Azurai had spent the past hour flying through the skies above his proud home planet still thinking about his encounter with his Other Self, O.S. Azurai felt extremely grateful that his body was spared but couldn't help but wonder how much power O.S now had in the back of Azurai's head. Could it be possible that O.S could change his mind and take over Azurai's body like O.S originally, or seemingly, intended? Azurai could only wonder for now, considering he did not want to go back into his mind and use The Meditation Technique a third time. Azurai continued to fly through the skies and think.
Eventually Azurai's deep thought became interrupted. Azurai's eyes locked onto giant skyscrapers off in the distance. As he got further and further to these skyscrapers Azurai noticed houses and roads and buildings all popping up in different areas. Once the clouds in the distance blocking Azurai's view dispersed upon him flying through them a giant city was revealed, and giant is a term not used lightly. The city within Azurai's view was a sight that was, to Azurai, unexplained. Azurai had never seen a city as large as this one in his life. The view was truly amazing. Azurai was indeed speechless.
Azurai descended from the air landing to one of the very entrances of the city. Looking upwards straight in front of the entrance Azurai noticed a gigantic, rusted sign with one of the letters on the sign flickering in no specific pattern. Azurai had obviously chosen a very neglected entrance, one that could definitely not be considered a main entrance, but he did not care. The city still amazed him no matter how little maintenance this area received. Azurai read the sign aloud.
"West City... What a sight huh?"
Azurai spoke as if he was speaking to someone standing next to him even though the area around him had very little people in it. In fact most of the people here were dirty, speaking to themselves or seemed as though they had no idea where they were. This made Azurai very worrisome about his safety. Azurai decided it was best to ignore the people around him and head further into the city. With his head down and hood on in hopes to avoid suspicion, even though he generating the opposite effect than he intended, Azurai trekked through the derelict, and filthy, area of West City that he had decided to land in. Within minutes of walking through the city he heard complaints of what sounded like a man and a woman off in the distance.
"I'm telling you Sally we got the worse end of the draw, it's not like anyone even cares about some tournament in this area of the city. I mean come on.... look at this place...."
"Markus Evergreen if I hear you complain about this one more time those maps and pamphlets in your hand end up somewhere extremely unpleasant! You know that everyone gets this area at least once in their time with the Centurial Conference. It's only fair that it's with us this time."
"I know... I know..."
The voices ended in a sigh from the man as two figures turned a corner of an abandoned and quite rundown shop on Azurai's right. Azurai looked at the two figures as they got closer and closer to Azurai. As the figures emerged from the shadows blocking Azurai's view they were revealed as a man and woman both in their mid forties. The woman smiled at Azurai and waved hello. The woman's smile was a smile that was so large it seemed unnatural. With the woman's smile came a large, puffy set of blonde hair that seemed as though it was 160 years too late. The man next to the woman, who Azurai presumed was Markus Evergreen, didn't have the same smile. In fact Markus' smile wasn't a smile at all, more like him looking around in panic as if he was worried about getting jumped. The hair that went with Markus' smile was... minimal.
"Hello there! I am Olivia Taterfield Louise Evergreen! But you can just call me Olivia! So what brings you here young man?"
Azurai felt overwhelmed with Olivia's name alone so he felt very confused and vulnerable when her words were forced down his throat at 10 miles per second. Azurai simply smiled back and nodded at what she was saying, including her question.
"I'm Azurai and I'm simply here to visit."
"Ohhh visiting, how mysterious! Tell me young traveler have you heard of the Centurial Conference?"
Azurai looked at Olivia very confused.
"What's the Centurial Conference?"
Olivia, and even the coward Markus, both dropped their jaws in disbelief looking at one another. Markus, who now seemed as though he miraculously grew a pair, approached Azurai with a pile of pamphlets.
"I think you'll be needing these..."
Azurai took the pamphlets from Markus and looked down at them. Azurai attempted to read the titles before being interrupted by Markus. Markus had lent in towards Azurai and began to whisper in his ear.
"You're not one of those fancy aliens, right?"
Azurai looked at Markus in complete and utter confusion.
"Eh, no..."
Markus, who was now red in embarrassment, stepped back next to his wife while she glared at him. The man and woman were a very strange couple. Azurai continued and once again started reading the titles.
"Earth's History: The Centurial Conference, Your Guide to the 9th Centurial Conference and How to Enter the Tournament: The 9th Centurial Conference... What is this tournament?"
Azurai was intrigued. Could this tournament be one of the Martial Arts Tournaments that he had heard stories of as a boy? Olivia smiled at Azurai, preparing to give a lengthy answer. Azurai was already regretting his decision.
"Well... Thanks to Earth, the Saiyan Empire and The World Trade Organisation agreeing for peace Earth, thanks to it's large and wondrous heart, announced a peace conference where the three factions would sign their contracts for peace and to commemorate that peace Earth also holds a tournament where each faction's strongest fighters from all over the galaxy battle it out, all in good fun of course, to see who is the strongest!!!"
Leaping into the air on the last word of her elongated sentence Olivia smiled at Azurai filled with glee. Azurai had definitely made a mistake asking her about the tournament. This was made obvious by Azurai's confused brain and, when looking towards him, seeing Markus and hide his face in shame of his wife. Azurai was beginning to worry if he stayed any longer he would be invited to their home for Tea and Biscuits.
"If that is the case then I wish to enter. It seems like the best way to learn about the other inhabitants of this planet as well as The um... Galaxy is to sign up."
Azurai looked at Olivia with a nervous smile readying himself to ask another question.
"How do I sign up exactly?..."
Olivia reacted quite, pleasantly to this question as she quickly pulled a pen and sign-up sheet out of what seemed like nowhere and handed both objects to Azurai. Azurai thanked Olivia, signed his name and whatever details he had on the sign-up sheet then handed the pen and sheet back to Olivia. Markus looked towards Olivia in disbelief as she carefully held onto the sheet.
"We actually found someone here Olivia..."
"Oh of course we did, Negative-Nancy!"
Seeing Olivia's personality take a 180 degree turn Azurai knew he had to quickly depart from their conversation.
"Thank you Olivia, Markus, please tell me. How do I get to the grounds holding the tournament?"
Markus happily answered Azurai's question.
"Simply head south and you'll be there! Oh, and before you ask. The only shortcut that I know of towards the Tournament Ground is Diablo Desert. It shouldn't be hard to miss but be careful when taking it it's said to be haunted by some sort of evil presence... Although it does cut a day or two off travelling... I'd tell you the whole story but... I'd-"
"He'd get nightmares! I'd bet Azurai doesn't get nightmares Markus!"
"Y, yes dear I know but-"
Before they could continue Azurai took his turn in cutting Markus off.
"Thank you very much Markus and Olivia but I've really got to take my leave now, goodbye! See you at the tournament maybe!"
Azurai waved to the couple, hoping his last statement wouldn't come true, as he ascended into the air. Azurai continued to wave to them until he got too high into the air to see them. Upon reaching a reasonable height Azurai ceased waving and took off as he burst forwards into the air heading south towards the tournament grounds. On the ground Markus and Olivia dropped their jaws once again. Staring straight up at the sky they watched Azurai ascend and take off at the speed of light towards the tournament grounds. Markus looked towards his wife, who was still looking into the sky, and spoke the one thing that was on his mind.
"Are we sure he wasn't an alien?..."
