Ryson sat cross-legged on the ground. He listened to the air and kept as silent as possible. He waited and waited until he heard his brother, Ciro.
“Are you ready?”
Ryson took a deep breath in, then let it out.
“Ready.”
They both calmly stood up and opened their eyes and saw each other, standing across from one another in the open field. Ryson entered his fighting stance and his brother followed. Each of them stood quietly waiting for the other one to lose just a tiny bit of concentration.
It would seem that Ciro broke first as a butterfly flew past his face, giving Ryson a second to launch forward and punch him in the face. Ciro was sent flying back but caught himself in the air. He retaliated by flying back towards Ryson at a high speed to deliver his own punch. Ryson raised his arms to block only to painfully find that it was fake out when Ciro’s knee lodged itself into his stomach.
“Gaaah!”
Ryson was also sent careening back. He regained his energy quickly, twisted himself upright and landed softly on the ground. The two brothers flew together, meeting in the center of the field and became locked into a flurry of carefully places kicks and punches. Both made contact here and there but most of the attacks were blocked. As the onslaught continued Ciro yelled out...
“Feeling tired yet Ry!”
“As if Ciro! This is nothing! Why don’t we really go at it!”
Ryson drew back suddenly and created good distance between the two. He threw his arms in the air and began charging his Burning Heart Wave attack. Ciro smiled and charged the same attack, as they both know it. In unison, they called out the name of the attack, as usual.
“Burning Heart WAVE!”
The two beams clashed in a beautiful burst of purple and neither one of them was giving an inch to the other. Ryson began pouring more energy into his attack and Ciro followed suit. The beams moved back and forth but no real ground was made by the other. Ryson knew they would both tire out before either of them won so he canceled his beam, and flew under his brother's. He BOOKED it over to Ciro who thought he was winning the struggle and clamped his hands together to hit him with his Volcano Slam. His hands and arms became a bright red and he gave a sound of exertion before digging his attack into Ciro’s gut.
“Waah!”
Ciro was properly stunned as Ryson continued to connect a series of blows, tossing him around like a ragdoll for some time. Finally, Ciro came to his senses and expertly dodged a powerful punch from Ryson, grabbing his arm and twisting it. Ryson was tossed to the side and hit with a quick Ki blast to the face, leaving him blind for a moment while his brother wailed on him just as hard as Ryson had.
Ciro, now very tired backed off of Ryson. Ryson pulled himself to his feet with some difficulty and looked Ciro in the eyes. The tension cleared and they both started laughing.
“That was a pretty sneaky trick you pulled with the Volcano Slam!”
“I have to admit, blinding me like that was a good idea too. I couldn’t see what was going on!”
The laughter died slowly and the two shook hands and pulled in for a quick hug when their neighbor Mr. Wilson, the old man who owned the field, walked out of his house to greet the two with a pitcher of lemonade. The brothers accepted the gift and guzzled down the cold drink. Mr. Wilson knelt down to feel the dirt.
“You two sure did do a good job at loosening up the dirt. How much do I owe you?”
They both answered with “Nothing Sir.” Then Ryson continued on his own…
“Just keep letting us fight on your farm and we’ll help with anything you need!”
“Oh well thank you boys. I think you’re good for now. Run on home and patch yourselves up. You sure beat the hell out of each other this time.”
Ryson laughed and Ciro smiled. Then they both gave a quick and courteous bow before Ryson spoke up.
“Bet you can’t beat me home.”
“Bet.”
They both shot up from the bow and darted home through the sky.
