AGE 2700. A boy is born on a starship from a world not unlike our own, yet also not similar, which has lost all ability to communicate with its home planet due to a war on the home front.
AGE 2717. The ship crashes into Earth, on the outskirts of Aru Village. The only survivors are the boy and his mother, and the boy would never wake up in the aftermath. They're found by a seemingly-friendly scientist and history buff.
AGE 2718. The boy's mother finds out that her comatose son has been turned into a cyborg by the doctor, and is enraged. Neither her nor the doctor survive her rage. The boy-no, the machine-is left in his pod. He knows nothing of this.
AGE 2799. The machine, with no memories of who he once was or how long he has been out, awakens. In the dilapidated lab, all that he finds in working condition is a beat-up old spaceship in the pocket of a skeleton, and a sword made of some otherworldly metal on the ground next to the bony hand.
AGE 2800. The machine has lived in Aru Village since the Summer of last year, and lives an uneventful life. He carries the local baseball and track teams, but that's the closest to interesting his life gets.
AGE 2801. Rhody Ohm, as he came to refer to himself, is bored. The one year of his known life has been dedicated to a lot of nothing, yet he feels as though he's destined for something more. He tried taking up martial arts briefly in '99, but was barred for life when he accidentally threw the instructor halfway to Mount Paozu in his first month. The rest of his combat prowess comes from self-training in the lab where he woke up and lessons he retained from before the crash 80 years ago (Amnesiacs often retain, on some instinctive level, skills they picked up before their memory loss). One night, in his makeshift home within the derelict lab, he heard a mechanical whirring that he did not recognize, and something told him that this place would no longer be safe for him.
This is the 19/100 year-old's last day in Aru Village. He's finally decided to just fly off in the hopes of discovering something interesting, after saying his goodbyes to the few casual acquaintances of little note he's come to know, maybe burn some bridges with people he dislikes.
