Gira's Summer Training Excursion - Day One
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Gira groaned as her alarm clock jolted her awake. It was the first day of summer vacation, but she wasn't going to be doing much vacationing. Today, she was going to put into motion a scheme that would allow her to spend the next three weeks on a rigorous training schedule. Kaci was going to summer camp this year, and Gira's mother let her go along, even letting her take the old car so that they could drive themselves. Gira wasn't going with Kaci, however. The two were going to part ways after they were a safe distance away from Gira's mother and Gira was going to fly off on her own, seeking out a place to train for the next few weeks. The teen was reconsidering the idea at this point, however. Now that it was 7am on a Saturday and she had to wake up. Sleeping in all summer seemed the more attractive option. Still, she forced herself to get out of bed, take a shower, brush her teeth, get dressed, and brush her hair. When she went downstairs, she could smell that her mother had already made breakfast. She could tell even without seeing it what it was; pancakes, sausage links, and scrambled eggs; her favorite. She felt bad about misleading her mother so that she could go on this excursion, but there was no way she was going to let Gira go if she told her the truth. The brunette walked into the kitchen, her mother plating the last of the pancakes.
"Good morning, sweetheart. You sleep okay?" She smiled and set the plate down on the kitchen table. Gira took her seat and began eating.
"Yeah, I guess. Just wish I didn't have to get up so early." Gira sleepily munched on a link of sausage. Her mother sat at the table with her own plate.
"Well, orientation at the camp is at eleven in the morning. You gotta be up if you want to pick up Kaci and get there in time." Gira averted her gaze from her mother and nodded.
"Uh, yeah. Thanks for letting me take the car, by the way." As she began to shake off her sleepiness, she began to chow down on her food, cleaning six stuffed plates in less than twenty minutes. Gira's mother knew her appetite and was sure to make plenty of food, thankfully. Gira and her mother talked for a bit until it was time for her to go. The two said their goodbyes and Gira drove to Kaci's house. Once the other girl entered the vehicle, she asked Gira a simple question.
"She buy it?" Then she stared at Gira expectantly.
"Hm? Oh, yeah." Gira was still uncomfortable with lying to her mother though, and so she began driving in the direction of the camp. Kaci took out her phone and started texting.
"You could actually come with me. You know, instead of abandoning me there." She joked. Gira smiled and chuckled lightly.
"Sorry, Kaci. I gotta get stronger if I want to protect the city." Her expression turned serious for a moment. "It's only a matter of time before something stronger than a bank robber threatens our home. I gotta be ready." Gira stared ahead, determined. The other teen groaned and slouched in her seat.
"I knooooow, it just sucks. I don't even want to go to this stupid camp. My mom is making me. 'You're not just going to lay around the house all summer, Kaci. You're going to go out and have fun, Kaci. Blah blah blaaaah.'" She said in a high-pitched, nasally voice that was meant to sound like her mother.
"Nice impression." Gira joked, digging in her bag for a granola bar. "She just wants you to enjoy the precious few years you have left before adulthood, you know." Gira pulled out her snack and unwrapped the wrapper, taking a small bite.
"Well, I can enjoy my life just fine from my computer, thank you." Kaci pouted, eliciting a giggle from her friend. The two drove for an hour or so. Once they were a safe distance form the city, on a back road, Gira stopped the car.
"Well, try to have fun, Kace. I'll be back in three weeks to drive us home." The two got out of the car and Kaci got into the driver's seat.
"Yeah, yeah. You get strong and stuff so you can kick more butt." Gira gave her a thumbs up and then Kaci drove off. Gira looked around the wooded back road.
"Hm. Now what?" She looked around, wondering where she could go to train. She heard that certain athletes preferred to train at higher elevations because of the thinner air. Perhaps somewhere mountainous? The north would be good for that. Gira slowly ascended into the air, assessing where she was. "Okay... this way." She zoomed off to the north, looking for a good, tall mountain to train on. Half an hour into the flight,one-hundred fifty miles south of North City, she spotted the perfect mountain. It was forested, not snow-capped, and was plenty large enough and far enough away from civilization for her to train to her heart's content. The girl landed near the summit, taking a deep breath. The air certainly was thinner here. But it was negligible. It wouldn't affect her performance much. That was just the nature of having alien blood, she guessed.
Still, this wasn't a bad training spot, so she would use it. As she landed, the young half-Saiyan began to think of basic survival information. "Let's see... i'll need shelter, water, and food. In that order." She had brought some food to eat until she could find a good food source, but it wasn't much. If she stretched it, it would last her three days. She would have to hunt and fish eventually. Water was a different matter. She only brought a few bottles. Enough to last two days. She had seen some streams during her fly-over. Maybe there would be a good place to place her shelter. Gira didn't think she would have a problem finding wood, either. This forest was thick with trees.
With a nod, Gira began traversing the forested landscape, making her way east, where she remembered she saw a small river. An hour of walking led her to the river. The girl examined the area. The river was at the bottom of a large cliff, so it was very defensible. Lots of wide open space left plenty of room for a shelter and a fire. With the stream right there, she had a food and water source. Not to mention the other wildlife that must be here. It was decided then. "Home sweet home." Gira mumbled as she scanned the surrounding area once more. Over the course of the next several hours, Gira chopped down trees with her bare hands to make a basic wood structure to serve as her house. It was triangular in nature and was built right up against the cliff.
It had a basic wooden slab that could be moved to cover the entrance and a single square opening to be used as a window. This too could be covered with a bundle of brush that she tied together with her shoelaces. She placed more dead brush and leaves as the roof to be used for insulation on the chilly nights. Using some ivy she found growing on the cliff, she fashioned a net. She had read of a character in a book that did that to catch fish when he was in a survival scenario as she was. As her net worked on catching her dinner, Gira put the finishing touches on her shelter and built a strong fire.
By the time the sun set, she had fish cooking over a fire and a shelter built, where she was lying in her makeshift bed of leaves and a single blanket as she read. She brought a single book with her to kind of stave off some of the boredom. It was one of her favorites; a series of plays by a playwright named Arnold Foreson. His plays always had a dark theme, and that kind of thing really spoke to her. The girl sniffed the air as she read. "Hm. It's done." She got up and put a bookmark in her book, setting it down while she went to check on her dinner. To her surprise though, when she got outside, the spit over the fire that had her fish was gone! Panicked, she looked around, her gaze eventually catching a large pterodactyl in the air, her dinner clutched in its talons. "Hey, you!" Gira cried out angrily at the large winged creature. It looked back at her, panicked, and flapped its wings faster. Gira was much faster and was about to just rush the creature and get her dinner back when it went into a cave on the side of the mountain.
Gira followed it inside and saw why it had stolen her dinner. In a large nest inside this cave, six baby pterodactyls were greedily feeding on the fish their mother offered them. Gira leaned against the cavern wall as she watched the scene. She couldn't help but smile. "Well, I guess it's trail mix tonight." She sighed and turned around, leaving the creatures to her food. After dinner, she began her training. While building the shelter was strenuous, she wasn't going to use that as an excuse to miss training tonight. She had two large trees connected by rope that she brought, using them as weights for her to lift. She swam for hours upstream after that and was exhausted by the time she got back to camp. When Gira collapsed in her bed, she slept like a rock until the next morning.

Gira's Summer Training Excursion - Day Two
The bright sunshine shone through a crack in the roof and onto Gira's face, slowly waking the teen half-Saiyan up. She had some more trail mix for breakfast and filled her empty bottles at the stream before setting her net again. Gira yawned and began her morning exercises. Now that she didn't have to build a shelter, a net, or anything else today, she could dedicate the entire day to intense training. After her warm-up, the real training began. Gira found another large cliff, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. Let's do this... She suddenly thrust her arm out and fired her Watcher Cannon at the cliff, a large slab of stone dozens of feet thick breaking off and beginning a slow slide down towards Gira.
"Yah!!!" The teen thrust her arm out again and fired a second Watcher Cannon, blowing the large slab of stone into smaller boulders that rained on her from above. Gira dodged and blasted the boulders to bits, but one escaped her notice and struck her in the back, causing her to fall to the ground. She reacted quickly though and dodged a boulder that nearly fell on her, blasting another one that was in her way. When the rain of stone stopped, Gira took a moment to catch her breath. She had a single close call, but she didn't do bad at all. After that, she did image training. Finding a tranquil clearing in the forest, Gira closed her eyes and cleared her mind, envisioning a powerful Saiyan that had decided to destroy West Capitol.
She envisioned herself as the Watcher, going onto the scene to stop this villain. This Saiyan was powerful. Much more powerful than her. This was Gira's worst-case scenario. She fought this Saiyan to no avail. With a smirk, he dodged each and every one of her attacks, and then batted away her Watcher Cannon as though it was nothing.
"Lose hope yet, hero?" He said mockingly. Before the despair could set in, the invader launched himself forward and clotheslined Gira, flinging her into the local museum through the glass roof. Gira flinched when she tried to move. She was spread out on the lobby floor of the museum, several scratches on her face and her outfit torn and frayed in several places from when she crashed through the skylight. Her mask was removed and on the ground in several pieces next to her.
She looked up at the ceiling to see her opponent floating above, giving her a sinister and satisfied smirk. He raised his arm, palm aimed at her. A yellow sphere of ki formed in his hand. "Farewell... failure." With a slight chuckle, he fired the attack right at the young half-Saiyan before letting it loose. Gira screamed in pain as the yellow ball of ki expanded into a massive, red explosion, destroying everything around it. The museum, the city, all of its people, even Gira. Once the training was over, she opened her eyes and gasped, falling to her knees and breathing heavily.
"Damn it!" It was an expected outcome. She needed to think of something new. Some strategy that could help her when she truly needed it.
