Gravity 2/2
--
This time, when the simulation began, she faced it alone. Nana was busy off doing something or other, they’d train later or she’d catch herself up on the Gravity stuff. Fiddling with the dials and controls, the five (and a half) year old set it to random once again. Kay-El liked that setting, she didn’t have any time to prepare and it forced her to think on her feet, not one of the child’s strongest suits. Yes, Kay-El Coliflo was adaptable, but still the girl struggled with that sometimes.
And this time proved no exception to the rule.
When the gravity turned on she sank to her knees, struggling against it. Why was it, every time, it got her this way? Well, the first few hadn’t been so bad but her building up some kind of resistance was the purpose, right? The whole point was to get stronger, kick ass, and be able to move freely through higher gravity. And she was working on it, even if she did feel impatient and eager to get it done with and get to those higher levels everyone always went on about. A lofty goal? Sure, why not. And if any thought she couldn't do it, she’d make them stick that where the sun didn’t shine.
Gosh, she really had been hanging around Pin too much, picking up on some of his personality the way people do with those they’re close to and spend a lot of time with.
As the simulation began a world fabricated itself around her and she blinked, somewhat in awe. Trees as tall as some of the buildings of Earth’s cities surrounded her as she stared up to the covered canopy. A sense of wonder filled the girl at all the universe offered, of everything left unexplored, and she wanted nothing more than to go out and chase it. Small, moving lights danced through the dense foliage and she flew up to get a closer look, watching as they danced. Tiny little people floating in the air, lighting up the area like bio-luminescent objects adrift in the woods. They noticed her, too, swarming closer and tugging at her hair and clothes not like they meant harm, more like they were...curious.
And then the world gave one large, halting shudder that she felt even in the air. It was like the whole world took a breath and let it out in a rush, one big lurch, and then the large creatures showed up and the little, shiny people scattered. The things towered high enough their heads reached halfway up the trees, no small feat, and Kay-El flew back a few paces to crane her neck up to get a better look at them. Ugly brutes, mottled blue skin and large squashed noses. Everything about them from the spikes protruding from their heads to their small, beady eyes made her want to run as far away as possible and never return.
Why were they here? Picking on these little guys seemed so unfair, and she narrowed her eyes. Focusing inward she let her power loose, let it surround herself in a show of force and bravery that she didn’t quite feel. But she’d be damned if she let these pipsqueaks run amok and do whatever they pleased. And as if by some crazy magic, she appeared to them as if her power grew exponentially, going up by half and they stopped to think twice about this battle.
It wasn’t until long after they turned tail and ran that she relaxed, shoulders slumped and bathed in an amount of sweat she didn’t know she could produce.
