Grail Brisk

Original Name:
Grail Brisk (Grilled Brisket, following Kagami inversion of Konatsian naming Pun)
Alias:
The Grim Hermit, Nightwalker
Species:
Kagami and Konatsian (Monster) Hybrid
Gender:
Male
Age:
Thirty-Four
Starting Planet:
Konats
Appearance:
Height:
6'2" (188 cm)
Weight:
169 lbs (76.6 kg)
Build:
Tall, Lanky, Anemic
Complexion:
Pallid, Ashen
Eyes:
Dull Red
Hair:
White, Waist length, Messy
Clothing:
Black leather pants with knee-high dark brown boots with pants secured by brown leather belt. A black leather vest with silver fastenings over a white linen shirt. Black leather closed-finger gloves reaching near the elbow, and finally a dark grey fur cloak ending in tatters.
Ki Aura:
Misty Dark Purple
Misc:
Body below the head is covered in black tattoos of Kashvar origin, being the seal that traps the Nightwalker monster within him. He also has many scars from his childhood littering his body.
Grail is a tall and gaunt specimen that mixes his Kagami and Konatsian ancestry well, only for it to be corrupted by the Monster sealed within him. Originally he was tall and strong appearing with a strong build and handsome features, but now he appears sickly and gaunt, his height making him appear lanky and ungainly rather than strong and heroic. His skin was a pale amber color like most Konatsians, but the process that trapped the Nightwalker in him seems to have drained the chroma from him completely, leaving his skin a pallid grey. His main Kagami traits have been affected by this color draining affect as well, with his opalescent hair instead being a muted white-grey color and his eyes while retaining their red hue are duller, containing no reflective quality or spark of life. His Kagami ancestry has shrunk his Konatsian pointed ears, so while they are pointed they're not nearly as elongated as a normal Konatsian's.
Beyond simply stealing the color from Grail's form the corruption caused by his sealed Monster has taken its toll on his body's health. He is underweight for his height, has almost no fat on his body at all, has a slightly stooped posture as if incapable of standing straight, and is known to cause and wheeze up a thick black gunk that quickly evaporates once outside his body. The tattoos that represent the spells of binding trapping Nightwalker to him are many and seem to suck the light right out of the air, being pure black under any light conditions. The shadows themselves seem connected to his form as well, clinging tightly to his form until he steps into direct light.
The corruption however hasn't affected him completely, and there are traits that can be seen underneath the darkness. He has strong facial structure with a straight roman style nose and high cheekbones and chiseled chin. Grail's thin arms and legs still possess a surprising amount of wiry strength, and in those few rare moments when he is impassioned about something some of the heroic spirit his father contained can shine through.
The clothes that Grail wears are a dark and serious mirror to his own appearance, being mostly made of black leather with white underclothing of some variety. The single thing of color he wears on his person is a small golden locket given to him by his Kagami mother, while inside is a picture of his mother and father on either side of the inner panels. This is the only momento he has of his mother, but he does have another momento of his father, a simple Konatsian Blade said to be imbued with the heroic spirit and dedication that had made his family known long long ago.

History:
Grail was born to a highly unlikely duo of a Kagami slave and a Konatsian Mage, a product of unexpected love brought about by a damsel in distress managing to reach the hero. Grail's mother, a Kagami who was a slave on Vegeta like countless others, one who had been victimized by the saiyans countless times, had finally managed to secure passage off of the planet in return for what meager savings she had been able to collect during her life time under Saiyan Rule. The passage wasn't comfortable, it wasn't fit for a dog let alone a Kagami, but at the very least the ship Captain that had granted her passage had kept their word. Her destination was Konats, a desert world that was paradise in comparison to the wasteland of Vegeta's wilds. The ship deposited her on the planet's surface near enough to Ocariin city for her to reach it, but it took many days of travel that left the poor woman nearly in a fugue by the time she managed to reach the city limits.
The story might have ended there rather easily, as the Kagami woman collapsed near the edge of the slums, where the darker spirits of Konats lurked. Yet instead of being seized by one of ill intent she was found by a local hero type. Vanil was known throughout the area as a designated "Hero" amongst the populace; being one of the only people with enough strength and determination to talk back to the Kashvar Wizards and have his words listened to. He wasn't just strong but also kind and caring, and when he found the unconscious Kagami he immediately took her to a place that she could recover. What happens when a beautiful and vulnerable woman is treated as a lady by a handsome and heroic man? She falls in love with him, as did Grail's mother with Vanil.
A nice happy story this is not, however. For although they did live together and no major conflicts came at them for many months, it was Grail's mother who killed her husband...indirectly. The Kagami are a highly adaptable race, and were capable of adjusting well to the wasteland that is Vegeta, but the gas that the Destron Crags are known for is insidious in its virility, and the minute traces of it in Grail's mother was enough to infect his father. The very night that Grail was conceived was Vanil first day of a downward spiral. His strength began to leave him, his health failing him, and before Grail was even born he died from his exposure to Destron, leaving Grail's mother a pregnant widow.
The problems didn't end there either, for it was thought that Grail's mother was some sort of witch who seduced men and took their souls or some other vague fear, and she was despised, her son also. The people would not harm her or her son out of memory of Vanil, but she lives in complete poverty as she raises their son Grail. Of course not being harmed is far from being helped, and when the Kashvar came for another child tribute and Grail was old enough the Konatsians were all too happy to have the witch spawn taken by the Kashvar. For their part the Kashvar were elated to see what sort of experiments the son of Vanil could handle; a strong host made for an infinitely stronger weapon once they had secured the monster within.
The terrible experiments and abysmal living conditions were frankly only a minor step down in the young Grail's life, and he merely accepted it as another part of his living hell. Perhaps it was the type of monster that they had implanted in him. A Nightwalker. A special type of demonic entity that was comprised of pure shadowy essence. Incredibly powerful, monstrously huge, and yet quicker than a viper. It was an apex demon, surely, but it had limited intellect being more bestial than sapient in its natural form, and was a perfect choice to see the physical limits of Grail's body.
Grail honestly couldn't even find it within himself to hate the Kashvar very much, seeing in them people who were at the very least competent and strong enough to control their own destinies. This put him at odds with many of the other children there, who seemed one and all to hate the Kashvar deeply, but even so many of the children seemed drawn to his calm acceptance of the pain and horror they were immersed in, and so despite his views Grail found himself well liked amongst the children. His first friends.
Skipping ahead many years until the point that Plato, one of the younger children who had shown great promise, had broken free and had eventually killed the Kashvar wholesale using their own experiments against them. It was at this point that Grail would be able to finally leave the confines of his cell. He didn't think much of the deaths of the Kashvar, for despite his earlier awe at their power he realized then that power was a fluid thing. Sometimes one could seem to have massive power when they had little, and vice versa. The Kashvar seemed to have power to the Hybrid because he himself had less power than they. He did feel that he owed them a bit of thanks however, as the Nightwalker that they had implanted into him and experimented on promised a path to power that Grail could ride into ascension; it was no mere bestial creature but a fully sapient and cunning voice in Grail's mind, always with him.
Free from his confinement Grail returned to his mother's home to find a corpse and little else. The emotional trauma of being the cause of her husband's death and then losing their son to the Kashvar had finally been too much for his mother, and she had wasted away in solitude, no one coming even to bury the body. He found only the two momentos of his family that he would treasure dearly; his mother's locket and his father's sword, which had been passed down his family line for many generations.
Grail's sickly appearance and dark persona quickly led him to living on the fringe of society; hiding his powers learned from his Monster, and retreating deep into the deserts when the alignment of the stars weakened the Kashvar magics binding and enhancing his monster, resulting in it tearing free and going on a rampage as an angry beast, the intellect it normally had nullified. Perhaps not the most inspiring of stories, but perhaps as Grail sought more power and became greater, so would his story?

Transformations (Konatsian Monster Dominant)
Monster Unleashed (10x) Known at Start | The Nightwalker is a vaguely humanoid shape made entirely of a shadowy yet corporeal substance that comes from the deepest and darkest areas of the Akumakai, or Demon Realm. Standing nearly fifty feet tall at the shoulder and weighing several hundred tons, the Nightwalker is a danger to all nearby merely by existing, its shadowy powers capable of ripping the lifeforce from targets with frightening ease. This slightly amorphous monstrosity is also capable of manipulating shadows to extend its reach beyond melee range, making it a terror for any person traveling in the night... |
