The currency switched hands. "
There you go, sir, that's your payment for... services rendered. Now, everything is to be done as I instructed. Your reward is in exchange for a job well done, do you understand? Do you have any idea how long it took me to find someone to do this job?" The man's breath was rancid, smelling of onions and a stench that the Demon could not place. Some kind of meat, perhaps? Caesar wasn't well versed in the eating habits of this realm yet, but the act of eating the flesh of other animals entertained him to some degree.
Regardless, he payed a marginal amount of attention to the rest if the conversation this human was explaining. Something about safety, stealth, and security. This petty job would be the first of many for the newly-arrived demon. Before power can be achieved, one requires the proper funds to acquire it... Surely this job will be simple. If escaping from the demon realm was any indication. From what he understood, humans had no control of magic or powers to speak of.
"...no matter what. Got it?" The man stood up, and started to walk out the door. He stopped, hesitating. Obviously he wasn't finished speaking yet. Caesar noticed that this man's otherwise pristine uniform had a few specks of dirt on it. His boots were scuffed, and the sharp and shiny black tint seemed to be fading.
This job is obviously important to this man, no matter what he says.
Finally, the man turned around and said, "And remember, mercenary. You are expendable. If you don't finish my... request by this time tomorrow, you will be replaced."
Caesar stood up as well, and bowed low. Obviously, this wasn't what his contractor was expecting, as he furrowed his brow in confusion. "This man's as good as dead. However, if you wanted this to be done right, you should have given me more funding. As such, this will be a less than perfect job."
The other man obviously didn't know how to take that. "Um, just don't disappoint me. And thank you for your service."
As he was leaving the building, he took one last stop at the receptionist's desk. The woman working it was obviously shaken by his appearance. Caesar grinned, sharp canines exposed as he took a business card off of the desk. As a demon, he was obligated to spread discord, but he was above mindless carnage. No, he had a plan.
He turned down the dark road, and began walking down an alleyway, checking behind him to insure no one was watching him. When he was satisfied, he propelled himself off of the ground, shooting himself into the air. His power of flight was invaluable to him, and he needed to be careful with it, so as to not attract undue attention to himself.
"I suppose this is it. Now or never."
Approaching the perimeter of this building, it was obviously well guarded. Armed enforcement patrolled around the edges of this building, and the Demon could only assume there were more inside. Being so high above the ground, Caesar was easily able to make out the guard's movement patterns, and ascertained the easiest point of entry was behind the building proper, after two guards passed each other. Beyond their meeting, the area was left unguarded for more than 3 minutes. Ample time to get in and get out.
Touching down softly upon the ground, he knew that his time was limited. Crouching down, he pointed a finger at the wall and effortlessly, a thin beam of bronze energy began shooting out of his hand. Tracing the shape of a circle into the wall, the energy followed the motions his finger made, until he stopped tracing and the energy subsided. Caesar grabbed the circular piece he made in the wall and pulled it out, making a hole into the building. Crawling inside, he placed the piece of wall back into place.
Now, I'm inside. Where is my target?
The room was austerely decorated, and the Demon of Ambition didn't see any hostiles in the immediate area. Standing up to his full height, Caesar saw a doorway to his right, with the sign EMPLOYEES ONLY hung above the door on the wall. Assuming this was the logical place to go, Caesar opened up the door, surprisingly unlocked. Did they not expect anyone to get this far? Strange. The doorway opened to reveal a staircase, and walls separating this point of entry from the rest of the room, allowing him to remain hidden as long as he was in the stairway. He began to carefully step down the stairs, when he heard voices below him. Stopping dead in his tracks, he began to listen in.
"You listen here. The package is already on the way to our client. We're safe down here, did you see all of the guards we have posted outside? You fuckin' coward, are you afraid of ghosts?"
"Um.. no sir. I just care about your safety is all." Caesar understood immediately what was going on. Focusing his mind, he began to enter the mind of this second speaker, feeling around his psyche. Ah, yes. There it is. Resentment, anger... But why? Pushing deeper, he began to see why. A suicide, a loved one... Unsolved mysteries. He hates this man. This will be too easy.
A thought is something as intangible as you can get, and when a thought enters someone's mind, they would be hardpressed to determine where exactly it came from. Especially if their minds have never been invaded before. They won't see the telltale clues, the subtle traces of an intruder. Focusing on this person's mind became easier, as if Caesar's clamp around this person's mind began to clinch itself tighter. Forcing a thought into his head was only too easy.
I should kill him. It would be too easy, and I know the guard patrols. They'll never know I was here.
There. The sweet spot of the psyche, where thoughts are created and allowed to take shape and form up in their own words. Grinning, he began to listen to the rest of the conversation.
"Why are you staring off into space, you idiot? Go back to your post. That stairway entrance needs to be protected at all costs, even if your life becomes forfeit." Caesar can hear the thoughts swirling around his target's head. This wasn't an entertainment piece. The demon heard the gun cock, a loud gunshot, and then silence. No final words, no witty one-liners. What he did hear, however, were heavy footsteps leading away from his position, towards what he could only assume was a hallway out of the building. He had to leave, fast. That was a loud gunshot, the guards upstairs won't stay isolated up there for long. Jumping down the staircase, Caesar saw the scene in which he influenced without even seeing the setting. There was a man slumped over a desk, with a pool of blood steadily forming below him. There was a door behind him, obviously swung open in haste, where Caesar can only assume his little helper escaped to.
Walking to the newly made corpse and placing a business card on the dead man's desk, Caesar grinned, thinking of how much chaos this one action will cause. Following the open door led him down a hallway, and eventually it ended with a ladder. Feeling bold, Caesar climbed the ladder and took a deep breath of fresh air, tensions suddenly gone. This lead him out of the facility proper, and he was a fair bit away from where he entered, he can see it in the distance. Looking towards where was, he can see the guards in a hurry, running around the facility, shouting. It was time for him to go.
Levitating of the ground, Caesar shot into the sky, heading back towards the town.
Job well done.
((Alright, all finished! I would like Zeni, please!))
