Ryson was fast asleep and was having a nice dream. The dream was almost like a memory but with some minor details changed here and there. He was dreaming about a time way back in the day when he and his brother were play fighting in the back yard. Eventually their mother came out and became instantly furious when she saw the holes and cracks all over the ground. She still lovingly patched them up like always though.

“GAH! Wha-What’s going on!” Ryson cried as he suddenly woke up.
That damn clock, every time.
That clock got him every time. He hated it, and wanted to get a new one. But he always forgot to make time for it. Not that Ryson is a particularly busy person, he just always forgot about small stuff like that. Despite the rough awakening he got up, got cleaned, and got dressed. Ryson continued his day like any other with his mother’s delicious breakfast and talking with his brother, Ciro.
“Hey Ry? Did you work too hard yesterday? You’re outta your room kinda late. I can go easier on you next time if you’d like, if you’re gonna get all tired and slow like this.” Ciro laughed at his remark
Ryson reciprocated his laugh and shot back with… “Ha! You think those wimpy kicks are enough to wear me out? In your dreams hotshot.”
He sat down at the table and loaded his plate with a hodgepodge of meats and vegetables. Before Ryson dug in he locked eyes with Ciro, and they just sat there, having a knife and fork stand off. Ryson could see it in his eyes, he was issuing a silent challenge. First one done eating wins. Ryson gave a slight nod and the imaginary pistol sounded off in their heads as they pounded down their food. Ryson won, of course, and they darted outside to start their daily training routine.
After their round of training Ryson headed into town to finish off his errands for the week, such as picking up groceries and checking the mailbox in town. Just as he was about to slide the last letter into his box, Ryson heard some commotion outside. He finished what he was doing and made his way outside to investigate. There was the sound of metal cans being banged around down the alley next to the post office and laughter echoed out after it. Ryson peeked around the corner to see what was going on when he saw him, Toma. Toma was an old rival of both Ciro and Ryson. He would always pick fights with them and won for the most part. However that winning streak was destroyed when one day he knocked out Ciro and put a good gash in his head. Something snapped inside of Ryson and he let loose, breaking Toma’s arm and his pride. After that Ryson and Ciro kept getting stronger together and Toma almost never won a fight. Now it looked like he was still picking on people. This time it seemed like Ryson’s younger friend, Raine.
“Listen runt. I can’t let you get away with doing me over like that. Did you think we wouldn’t notice you coming to the post office and slipping little “anonymous” hints to the police chief?”
Raine squeaked and winced as Toma picked her up by the collar and brought her close to his face.
“How much did you tell him? Hm? How long have you been doing this to me?”
Ryson didn’t want to wait to see where this was going and stepped into the alley
“Picking on little high schoolers now Toma? How low can you get, really?”
Toma immediately dropped Raine and she scampered out of the alley as fast as her legs could carry her. He turned to Ryson and puffed his chest before speaking.
“Step off Ryson! This is none of your damn business!”
“Normally I’d ask what you’re up to but I’m sure it doesn’t matter much. How about you leave Raine alone from now on and we call it a day, alright?”
Toma gritted his teeth and anger rose in his voice “How about you convince me first half-breed.” He took a fighting stance and Ryson knew there’d be no talking to him. He wasn’t even sure if he was going to win this fight, being that Ciro wasn’t with him this time, but he had to try. He would not let his resolve break over some childhood bully.
Ryson told him “Let’s take this upstairs.” Without a reply Toma rose up into the air. Ryson followed and they flew up onto the roof of the building a few stories up. Toma pulled his arms back to charge a ki beam, Ryson did that same and the air became thick with tension. After only a few moments They both yelled out of exertion and released their energies.
