PERSONALITY OVERVIEW
Law-Abiding
Scarlette follows the law (most of the time); criminal acts are a wrong in her books, regardless of the reasoning behind committing them. To that end, she just won’t do anything that would break her vision of the law, which can make her seem rather erratic in context. To her, there are some laws imposed by governing bodies that are in their very essence crimes. | Altruistic
This woman strongly believes in helping others, regardless of whether or not it is beneficial to her. Scarlette will go out of her way, often in a reckless and childish manner, to lend a hand in times of need. She does not necessarily take into account the ideology of those she is assisting, however, so even her acts of altruism can seem to have malevolent intent. | Hates Bureaucracy
Scarlette loathes paperwork; that which is required by law is perhaps one of her most hated things. To her, such things are unnecessary contracts set upon the people by corrupt governing bodies, though this may have something to do with the fact that she’s not completely literate. She’d rather speak her mind than write it out on paper. | Unholy Paladin
It’s hard to consider somebody’s actions just when they’re not entirely in favour of the law, and Scarlette proves to be anomalous in that regard. With a skewed moral compass guiding her, she might act in a holier than thou manner from time to time, but her actions can be considered downright monstrous. She’s certainly not above trying to murder a senator if she thinks he’s corrupt! | Consistently Insane
For all her sins and virtues, the defining core of Scarlette’s personality is her emotional extremes. At one moment she can be frisky and cheery, another dull and gloomy; she can dance from vengeful flame to tranquil tide in the blink of an eye. There’s only one thing that’s consistent about her, and that’s the fact that she’s stark raving mad! | Paedophobic
If there’s one thing she can’t tolerate, it’s children. In the presence of juveniles, Scarlette becomes notably anxious, to the point where it might seem as if a mere infant’s existence threatens her very state of being. That’s not to say she won’t fight to protect children or anything; she will if required, but doesn’t want to corrupt them in any way. | Twisted Xenophobe
Shaped from a young age to believe that the human race is the only race that should exist in the cosmos, save for the gods themselves, Scarlette sees anything that isn’t in her likeness as exempt from her usually lawful ways. This includes Zoanthropes, whom she regards as little more than animals, but seems to exclude Androids and the unusually human-like Saiyajin. | Slayer of Savings
One of this woman’s most ridiculous quirks is her lack of monetary understanding. She gets the fact that money is used to buy material supplies, but when it comes to what the coinage is actually worth, she just can’t wrap herself around it. She has a bad habit of miscounting currency, even when checking thrice over! | Innocent of Mind
For all her evils and tendencies, Scarlette’s not actually aware that what she does is sometimes wrong. Her psyche is shaped to the point where she thinks she’s always in the right about her ideals, even if that’s objectively not the case, and tends to dismiss others’ attempts at reasoning as them being too naïve to comprehend the truth. |
APPEARANCE & BELONGINGS
Body Scarlette’s possessed of a slender build, standing five feet and eight inches tall, and might be considered somewhere on the petite side of feminine figures. She’s not particularly blessed aesthetically, lacking womanly curves, though she’s certainly not displeasing to look at by any stretch of the imagination. Her skin is fair, like that of a porcelain doll’s, while she’s quite thin and delicate and practically looks as if her whole body could snap like a twig with a single hit. There are no notable abnormalities in her proportions.
Face & Hair A slight oval face of pallid complexion; Scarlette’s most notable facial features are her eyes, which normally appear to be a very dark shade of brown, equivalent to a rich chocolate and glossed with a similar sheen. A thin nose and lips do not impact her look all too much, though while her mouth appears quite small, her smile can seem unnaturally wide. This woman’s raven hair is typically kept cropped into a slightly messy bob cut with bangs, just about covering her brow, and is more often than not decorated by a black Alice headband upon which a simple white bow sits.
Wardrobe Choice Scarlette’s typical attire consists of a relatively simple Gothic Lolita fashion dress, being black in colour with a laced-up at the front bodice and twin-layered skirt falling just past the knee. The hems are frilled, with the lower layer of skirt being white. The sleeves are divided into two parts; a puffed shoulder from which extends a three-quarter length white sleeve. Beneath this she wears a set of white thigh-high socks, contrasting against simple, black slip-on shoes.
Aura & Magical Influence As with the vast majority of humans, Scarlette’s naturally exuded aura is a silver-white. However, as she tends to rely far more upon the use of her magic and sorcery than her Ki, it is rarely witnessed. While channeling magical power, other aesthetic changes come to the fore; the most noticeable change is that her irises adopt a ruddy radiance, while the slightly blue tint of raven black hair turns more to a metallic purple sheen. From afar, such changes are rather minimalist, if not entirely unseen by the naked eye.
Grimoire Lovecraft No sorceress or witch is complete without her trusted book of spells and, while she might not be the fastest nor literate of readers, Scarlette’s no exception to the rule! Unfortunately, Scarlette’s terrible tome is also sentient, albeit silent. Its only means of communication is by opening its own pages and inscribing them with words and (primarily for its owner’s benefit) peculiar imagery. It is a worn book, about as tall as a sheet of A4 paper and with similarly sized leaf, with a black leather cover marked with ivory veins that give it a swirled, marbled effect. It has a slight purple sheen to it. The pages are an off-white and, more often than not, any inscriptions or artwork portrayed within are comprised of dark red or dark purple ink. Grimoire Lovecraft does have innate magical abilities of its own; it can shrink itself down to fit neatly in a pocket, levitate (though it needs to be relatively close to Scarlette in order to do so) and even lock itself so as to prevent anyone (apart from Scarlette) from opening it. It seems to lose all power when more than a handful of yards away from its owner, becoming little more than an empty book.
HISTORY
Originating from the eastern lands of Earth, Scarlette’s earliest memories of infancy in the loving care of her parents are naught but a haze of uncertainty. Certainly not a city girl by any stretch of the imagination, she remembers vague images of a slightly archaic village isolated in the wilds, perhaps leaving once or twice to see the greater sights of sprawling towns and mighty metropolises. She cannot recall the faces of mother and father, but she does remember what happened to separate her from them.
She was no older than four years at the time; her parents were struggling to make ends meet thanks to a swathe of misfortune that had forced them to delve into savings in order to keep their home and look after their daughter. At this point in time, they were desperate, conflicted. The wife wanted to keep the child and somehow hoped to find a way through the turmoil, while the husband was honestly considering giving the girl up for adoption to give her a better life. The disagreement distanced them. They had continuously turned to fellow villagers for help, but had been shunned; everyone who became involved experienced similar bad luck.
“That child is cursed,” some would whisper.
On the eve prior to her fourth birthday, a cold and rainy night, a stranger visited. A bizarre old woman with crooked, hooked nose and narrow, pale eyes stood at the door beneath the clouded, moonless sky. She asked if she could stay the night, needing shelter from the rain before she continued her pilgrimage to the far reaches of the continent. At first, Scarlette’s mother was reluctant, knowing how stretched they were already. The husband reassured her that it would be for just one night.
“I’ll be gone by sunrise,” the elder confirmed.
And so it was agreed. The night was a stormy one, yet despite the couple’s fears that the wind and thunder would deal significant and irreparable damage to their home (as their luck so far dictated), the place survived the hours unscathed. The morning brought welcome sighs of relief, up until the girl’s parents checked upon their daughter. Scarlette was not in her bed that morning; a matter which sent her parents into a blind panic and desperate search. The scoured her usual hiding places, but found nothing.
“I knew we shouldn’t have let her stay,” proclaimed Scarlette’s mother, pinning the blame upon the one anomaly of that fateful night. They feared their daughter had been taken, sunrise having passed and their unanticipated tenant supposedly having vanished as per her agreement. But, as they checked the cellar, they realised that was not the case. What they saw was far more disturbing. Wreathed in withered, thorny vines and dirty cobwebs was the desiccated husk of the elderly lady to whom they had offered refuge from the storm, identified by the pendant she wore around her neck and the vestiges of a wicked smile upon her ashen face.
They never found Scarlette. She had long since wandered off, before the dawn, drawn to an unknown locale somewhere in the farthest reaches. Confused and somewhat amnesic, the girl followed an unseen path for what must have been weeks. Food and rest seemed like alien concepts all of a sudden, her body practically immune to the pains of hunger, thirst and fatigue as she trekked through unknown territories.
She eventually reached her port of call, wherever it was. Secluded within a mountain pass, hidden deep within a network of caves intruded upon by temperate forest was an unusual building of Gothic architecture. Eerie light emanated from the stained glass windows, whilst creeping, thorny vines and darkened blossoms adorned various facets of the structure. As she waltzed yet closer still, doors of mahogany opened to greet the wayward child, entranced.
Within the building’s walls, Scarlette was greeted by a coven of folk with strangely similar powers; not a one was any younger than their late forties at best. Even the most youthful individual, sat upon a strange throne and radiating an intense presence, was aged by the silver of her hair. She greeted the wandering youth, revealing her name as Salem, and soon began to explain the workings of the group to the little girl. Though at first the true meaning of it went over Scarlette’s inexperienced head, the premise was simple enough; this was a cult of witches and warlocks (wielders of magic) whose powers invoked dark, forbidden and alien truths.
“Scarlette,” Salem said, “you’ve been chosen as the successor of Annis, one of our longest serving members, and thus I’ll help to teach you how to control the latent magic now coursing through you. It’s eating away at your life force in some ways, feeding you in others, but when mastered it’s a powerful tool.”
And thus Salem began to teach Scarlette the ways of the coven, though by no means was it quick. It took the best part of six years in isolation (her life’s span more than doubled), wrought with meditation and training and studying, before she mastered what many might’ve considered to be the basics of witchcraft. And then, her age twofold again just to attain mastery of slightly more complicated aspects of sorcery. However, with lessons learned and corrupt seeds sown within her ridiculously impressionable mind, the young witch was about to be let loose upon the world once more. By the laws of the coven she would act; humans (as she now strongly believed) were the true creations of the gods!
TECHNIQUES
Offence Melee, Conjuration Croissant Sanglant (N1|33%) “Bloody Crescent” Upon its initial cast, Scarlette conjures a phantasmal scythe of dark purple essence. From there, the weapon’s presence is otherwise inert and can only be manipulated by her hand, treating all else as incorporeal and passing through without harm nor effect. This supernatural armament remains present for as long as Scarlette wills it to and serves as a medium for this technique’s true effects and all of its iterations.
In using “Croissant Sanglant” Scarlette swings the ethereal halberd’s blade, which manifests her intent to strike as a brilliant carmine radiance, thus allowing the scythe to actually strike her foe as she attempts to cleave them with its crescent blade. Alternatively, she can throw the energy out at range, sending a cutting carmine crescent hurtling through the air to strike a distant or otherwise out of reach adversary.
Support Afterimage Étape Fantôme (SU1|100%) “Phantom Step” Scarlette attempts to dodge an incoming attack, using magic to briefly transform herself into an ethereal cloud of deep carmine mist and rendering herself invulnerable for a moment or two. Her body quickly reforms thereafter out of necessity, given the warping effects it has on her physical being, her life’s energy naturally attempts to pull her back together. It should be noted that she can still move in this state and must actually try and dodge the attack; if the whole cloud is hit, she will still be hit, so a choice of which attack to dodge when multiple threats are approaching must be made. As additional flavour, she can use this to slip through fences and other obstacles which are not solid obstructions.
Utility Energy Sensing Affinité (UT) “Affinity” Scarlette has the innate ability to sense the presence of others, perceiving them when her eyes are closed as points of light akin to stars in the night sky. To her otherworldly gaze, the brighter the star, the more power it exudes. Some of the most powerful individuals are effectively hard to look at while using this ability; akin to staring directly at the blazing sun, while weak souls are nothing more than distant flickers.
Notes Given I’ve already made and now scrapped several characters, I’d like to just skip the BP on this one, thanks!

Only real concern I have here is:
Why is she so young and appear so old? It seems... rather sketchy.

My general logic was that if humans (Roshi being perhaps the most notable canon example thanks to confirmed D.o.B.) can retain some of their youth via mastery of Ki/Magic/Shonen logic, then the opposite could also be true. In Scarlette’s case, the magic of Annis passing into her non-magical body had various side-effects as it struggled to stabilise; accelerated physical aging being the main one.

ehhhh, the problem I have with the character age is that it could lead to actual pedophilia, what with if someone tries to come onto your character, and she's only 8.
Either she'll need to be 8 and look relatively her own age, give or take a year, or be 20.

I has suggestion: what if her mind could ALSO mature as well, to the point where she can actually understand what sexuality and relationships are?

I do feel that such a concern is somewhat excessive, though I do get where you’re coming from. I’m not trying to be argumentative in any sense, more informative; under no circumstances do I ever cross that line in RP.
If it’s really that much of an issue, I can change it, though part of the reason I’ve even attempted that is to help further differentiate her character here from that of her original interpretation.

I understand you don't intend to do that. But it will set a terrible precedent in the future, with shakier grounds to deny something like this in the future. So I'm gonna need that age changed in some way. Sorry.
You could always try and get shape change as an ability. You could do that to simulate this change in appearance.

Compromise found, edits made! Sorry for being stubborn on these grounds, Vennel! I was honestly having some trouble finding the logic in the decisions, but I’m thinking that was more me clinging to an ideal more so than could be considered healthy. Nonetheless, all sorted, and surprisingly with very few edits required! Also, different theme song!

Lovely. I find nothing else wrong with this profile.
So unless someone else finds an issue with it, this is Tentatively Approved!
