For those who don't know what that means: Keep-It-Simple-Stupid (something writers continuously tell themselves)
I absolutely LOVE your guys' idea of letting the board navigate its own mega-events instead of relying on staff dictation. Of course, if that was my only thought it wouldn't be much of a suggestion thread. I mainly wanted to bring this up because of the huge wait times I've noticed in the main thread causing people to break off and create their own mini-threads, and this is where chaos insues... once they are done with their mini-thread they merge back into the main thread, but whose turn is it? is it the same as it was in the beginning or has it changed to when they have their new arrival? Nothing is set in stone and this causes problems.
First, I don't think you should give up on the idea of player-made sagas. The current idea of the saiyan army coming down and annihilating earth is pretty entertaining when you have several players on both sides of the battle. It's even more entertaining when there is a real possibility of it happening! I really want everyone to know that, especially that I have no intention to hinder or alter this. As some people have mentioned, all of my ideas generally have to do with completely altering structures that have already supported the board for awhile. The idea I currently have, while still dealing with structure, is built towards simply making a foundation for mega events to occur on.
Right now, everything is mass pandemonium. I'd like to give a few ideas, both standard and non, to try and make these sorts of events more fun for those who play it.
My first suggestion: seperate the event into two groups, those with high PL that are participating and those with low PL that are participating. This will keep lowbies from being plucked off and letting them have their fun undisturbed by people who can make their PL over 6 million. You can also give them something else to do rather than running for their lives while trying to somehow pull off a hit that actually deals damage. At the same time, it will keep people from interrupting the main portion of the battle: less people, less chaos, less wait. Who participates in which portion of the saga would be decided by either a staff member, some basic ruling, or the player that thought up of starting the saga.
Second suggestion: lets standardize break offs. An example of this would be sectioning off the city that the current battle is taking place in into seperate "battlezones" all marked as part of whichever portion of the saga it is in. If someone retreats to a different battlezone or a battle finishes in that area and the remaining fighters want to go to a different battle, they could easily transition between them without causing chaos: when you enter is when you get back in line, no questions asked. The big reason I want to do this is simply because breaking off, on a board this populated, is rather important to keep the saga entertaining. It also cuts down on staff work, believe it or not, because whenever a battle is over you can start grading right away instead of having to wait till the very god damn end and having to read a novel worth of writing to determine PL/Zenny gains.
Third Suggestion: ... remember kids, placing a stun gun to your brain is a bad idea x.x; yeah I took a shower after finishing the second idea cuz football was about to start... now I can't remember any of my other suggestions *cries* but hopefully you get the idea... add structure to make things more fun and easier for everyone ^-^
