces of the front row just visible, and Belle smiled back, waving at the horde. She bent down, touching hands as she passed them by, letting the other girls do the same before they all took their starting positions. The music began to play and everything else faded away. It was just the Dragon and her Lambs, now, and the all encompassing music swallowing them whole.
