It was at the bottom of the night. The sacred lookout, known for housing many great heroes from around the world, was deathly quiet. Only one figure made it's way through the ancient halls. Darkness seeped through the windows, letting only the starlight illuminate the pathway. The figure stopped, turning it's attention to the door leading to Etoru's room.... ...Only to reluctantly pull away from it moments later. It was the scent of metal and old blood that seemed scare off the figure. That medley of scents served as a constant reminder of his heinous injuries and the figure could not bear to think of the agony the boy went through, and as such it moved onward with a heavy heart. The figure eventually stepped out into the starlight, revealing itself to be none other than the kitsune: Akemi of the Inari clan. The elder demoness' normally coy and relaxed air that she was known for was replaced by something far more somber. While she still wore a smile (albeit a bitter one) the normally mischievous glint to her emerald hues was gone, giving her an almost lifeless expression. It was the look of one haunted and hurting by a ghost of their past. Yet, unlike those who looked to the world with listless regret she wasn't just refusing to move on from the past. She could hardly believe it... There was no mistaking it however. The power she felt: was definitely HIS. ...So, upon reaching the center most point of the lookout: the kitsune would gently descend to her knees before taking a seated meditative position. She closed her heavy lids and let out an exhale. With every breath, more and more of the element of water's magical essence would bubble in her soul. It filled her mind and freed it from the shackles of worry and emotion giving her a sense of serenity. The elder let out another exhale and tapped into the flow of the world. She reached out to the presence....
Within Ouroboros' dreamscape, an unknown power would stir. Like a memory of a time long since passed: the figure of an imposing kitsune with nine shimmering tails would approach him. Each step she took would cause a ripple to rip through the plane clearing the path between them more and more until only she and Ouroboros stood...
"Why have you come back?"

A dark figure rests peacefully in an inky black abyss. The mind-scape of Ouroboros was blank during his time of rest. He had some things to think about, sure, but he was much more interested in sleeping. Something about his fleshy, vein-coated prison made him quite drowsy. He shifted from one side to the next, sighing contently as he rested his head on his arm. It was quite cozy, and he would have been fine just slumbering until he was awoken again, but an unwelcome voice penetrated his ears. "Why have you come back?" The Demon Lord groaned. He knew that voice all too well. Part of him had hoped the owner of the voice had withered and died centuries ago, but he knew he wasn't lucky enough for fortune of that magnitude. Instead he would have to deal with the least enjoyable portion of his old life again. His eyes opened, and to his dismay, a nine-tailed fox goddess stood above him. Her tails flowed aimlessly behind her, and her expression was deathly serious. Ouroboros rolled his eyes, and stood up slowly. He placed a hand on his hip, giving Akemi a lazy once-over. Still as lame as the last time, Ouroboros decided.
"I hope you know that if this is a collect call I'm not accepting any charges."He strolled around the nine-tailed fox, his eyes lethargically travelling across her body as he circled her. "You've come to a dangerous place, you know." He waved his hand across the depths of nothingness around him. "A bored mind is a terrible thing to disturb. You never know what I might think up."
Ouroboros moved a few locks of hair out of his eyes, before folding his arms across his chest. "As for why I've returned, that's quite simple: I was asked to. It just so happens the person who asked was polite... Unlike some people I know."
The Demon paused for a moment, bringing his wrist to his face to check a watch that wasn't there, before feigning surprise. "Would you look at the time! I've got to get going soon! Maybe you can cut to the chase and not try to give me a grand speech about how my choices in the past were wrong, hm?"

Inari cut her gaze to the ground: hearing his voice again, after countless centuries, was something that hit her with a wave of emotion that physically caused her to buckle. Yet, she righted herself to stand strong. Even in his presence. The demoness puffed her chest with an inhale as she stepped toward Ouroboros. "...I see, even after so many years, you have not changed. It is as comforting as it is frightening if I may be frank." She spoke as her shimmering tails flared backward. They ended up fanning out to fill the abyssal void with a flicker of light so she may look at his face once again.
"...I had hoped, that when I sensed your presence you would have returned. Not just physically, but spiritually." She reached a hand out, not to strike the silver haired prince, but to cup his cheek gently. "For the sake of brevity, I will not bore you with the speeches you will certainly ignore." Her eyes remained fixated on his amber hues.
"But..."
Her voice trembled as she brought herself to speak. "You know I couldn't have walked down that path with you. My sweetest friend, as much..." She felt her voice choke for a moment as she was strangled by her emotions. "...As much as I wished to stay by your side. It was not to be. I never would have wished for your death though. I'm truly sorry I couldn't have prevented that." She pulled away the warmth of her hand as she stepped back.
"That was then."
She looked up to the man with a knitted brow. "If you squander this second chance, Ouroboros, by staying on this path." her hands balled into fists as she narrowed her pupils into narrow slits. The shimmering tails seemed to dull, letting the darkness of Ouroboros' mind slightly obscure her features. "I will do everything in my power. To send you back to that pit."

Ouroboros' eyes widened at Inari's words. For once, he wasn't going to hear some long spiel about the atrocities he committed, and how continuing will take him down a dark path. His disinterested expression brightened into a smile. He had to admit; a part of him had missed his old childhood friend. Feeling her touch again warmed his heart. Sadly, however, his happiness was short lived as the fox goddess continued. She pulled away after her words, trying to sway him from his goals.
"Oh my. So scary. What are you going to do, my girl? Cuddle me to death with your tails? Last I checked, you were but a mere paper tiger in the storm that is my power." He clicked his tongue, looking away in disgust for a moment. He was slipping into his father's mannerisms again. What the hell did "paper tiger" even mean?
The Demon Prince gave Inari a harsh look, placing his hands on his hips as he spoke again. "I really hope you've got some ace up your sleeve, Foxy, or else I'll have to make our eventual battle a very short one."

"I've taken on another student in your absence." Inari revealed, lowering her head a bit as she tried to fight away the genuine smile of the man she used to know. "She's the descendant of Rakshasa, and current 'Kami' of Earth." She closed her eyes as she remembered the devastation the great lord caused in his prime. The clans that were leveled with a single stroke of his blade. The fury that he reveled in. "She's a gentle soul, but I can still see the fires of her bloodline burning in her eyes." The elder kitsune gave a bitter laugh to herself while giving a little shake of her head.
"Some things can't be trained away...Though I suppose I knew that from back when we were young." She looked back up meeting Ouroboros' gaze as she tried to recall earlier memories of the two of them. "I may be just a 'paper tiger' as you so elegantly stole it but all storms end up being quelled, in the end."As she finished speaking, she'd let in a sharp shaky inhale, as if the words physically pained her. She frowned, and with drooping ears and creased brows as she stepped closer back into the light.
"Dammit...I..."
A glistening tear dropped down, creating a ripple in the darkness as the Kitsune covered her face for a moment.
"I can't do this...I can't bring myself to hate you."
Despite all the cryptic warnings, in that instant she stood as the girl that he once knew. With emerald eyes glistening with tears the golden kitsune would part her lips, and plead with the man.
"Please...Addie...I don't want to lose you again. Don't make me do this. Don't force me to end things like this. I don't want to watch you destroy yourself." She trembled as the words dribbled out of her mouth. "I kept telling myself...Over and over...All of these long years...That...You were rotten and I was mistaken about you but... I can't..."
She really was a pathetic excuse for a teacher.

Ouroboros' ears twitched at Inari's words. Another student? Before he could wonder who it was, she revealed it herself, causing the Demon Prince to chuckle. "Hoho! A gentle Rakshasa Kami?! That's a new one. What's next? Gonna tell me she married a Human?"
The conversation continued, and while Inari did her best to be strong, her resolve eventually faltered. It was clear her feelings for Ouroboros got in the way of what she had come here to say. It was cute in a way, how much she cared. If only she'd cared enough to stay by his side all those years ago, then maybe this conversation wouldn't have even happened in the first place.
She pleaded with Ouroboros, trying to convince the ancient Demon to return to the light. A frown formed on the Demon's face, as he spoke somberly. "Foxy... You don't have to lose me." He reached his hand out, trying to grip her softly by the shoulder. "Come with me. Like I asked you to all those years ago. We can forget that Kami of yours and cause chaos together!"

"..."
Inari walked over to the silver haired demon and merely stared into his eyes one last time. For a long while, she felt like a kit again, trying her best to seem 'mature' and proud for her younger friend. How she longed for those days again. Maybe, in another time she could have really stayed by his side. She placed a hand on the one that rested upon her shoulder as she looked down to the darkness below imagining it. Her nine glittering tails slowly wrapped around the demonic prince and pulled him to her so she could hold him in a warm embrace.
"Addie. You know I long to stay by your side."
Her clawed fingers dug into his back as she clutched him close. It was almost like she were stalling herself by holding on to the moment for as long as she physically could.
"Balance and Chaos. It is what we are, at our cores. Like the Yin and Yang, however: we can stand side by side but we can never be together. Our ideals will forever keep us apart." As Inari spoke, her body would start to fade from his mind like a fleeting dream. Her lips curled up into a bitter smile as she pulled away from him ever so slightly.
"...I refuse to give up on you however. You are something that is precious to me and I will try to sway you. Even to the bitter end." With that final word, Inari would place a soft kiss on the demon lord's cheek before fading away entirely. Leaving him back to his lonesome darkness.
