It's come up a few times now, so I thought it might be good to start up a discussion on what sort of knowledge (about canon characters), would actually be known these 2000 years later.
Also more generally, it also details a little bit on the history too.

Personally, there is a few things on there I'd be inclined to tweek, but for myself here's what I think for some of the Canon Characters:
Earth:
Krillin is known by wise masters of the Turtle school as the second master of the art, who came to carry on the legacy of the original Turtle Hermit(Some rumours say this figure was an actual Turtle, while others claim he was Human).
Similarly Tenshinhan of the Crane School is also not widely known except amoung the masters themself, who have researched their school's history and taken interest in it's roots. Even then, Tenshinhan is recoded to be a man of solitude, leaving little to speak of his everyday exploits.
Both schools have been known as rival disciplines, with the Crane school having a chequered past over it's years.
Younger generations may not respect the significance of these mighty martial artists, but those who have mastered their corresponding Ki forms surely respect them as revolutionaries in an age where Ki control was hardly even known to exist.
A Scholar by the name of Gohan is accredited with the 'discovery' of Ki control as an abstracted, scientific subject and brining it to the general public though his book. Probably considered by most as some dusty old bookworm, some scholars believe he had a closer link to the legendary hero Satan than most initially thought.
Satan, the legendary hero. Of the old figures he is perhaps one of the most well documented, A hero who evidently saved the planet on multiple occasions, from the mechanisations of both an evil alien and an evil android, as well as being the longest standing consecutive winner of the ancient 'Tenkaichi Budokai' tournament. He is said to be the inspiration for many modern legends. Debate has often arisen over whether the 'super saiyan' that saiyans accredit with taking residence on Earth, and defeating the intergalatic Tyrants of old, was in fact the *human* hero, Satan, misconstrued with their own fables.
Vegeta:
Personally, I'd think Goku and Vegeta have become lost under this greater myth of 'the Super Saiyan', A legendary warrior who is said to appear once every thousand years.
More specifically a verse of the legend details one such warrior who destroyed the galactic Tyrant of Arcose before coming to claim Earth as their own, and was said in some versions of the tale to have spawned a family here. Those few Saiyans who believe the Earth part of the legend find the human notion that this is a simple misconstruing of Satan to be laughable at best, or downright offensive at worst.
Namek
Nail has often therefore become a figure of personal virtue to the leader of the warrior clan. Representing Duty, Honour and Humility, the tale of his service and sacrifice is said to be a guiding pricipal for everything the warrior clan's leader should be, guardian to the planet namek and it's Grand Elder.
For namekians, Dende is considered a role model to all, especially young dragon clansmen. He came to receive the position of Earth's Guardian, a title of greatest honour(second only perhaps to Grand Elder of Namek them self) for only the most pure of heart. Having a namekian Kami has become a traditional practice, with many venturing to Earth on 'pilgrimage', following spiritually and physically in the footsteps of this role model. When the time comes for the Kami to pass on their mantle, many namekians have been known to flock to the namekian settlements on Earth, to see if they are worthy of taking this role.
Arcose/Wider Galaxy
Frieza is likely more known, as he was a heavy galactic presence whose family drastically shaped the cosmos, many worlds were taken under the banner of the world trade, and many countless others erased at their hand. The Arcosian Empire is comprised primary of ex-World Trade races -and the home world of Frieza's original people - and while a less tyrannical and totalitaran rule is now in place, the primary virtue of social darwinism remains. Those who gain power are there because they are the fittest for the job. They were strong enough, or smart enough, to ascend the ranks.
Cooler is similarly seen as yet another historic conqueror, his empire expanding over a different region of space but his story otherwise similar to that of his brother's. Arcose itself was gone at the time of his reign, but most records attribute him as a more soldierly tyrant, known to have mastered the enourmous power of his true form and even been rumoured to boast a 'fifth' form beyond. (though it is debated over whether this was perhaps simply a fabrication designed to bolster his reputation among his rapidly expanded empire). Later rumours indicate that a large 'machine planet'(presumably an enormous space-ship), cut a swathe across this same region of space before apparently being disabled in unknown circumstances.
Kold's role was largely unknown until the restoration of Arcose. Known as a 'Frost Demon' in their records, he was an intensely evil being whose power was far above any of his contemporaries, perhaps some form of mutant - a trait passed on it seems to his offspring. He is thought to have been responsible for Arcose's destruction(though records are ambiguous or lost), few having escaped, and even now the repercussions of the cultural shift his rise caused still shapes the dominant arcosian mindset - the destruction of arcose being attributed as a key factor in their shift to a galactic, ruling presence. (the people of arcose previously being known to keep to them self, and harbouring a less power-hungry governance than the system still currently in place.)

Well, I guess that gets the ball rolling, so any thoughts/suggestions/etc. ? Is the direction so far seeming good, or not so much?

The other characters are not likely to be known. Despite his contributions, Goku has been all but lost to history, as he was never much of a public presence, happy to live quietly with his family and friends. Uub was a protector of earth, but did not leave a wide enough legacy to truly consolidate his place in history by name. Members can inquire on a case by case basis though
Vegeta:
((this one below is kinda taken more directly from the history thread linked at the top))
Bardock, former Low Class warrior, became King of the saiyan people after their planet was restored. After overthrowing the previous ruler the throne became a title that it's owner must defend if challenged. He is recognised as a great warrior, and young low class warriors often strive to shake their title as this historic king once did.Personally, I'd think Goku and Vegeta have become lost under this greater myth of 'the Super Saiyan', A legendary warrior who is said to appear once every thousand years.

Namek
I tend to think Namekians are a little more familiar with their history(post cataclysm), though they still wouldn't know the micro details.
The son of Katas, who came to call himself Piccolo, is also known to be a warrior of great virtue, a pure hearted super namekian. He has inspired many a young warrior within the clan, some of which venture to earth to train as this legendary warrior did. It is said in the ancient memoirs of Elder Moori that the Original Elder's guardian, Nail, combined his body with Piccolo to form one being in Namek's time of need, and that this warrior helped protect both Namek and later Earth as a Hero of virtue and honour.Nail has often therefore become a figure of personal virtue to the leader of the warrior clan. Representing Duty, Honour and Humility, the tale of his service and sacrifice is said to be a guiding pricipal for everything the warrior clan's leader should be, guardian to the planet namek and it's Grand Elder.
