Bobbing through the small village on the edge of Hell, the young spirit tried to ignore the feeling of discontent surging through her soul. It had been a number of days since the old man had given her the necklace, and there hadn’t been any other people capable of creating a new body. Of the few people who had the ability, all were unwilling, saying something along the lines of ‘just give it time; you already have your answer’. Such mystical bullshit that immediately flew over the young woman’s head. She still hadn’t found a read on where Blade’s aura was, nor had a chance to train to get stronger. Effectively, losing her body rendered her unable to progress any further in her mission to do...well, anything.
“Huh?” Tulip stopped, as a voice spoke in shock. Her gaze traveled upwards, meeting the eyes of a man she didn’t know, but could never forget. A Saiyan Warrior, dressed in casual garb, stood down the street facing her. He was a tall man, but didn’t radiate strength at all. She could feel a slight tremble running through her, as she recalled the beating that had almost ended her existence all those years ago. The man pointed towards her, before whispering. “Tulip...I’m so sorry.”
“What?” It was the girl’s turn to be shocked, as the scout she had lost so miserably ran forward, trying to hug the girl. She evaded his grip, before floating a distance away. “You tried killing me, dammit!”
“It’s your uncle!” The scout shouted, forcing an incredulous look from the spirit. That had to be a lie, he had fought her seriously all those years ago. Then the woman saw the tears in his eyes, as the man muttered under his breath. “That misunderstanding that happened between the two of us...was entirely my fault. But Prim betrayed me after I apologized, striking me down after I brought you back unconscious.”
Wait…Prim was Mother’s old name. She told me about it, saying she got rid of it when the Solar Saiyan Empire betrayed her and exiled her to Woatera. But...why did she tell me the scout tried to kill me? Shock was written on the woman’s ghostly face, as she struggled to come to terms with what the scout was saying.
“Your father, Theodore, only wanted to bring you and your mother to Vegeta; he had to be there for an assault that was about to commence. He sent me, since I was his brother-in-law. We both didn’t anticipate Prim...I mean, Plum’s reaction to your father embracing the SSE as his new home. He is under the impression you died, and your mother told him only hatred remained in Woatera for a traitor that left their home for another. He...has doubtless moved on, seeing as how its been 14 years since my death. Did you ever find him again, Tulip?”
The spirit floated closer to the Saiyan warrior, who was obviously more timid than he’d initially appeared. He scrubbed his eyes with his forearm, trying to dry up the tears that filled his eyes. He let his arm fall, an emotional smile on his face.
“I was so proud, when I fought you that day. I had worried you’d be dead or worse, but seeing you fight so passionately made me happy. You were everything I’d hoped to have in a niece, even if I did end up beating the hell out of you. Your kicks and punches were weak, but the determination behind them spoke levels about your future strength.”
“...I’m sorry, old man. I need some time to absorb this news.” Before the man could finish, Tulip floated away, leaving him alone with his snot and tears.
Why would my mother lie to me? It makes no sense? Did she hate her home that much, so knowing my father wanted to be there appalled her? Why did she kill her own brother? To ensure my father wouldn’t go home? Why?
Tulip’s thoughts were interrupted, as a burning sensation tore through her entire body. A pained gasp slipped from her lips, as she floated into the side of building. A quick glance showed she was still in an alley. Another wave of burning agony shot through her spirit form, stinging pain that she hadn’t felt since the day she had died. Her breathing came heavy as the spirit slowly slid to the ground, burning pain rising in levels.
Am I...dying permanently? This pain is too much, feels like it is going to rip me apart from within.
Falling forward onto her elbows...wait, elbows? Tulip felt the pain growing even more, agonizingly burning through every inch of her frame. Another, sharp gasp slipped through her clenched teeth, as she realized her body was regaining burning feeling. The young woman slammed against the wall by her side, not feeling the pain but registering the cool feeling of the building on her burning skin. She gasped as she slid into a seated position. The bauble on her neck was glowing silver; how she had missed that little detail when the pain started was beyond her.
Tulip shakily raised one hand up, laughing weakly as she counted all the fingers she now had. That...old man was honest after all. She let her hand fall, nejoying the cool feel of air on her hot skin, realizing now she was drenched in sweat after the painful transformation. Letting a weak sigh slip from her lips, the young woman closed her eyes and let her head fall back.
“That moan was way too slutty, pervert lady.” Her emerald gaze snapped open, revealing a white spirit bobbing in the air in front of her. The yellow eyes that stared at her were clearly human, sans the color. The gaze was heavensward, which made Tulip’s gaze drop. A crimson blush filled her face, as she realized the gem had given her a body, but not the clothes to go with it. The spirit continued speaking, adjusting its witch’s hat as it did. “Your way of getting a body was way too flashy, ya know. Are you a teenager? Or a woman? That body raises questions.”
“Excuse me for not being curvy.” Tulip glared at the spirit, realizing the feminine edge to her words. This was a female ghost, doubtless a witch based on the hat. Closing her eyes, Tulip tried to focus on summoning the clothes she had died with, to include her weights. The pendant burned on her chest, before suddenly vanishing. Her eyes snapped open, revealing the pendant now sat on top of her clothing and weights, which had materialized as a result of the pendant’s strength. “Wow...this bauble is pretty powerful stuff.”
“I want it.” The witch’s voice was firm, causing Tulip’s gaze to shift up. The yellow-eyed spirit moved closer, staring at the necklace Tulip wore. The hybrid gripped it firmly, before shaking her head.
“Nothing in this world is free; you’ll need to give me a hand before I let you have this bauble. You okay with that?” Tulip rose to her feet, already pushing the encounter with her ‘uncle’ to the back of her mind. The witch floated closer, nodding firmly.
“I got you, comrade! Bauble for help in traversing Hell!”
