This planet still had dinosaurs.
It was Kashū's second day on Earth, and he'd chosen not to spend the night in any of the lodgings that had been offered to him once he'd confirmed has status as an envoy of the Saiyan Solar Empire; he was finding human cities to be stuffy and stifling, and the overwhelming urge to start knocking over buildings would surely cause more trouble than the comfort was worth. A true Saiyan rarely made comfort his goal, anyway. If he wasn't constantly challenging himself and overcoming adversity, he wasn't getting any stronger. If he wasn't getting stronger, he was getting weaker. It was only logical. Logical in a way that a true Saiyan could appreciate.
Not many things were logical in that way.
But now, he was observing the dinosaurs. He'd rested well enough at night, but they had risen with the sun, trudging and stomping about until he was shaken from his slumber. He shot up ready for a fight, but when he'd noticed a giant pair of legs pass him by, he climbed a tree to get a better look at the beast attached. Sure enough, he beheld a great beast with stubbly arms, hungry eyes, and a mouth full of teeth. It easily pushed the trees aside as it made for clearer pastures, perhaps seeking its next meal. It had failed to notice that perched Saiyan, who watched it curiously for over a minute. It was odd to find such a populous planet that still had predators as massive as dinosaurs wandering about. Kashū wasn't sure whether that was a testament to the Humans' weakness or their strangeness. He was only sure of one thing: he had to kill it.
It wasn't every day a man got the chance to conquer such a large enemy, after all, and he wasn't one to pass on an opportunity like that. Smiling darkly, he dropped down from the tree and landed on the forest floor before breaking into a steady run in pursuit of the predator that would be his prey. He pursued at a distance for a time, challenged to keep eyes on the creature through the brush and trees, and before long, he was tracking it solely by the sound of its heavy footsteps reaching him from the distance. He picked up the pace, furrowing his brow. He was going to lose it if he gave it too much space. It cleared the forest ahead of him, and he dashed out into the open not long after; however, he came to an abrupt halt. His eyes widened as he perceived the great drop just seconds ahead--a drop he barely avoided when he managed to stop short of the cliff's edge. The near-miss caused no great trouble to his mind, and he placed a hand above his eyes to block the sun as he scanned the horizon for his target.
Surely, a beast so large could not simply have vanished, and it did not appear to have fallen off the cliff, either. Distracted by his search, he did not immediately notice the presence nearing him from behind. It moved with impressive grace despite its size, managing to muffle its approach until it was near enough to open its great maw right behind the savage Saiyan. Kashū only barely managed to perceive its looming shadow in time to through out his hands and catch the roof and floor of its mouth as it attempted to snap shut around his torso.
"Clever," he said as he strained against the force of its bite. Once the initial surprise had passed, he separated himself from the beast with relative ease only to find that it was not the same one that he had been tracking; the last one had been yellow, but this one was mostly blue. The shift left him wondering still where his original target had gone, but as the dinosaur before him shook off the pain and turned its menacing gaze upon him, he forced his confusion to the back of his mind.
"I guess you'll have to do," he said as he widened his stance. "Don't make this too easy, or I'll make you suffer."

Vicious battles long past flashed through his mind as he rushed to challenge the dinosaur, for it was not the first great beast that he had battled in his time. No, the first had been on Gilliga, the frosty world where thrived spiky beasts with flesh as cold as the snow and fangs as harsh as the ice. He had been alone--his first planetary conquest--and he was lucky to find the beast similarly unaccompanied. He had gone unchallenged until he had battled that monster, and it had nearly made a meal of him. But in the end, he had walked away, and it had been left to decay beneath a blizzard burial. This struggle would surely end the same, sans the snow. The dinosaur would fall, and the Red Lion would stand.
He ducked beneath gnashing fangs as his enemy attempted to snap him in half from the get go. Slamming headlong into its massive leg, he used the combination of momentum and leverage to hoist it over his head and throw the beast off balance. A great quake shot through the surrounding earth as the dinosaur slammed against the ground, roaring in disapproval all the way down. It was not, however, left defenseless, and it punished Kashū with a brutal swipe of its tail. The Saiyan felt the strike against his thigh and went spinning several meters through the air. He struck the ground once before he managed to right himself, and he landed sliding--growling--on all fours. The dinosaur slowly struggled to its feet. Kashū rushed forward a second time.
It occurred to him then as it occurred to him often that he had perhaps not invested as much time as he should have in the study of ki. He could perform the most basic of blasts--one of which he directed at the dinosaur's eye on this occasion, only managing to strike a burning shot against the side of its head when it attempted a partly-successful evasion--but that proved to be the limit of his interest in energy-based combat. To him, it seemed a coward's tool: the shield of one too weak to physically challenge an opponent. Skill with ki was a poor measure of power, he'd thought, but at times like these, when he challenged an enemy of purely physical might like himself, he considered that it was a measure of power nonetheless. It was perhaps true that facing the challenge of thriving in war without the benefit of powerful ki techniques made him a truer Saiyan than most, but it might be equally true that he would never tap the heights of power destiny had set aside for him were he to eschew the art altogether.
Yes, he would study ki more thoroughly. It was a tool of war, and he was a warrior. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. The thought aside, he would certainly not admit to needing it against a beast that was not even sapient.
His second offensive had him shooting skyward, his powerful muscles propelling him just out of the dinosaur's reach as it snapped at him over and over again. It turned as he soared over its head, but not quickly enough; when he landed, he was able to floor the beast by thrusting backwards, slamming once again into its leg, but this time exercising greater force. He was sure that he heard the faint cracking of bone, and the cry the beast unleashed the moment after stood as proof that he had done some damage. He smirked. Hoping to take the opportunity to exacerbate the effect, he spun on his heal and delivered a powerful backfisted strick to the spot his shoulder had struck, then followed up with a haymaker from his right. He could achieve no more before retaliation in the form of an attempted kick forced him to dodge backwards. Several backward handsprings dispersed his momentum until he was able to stop on his feet. His smirk widened. "A kick, huh?" he said to the beast despite doubting that it could understand him. "I didn't imagine you could move those bulky legs for anything but walking. I'm impressed."
His surprise was genuine, but the battle was over now; he could see as the beast squared off against him that it was now loathe to put weight on the leg he'd so viciously assaulted. No matter how large or dangerous, prey was as good as dead once hobbled. Beasts could not adapt as sapient opponents could. It would make a futile effort to flee, or it would make a futile assault. Given its ferocious appearance and character, Kashū was not surprised to see it choose the latter.
It dashed for him, and he dashed for it. The pain in its leg proved too great, and it stumbled just slightly on its path. Kashū spotted the failure and suddenly lunged for its throat, soaring toward it like a bullet. He caught hold of it and dragged it to its back. The beast flailed and writhed on the ground.
The Saiyan quickly positioned himself atop the dinosaur's throat and pressed down on its neck with his heel. It gave a fierce heave, throwing him off balance, but it would not dislodge him entirely.
He wrapped his arms around its great neck and began to squeeze. The beast roared, crying out in defiance, refusing to be silenced. Kashū squeezed harder. The pressure began to damage its throat, but it contained to alternate between roaring and squealing. It rolled from side to side, flinging the Saiyan about. He refused to let it go.
Kashū took the briefest opportunity when it was given him. In the blink of an eye, he drew back one fist and thrust it full force against the dinosaur's neck, piercing its flesh with some difficulty. He reached for and tugged at any solid form he could feel, anything he thought might do some damage and put an end to its struggle more quickly. It began to lose energy, and soon after, it began to lose consciousness. Its blood pooled around it on the dusty ground. In a matter of seconds, it breathed its last.
Panting and sighing, the Saiyan Elite rose to his feet atop his terrible victim. He scratched his bare chest with his cleaner hand while staring down at its lifeless form. Another foe conquered, and just in time for dinner. Dinosaurs were edible, right?
He didn't have much time to ponder that mystery before a sudden rumbling in the ground put him on edge. He first looked at the dinosaur beneath him, wondering if it might somehow be making an effort to rally its strength. The reality that presented himself when he looked up proved far more severe. He furrowed his brow as he watched them stomp toward him: a trio of dinosaurs ever bit as massive and threatening as the one upon which he stood, including the one he'd originally been chasing. "So, that's where you went."
Had they intended to come back and find him dead at their companion's feet, ready to be shared between the four of them? He was a large Saiyan, certainly, but large enough to make a worthy meal for four beasts several times his size? He very much doubted so.
Still, he did not take the complement ungraciously, smiling wryly as his new opponents approached him. Fighting one had been a challenge. Fighting three would be a story.
"I sure hope that you are not endangered," spoke Kashū as he prepared himself. "I don't want to have to suffer through hours of Human bureaucracy after I've stripped all the flesh from your bones." Indeed, he intended to eat all four. Perhaps it would take more than one sitting, but he was never one to be displeased by the existence of ample leftovers.

Two hours later, the Red Lion was carefully dragging a pair of logs through the forest by his teeth. He let his arms hang at his sides--battered and sore, but not broken--and kept his trembling legs hard at work to pull their weight along. He felt his pace to be painfully slow, his hunger growing with every step, and he did his very best to avoid slowing down to any degree greater than that which the logs already enforced. It was a challenging process, but he was given some sense of relief when the cliff finally came into view again. The hard part was nearly done.
...His first assailant was a sprightly green beast, the smallest of the bunch and the fastest, which it proved when it lunged at him at breakneck speed. He barely managed to leap high enough to evade its first attack, but it was quick to turn on him with another. It went straight for the neck, but he narrowly managed to shift sideways just enough to move his throat out of the path of its fangs. His shoulder, however, was not so lucky. He let out a sharp cry as those terrible teeth dug into him, but did not let them persist long before grabbing one of them with his free hand. Working against the pain he caused himself, he lifted, tug, and tore until the targeted tooth was removed from its home, causing his assailant to double-back in pain. He was given no time to celebrate his victory; the largest of the trio came next....
Over the cliff went the logs, which he launched with persistent pushing from with his shoulders. They crashed into the ground below with a very loud thud, barely managing to survive the impact against the dusty surface below. Kashū followed after them quickly. He was far too hungry to bother climbing down or finding a path that he might walk, and frankly, the gravity on this world was pathetic compared to what he was used to. He easily touched down on his feet, producing a loud crash of his own despite experiencing what he felt to be a rather soft landing. He once again lifted the makeshift rope--fashioned from strips of dinosaur hide--into his mouth to continue pulling the trees. He'd lost parts of them in the descent, but what he had left would be plenty. Not much farther now.
...He attempted to strangle it to death as he had his first victim, but its superior size made the task more difficult. The challenge only became greater when the green dinosaur overcame its pain and continued to attack, eschewing any notion of chivalry to jump and snap at Kashū's legs even as he attempted to resist the thrashing of its companion. The third dinsoaur--intermediate between its companions in size, but easily the most menacing with its gray and excessively-spiky hide--decided that it would wait no more, and it, too, leaped into the fray. Kashū delivered a strong kick to the green dinosaur's jaw to give himself some room to drop. He retreated in time to evade the gray dinosaur's charge, and it mistakenly gored its large companion when he failed to halt its progress. This earned it a swift chomp on the shoulder, but the beasts did not spend long fighting amongst themselves; there was still a meal to be captured.
Kashū moved nimbly toward the cliff, then spun to face them as all three came bearing down on him at once. A devious smirk graced his features...
He used his hands to chop the trees into sloppy rectangular forms, then gathered them up into one great pile. His breath fell heavy against the cool dusk air by the time he was done, and fell onto his back for a breather. Looking up, he noted that the twilight sky was nearly red. A red sky brought back many memories, and with them came a decidedly grim smile. It was never certain whether the Red Lion smiled because he reveled in suffering or smiled to mask his own. He wasn't entirely certain himself, but he, like most others, chose to believe in the former; for him, it was the only reality that could possibly bear any meaning.
What mattered, as always, was that he was alive. He had won. The spoils of this victory lay beside him now in a heap. He rolled onto his front and pushed himself up. The task was not yet done, and the fruits of his labor not yet enjoyed.
...Even as they tumbled helplessly toward the ground below, the dinosaurs thought only of their victim, and they made repeated attempts to tear and claw his flesh as they all plummeted together. Without the ability to fly on his side, Kashū could only move his limbs and push off of his enemies to avoid losing a body part to their mouths, and he took special care to keep his vulnerable tail wrapped about his waist. He rebuked the largest monster with a brutal uppercut, then slammed both of his feet against the top of the spiky terror's head. This sent him some distance upwards, which he hoped might grant him the top spot in the landing, but he was unfortunate enough to collide with the green beast as it came crashing down into him. He held it at bay by the neck, but winced as it scratched at his arms with its own clawed hands. There was not enough time. He shut his eyes tight...
He burned his catch to perfection. Propriety and etiquette went wholly unconsidered as he tore violently into the charred flesh of the once-green dinosaur, hungrily swallowing down one bite after another. He found its taste similar to that of the great dire wolves native to Vegeta, though it was much tougher to chew. Good. Fight all the way down. He would conquer it completely, and he would move on to its friends. He would eat them all down to the bone in time. He had defeated them, and it was his right.
...The impact stunned them all. The gray dinosaur slowly worked up the strength to stand, and the largest one simply craned its neck to see what the results of their struggle might be. The green one, though, still flailed about wildly; spurred by the pain, Kashū's grip on its throat had only tightened. His entire being flashed red with power as he bared his teeth and made his Stand, unleashing a terrible, monstrous shout. All three of the beasts were pushed violently away from him, and he allowed them no quarter. In one swift move, he launched himself at the green dinosaur, grabbed its head, and wrenched its neck about as he went, killing it outright. Continuing in his momentum, he tore two spikes free of the gray monster's back as he ran over it, then buried those same spikes deep into its skull. The largest of the trio he fried where it lay, buffeting it with ki blast after ki blast until and roaring all the while, at last, it was overcome. He dropped his hands and fell to his knees, heaving a sigh.
Panting. Shaking. Seething. The Red Lion surveyed the damage he had done. His countenance cracked, and he unleashed a round of mocking, defiant laughter. He would surely feast like the king tonight...
