At last, Rosemary looked around at her handiwork with pride. Nestled in a small crevice she'd found between two cliffs, her new home for the time being stretched from one stone wall to the other with ease. A lean-to shelter sat at one side, though she'd never seen it rain, and a reasonably comfortable bed made of blankets and padding lie underneath. A body's length away, her campfire burned its magical fuel, with a few chunks of meat already roasting nicely; she could've conjured the meat already cooked, but there was something satisfying about the heat and the sound of the sizzling flesh. Several stone posts marked the perimeter of her camp at either side of the path, even if only to complete the aesthetic.
In one direction, the so-called blood pond could just barely be seen on the horizon, and in the other, the road to her teacher's mountain stretched out to unseen distances. Opposite from her tent, a large hole in the wall, wide enough for the red-skinned woman to step through without stooping, lead to a small pond she'd filled with fresh water. The blood pond was nice and all, but she did prefer to bathe in actual water from time to time.
The white-haired ogre grinned in congratulation at herself, then turned her attention to the top of the smaller cliff. Now that her home was complete, there had been something else she'd wanted to do. With a grunt of effort, she leapt up from the earthen floor and latched onto the taller cliff side, then kicked off to land on the other only a moment or two later. The stone groaned underneath the weight of her landing, though the feel of the soft grass underneath her bare feet was enough to make her forget any worry that might've come up. With one outstretched hand, several large stone pillars came into being with a tell-tale cloud of smoke each.
In minutes, the new side of her perimeter had been completed. Starting at the very edge of the cliff and circling around gradually, she stood in the center of the large semi-circle and focused. As she raised her hands in front of herself as though cupping a large bowl, the air around the half-ogre distorted and shimmered. Then, all of a sudden and with an explosion of smoke, the large totem that stood taller than even herself appeared at the edge of the cliff. Spears of elephant tusks were its legs, bound together with a big cat's hide and supporting a perfect sphere of smokey glass. Already, its effect could be felt, and even seen in the grass that no longer stood tall within the semi-circle marked by the stone pillars.
"Perfect!" Rosemary smiled as she looked around. It might've been a bit crude in how she'd done things, but she felt more comfortable now that her home was more alike to Sadala. Things wouldn't be too light anymore, she hoped.
"Now," she spoke aloud to herself as she stepped away from the totem, her tail swinging happily in the more natural gravity. After only a few steps, she stopped and turned her attention to her hands and arms. "He'd said to just... focus, right?" With noone to answer her question, she thought back to what that large, red ogre had told her: focus on making herself heavy. Her body had atrophied a great deal while she was trapped, so this would be the fastest way to regain her old power. If she did it right, then it would even make her stronger!
With a faint glimmer in her dark eyes, she narrowed her brow in focused determination. Like before, the air shimmered and distorted slightly around her arms, and she growled a little in her throat as she called up the energy from her gut. In an instant, a cloud of smoke surrounded her, and when it'd cleared, her arms were clasped in golden wristbands of uniform design. As soon as she'd realized her success, however, her arms fell heavily to her sides, and her tail and head were quick to follow as she came to her knees with a solid thud in the dirt.
"Ah!" The woman gasped in shock, before a bubbling laughter began to build up in her breast. It was quick to climb up out of her throat, and nearly threw her to the ground with the powerful shake and shudder in her shoulders. "It worked!" She shouted in joy, only able to lift her arms to her shoulders before the strain became too much. It took time to reign in her incessant giggling, though in the meantime, she'd managed to lift herself back onto her feet. The grass no longer felt soft against her skin, but was hard and more densely packed. It was that much more like home, she thought.
"Okay. Let's just... walk now." She coached herself towards the first step, and raised a single, shuddering leg off the ground. Though she nearly fell while shifting her weight onto the other leg, the first step came easily. The second, too, seemed a little less difficult. Then, the third, and the fourth. Before long, she'd reached the edge of her perimeter, and set her hand on the top of the short stone post to help keep her balance as she turned.
"Other way, now..." Rosemary muttered through the strain of her much heavier self. Even though she'd done so little, her muscles were already tiring, and her joints hurt. A very specific kind of burn had filled her backside, as she fought to hold her tail up and keep its weight from pulling at her spine. She took another few steps, beginning to pump her arms comically with labored breaths. While her feet carried her across the grassy training space, she couldn't help but to wonder why she'd never thought of this before. It was simple enough, and she could feel her effort paying off already. It'd have taken her hours to enjoy this kind of burn before, though she used the term very loosely.
Nearly a minute later, she'd completed her first full lap across to the other side of her training space. Sweat poured down the red-skinned woman's face, plastering her white hair to her scalp and seeping into her fur top and skirt. Holding onto the top of a post for support, she gave herself a moment to catch her breath before turning around and doing it again. Then again, and again. With time, it became easier to traverse the several dozen feet to the other post. She'd still had to stop and let her body rest, but those brief moments of relief were getting less numerous. However, her body couldn't last under such strain forever, and her meal did eventually finish cooking above the fire.
So, the woman returned a little later, freshly fed and refreshed from a dip into the cool pool she'd created for herself in the cave. A little less stable than was comfortable, she stood at the edge of the cliff, facing away from the drop and the higher-reaching wall across the gap. Her damp hair and clothes clung to her skin, and her tail tensed itself in mockery of her readied legs. With a few breaths to ready her lungs, she took several quick steps and leapt from the ground, only to land again after barely the distance she'd have crossed in three steps. After catching herself with her hands, she kept her forward momentum and leapt again, and nearly reached the far post.
Grinning a wide and tooth-baring smile, she turned around to try again. Her running start grew faster over time, as did the distance she could clear. Before long, she no longer needed to catch herself after each fall. her movements gradually became more fluid, more natural underneath the strain of her magical weights. The burn and fatigue in her muscles grew as well, but only wrought more pleased giggling from the woman. It really was a wonder why she hadn't thought of this before, or seen others attempt such training methods. It was fantastic! She could feel every fiber of her being, every muscle and sinew strengthening to adapt to the strain and effort!
Without realizing it, her leaps had begun to cross the entirety of the semi-circular training space. Landing from one jump towards the chasm, she leapt again across the wide gap. Of course, the edge of the next cliff remained out of her reach, and she collided with the rocky wall with a low, "Umph!" Hands and feet found their hold before she could fall, and the red-skinned woman looked around to find that she'd climbed nearly ten feet already. Grinning against the jagged cliff side, she tensed and pulled herself up with another leap, then again. Like an Oozaru, she pulled herself up the sheer wall with bounds instead of crawling, and soon felt the soft grass at the top be crushed underneath her palm.
With never-ending grunts and gasps of effort, Rosemary pulled herself to the top of the cliff and nearly collapsed onto the soft bed of green. Sweat dripped freely from her nose and chin, and found its way into every crevice on her body as she tried to catch her hard breaths. When the protesting from her arms and legs had finally become quiet, she rolled over onto her back, leaving her feet to hang off the long drop. Her arms lay stretched out to each side, and she smiled amidst the pain and fatigue quickly settling into her body.
"That... that's enough... I think..." She gasped for air around her sarcastic words, before light giggling silenced her again. She might've gotten carried away, but to be honest... She didn't regret a single thing.
Now, there was one thing that bothered her. With her arms too tired to move any longer, she focused her hazy vision on the air just above her. She pictured the feel and taste in her mouth, and a white cloud appeared a foot above her head, then rained its contents over her with a great splash. The tired half-ogre tried to catch all she could in her mouth, and laughed as the cool liquid washed the heat from her even redder skin. The smell of alcohol overpowered the stench of her sweat, and her pleased giggling rolled over the land for a few seconds.
