Greeve had long lost sight of the spirit known as Denim, as the disembodied demon drifted around the depths of hell. This place seemed to go on forever with no end. Then again, considering this is supposed to contain the damned in the universe, it only made sense that this place would be limitless. A never ending prison for the wicked and the cruel. He could only imagine heaven, the reward for the good, was equally expansive. Maybe there was a way he could get up there and check it out? The odds were slim though. After all, if anyone could escape hell into heaven, then there would be no point in having the two separated.
Though where Greeve found himself did cause him to rethink that thought for a moment. While he had been floating around barren wasteland, where he was now was a bright and colorful field, filled with flowers. Apart from that though, the place seemed empty, until Greeve spotted what looked like a tree in the distance. Curiosity gripped him as he floated his way towards it, before something reached his non-existent ears. Was that music? And singing? Joyful signing by the sound of it. Why would someone be joyful about being in hell?
When he approached the tree, the sight he saw greatly confused him. It looked like a swarm of fairies and animated toys, parading around and singing. This...was NOT what Greeve had expected at all. What were these things doing in hell?
Then he saw what was hanging from the tree, and it slowly began to make sense.
Hanging from the tree was a large cocoon, about the size of a person. Wrapped up in that cocoon, with only his head visible, was a white and purple alien. An Arcosian Greeve identified him as. The Arcosian was just hanging there, his eyes glaring daggers at everything around him and silently fuming. Not screaming or venting in rage, just fuming. Something told the bodiless demon that he had been hanging there for a while.
"It seems cruel and unusual punishment is a thing here. And here I thought eternal damnation was more straight forward."
Greeve's interjection caused everyone to stop and turn their attention towards the floating black cloud. At first, the little singers and dancers were curious, before their smiles returned. "Hello there!" they cheered out, swarming around him, "Did you want to play with us?" While Greeve knew they were supposed to be the poor Arcosian's tormentors, they were just so damn adorable Greeve would have smiled if he was capable. "No thank you. I am however curious about your hanging friend there."
The fairies parted as Greeve slowly floated up towards the Arcosian, who was now glaring at him. "And what are you here for?" the Arcosian snarled, "Another new torture sent here to drive me insane?" "No," Greeve replied calmly, "Just a spirit curious about a strange sight he happened to stumble across." The Arcosian snarled. "So I'm just some novelty to you!? A little sideshow freak!? I've destroyed worlds! I ruled countless planets! I will not be made some damn attraction! Me! Lord-"
"Who you were, and what you were, are of no importance now." Greeve cut him off, clearly not frightened of the ranting Arcosian. The Arcosian had stopped completely dead, almost shocked by the spirit's audacity. "I am curious though, what did you do to deserve such a punishment? Not to mention, unlike myself, you possess your own body. I'm curious how you came upon it, especially since you're trapped in this cocoon." The Arcosian was seething, glaring daggers at the cloud in front of him. "For your information," the arcosian seethed, "My only crime was being beaten by that damn, FILTHY MONKEY!" being reminded of his death caused the Arcosian to thrash about in a rage. Greeve sat there, silently watching him to tire himself out in his futile attempt. "I should have wiped out that damn monkey when I had the chance! Just scoured the galaxy for every last one of them!"
It didn't take a genius to figure out that arcosian was talking about the Saiyan race. So, this arcosian had attempted a genocide of the race? While Greeve couldn't help but admire the goal, he knew very well how this had ended. And a malicious part of Greeve couldn't help but rub that in his face. "I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are more 'filthy monkeys' now then the one who slayed you. In fact, they have a whole empire." At Greeve's words, the arcosian froze in place. "More...? You mean...they're back!?" Greeve nodded if he could have. Instead, he settled with, "Correct."
The Arcosian was frozen for a moment, his mind trying to process what he just heard. "No....No. NO! NO! NONONONONONONONONOOOOOO!" The arcosian began thrashing around wildly, screaming over and over again. Greeve watched for a moment, before deciding he wasn't going to get any information out of the tormented being. Slowly, he turned and began to float away. "He's all yours," The spirit said as he floated away, the fairies going to try and comfort the screaming Arcosian.
Maybe Greeve could find the information he sought elsewhere. But he did learn something interesting about Hell. Punishment came in all forms.
