History
Over the last few thousand years, Earth has made many breakthroughs in science and technology as a whole, one of it’s greatest achievements being the creation of fully functional androids that either acted at the will of their creators or on free will. There have been hundreds of companies that have dived into the practice of creating these advanced beings. One in particular has maintained it’s presence in the present day and is a very known organization.
The Tobata Technology Company have created any type of android you can imagine, from combat models to surveillance models to house models, etc. All of the scientists and engineers there excel in their work, hardly ever failing to be innovative, something that has kept them on top of sales for a long time. However, that began to change as there became fewer and fewer ideas for change regarding technologically advancing the androids any further than they already have gotten. Sales were great, but not as good as when freshly new products would sell like hotcakes.
Rio Tobata, the CEO and ancestor of the founder of the company, realized what his team was lacking however. In the last few years he has seen the rise of a different breed of Androids, Bio-Androids. They were much harder to make since they were organically made, but he believed that with time and effort, his company could ascend to new heights and expand their horizons. The biggest problem was that most of the places that the company sold in made the selling of free-will Androids and Bio Androids illegal. TTC weren’t against the idea of black market trades however, so the creation began.
This project began by illegally buying blood from various hospitals on Earth. This was due to the fact that there were cells in blood, and cells were needed to make the Bio-Android fairly strong enough to fulfill the needs of any client. Most blood came from that of Humans, Namekians, and Ferrosians. From there, the blood would be taken into the lab that the creation took place and would be placed into the large tube that the Bio-Android would be created from. With that and the help of other tools and materials that were being used, the product began to grow, exciting everyone working on the job. However, it failed, dying before being grown enough to interact with it’s surrounding. The team didn’t give up however, trying again, and when that one failed, they tried a third time. Fortunately, it worked this time, and a life form was born in that lab that Rio hoped would flourish.
The Bio-Android’s name was Tobias, picked out by the client that would be receiving him. Upon his tube opening up, he simply stood in it looking around at his surrounding. The first thing that he saw was a bunch of technology that he didn’t understand and scientists that looked amazed by what they had done. These men and women eventually left the room so that a knockout gas could be delivered through the vents, rendering Tobias unconscious. Rio feared that it would begin attacking people, so he did this and sent the now sleeping creature into a secure room that would be where he spent most of his 3 years in the facility.
Tobias’ room was large and the walls, floor and roof were bright blue. There were many book shelves, a desk, a bed, and a television set on a stand, along with a door that led to the hallways of the facility on one wall that remained locked most of the time on one wall, a bathroom on another, and a training room on another that had various equipment meant to increase Tobias’s strength, and it was large enough to have sparring matches as well. For a few hours the television would be on informing Tobias about life outside of the facility, as well as educational videos that taught him how to read (which allowed him to use the many books in the library), write, speak in multiple languages, and much more. Occasionally people would come to the room for lessons that required communication, with bodyguards near them of course. There were a few violent outbursts from the Bio-Android, but eventually he was trained only to use his power when asked to by his caretakers. He turned into an obedient being that only wanted to learn to better himself for his future master, being a kind individual that did his best to protect her and everyone associated to her, and in cases when he could, protect others as well, and that he should only kill people when there was no other choice. The facility taught him to be such a 'hero' in order to keep him under control.
After the first year of Tobias learning and showing that he behaved like that of a good child (his development was very fast), Rio was comfortable enough to allow Tobias into the training room, along with programming various training method videos into the television that would run sometimes. On certain days there would even be a man hired by the facility to train Tobias in the ways of Ki, as the creation also needed to be strong enough to fulfill the will of his client that would eventually be taking him in within two years. This man was named Maxwell and him and Tobias developed a very deep relationship with each other. Maxwell was a hardened warrior that liked to converse with others, but was quite blunt and rude at times. He was rebellious and liked to show superiority often, never holding back against Tobias in a battle. Though he was an asshole, Tobias looked up to Maxwell for his strength and and insight on the world that wasn’t seen on the television he had constantly viewed since his birth. Maxwell taught Tobias that there wasn’t just one way of thinking, that everything he learned in the facility about being good and obedient towards a master was just one way to live. Maxwell kept planting the idea of freedom in Tobias’ mind, that he should be outside learning about the world by himself and not with the help of a single group of people. One would think that with the surveillance cameras in the training room, Maxwell would be fired right on the spot, but he actually paid off the security workers that were supposed to be ensuring that everything was ordinary.
Tobias’ personality had began to change, but it wasn’t blatantly apparent until a six months after meeting Maxwell. He eventually refused to look at the television and read the books that he was supposed to, spending most of his time in the training room instead, even when Maxwell wasn't in there. He became a rebel that didn't respect others trying to manipulate him. This concerned Rio and the other scientists, so he visited the security room to the surprise of the security guards that couldn’t do anything about it. He listened in on one of the conversations between Tobias and Maxwell. Once the topic of being free from the facility popped up, he decided to fire the guards, then went to the training room and fired Maxwell on the spot. Maxwell’s last words that day to Tobias (that he whispered) were “Feign obedience, Get stronger.”
For the next year and a half, Tobias did just that. After a stern lecture from Rio, he began watching the videos and reading again while spending less time training, but just enough everyday that it helped. A new trainer was hired that followed the rules unlike Maxwell. He and Tobias didn’t talk much, but the Bio-Android respected him as a great fighter that he could get stronger from.
The only reason Tobias didn’t attempt to escape yet was due to all of the anti-ki traps set up to ensure that he wouldn’t be able to as well as some of the guards that were much stronger than him at his current power level, told to him by Maxwell who took a few opportunities to scope out the place. There was also the fact that the training opportunities within the facility were too good to pass up, so it was wise to use them up until the transfer was to take place. That was when Tobias suspected that Maxwell would bust him out of there, or at least he hoped.
His hope was met. The day before the transfer, Maxwell broke into the facilitiy with a team, successfully disabling all of the anti-ki tech while also killing everyone there just in case, including Rio. All the while, Tobias was also breaking out on his end after hearing talk of a breach, breaking through his door to the hallway and knocking out all of the guards in the halls near the room. Just as he did that, Maxwell met up with him and killed the unconscious guards. When asked why by Tobias, he answered saying it was to ensure that there was no one that could pin the crime on them and that no one would follow them. Tobias was conflicted due to him learning that killing was only necessary when protecting others, but Maxwell said to him that just as he was to find out things for himself, the same went with taking and not taking a life and when it was needed or not, that there was no one right way. While contemplating this, Tobias and everyone else on the team escaped the facility. Shortly after, Maxwell told Tobias, “That is all you will get from me Toby. From now on you can follow your own path. Goodbye for now,” and he immediately disappeared from the creation’s sight along with his team.
Tobias was sad that his friend had left, but still didn’t know if he should be angry at him for taking those lives. Eventually he decided that he would figure it out later, flying away from the facility and beginning his new life. At that moment he still could have been considered a kind Bio-Android with high morals, but he made sure to always keep his friend's words in safe distance, doubting things that he did at least once and wondering about the alternatives.
After the break out, Tobias traveled around the Earth meeting many people and completing several tasks in order to obtain Zeni, the currency that Maxwell told him was used to get just about anything in the universe. In meeting all of these people, he truly understood what it was to be free, as there were multiple types of personalities and philosophies that he encountered. The Bio-Android longed for something like that of his own, as he still felt like he acted as the same person that was taught by the facility. But he also wondered if there was even a reason to change.
A lot of the people Tobias he had met up until that point had no problem with his kindness and his want to ensure that everyone was safe from the criminals that he often met and dealt with, killing them only when it was necessary as he had been taught. This happened twice, once when someone sent a large ki blast at an innocent civilian and Tobias deflected it back at the enemy, killing them, and the other time when a prisoner escaped from a city prison, showing that it couldn't hold him, forcing the Bio to end his life before he could continue the slaughter that he started. Both times Tobias would feel bad even though he knew that he did the right thing, but overtime he realized that sometimes death was the only option, and like some people he even turned to religion, praying that the souls of the dead would find a happy place.
Now in current time, Tobias still roams around the earth doing jobs for cash and helping people out when he could, but he didn't make it his main objective anymore like he did all those months ago. At this point he wasn't naïve enough to think that he could save everyone since there was too much for one person to protect, so he would rather not spend the time trying to do so. And besides, he knew that there were many people in the world that liked being heroes from time to time like himself. He also pursues adventure, not being afraid to try new things and go into unknown territory. This was part of his promise to Maxwell see as much of the planet as he could. Soon he also wanted to travel across planets since he figured out that with the space ships of today, he could be some place and back within only a few days.
