Everyone was silent as the Pale Rider lifted off, departing from its hanger from within Sleet's ship. Porsalynne sat quietly in her seat, looking around the cockpit. Cipher was absent, leaving Dr. Latchkin to fly the ship. There was a mood of defeat that hung over them all. "The coordinates are set in," the scientist explained, sitting back on his seat, "The ship should be fine on its own, but I'll keep an eye on it, make sure nothing happens." Porsalynne nodded as he looked back towards the rear of the ship. The instant they had boarded, Cipher had disappeared into his room, leaving them out here. Once the ship was on a nice, level cruise, Porsalynne rose to her feet. Charlene looked up at her mother. "Mom?" Porsalynne looked down at her adopted daughter with a warm smile. "I'm just going to check up on your father, ok? Just, wait out here with Dr. Latchkin, ok?" She could tell that the girl wanted to see her father as well, but knew better. She nodded, settling back in her seat. Porsalynne gave a small smile, tussling her blonde hair before turning and quietly walking to the back of the ship, opening the door to their room and stepping inside.
The room was dark. Cipher hadn't even bothered to turn on the lights. Thankfully, Porsalynne's mechanical eyes allowed her to see just fine. Cipher sat on the bed, his head hung low. He didn't even look up at she entered. As the door slid shut behind her, she took a step forward. "Cipher?" she asked softly, "Are you ok?" She knew the answer, but it just felt right to ask anyway. "I don't know what to do..." Cipher's voice was quiet, seeming almost devoid of all life, "I just...I just want to stop all this fighting...all this killing..." Porsalynne stepped towards him, crouching down to bring herself level to him. "I know you do," she replied soothingly. "Nobody listens...nobody cares..." Cipher continued, "The Saiyans don't want peace...The Arcosians don't want peace. Seems like everywhere, everyone just wants to fight. To just keep killing eachother over and over again." Cipher slowly looked up and what Porsalynne saw just broke her mechanical heart. Those eyes. Those beautiful green eyes were just filled with such soul crushing sadness that Porsalynne could just feel the misery radiating off of him. "Why do I even bother?" he said, the sadness he felt making its way into his voice., "I can't change anything. Nobody wants to listen. I can't even protect anyone. I couldn't even stop them from hurting you!"
Porsalynne's heart sank. She remembered that time, those horrible suicide bombers had almost killed her. She knew how much that failure on Cipher's part hurt him, and now his diplomatic failure was bringing all that to the surface. Cipher's face fell again. "Maybe I should just give up. Go back to being the silent little robot everyone's used to." Porsalynne suddenly reached forward, cupping Cipher's face in her hands and bringing his face up to look at her. "Don't you ever say that!" she said, trying to keep her own emotions in check, "You're not some mindless robot, and nobody will ever agree with that. You are Cipher 24, a man with a good heart and a soul better than anyone I know. I love the fact that you try to bring peace to this universe, how you always try to protect all life. That just shows how good of a person you really are, and I wouldn't have you any other way, even if you fail."
Cipher stared, eyes wide before tears began to form. "It's just...so hard..." his voice began to crack, "It's always so hard..." Porsalynne blinked back her own tears as she pulled Cipher close, resting his head against her chest. "I know it is...I know." She held him comfortingly as she heard him, for the first time in her life, began to sob.
