Ornee scratched the back of his feathered head. The time patroller who had started to announce the matches had gone missing. It was now the varga's job to do it, but he knew barely any of these fighters.
"Uh... In the Middle League we have Pin and Jala battling in the quarter finals!"
ROUND THREE of the Middle League's Multiversal Tournament has begun! Player Versus Player Matches have a set 48 hour timer for posts. Failing to post in time will result in disqualification. After ten days pass (*10 minutes IC), if a knockout, ring out, and so on is not accomplished, judges will decide a winner. Without further adieu, get to punching each other.
Pin strode out into the Arena once again, this time forgoing any fanfare or grandstanding. His pistol was holstered, his helmet on his head, and he remained quiet. He hadn’t realized just how quickly he’d grow tired of the constant posturing in this tournament. Even with his last match having been refreshingly casual, he had a feeling that it would be the only one of its kind in this tournament. Instead, now he went to battle against a woman whom he promised he would defeat.
He hadn’t known Chai for long, but he had quickly grown fond of the goat boy, and Pin wanted to keep that promise as well as he could.
He stood, awaiting his opponent, running a brief diagnostic check on his various software and hardware systems. He had to give it to the Vargas, they knew how to keep a machine up and running. All systems were quickly found to be go - hell, some of them were running better than when he’d arrived at the tournament grounds. He’d have to touch base with the mechanics that had helped patch him up and learn their secrets. It might help him back out there in the real world.
For the first time, Pin had to admit that he might not win this thing. His first opponent had been all talk, but Chai had kept Pin on his toes throughout their entire fight. If he hadn’t surprised the Zoanthrope at the last second, things might have gone differently. He had no idea what this woman, Jala - not the same Jala he knew, not the Queen mother, but rather some other Saiyan warrior, was capable of. Still, he knew she was no more powerful than he was, at least by whatever metric the Vargas were using to construct their tournament. He had to hope that his skill and cunning would bring him through this match, that he’d make good on his promise and move on to whatever opponent was next.
Jala listened for her name to be called and she got up, cigarette in her mouth as it lights her face slightly. “Hn. It’s time is it…? Alright… Now… Jerald, what’s my fighter about…?” Jala asked, having a finger to the side of her scouter. She wasn’t planning on being serious while fighting, just carefree and jovial. But after her fight with Snakki, she now had to win; she no had a reason too.
“All the fights before this were child's play. Now… Here’s where the real fights start.” Jala said arms crossed as she headed out and leaped toward the planet ring, standing across from the mechanical man. “Name is Pin… SSE? Tch, lovely. An inflated ego here we go…” Jala muttered and looking over the mech.
“Excuse me, Pin. I got two questions for you. Did you ever meet a U15 Jala from your universe, someone who pretty much looks like I do? And second, what are you fighting for…?” The young Saiya-jin asked, letting her body limply hang. Jala thought to start off slow, see how the android would react as she raised her energy, being to charge something up.
Pin And so, it begins. Tourny PL: 250,000 Charging [SU1] Ki Charge for 33% this turn~!
Pin sneered under his helmet. This woman was already rubbing him the wrong way. Arms crossed, talking about how easy the previous fights were, and Pin thought he heard her mutter something disparaging about the SSE. Even if he hadn’t made a promise to Chai, he’d want to break Jala’s teeth. She led in with two questions, all while building up her energy.
“I’ve met a Jala in my universe, sure. She didn’t look a lick like you, though. Doubt she’s your counterpart. Why?”
He didn’t really care why she asked about her Universe 15 doppelganger, but keeping her talking would keep her organic brain’s focus split. Another advantage of being a machine that he’d have to come to terms with losing - machines were great at multitasking.
“What am I fighting for? You mean in general, or here at the tournament? That’s a real broad question. I’m here for the same reason you are. There’s something in my life that needs fixing, but can’t be fixed through conventional means.”
As he spoke, he began to charge energy into his shielding array. He had no idea what sort of technique this Jala might throw her power into, and while he was confident he could overpower it with something stronger, he didn’t want to blow that much energy right out of the gate. Instead, he’d just keep pace with her own swelling energy, and let his shields sort it out once she made up her mind.
“What are you gonna wish for? I hope it’s something more interesting than power.”
Charging [N1] Geodesic Energy Field (Tier 1 Barrier), 33%!
Jala looked pretty confused when he talked about a different Jala. “Jerald, please look into anyone named Jala. Look for people that political figures or something,” she said into her scouter and continued to charge her energy up as her scouter beeped, letting her know about Pin’s charging of whatever he’s charging.
“No reason. Just curious.” Jala lied, watching him, eyes narrowing. “My wish is for someone to get strong enough to kill a tyrannical ruler. That is my wish. I had no wish before this and now I do. I came here to fight and that’s it, but now, I have a purpose to win. So, Pin, what’s your reason?”
She outstretched her body and yells out, her hair turning a golden yellow and her eyes turning teal."Hope your ready, Pin."
Great. Another opponent who had really only come to the tournament to fight, whose wish had been nothing but an afterthought. And her wish, for -someone- to get strong enough to kill a tyrant? What sort of dishwater bullshit was that? To wish for someone else to solve your problems? Pin would have spat, had he not been wearing his helmet…and if he had spit.
“I’m sick of being someone else’s doll,” he said, “I came here to change the very nature of my own existence.”
And then, of course, the woman before him entered the Super Saiyan state. He wasn’t surprised, really - any Saiyan in this tier of the tournament would have access to that form. Still, he found it more irritating than intimidating. In his experience, most Saiyans became all but insufferable when they attained that golden aura. Would he be the same when this was over? He couldn’t be certain.
“I was built ready,” he said. He considered entering his Overdrive state, kicking off his limiters and going whole hog. Instead, he reconsidered - he wanted to have his full wits about him for this match. Overdrive would cloud his judgement. Rather than become the ravenous Momma’s Boy, he chose to bring in something new - the literal big guns.
From outside the arena, a claxon rang out. Something was launching. Out in space, a machine detached from Pin’s personal ship, the Pixie Blue. Normally, it would hurtle through space and enter the atmosphere of whatever planet Pin was on, landing beside him. However, rather than have it potentially destroy everything in its path, Vargas technology picked up on the launch and simply transported it through space, placing it next to Pin. As its limbs and head outstretched, so too did the arena to accommodate for its size. In moments, a great metallic ape - the Roboozaru - stood beside Pin, its cockpit open and waiting. Pin took to the air and stepped into the cockpit. He sat, and as the doors closed the machine plugged itself into his own mechanical body, transferring control and powering the giant robotic suit.
“... Jala... SSE? Queen Habana’s mom? Huh, small world.” Jala said, muttering to herself, now not even paying attention to pin for the moment, thinking. “Huh, sounds pretty interesting… Still, I have a bias against them.”
“I mean… I’m pretty sure there are multiple people here that can… You know, help you with that, uh, problem of being a tool. No need to waste a wish.” Jala said to him, raising an eyebrow. “If your meaning programming wise that is. Turning from an android to a living thing… Yeah, you’d need a wish most likely.”
Jala stood there watching then felt the planet grow in size and a giant monkey just… Poofing into existence. “Wh-what the fuck?!” Jala yelled, jumping slightly, a bit surprised. “Holy shit… Alright, time to take it up a notch.” Jala said, gritting her teeth and outstretching her legs.
She dropped her weak charge and decided she was going to have to go all out. Seeing this giant thing really didn’t make her happy and she was a bit jealous. She wanted to transform into a giant monkey as well and have a giant monkey battle but… There’s no full moon and she couldn’t control the giant monkey form that well. Always been a problem.
Her tail swished nervously as she watched Pin jump into the metal menace. “Yippee kai yay motherfucker,” she said, powering up what she was planning next as she flew into the air, her teal hardened eyes staring into the monkey's eyes.
Pin Dropping Charge on [SU1] Ki Charge! Charging [SU3] Ki Charge for 100/66% this turn
Pin rolled his eyes as the Saiyaness rambled on and on as if her words meant anything, as if anyone wanted to hear her talk. He wondered if this was her plan - to bore him to tears through unending conversation and no action.
Finally, when she noticed the Roboozaru, she seemed to be knocked out of her rambling and seemed to consider the battle once more. She began to charge something different, something a bit stronger. If he wanted to keep pace with it, he’d need to step up his own charging pace. He increased his maximum shield capacity by a factor of one, and his power core immediately began to siphon greater energy into the Roboozaru’s shielding array.
“I can wait all day, meat,” Pin said, his voice sounding out from a loudspeaker somewhere on his mobile suit’s body, “Don’t need to eat or sleep or any of that. You just take your time and I’ll be ready once your courage finally shows up.”
Pin was hoping to goad an attack out of Jala sooner than later, if for no other reason than because this whole ‘talking and charging’ shit was excruciatingly boring. He didn’t come here to talk shit and wave dicks, he came here to fight.
“...” Jala didn’t answer but continued her charge. She wondered how to get this guy to attack and try and make the first move. She had to be careful, and she could tell this guy was going to egg her on and try and make her want to blast in his ugly face. She needed to be smart.
She had to be cautious and careful. This far in, the real fights began and they’d be hard. Should she attack? Should she defend more? Her scouter beeped, letting her know something is going on, something a bit stronger than before.“... It’s been awhile since I fought an Oozaru and never fought a metal one… I should test the waters first before I fire off anything.” Jala thought, now dropping the charge and holding up her hands and aiming at the Oozaru and shooting an array of ki blasts at the face of it.
She’d then dive bomb into the giant robot and buff up into Grade 3 and try to unleash everything into the face of the giant robot monkey, focusing on the eyes, throwing flurries of punches and kicks in her bodybuilder like body. She’d leap back and revert back to Grade 4, staring the beast down on the ground.
Pin Got a lot to do... And planning is afoot~! Dropping Charge on [SU3] Ki Charge! Going from MSSJ (Grade 4) to USSJ (Grade 3) and back to MSSJ (Grade 4)
Somewhat unexpectedly, Jala dropped her charge, instead choosing to attack with a series of basic ki blasts, aimed at the Roboozaru’s face. Pin raised an eyebrow. He wasn’t sure what she was planning, but he raised the Roboozaru’s massive arm to knock aside the ki blasts. No reason to just let them land as intended.
She then launched herself headlong into the Roboozaru, unleashing another version of the Super Saiyan form before throwing a flurry of punches and kicks. Clearly she expected the giant machine to be slow and made of paper. It was neither. As she delivered her melee attacks, Pin maneuvered the Roboozaru’s hands to intercept them. Of course, this meant dropping the charge on his shield array and accepting that the chassis and paintjob was going to need a touchup, but he wasn’t too concerned about that.
“Finally, you’re DOING something. You’re not doing anything EFFECTIVE, but its something at least!”
The Roboozaru’s mouth opened and from its throat extended a long, silver barrel. Something shifted within it with a metallic SHUNK sound, and then it fired a line of purple ki energy at Jala. He didn’t load too much energy into it, just a basic energy blast, but he followed it up with a pair of surprisingly fast punches and a vicious bite of the Roboozaru’s massive, metal jaws.
Jala was not pleased when her attacks did nothing but mess up a paint job. “Ha! Finally, you're doing something!” she snarked back at Pin, smirking at the mechanical menace. Pin as well FINALLY started doing something. She heard something inside the machine and saw the mouth open, a glow in the back of it as she blasted the ground to dodge the blast from it.
Jala noticed the monkey rear back and unleash a flurry of punches, to which, she blasted herself around the punches and kicked off the snout of the beast, narrowly escaping the beast’s mouth. “Tch. This is annoying…” Jala muttered, landing and backflipping a couple times and yelling a scream, powering up ki around her as she created a dust cloud around herself and she lowered her ki to nothing, fired a couple of ki blasts around to confuse Pin and darted out, to the other side of the planet.
“Well shit… What’s next… He’s inside that giant thing and it’s extremely annoying… What can I do… Hmmm..” Jala thought, knowing she didn’t have much time. The Saiya-jin came up with a plan, slowly creeping toward the back of Pin’s machine and kicking off, heading right below it, and leaping upward and blasting her power to full, floating there and aiming a ki blade at the where Pin entered and shooting it, hoping to penetrate through the machine and hit Pin; then she'd lower her PL and dart off again.
Pin Using Energy Suppression [UT1] to lower PL to 1, Release tech to fire off a ki blade, and lower back down 1.
Pin watched as Jala backed off and started screaming, flaring her power and kicking up quite the cloud of dust. Something felt off about this - she wasn’t charging anything, and she’d already shown her Super Saiyan form. Was she trying to ascend even further? No way she was that frustrated with this battle.
When her power all but fell off of his scouter’s array, he smiled. Clever, clever girl. He’d met warriors who could manipulate their power signatures in the past, going unseen almost in the same way that an Android might. But that was just the thing - she was pulling this trick on an android. An android with very fancy technology at his disposal.
The same sensory array that he’d installed in his helmet was installed into the Roboozaru itself, and so Pin began to cycle through the various spectra of light that he could sense. It wasn’t long before he spotted Jala, creeping through the dustcloud to try and get behind him. But to what end?
“Where...are you?” Pin said, playing along with her plan. Better to let her think she’d found some sort of advantage.
When she leapt in, her power flaring, he wasn’t surprised. When she tossed a ki blade towards the cockpit door, he wasn’t surprised. Instead, he brought the Roboozaru’s bladed tail around in a wide, sweeping arc. The blades spun as he used them to knock the ki blade aside before it could strike its target. He did note that this left a decent nick in the edge of one of the tail’s blades - impressive.
She dropped her power back down and tried to use the dustcloud for cover once more.
“You can’t hide forever, girl.”
Pin piloted the Roboozaru to face away from Jala, fully presenting its back to her.
With that, he kicked one of the Roboozaru’s legs up, and followed with the other. The Roboozaru fell backwards towards Jala, and Pin stuck it’s elbow out at her to strike first. He’d learned this move from Habana, who watched entirely too much galactic wrestling.
Pin used UT1 Multi Visor to track Jala's movements! Pin defended against Jala’s ki blade!
Pin is delivering a giant robot-sized The People’s Elbow!
“Tch, shut up android!” she yelled, her ki blade breaking against the tail blade thing, and she did break a little piece of it as she leaped back. Jala watched the robot turn away from her and that confused her. “What the fuck…?” she said, watching it now leap up.
Jala watched it leap up and start to go down in an elbow dive towards Jala. She was sick of this thing and growing angry, she wanted this eyesore GONE. She powers up and screams, her hair rustling and she took off… Not away, but TOWARDS it.
Her eye’s gleam as she got close to it, and with momentum behind her as she went into Grade 3, she slams a fist into the chest of the beast, attempting to punch right through it. And if she can’t punch through it, she’d put all her momentum and strength to push back and hold it up, pushing it to the side. There’s nowhere to go… But through it. Sparks raged, as she grew closer to the beast. “I WILL NOT BE CRUSHED BY A ANDROID!” she screams at the top of her lungs.
Pin Form: From MSSJ to USSJ (Grade 3) Attempting to punch through the machine or catch and toss it to the side.
It seemed Pin had oversold his inability to find Jala, such that she managed to see through his trick before his attack could properly land. He didn’t take it too hard - he was piloting an enormous robot, after all, so it was a bit more difficult to give a properly nuanced performance. As the Roboozaru’s metal body descended towards the arena, its sensors picked up on a spike in energy - Jala once again taking on that Ultra Super Saiyan form as she approached. She clearly hoped to deal a significant blow against the machine.
Pin, however, knew this form. He’d been around enough Super Saiyans and studied up what was known about them enough to know that while the Ultra form was stronger, it lacked speed and stamina. And while the Roboozaru was one hell of a big target, it was designed with maneuverability in mind and was in the hands of a very skilled pilot.
“There it is,” Pin said, “There’s that Saiyan fury. That impotent rage when your dick isn’t the biggest in the room. Such a waste of energy, it’s astounding.”
The Roboozaru’s mouth opened and fired a blast of energy at no target in particular. At the same time, Pin kicked it’s thrusters into full burn, turning the giant metal robot in mid-air. The result looked like a rather unorthodox mid-air backflip, just barely managing to dodge the bulked-up punch of his Saiyaness opponent. Pin followed this backflip with an upward kick of the Roboozaru’s giant leg, hoping to catch Jala off guard and send her reeling back through the air.
Pin narrowly avoid’s Jala’s attack through some creative piloting!
“I don’t have a dick! I’m a woman! Why the hell would try to have that contest?! Besides, you wouldn’t have one as well!” Jala snarled back at Pin, giving him the evil eye as he narrowly dodged the punch from her form. She quickly dropped it, breathing a little labored from the switching of forms. She wasn’t tired, just a little out of breath as the form changing is a bit hard rapidly.
Jala watched as the robot dodged, her and his foot sailed toward as she had her eye’s closed, no aura around her. “... GraaaAAHHHHHHHHH!” Jala snapped her eyes open, her violent aura creating around her, a couple sparks coming around her as she powered up.
Her body shaking as she screamed. She seemed to be trying to force herself to ascend but seem to can’t as she’s hit by the foot and sent up into the air. “Grah… Grah… G-god… GOD DAMNIT! GRAHHH!” she screams again trying to try again. “I FUCKING HATE THAT STUPID MACHINE!” she screamed, seemingly pissed and angered by it.
She pants in the air, clutching her stomach as she panted. She dropped to the ground, landing, not too hurt but wincing a little. Her eyes were filled with rage. Rage at Pin, his stupid machine, and the fact she couldn’t… Achieve the form yet on her own.
She stared down the machine, staring directly where Pin would be sitting. “... Come out robot. I want to fight you, on your own. Must you use the machine? I love to fight… But I just want to fight evenly.” Jala said, attempting to catch her breath.
