Thread PL: 269,415 In the world of the living, only two people currently knew the ancient techniques of the Crane School. One was the lover and student of both recent masters, and the other, a friend of the same. The latter, the Demon Tree, flew over the landscape, searching out the home that he had been directed to. Events had kept him busy, and the place was very hard to locate in the massive Bamboo Forest, but finally, he had found it. Alighting outside, about a dozen meters away, he looked around. It hadn't been made clear who he might find, but presumably was someone Rei cared for very much. He was glad he had finally managed to track them down. His mind's influence spread outward, and he broadcast his mental voice for all nearby to hear. "Pardon me, but I have a message from Reikiko, former Master of the Crane School, and my teacher after she perished. Is anyone here?" Letu

Three Months, give or take. That was how long it had been since Letu had felt the surge of energy coming from space, one that terrified her to the core. That had also been how long it had been since the two comforting presences she always felt suddenly became two voids. At first, she had been shattered. She settled into a state of denial. There was no way that they both could have died. They were impossibly powerful. Nobody out there could beat them in an outright battle. That denial lasted for two weeks. After that, she slipped silently through the stages of grief, and had seemed to stick on depression. For a day in the second month, she had a glimmer of hope. That glimmer had been snuffed out quickly. Ever since that day, she would travel back and forth between her old home with one of the women she loved, and her current home..where the other woman she loved had taught her what it meant to be strong. How connections to others strengthened you. Yet, here she stood. Alone, and absorbed by her depression. Today was another one of those days. However, whereas normally the young hybrid struggled to get out of bed until her hunger drove her out, today she managed to get out of bed after she woke up. However, she only managed to make it into the living room, sitting in silence on one of the couches. For the first few weeks after her death, Hikari tried to get her to train again. Eventually however, that had ended in her snapping at the hybrid. Soon after, she abandoned Letu, going off to grieve on her own.
However, even if she had fallen into the depths of depression, her senses were still rather sharp. She had picked up on the signature that had been closing in fast. The warrior instincts that told her she needed to move still were in effect, but they were not strong enough to move the girl from her spot. She very much wanted to die. She couldn't stand the immense loneliness that came with the absence of the two she loved. However, the moment she felt another, unfamiliar connection, she froze, becoming as still as a statue. This was the same connection she had felt when Kaula and Reikiko were alive..and, when the voice was echoed in her head, there would be a moment of silence, one that would seem to stretch on for an eternity before a quiet, sad voice echoed back over the mental line. Only one word was said.
Yes..
However, that was more than enough to betray her feelings through the telepathic line. She was a veritable font of sadness, regrets, and even a strange feeling of hatred. She was a bundle of mixed emotions, filled to the brim with depression. It was obvious that this was the woman that the demon tree was searching for.

The tree landed, and approached the house, entering to find the half-demon within. He bowed, his head nearly scraping the ceiling, and sat on the floor. It was interesting to see this place, if sad. It was empty, and obviously intended for more people than were currently present. It was interesting to see this girl. He had wondered who might be the third part of Kaula and Rei's nascent triangle. A reasonable power level, but nowhere near the other two's. Still, finding a Planet-Killer class fighter that he had never sensed before would have been significantly more worrying. "Greetings. I apologize for it taking so long, but events have been moving with frantic pace. Here." He held out a hand, and focused. Memories nudged at Letu's mind, offering but not insisting. He could simply have spoken the words, but he figured that the girl would appreciate seeing them in person. It was a bit of an uncertain time for all of those who had known the Bio-Android, and the vanishing of many of the Universe's strongest. "There is another matter as well. With Kaula and Rei gone, for however long that may be... We are the last two remaining users of the Crane Style. If we pass... the style will be gone forever. However, only the master is supposed to teach students." He folded his hands in front of his face. "I am not certain what Rei would say, but I confess, I did have a second reason for coming here." "I do not wish to grab power to which I may not have a right, but I also do not wish to leave the legacy of one I respect where it will molder or shatter. I wanted to see if the other option had the will to keep the flame of the Crane Style burning... and right now, I am not certain you do." The tree fell silent, waiting to see what Letu would say.

There were very few things that would catch Letu's attention anymore. But, when this..creature arrived, it was very safe to say that he did catch her attention. It wasn't the sound he made that made her look up from where she was originally looking-though it did have quite a bit to do with it-no, it was the scent that made her look up. There was a definite, uncharacteristically ashy scent filling the room. And when she actually looked at the new arrival, she saw why. The being who had been searching for her was..a sentient..tree. What?
Before she could open her mouth to ask the obvious question however, she felt something poking at her mind. She closed her mouth, and allowed the images in. What she saw sent a dagger through her heart. Reikiko had died, yes. But not only had she died..she had gone to hell. The scene played out in her head like a recording. She saw, felt, and heard everything just as this being had. The flashback and memories were over in an instant, but she immediately understood what was going on. She smiled softly as she slowly rose to her feet. If Walker looked into her eyes, there was something there that hadn't been in them a moment before. Something that she had been wary to have. Hope. She had heard the message that this creature was initially sent here to give her. Of course, he had been correct in his assumption. Up until she had been given those memories, she didn't have the heart to keep the flame of the style she had been taught alive.
However, that had changed. She looked straight up into the giant tree's eyes. Honestly..until a moment ago, I would likely have agreed with you. She said as she tilted her head to the side a bit. But..I get the strange feeling that if I persisted on this path of self-pity..it would disappoint the two who died in the name of keeping everyone safe, would it not? She asked, the message obviously igniting her spirit again. Things were going to be different now. She knew that they had left her behind to protect her. She wanted to honor their sacrifice, and she couldn't do that by being a depressed wreck of emptiness.

It seemed that the mental message had it's intended effect. The girl was notably more alive than she had been previously, seeming to have regained some sort of motivation. Even so...
"I take it you wish to succeed Reikiko, then? The position of Crane Master is vacant, and as it currently stands, we are the only two trained in it's ways." In fairness, Walker's training had been partially self-done, watching Kaula's fighting and mimicking it. The actual special techniques had been learned from Reikiko in Hell.
Leaning forward slightly, he looked into the girl's eyes. "Why do you wish to, if I may ask? Simply to honor Reikiko's legacy? Or do you have some deeper reason?" His own motive was perhaps a bit impure, in that he wanted to pass the techniques on to his family, but he was curious as to what Letu wanted it for.

When she was asked if she wanted to succeed her teacher, Letu nodded without hesitation. She had a feeling that there were other students that could have taken the mantle. It was one of the few ways she justified her moping around to herself. Yet, feeling the immense gap in strength between herself and this..giant..tree. That was something she would need to ask about at some point. But yet, the immense gap made it a bit intimidating to argue why she was a better choice to take up the mantle of the Crane School. Yes, part of her desire to become the master of the crane school was to honor her teacher's memory. Yet..there was more to it than that. She took a second to gather her thoughts, before taking a deep breath in and releasing it.
Yes. I do want to honor Reikiko's memory. However..she is not the only one who I wish to honor. Kaula..Reikiko..both of them did so much for me. They each taught me what they could. I owe it to them both to keep their legacies alive. I want there to be more students than just you and I. We possess a great deal of power, do we not? She asked as she took a step back to be able to look at the creature without having to tilt her head back a great distance as she folded her arms over her chest. If we were to go by sheer power of course, yours blows mine completely out of the water, I can tell just by sensing you. However, there must also be one thing considered. The intimidation factor. You..are a tree. One with a rather intimidating stature. I would think that many people would be intimidated by you, which would end up being a distraction from their training. I could be wrong, but that is how I see things. She said as she took her seat on the couch.
Yet, I do understand that I may not be the best fit for this role. Therefore, I believe it would be best for us to come to a consensus on who should take this role moving forward. She said, ready to debate with this creature if she absolutely had to. She was a stubborn one though. She wanted to succeed her lovers. She needed to honor them by spreading their teachings to as many willing people as possible, give herself a purpose again...

The girl made an interesting point. However, that only applied if one wanted to spread the teachings to anyone. If someone was intimidated by his mere appearance, they did not have the will to bear the Kikoho, in his opinion. Tapping his chin, he held out a finger as he considered her. "I must ask, how many do you intend to teach the techniques of the Crane School? Because if they are so easily cowed... are they truly worthy of the techniques? I understand your wish. You want to honor Kaula and Reikiko, I understand that much." He gestured outwards, indicating the world outside. "There is a difference between replication and dilution. If you take steel, purified and tempered, heated and worked on with care, you may make a sword. If you take that steel, and attempt to simply make as many swords as you can, all you will gain is a heap of scrap."
The speech ceased, and he looked down for a moment. "I miss them as well. Reikiko was the first fighter I ever truly met, and to see that power... it opened my eyes to the world. I chased that torch my entire life. I met Kaula when we were both around your level of strength, almost a year ago. How far we've come in such a short time..." It hit him, then, just how much had changed. He could still recall that day, less than a week after his birth. He had stood atop the lookout, seeing just how vast the world was, and above the countless stars of heaven's field. He had met Scargot, and beheld Reikiko after her absorption of Athren. It was... stunning. The raw strength was like nothing he could have ever dreamed of. It still shocked him that he had managed to make it this far without stealing the powers of others. The world had grown so much more complex since then. Scargot had made it seem so black and white. He had a feeling his innocence had been tarnished to a dull grey, now. It was a bittersweet realization. He had dreamed of one day of succeeding the old Namekian, of bearing the robes and looking out over the planet he protected. Bing had been selected, however, and the tree had to agree the human was a good choice. Except for his choice to fight Zuccetta alone. The tree's eyes closed, then reopened. "All I can say is that the Kikoho requires conviction. It is not a simple powerful technique, and while the simple martial arts of the style, or the Dodonpa and Solar Flare are safe enough, I cannot agree with that technique being given to those who do not have the will and wisdom to wield that burden." Someone like Plato, Core, or Arias with the Kikoho was terrifying to contemplate. Arias would likely gladly give her own life to murder another, while Core would probably show it off. " Come with me, if you do not mind?" His hand extended, and a pair of portals opened, one beneath his own feet, and one on the couch below Letu. Through it sat the Cathedral. On the other side of the rifts was the training grounds he had left untouched until now. The Chamber within the main building was too intensive for this. The ground was soft and grassy, blowing gently in the wind as the stalks played over the tree's toes. Plants grew around the edges, weaving around the old stone columns marked with ancient inscriptions. The breeze left a quiet susurration as the only background noise, and ran through the hair-like pine-needles on his head and tail. Walker floated over the ground, his claws just over it, and tail moving slowly. If Letu came through, he would bow once more. His energies fluctuated, and then dropped like a stone, falling to around 40,000 units. Indeed, it felt as though he had matched Letu's own strength. "As you say, my power may dwarf yours. However, I wish only to see your skill, not shame you with the current gulf. I do not doubt you will gain your own strength in time." His feet spread apart, and one hand pulled back down to his waist, fingers spreading into a clawlike shape. The other rose up, before his face, and seemed to grasp at the air. The Crane style's fighting pose was quite easy to recognize. "I would ask only one favor. Do not use the Kikoho. It is not a technique for spars, but for when one's very life is placed on the line." This was not merely a spar, so much should be clear. It was a clash of ideals, of the future path of the art. Kaula or Rei could return, this was true. For now, however, it was simply a quiet tree, and a quiet girl. Two who had lost many friends, and learned from one who was the strongest of their age. Walker seemed to emit a sense of emotion, like a sad smile, transmitted over the telepathic waves. "I also wish to continue the legacy. That is why, despite my misgivings, I must at least test myself against you." (If Letu does not come through, this is being relayed through the Rift.) CRANE SCHOOL CLAIM HAS BEGUN! As she listened to the tree speak-wow, that was a phrase she wouldn't be getting used to anytime soon-Letu nodded, settling into her seat as her eyes shifted around the room, spotting the thing she was looking for. Her family sword. But, the thing that caught her attention the most was how somber he suddenly sounded. It made her heart ache. This was a feeling she knew all too well. I..understand that kind of admiration... She said softly, her voice and the link betraying a deep sense of sadness.
However, when he mentioned the Kikoho not being something to be taught to just anyone, Letu bristled internally, keeping her annoyance in check to prevent this being from catching onto it. She was not stupid. She understood how deadly the attack was, and how it should not be taught to just anyone. She wanted to speak up about this, yet she was quickly cut off by the creature opening a set of portals to another location. While he fell through one, Letu herself darted off of the couch, scrambling over to where her sword was, tying the long blade onto her back as she normally did. She looked down at herself. She had only recently modified the gi that had been given to her. It fit her rather snugly, even with as petite as she had become. She wasn't fully certain that she was ready for a battle outright, but she had to be. She could hear the tree speak, even through the rifts. She stepped through the rift where she had been sitting as he spoke about the restriction on using the Kikoho.
Of course. It is a very dangerous move, one that harms the user as well. I wouldn't use it unless I absolutely had to. She said as she looked the tree over. She also knew the stance, and mirrored it exactly, the reflection of it making it seem like there was some kind of carnival mirror nearby. However, she did not make the first move yet. She slowly moved to the side, strafing slowly around, looking for any opening she could find. Eventually, she realized that there was no such thing as an opening just yet. However, she thought she had just the move for this situation. She stopped where she stood, being directly aligned with Walker's right side as she channeled ki into her first two fingers, pointing directly at Walker, firing without a single word, the thin, hot beam of the Dodonpa barreling towards him at a rather steady clip!

Letu's first attack was a classic of the Crane School. The Dodonpa ray fired towards him, streaking through the air, and Walker's eyes narrowed in response. "Well formed." His back hand shot forward as he zipped across the clearing, an orb of Ki forming in his hand as he shot towards her. Thrusting the hand forward, it caught the Dodonpa Ray, which was swallowed up in the larger orb of energy. "Canopy Wave...."
"BREAKER!"
With the yell, the attack exploded outwards, a wide, saucer-shaped blast that was quite expansive. Hopping backwards even as the burst dissipated, Walker's leg snapped upwards, aiming for the girl's side. At the same time, his other hand came down in a vicious elbow. It was a brutal opening to the combat, but he had healing ungents if need be, and it would be an insult to hold back in such a battle. "I see the meaning in your opening play. I do apologize if I do not respond in kind, but this would be a mockery if we held only to the core techniques."
His kick was followed by a repeat, but this one morphed into a knee. "Students must also learn to take the art as a building block, and grow their own techniques from it's fertile soil. I am curious what you have come up with." What she had drawn from the Crane's techniques would speak heavily to whether or not she could teach others inventively. The tree had been a teacher to several already, aiding Kizuki and Celmaru in awakening their Super Saiyans, helping Samba unlock his potential, and teaching those who arrived on the Lookout. How would Letu fair?

The moment that she saw her attack eaten by a stronger one, Letu's hand immediately snapped up to the hilt of her sword, drawing it and swinging forward just in time, the blade itself catching the brunt of the energy, but the force behind it still caught her off guard, along with the speed at which the tree was moving, taking the hit to the side with a grunt as she planted her feet down firmly on the ground, catching the other kick with her blade, swinging it to her side to meet the kick. However, what would end up surprising even her was that she was able to hold her own.
She was certain that this wasn't going to end well for her. However, while he was at this range, she had at least one idea. She pulled her arm back, swinging again at him, sending a series of slashes his way as she thrusted her other arm back behind her, a small ball of pitch black ki that was outlined in silver forming before rapidly expanding, the ball suddenly expanding to be half the size of her body as she pivoted on one foot, sending the massive ball careening towards walker before launching it, giving it an extra burst of speed as she suddenly took the sky, feeling the drain that she had just given herself starting to take effect. She would have to be very careful now. It was going to be a bit before she could pull a move like that again, and she didn't even know if this one was going to work. If it did, it was going to explode on contact. If it didn't, then it was wasted, and she had no idea what an explosion would do to an area like this.
However..when it came to what he had said before she tried to hit him, things were..a bit complicated. Then I guess you'll be dissapointed! I didn't exactly have time to play around with what I was taught before everything I cared about came crashing down! She yelled as she hovered above..what now she saw to be an expansive castle town, floating in the sky..this was by far the strangest thing she'd ever seen. However, she quickly took up a more defensive stance, gripping her blade in both hands as she scanned the ground with her eyes, waiting for something to happen. She wasn't sure what was going to go on, but she knew that it would likely be bad. This wasn't going to be an easy battle, especially for someone who was still as much of a novice as she was.

The response to his comment was, rather predictably, prefaced with a Ki blast. The darkly hued orb hurled itself towards him. His body blurred, and he skipped to one side, letting it pass by harmlessly. The orb collided with the ground, detonating, but rather surprisingly, there was no obvious damage. Instead, the landscape glinted a dark purple for a moment where the explosion had occurred, and the plants shivered in the sudden gust. The tree silently congratulated himself for the forethought to ward the training ground. It was protected by a spell that was cast at his full power, so such a relatively low attack was little issue.
Snorting slightly, Walker waved one hand. "Do you think I don't understand such a thing? I was born into this world with no family, nobody but myself. Kaula, Reikiko, Bing... they were the few people I had in this world, and all of them vanished in no time at all." He was tempted to point out that he hadn't let himself crumble in grief, but that was needlessly cruel. He had not been in love with any of them, after all, let alone two of them. Bringing his hands up, the tree's mind drifted back to another old student. Chili Pepper, the canine.
Flying upwards, his fist came sweeping toward Letu in a knife-hand strike. "Are you truly prepared for this? I understand your motives, but I have a goal I wish to accomplish, students I wish to aid. I cannot sense your determination in pursuing this." It didn't seem as though Letu was fighting to her fullest extent. Not yet, anyway. He was not about to simply dash her to the cobbles, but he had to know if she had the drive to see this through, to claim the title of Crane Master.

The moment that she saw the giant tree flying up towards her, Letu shot downwards, meeting his hand strike with full force, her blade locking against the wood of his hand, not quite cutting, but also not quite being useless. Still, this wasn't what irritated her. She was able to feel the difference before. He had suppressed himself to come down to her level. No, what annoyed her was the tone he took with her when he talked about his own loss. What wasn't said still came through loud and clear, at least she thought so. She felt looked down upon for giving in to her own weakness. This, atop the fact that he questioned if she wanted this-to follow in the footsteps of both of her lovers-it infuriated her, more than she knew possible. She started to grind her teeth as a flame she had yet to feel suddenly lit in her heart. Not only did she want to fight, she wanted to win. For a moment, the two appeared to be even in terms of how much physical power they were putting out. Then, the young hybrid said something surprising. ..Fine. If you want determination..then you'll get determination. She said as her focus momentarily turned inward, prodding at something she had only very recently learned how to call upon at will. She called it her Demonic Potential.
As her power level suddenly spiked, Letu pushed down harder on the blade, her eyes ablaze with a new desire. The desire to push herself to her limits. For her, this wasn't just about following in her lovers footsteps, rather, it was to give herself a purpose again. Still, after a few moments, if no progress was made, Letu broke the lock of blade and wooden arm, flying backwards at a surprisingly fast pace as she finally fell fully silent. No matter what was said now, her focus was on the battle. She wasn't going to screw this up. It was time for her to step up, that much was certain.

The moment her power flared, it was clear that she had been pushed hard enough to go full force, just as he intended. Hybrids typically could call upon a fair amount of their base power, in his experience. Now, no words needed to be spoken. It would be clear in the end, one way or another. Slamming his fists together, Walker pulled them back and flared his own power up, loosening the chains of his Ki Suppression

With a sudden kick off the air, he sped forward, headed for Letu and clearly done with his preaching. His hands, held flat, lashed out at the girl, a flurry of stabbing blows that sought the holes in her guard. Not one to be predictable, however, he also interposed a few knee-jabs, and moments where his hooks transformed suddenly into a hammer-like elbow strike.
He did not hesitate to use all of his limbs, dancing around her rapidly and striking. His tail smacked forward, attempting to throw her off balance, and keep the girl on the defensive. It was an intense series of attacks, and how she dealt with such an onslaught would determine much about how this battle would go.

Even with only using a fraction of his power, Walker was fast, fast enough that Letu herself was having trouble keeping up. For every two hits she was able to deflect with her sword, one hit came through, but more often than not, they were glancing blows. She dipped and weaved, ducked and danced. She didn't want to get hit, and her instincts were taking over at this point. It was crazy. She felt so much stronger, and with that, she was much faster. At the same time, so was Walker. His strength was natural though, and if anyone were to stumble across this battle, it would have been obvious. Some of Letu's dodging seemed clumsy, the force she was putting out being rough and uncontrolled. It was obvious that she didn't operate at such a high power normally. Still, her eyes burned with her resolve. She wasn't going to just roll over and let herself be walked all over.
For the most part, she kept her defense rather solid, being thrown off once or twice by the elbow strikes. However, it was when she caught walker's tail rocketing forward that Letu did something rather gutsy. She stopped using her ability to fly. She dropped like a rock when she cut out the ability, waiting a few seconds in free fall, allowing herself to rotate a bit to the side before she suddenly started flying again, rocketing forward before coming up and circling around, slashing twice at Walker's back, one of her attacks aiming for his tail. If it was injured badly enough, he'd lose the extra limb. She kept going at full tilt, zipping around, slashing and stabbing at Walker, aiming at the holes in his defenses, trying her best to keep him on the defensive now. She needed time to regain her energy, time to build up for her strongest attack. For now, she could keep going with the close quarters combat. However, she also tried her best to keep things from being too simple. For every simple slash she made, there were slashes that fainted into a sudden stab at an unguarded area. For every stab, there was an attempt to smack Walker's head with the ornate pommel of the blade. She kept an eye out for his tail. That extra limb gave him a distinct advantage. If her horns were larger, she might have been able to get some use out of them. However, with as small as they were, she didn't see that happening.
However, the longer she spent in this form, the more used to her power she became. Within mere moments her attacks went from rather slow, but strong, to fast and hard hitting. She seemed to be a quick study. Things could get rather interesting from here if she kept her eyes open.

The pace was quickening, and Walker could feel a thin flare of excitement as the pair's limbs traded blows. The girl was on the defensive, as he had expected, but she was doing a solid job of keeping pace. Not a perfect one, to be certain, but acceptable. The level was a much lower one than he was used to, and he felt a bit sluggish. The temptation to unshackle, to fight at his full potential... it was significant, but he had to restrain himself. That wasn't the point of this. If he was basing this entirely on power or skill, it was no longer even a question. The tree had been involved in far more battles, far more practice, and was flat-out stronger than Letu by a terrifying margin. The point was to determine if she had the will necessary to hold onto the post in the face of Walker's own desire.
It seemed that, at the least, she was growing out of her previous hesitation. Just as his tail went flying towards her, she did something that genuinely surprised him. She cut out her flight. It was a tactic that he himself had used, though there was no possible way she could have known that. Whipping about, he attempted to refocus on her, expecting some sort of counter to his opening. The young half-demon did not disappoint Walker in the slightest. With a sudden vertical rush, her blade went swinging towards his tail, and with a sudden surge of pain, the tree's fifth limb was tumbling to earth, a stump leaking sap now perched at the base of his back. She did not let up, however, surging about him like a hornet.
A stab to the side, a slash that suddenly doubled back into another blow... she was using his own trick against him, it seemed. "Hah.. well played, my friend. This is what I was looking for, what I hoped you possessed. I shall respond in kind!" Suddenly, his arm twisted, and his body swerved suddenly to one side, twisting far further than any human could possibly bend. Escaping Letu's cage, he flexed, and the wooden body seemed to glimmer. A tracery of purple embers outlined an area around his stump, and a second later, the limb shot back into place. The stabs and holes sealed up as well, and the tree hurtled back at Letu, his blows now coming without regard for how joints or muscles should function.
It seemed Letu was adjusting to the higher power level, and the previous edge was quickly fading into the realm of wistful fantasy. Still, in a way, he was proud. He had managed to push her this far, to get her to open up and fight to her full potential. It had been the same for Celmaru, albeit with different methods. He had played a part, at least, in encouraging Kizuki's own Super Saiyan ascension, and he had managed to unlock Samba's power as well. It was for that reason he wished to take the mantle of Crane Master, after all. So that he might continue to teach them, and others.
