The soft sounds of footfalls could be heard breaking the silence in the steel Gravity Chamber of Big Blue as Ryder made her way into it for the third time.
“It’s already been a whole week… time seems to slip away so quickly. It feels like only yesterday Tulip and I were testing this thing out for the first time.”
Making her way to the controls, the woman paused a moment to read the instructions once more. Truth be told she had been rather impulsive the last time she came here, cranking the gravity up the next notch the same day she had trained at augmented gravity for the first time.
“There’s a hologram and automatic training drones!?” Ryder found herself once again questioning her decision to seek her own strength in seclusion rather than signing on with the Blue Banner when she’d first had the chance. Had she done that, perhaps she wouldn’t be so far behind Tulip in strength.
Not wasting any time, the woman quickly assimilated all the ins and outs of the equipment. Its limitations, the Operations available for the programs, the works. In but a few minutes she finished her examinations and set about laying down the program for her own training session.
First and foremost, Ryder activated the Augmented Gravity device, carefully turning the dial to thirty times earth’s gravity. The increased gravity hit her like a ton of bricks or the pressure in the depths of the see, crushing in on her flesh, bones and organs whilst threatening to drag her to the floor like it did the last two times she came.
With each increase of gravity- however- the proportional increase was less than the time before. First was ten times the heaviest gravity she had experienced, second was double, and this time was only one and a half times as powerful. Difficult though it was- Ryder stood firm with a face filled with determination.
“No need to involve myself with the holograms just yet. Let’s give these training drones a trial. Computer, do a power level scan and set the difficulty to moderate.”
Green light briefly flashed across Ryder’s body before niches opened up in the walls and a handful of training drones flew out, moving a fair bit faster than Ryder at this time.
Moving away from the control panel, Ryder took up a defensive stance in the center of the room as the drones circled her. *Tyuu! the first laser bolt flew her way, only to be summarily blocked by a finger re-inforced with a dense concentration of Ki.
*Tyuu* *Tyuu* *Tyuu* faster and faster the blasts came from the group of flying bots, moving first in a circle before diversifying their flight pattern. More complex and more rapid they went as time wore on, with Ryder gradually rising up to meet the challenge. Sweat poured from her pours until it saturated her training garb and began to drip onto the floor.
“Is that…. All… you’ve got…” She grunted, struggling to keep up as pairs of blasts came simultaneously from different directions at a breakneck pace, over and over and over again until at last everything came to a stop and a feminine electronic voice rang out….
