History: Otto was born into slavery, son of the slave of an underground crime syndicate and a low level enforcer. In his very early life he was allowed to stay under the care of his mother, who was very strung out and showed him little affection. Although the syndicate favored keeping its female stock high, it had very little use for male slaves. At the age of six, Otto was put up as black market human stock and auctioned off to the highest bidder. Otto was intended for a distant planet inhabited by Makyan, where some had developed a taste for the children of other species.
Otto's first tangible memory was being shoved into a small crate and carted off by a reptilian fellow. He spent several days in the darkness of that crate, only seeing the fluorescent lighting of the ship peering through small air holes. On the third day Otto awoke to the screeching sound of sirens throughout the ship and violent explosions. Smoke filled the cargo bay where he was being stored, and a reptilian language repeated shrill warnings over the intercom. Otto's captors were being boarded.
When his box was opened up, Otto met the eyes of a being that was about his size. It had a purple face, with ivory white skin surrounding it, and tiny horns adorned to its head pointed jaggedly on either side. The small being had several other creatures much taller at his side, a few men with spiked hair and tails, and a plethora of alien creatures of all manner of shade surrounded him. Lord Prestone and his band of space pirates had came to pillage the ship of Otto's captors. To the changeling and his lackeys, Otto was nothing more than a high maintenance piece of loot, at least in the begging.
Otto's saving grace was a scientific exam performed upon him by the ships computer, highlighting adept levels of motor skill and dexterity and above average intellect. Rather than sell him off, Prestone kept Otto as a cabin boy and had him train with the ships Brench engineer, Arti. For much of his early time on the ship his lessons were very short and simple, the majority of his time was spent attending to the ships mess hall. The closest thing to a human other than himself on that ship were saiyans, who despite their similar experience were perhaps the most cruel beings that Otto dealt with on a regular basis. As Otto got older, he began learning a lot about ship maintenance and eventually won a small bit of respect as an assistant engineer. Otto never left the ship, though he saw many strange worlds on the fringes of the galaxy through his window as he grew up.
At the age of sixteen Otto became a full fledged engineer on the ship. He was still seen as a lesser by the pirates, due to his birthright of slavery. Otto did not win true favor among Lord Prestone until they had gotten over their heads on the fringes of the saiyan empire. When the head engineer, Arti, was incinerated by fire in the engine core of the ship- Otto was able to takeover and get the ship functioning to allow for a narrow escape from the Vegeta aligned saiyans.
Prestone had been an outcast among the arcosians, living his life outside of the empire. With the heavy damages to his ship and short supply it was to Prestone's relief that Otto had learned to improvise, repairing a breached hull with welded parts of a foreign ship. Otto was made the ships primary engineer and was promised a full share of all pillaging. Despite pride in his success, Otto wanted to be a warrior like his crewmates.
In secret, Otto began constructing a personal suit for himself that would rival the power of those around him. He would falsify logs and take excess materials from the cargo into the engine room. His suits creation was near its finished stages when the ship came under heavy fire from a saiyan invasion force headed towards earth.
Otto was unable to save the ship this time. The best that he could do was jettison the reserve fuel and detach the engine bay from the rest of the ship. Otto's crewmates were left at the mercy of the saiyan empire, while he was launched onto the surface of his homeworld. Although he felt some remorse for abandoning his crewmates to die, he knew that they wouldn't have survived anyways.
Otto now walks his home planet like a stranger. He has no familiarity with the place, and has become a free roaming agent. He doesn't really have a good moral compass, so he often finds himself doing dirty work to keep himself going.
