Using the Konki Shiba, or Energy Branch technique, in front of the Ryashi Nai-Ran was not the first time Houri ever learned to use her ki to stretch her fingers out like vines. In fact, the technique is a highly common one repeatable by any Florian whether they have full or partial Florian blood. it just takes extreme amounts of practice and a lot of energy to perform since one's fingers do not stretch so easily at first when this technique is used. In Houri's case, the only time she used it consciously in recent years was to help her friend Calla Lily with her most recent sleeping habit, and is just a resurfacing of old training she'd forgotten about years ago.

A little girl named Holly Sprig found herself in the same horrible classroom in her Florian bamboo village learning one of the most essential techniques of the Florian species. A special support technique called the Konki Shiba, or Energy Branch, that her mother had been famous for and allowed the Florians to grow vines without much ki usage from their hands. These vines could bind a person based on their power level versus the user's, however, it was such a basic technique that everyone thought they'd have it down pat. One person who did not was Holly as she stood before her opponent a young girl with black hair and green eyes and tried to focus the green energy in her body on her.
"Come on!" the girl cried, she wore blue shorts and a white t-shirt and stood bare foot before her friend as growled at Holly who was only creating a green aura around herself. A few flowers began to sprout as was yelled at but they instantly died as Holly stood there with her eyes shut wearing an orange t-shirt and blue jeans. She pushed out more energy continuously and the girl, who was actually Calla Lilly, cried, "Don't make us Half-Florians look bad Holly!"
"I know! I know!" Holly cried as the teacher watched them with a sense of pity in her eyes. Every one of the other ten students in the class was already prepped to use the technique and was currently either grasping their chosen foe's hands with thick vines or even going as far as trying to choke their foe with their new tools. Yes, Florian society was a lot more brutal in these recent years then was to be expected, but Holly didn't want to choke or hurt new classmate and friend Calla with her skills. It would just make them both feel bad she thought, however, as she stood there Calla raised three fingers on her left hand and launched three vines from whipping Holly across the face before using them to cover her eyes.
"Come on... I'll hurt you again but now you should assuredly have your eyes covered." Calla had done this because she knew Holly was afraid of pain most of the time and made it her goal to try to get her friend suited to the pain as they stood there being the center of attention. She only hoped she now had blinded Holly enough as the blood running down her forehead and two cheeks looked pretty bad and seemed to be something that actually might detract from Holly's ability to produce any results.
A clock borrowed from nearby humans in the jungle ticked the time away and the teacher looked at it thinking, "Class is almost done. So hurry up you brat before I have to force myself to extend my lesson into next week." Florian society had become pretty harsh due to living on a planet crammed with misunderstanding humans and many of the Florians hated it. Yet as the teacher stood there waiting Holly finally unleashed her wrath sending five vines out of her thumb and four fingers on her right hands. She used them to strike at Calla's feet and brought her to the floor.
"Oomph!" the young dark-skinned girl cried as she hit the floor. Her vines slackened and so did Holly's vines and the class cheered. Though they hated the two for various reasons they were finally glad the slackers got to working through the Konki Shiba properly since they were wasting precious time elsewhere like defending the village from bad humans for example.
The class ran out of the classroom with the teacher walking swiftly behind them and Holly panted as she suddenly found Calla rising to her feet. "Good job!" the girl cried as she grabbed Holly and quickly pulled her outside to play. "What did those vines feel like?"
"Sharp finger nails..." Holly muttered. Calla nodded and said, "Think about the vines as an extension of your hand and its fingers and you should be fine." Holly and Calla headed deep into the forest and with that a day of possibly tedious training ended.

In the present...
Holly traveled the snowy mountains of the north and wondered about her friend Calla Lilly as she did she noted that a strange thought was coming back to her as the snow reached up to her ankles. "I remember learning something odd back when I was much younger," she noted as she traveled through the snow and found herself soon at a mountain cliff with no way to climb it. "I think I can extend my fingers... Yes, yes I can, it was the Konki Shiba." And so with that she traversed up to the top of a cliff by raising her hand and flowing energy through her fingertips to create for herself vine-like ropes to pull herself up with. It was still cold in the mountains and she wondered if staying with Emer had been a better idea then what she was doing. Traversing the north alone without any sense of direction (as she had) was a bad thing to do, but there was nothing to help that. She saw strangely a light in the distance and noticed a small town ahead. What she did not know was this place was Jingle Village. Here she would find shelter from the cold.
