An ancient cave, hellish in its own right. The entrance was large and intimidating, stalactites hung from the ceiling and stalagmites rose up to Caesar's own body height, simulating an enormous mouth, ready to swallow the Demon whole. The hot sun beat down on this man, and he knew that time was short, for night time was coming. In this area, the shroud of night overtook the land fast and hard, plunging the land into extreme cold. The Demon knew that he had to find shelter soon, and this was as good a place as any. Even if he were to fly away, where would he go? He had no place of residence as of yet. The only city he's been to thus far is more than likely on the lookout for him due to his last job, making him effectively a fugitive. Walking into the cave, Caesar immediately began to feel a little anxious, slightly on edge.
Fear was never something this Demon was used to, so when he felt a slight tinge of paranoia upon entering this cave, Caesar knew something was wrong. This is no ordinary cave, I can sense it... Even though everything beyond the entrance was dark from the outside, the rest of the area was easier to see, now that he was inside. Looking around, Caesar could see a wooden door in front of him. The rest of this portion of the cave was dry and dark stone, nothing interesting about it. However, approaching this door, he could tell that magical beings lay beyond. Something obviously demonic in nature, but of what he could not ascertain. Do demons live within this cave? His curiosity sufficiently piqued (and fatigue forgotten), the Demon opened the wooden door, which creaked loudly as it grated to the side, allowing the curious visitor entrance. The pathway splayed at his feet gradually slopes downward, leading further underground.
That wasn't what caught Caesar's eye, though. All along the walls are lit torches. These torches line the walls of this sloping hallway, allowing the demon sight. Why would these be lit? This cave must be inhabited... but by what? With this newfound sight, Caesar was able to see that the hallway before him, which curved rather abruptly to the right at the end. As he began to walk further and deeper into this cave, he noticed a distinct change in temperature. Not colder, as he expected, but warmer. The Demon welcomed it, as it was much closer to what he was accustomed to in Hell. At the end of the cave, however, he saw something he was not expecting in the realm of the living: the sight of the living dead!
Shambling around the corner of the path came a skeleton wielding a worn and visibly aged scimitar. Adorned plainly, this walking corpse was only wearing rags, obviously the remnants of clothes from long ago. It seemed to immediately recognize Caesar as a threat, as he suddenly raised his weapon and charged at the Demon. Unprepared, Caesar had no choice but to raise his arms in defense, a decidedly bad move. The scimitar sliced into his arm, and exquisite pain coursed through his body. In retaliation, Caesar raised one leg and kicked his assailant as hard as he could in the chest, the center of mass. The skeleton, visibly old, couldn't take that much physical abuse. Exploding in a shower of bones and rags, the skeleton was dealt with, but the real problem wasn't Caesar's now destroyed foe, it was the bleeding wound he sustained in the short fight. Picking up some of the dirty rags on the floor and using his enemy's old scimitar, Caesar cut the cloth and wrapped it around his arm, effectively stopping the bleeding. I might as well keep this scimitar, at least until I get out of this cave.
Leaning against a wall for a bit to rest, Caesar processed everything he knew thus far. This was obviously the work of some demon. Bringing back mortals to the land of the living instead of allowing them rest... This power can be harvested, but how? The last demon to attempt such a thing went insane with power. The madness claimed him early on, and even worse, the uprising happened within hell itself! Such a thing is shameful, but surely he did something wrong to allow his mind to be corrupted. Caesar could only reason that the same thing happened to whomever is at the end of this cave. The Demon of Ambition wasn't sure what he would experience at this cave's end, but he had to find out.
Deciding to continue, Caesar turned right at the end of the hallway and was met with another door, this one made of steel, but still unlocked. Opening the door, Caesar was met with a large chamber. Torches still lined the walls, illuminating the chamber in its entirety. In the middle of the room was an altar, not unlike the one he used to escape Hell and enter the realm of mortals. Walking towards the altar placed on a smooth wood platform, Caesar gazed into the crystal on top of the artifact, and saw his home on the other side. The demon realm! This must be where the rituals are happening! However, instead of the usual red glow emanating from the focus, a sickly green light. This thing... is unnatural. This section of the cave was noticeably colder than the others, something Caesar picked up on immediately. This green light is an obvious sign of magical tampering of some kind. He could only assume that this different gem was used in conjunction with whatever perverse rituals were going on to summon the undead.
This had to be destroyed, Caesar knew. He didn't need such tricks to gain dominion, he would win it through his own deals and strength, not that of the departed. Pointing an index finger at the gem, the demon shot a beam of bronze energy at it, piercing straight through the gem, and making the eerie green light subside. The gem quickly drained of color, becoming a clear crystal again. Caesar aimed at the center of the crystal, and punched it hard, shattering the crystal into many fragments. Whomever is conducting these rituals would know for sure by now that something is wrong, so Caesar knew his time was short.
There was a set of large double doors on the other side of this room, however, and against the wall to its side was an ornate chest, adorned with various gems of different sizes. Walking over to the chest, he said aloud, "ah, a reward for my troubles, it would seem." Crouching to open the chest, he was surprised to see many gems inside, not unlike the focus crystal that was previously at the altar. He was sure that he could sell these when he escaped for a profit. Placing these into his robes, he was greeted at the bottom of the chest with what looked to be an ornate walking stick, but Caesar knew that it was in fact a magical staff. Looking at it up and down, he decided to leave the old scimitar on the ground, and instead use this staff. He wasn't sure how effective it would be in combat, but if a demon was hiding it in his domain, Caesar was sure that it would be of some use.
Opening up the double doors with his newfound wealth and item, Caesar was met with darkness.
