Alternate suggestion! Combo breaker!
Healing is one of those abilities that can really define a character and - I believe - shouldn't be limited by race. In the past, I played a Doctor Arcosian, Reikiko's thing was originally healing, now we have Letrune... I see no reason why it has to be restricted to just certain races, or certain styles.
But I agree it should be something that not everyone can use.
Instead of making it a restricted special, I propose that we include it as its own form of special which requires no teacher but does require a cash investment.
Otto's healing technique makes a good mechanical basis for it, so I'd suggest the following:
Tier 1 Healing - 500 zeni (allows you to start with a 'healer' as a PC) Tier 2 Healing - 5,000 zeni (much better healing requires a significant cash investment for 'study') Tier 3 Healing - 10,000 zeni (the ultimate healing techniques!)
This would allow healers to exist as a PC Archetype, would not be much cheaper in the long run than just buying your own palace and getting it that way, and would count towards the limit of 3 specials ever for any character - meaning that you are locking in 'healer' as a very important part of your character concept.
If we need to give namekian healers a significant benefit, I'd suggest that Dragon Clan namekians start with Tier 2 healing for free rather than Tier 1, which anyone else can buy.

How about that very basic healing could be bought, or that healing as a tech closes off the tier 3 attacks? I mean we got regenerations and ability to breath vacuum... I wish healing not to be race restricted, but a commitment from the character.

The idea of healing closing off tier 3 attacks is a very interesting suggestion. I like that quite a lot - it definitely represents a significant investment for the character.

Personally I prefer it being contextually approved, provided we nerf it a bit perhaps?
As it stands, it is a Senzu Bean for free. There's no KP cost, it doesn't take any charge time, and it fully heals the target. This is an amazing skill! The problem is its a mere SU. If we keep it this strong, it should instead become a special that is taught by Guru (and perhaps one could make it themselves with a Palace or School if they're evil/Namek is dead again.)
If we decide to nerf it instead, I propose we keep it entirely context based.
For example: Vocado is a ruthless Saiyan warrior. He is a total jerk-bag, and has no connection to his spiritual side. He can not learn healing under any circumstances unless he's basically force-fed the info by Guru.
Meanwhile, Bing is a peace-loving Human, who, alongside being Kami, spent a long time living amongst the mystic Namekian people. He can learn Healing.
Context, like Otto seems to be against, will help us decide who it makes sense IC to allow learning this skill.
I'd also like to see us open our eyes to re-flavored healing.
An android like Breech might not be able to use his spiritual connection to heal magically, but he is an EXPERT in robotic engineering. On the field, he can repair a fellow android as quickly as someone sticking on a bandage.
I also have an alternative idea for those who want to learn healing, but we decide to limit it vastly: just re-flavor your Senzu Beans, friends! It might seem like a cop out, but if we come to that decision, it's basically the only option you'll have.

Here are my thoughts on healing, as I've already said in the Staff Skype chat. I don't think it should be an easily accessible technique since it opens the door for abuse. I think it should be awarded either through learning from Guru, or as a case by case basis. I also like Letrune's idea that taking healing would lock a character out of the higher tiered offensive techniques. It kind of locks them in as a support-style character.
My thought of how it should actually function in battle is it would sort of work like a Senzu Bean mechanically at the cost of 3KP and the healer putting themselves out there to be targeted. It could be used multiple times per thread(though we'd have to be careful about Zenkai bonuses). They just have to build up their KP again between each use, as well as keep putting themselves in harm's way whenever they try to heal anyone. Thoughts?
Edit: Also, maybe make a ruling to prevent the person that they've just healed from blocking any attacks for them so there isn't a risk for an endless cycle of heal/block > fight > fight > heal/block? Going to have to be careful so that it doesn't turn out to be OP.

Zuni As it stands, we already have a cash based system for healing, and that is reflavored senzu beans. A healing technique that cost money would have to be weighed against the effective cost of just buying senzu beans instead (which also restore KP, healing does not) Letrune While locking out Tier three attacks wouldn't be a problem for Helix personally, im wondering if guru taught healing would have the same restriction? Bing Gan If you are thinking about nerfing healing, I wouldn't be opposed to a nerfed SU1 heal that costs 3 KP and works as a once per fight. However, similarly to how SU3 Telepathy is locked, SU2 healing (the current balance of healing) should be locked to students of Guru. Tania I think having SU1 healing cost three KP, the largely accessable one, would make sense, but the hard to access healing should not. Perhaps we could clarify that you could only get one zenkai boost per Saga from it..? If it is going to be a really hard to access skill, I dont think we need a ton of nerfs to make it hard to use / prevent abuse.

Maybe the Guru training could lift some restrictions, but then we would have to balance it out elsehow. Somehow making people playing tactically perhaps. I am not sure.

Personally, I think the healing restriction should apply to all healers. There are no canon healers who are also primary combatants, and the more I think of it the more I like the permanent decision between being a primary combatant and being a dedicated support character; this seems like a really nice way to make support characters an actual thing.

I had applied and got denied for an android healing tech, which made sense for my character to be able to do. If healing is going to be a strictly goodie two shoes z fighter/namekian only move then I would like to see it at least count towards the special pool if it is as powerful as a second senzu bean. I am also in support of just letting people with a utility tech reflavor their senzu beans. That is how I do healing with Milac anyways. I think this would be the best course of action.

I agree on the context dependent healing idea... But I like the restrictions too. Maybe tier one of each sidd is appliable, tier two healing costs a lot of zeni, and tier three simply overrides tier three attacks? I think a dedicated support character could be more useful if many characters won't be so hardheaded fightmaniac brutes. Oh wait, that applies to the characters on the show, that is why we lack dedicated support characters in canon? Long story short: I think a dedicated healer is an asset for many teams, due to it's current low number. I just have no good tech-aide idea how to make them appealing... But I like the idea of smaller healing being present. Maybe healing takes actions so much that it works as defense? It makes one unable to attack? Even better idea: if someone is a dedicated support class, they can get some kind of "overcharged" version of their technique - just as warriors can punch whatever they want apart, like planets - the healers can get some kind of extra-special move. Well, if they are trained or something. A kind of an alternative solution, which rewards and not restricts, perhaps.

I dont know how mechanically it should work but maybe something like.
[SU1]Anybody that it makes sense can learn. Maybe costs 3 KP and can be used once per thread. Doesn't restore KP but heals them.
[SU2]Either "locks in" them if they learned it on their own, taking off MP3's and UV3's, but if Guru teaches them if they aren't locked out. Maybe cost 2 KP, works twice per thread(or still once per thread), and doesn't restore KP but heals.
[SU3]Guru exclusive, "locks" in taking off MP3's and UV3's. Cost 2 or 3 KP, can be used 2 or 3 times in a thread, restores KP and health.

Context people. Healing should be allowed if you have a IC reason like Bing said, but not just spiritually. For example, an android could release a salve that heals, or things among those lines. Could work with context.

#921Just as a heads up, please try not to revive old threads. If you feel very strongly about this issue, you should start a new thread. This is a general rule of thumb for all threads. Just keep this in mind in the future.
