"Say, yer all geared up and with a sword to boot! Y'all some kinda warrior or somethin'? I reckon yer trained somethin' fierce.”
“I can fight too! I'm gonna be a hero to make my Ma proud! I gotta get strong to keep my home safe y'hear?”
"We gotta save the folks who can't save themselves!”
“So how bout we have ourselves a good ol' fashioned tussle?"
“I wanna see how strong y'all are!"
Maeve's golden eyes opened and slowly adjusted to the new world around her. The familiar scent of salty air, wet sand, and fresh air teased her nostrils as she inhaled. The sounds of gulls crying, the crashing waves, and the distant hum of a tractor filled her pointed ears as she settled her gaze on the figure in front of her. She was taken back to her first arrival on Earth, or at least a version of it. Her headfins shot up in alarm as she took in the unfamiliar sight of the empowered Scampi Shrimp. The small wannabe hero of her timeline was replaced by a toned, scared, and fully armored knight. She wouldn't have recognized the young man if he wasn't wearing the brass pot 'helmet' that both variants seemed to favor.
"So...How bout it?" The country knight asked, pointing his jewel encrusted blade toward the demoness as a confident smile rest on his lips. "I'll even sweeten the deal, yasee if y'all win: I'll bring ya home and let ya have some of my Ma's world famous cranberry pie! How's that sound?” He excitedly beamed as he readied himself for the answer he knew was coming.
Maeve couldn't help but grin as she summoned Fateburn into one of her six hands. She pointed it toward the boy and crossed blades with his. Their eyes met as the fires of friendship and comradery burned between them. Maeve's silvery aura flared around her form as Scampy let loose his own aura of amethyst.
"...I would like nothing more."
With a flash of mixed energy the two would dash backwards, kicking up a storm of sand and dust between them. Maeve had only a moment to ready herself before the boy was on top of her readying an overhead cleave with his greatsword. He cried out, slamming down with all his weight only to be deflected by Maeve's cleaver. The demoness stepped forward as she pushed the boy's slash aside only to move into a charging shoulder strike. Scampi's eyes widened as he was suddenly slammed against with the Kami's full weight. He skid back a few feet but stabbed his blade deep into the sand to steady himself as he slid.
"Phew-wee! Y'all are certainly somethin' special! Y'all don't git a big ol' head now Y'hear?" The Farm-Knight smirked freeing his blade before lowering into a stance remarkably similar to Maeve's. "Y'all ain't seen nothin' yet though! This one is a real hoot I'll tell ya hwhat!" He called out as he lowered his legs and began to charge his blade with purple electricity. "This move is a bigger riot than a steer at the rodeo!" Maeve instantly recognized the technique.
Their eyes met as Maeve mirrored the stance, charging her blade with arcs of white and black electricity.
Scampi's grin only grew as he shook his head. "Shoot! Looks like y'all have been to this rodeo! Ah well...It'll still be a rip snortin good time! Go on and git ready then! Cause I'm gonna go all out!" He yelled letting his aura flash around him, sand and shells whipping about.
"THUNDERIN..."
"...THRUST!"
The two fighters cried out in unison before launching forward into streaks of light. Silver and Purple crashed together in the center of the beach creating an explosion of light with the ring of metal meeting metal at high speeds. Scampi and Maeve both growled in their sword lock as each of them pressed down against the freshly made film of glass beneath them. As the glass began to crack beneath their weight the two would break away by jumping back a few feet.
"Another!"
"Y'all read my mind!"
Both warriors launched into another Thunder Thrust shattering the glass as they tore through it and filling the air with glittering fragments. The force of the two warrior's charge drew the shards in only to have them explode out as they once again impacted violently.
"S-so strong! I'm impressed!" Maeve gasped as she marveled at the boy's ability to hold his own.
"I told y'all didn't I? I'm gonna be a hero..." He knocked Maeve's sword aside with a mighty swipe before righting his stance. "...To make my Ma proud!" He cried out as he spun into another vicious overhead slash.
Maeve's entire body tensed as she clasped her top set of hands against the encroaching blade to catch it mid swing. She snarled as a shockwave of force exploded around them, threatening to shake her grip. She panted, a bead of sweat falling from her forehead as she stared at her own reflection in Scampi's blade. Her arms trembled for a moment, straining to keep the boy's blade away, as she readied her blade in her other hands. "Well...I know you'll...Succeed!" Maeve cried out releasing his blade only to crash against it with an upward arc of her blade, freeing their lock once more.
The high pitched whine of metal cracked the air over and over again as the two continued clashing their blade's against one another. Each swipe was met with a bat, each thrust was parried with a slash, and each stab was stopped with a well timed block. It seemed the two were evenly matched in skill leaving only raw power as an option to overcome their foe.
"Yer one heck of a fighter! I'm really enjoyin myself! Y'all are gonna have to stick around! We'll be like two peas in a pod!" Scampi excitedly declared as the two of them took a moment to catch their breaths. "I reckon we both know that this ain't gonna last for much longer. What do y'all say to one final clash? Winner takes all!" He asked, resting his hefty blade on his shoulder as he awaited an answer.
"Let's do it...I'll hit you with my signature attack!" The golden Kami responded, standing up straight while tightly wrapping her fingers around Fateburn's hilt.
Both warriors walked toward one another to fill the gap between them. Towering auras raged around them in a multicolored inferno. The two readied in a mirrored stance as both of them launched forward in a synchronized Chaotic Rebellion Star.
The force of the their frenzied clash had enough energy discharge to distort the magic in the Pendulum Room. As they met blade for blade splintered fragments of memories from the past, present and possible future appeared around them. Among them were Lady Rime's Assault, 'Uncle' Scampi holding a baby Ember up, Maeve teaching Scampi and Defrosch in her school, and finally an image of an adult Scampi happily standing beside Maeve and her family at the lookout.
A final chime of metal ended the fight as Maeve struck out against Scampi's greatsword one last time. The bejeweled weapon spun through the air before sinking into the sand a few feet away causing the Farm-Knight to fall back on his rear.
"D-dang! Y'yall win! I yield! I yield!" He cried out, holding up his hands and waving them defensively as he let the fatigue from the battle wash over him.
Maeve smiled however and leaned down to offer the fallen boy a hand. "Heehee...How about we go try some of that pie together?" She asked, her tail wagging back and forth with excitement.
Scampi looked to the scaled hand for only a second before letting a big dopey grin cross on his face. With a chuckled he'd reach up and take her hand.
