[Thread PL: 21,667] Wandering deep into the treacherous dunes of the Diablo Desert, Polar pulled up the hood of his cloak over his head and horns to shield himself from the incoming wind that sprayed dust into his eyes. He could feel his cape billowing as the breeze grew stronger. It grew to a point that the Arcosian had to hold up his right forearm just to shield himself.
He didn't know where he was going, nor why. He was just...here. It was just where the trail led him, since he escaped the fateful battle at South Capitol. The bruises were still ever-present, but that didn't bother him. He hated being so unsure. He hated being on the run. He hated the ambiguity of it all.
But with the Capitol utterly decimated, the mythical BBA even more out of his grasp in the midst of the chaos, and the Halfling that had introduced him to the Blue Banners more than likely quite dead, what choice did he have? He was right back in square one, since he first arrived on the planet. The Arcosian truly felt alone.

[Thread Power Level: 286.533] There, in the arid desert that ruled a large portion of Earth, the young saiyan warrior rested. Natto was sitting on top of a whitish stone wall structure, there were plenty of those on that desert, while he stared at nowhere in particular. The sight of the desert reminded him of the central wasteland of Planet Vegeta, and he missed it a lot, knowing that there would be no way for him to go back to his crimson skied double sun home. He sighed with that thought, as his eyes reached the blue skies of Earth. The color was beautiful. And the planet dwarfed Vegeta due to its beauty and vibrating life, but, still, Natto learned to love Vegeta and that wouldn’t change just because the Blue Marble seemed like a better place overall.
The war had destroyed quite a lot of the major cities of the planet, but cities are destroyed and rebuilt all the time. It was the lives that were lost that were irreplaceable, but, even that seemed cheaper now, since Natto last talk with Jarvis, Aspa’s killer; the blue-haired hybrid mentioned that he escaped hell itself and clawed his way back to life. Of course he could be lying, but somehow it didn’t seem like he was doing that when he told Natto the story. ”But… If people can come back from the dead… Why don’t people return all the time?” he thought, since that part didn’t make any sense. Maybe it was just extremely difficult to return from the afterlife, or maybe it was just a story in order to fill the young saiyan’s heart with false hope, either way, there was no point in thinking about that. Aspa was gone and if he somehow managed to crawl out of death, that would be due to his own merits. Still, his death sadden Natto a lot and he couldn’t help but to feel guilty about it.
Natto’s thoughts were cut short by the beep on his scouter. He was too distracted to properly feel energy signatures, and that motivated him to put his scouter on scanning mode in order to avoid being caught by surprise; he was still a hostile in a foreign planet full of absurdly strong people, he couldn’t let his guard down. ”That power level… Is not that big.” he thought as he checked the scouter for a scan of only 21.667. The young saiyan moved his head towards the direction of that power level and right below him, a few feet away, there was a hooded person walking on the sand. That made Natto quite curious and, as soon as he sensed his power, he couldn’t help it but to think it was somehow familiar. ”Who’s that person? Was he on the South Capitol battle?” he wondered.
Natto hovered off the stone wall he was sitting in and slowly headed towards the cloaked person below. He would move slow enough to show that he wasn’t a threat, but he wasn’t hiding his enormous power level of almost three hundred thousand; he didn’t want to invite him to attack as he was in no mood for battle right now. As the Arcosian dragged himself through the sandstorm, he heard his scouter beep to life. He halted and clicked a button on it which allowed it to process the information coming through.
Two hundred and eighty thousand?!
With the battle of South Capitol still fresh in his mind, he recognized it almost instantly. It was the Super Saiyan!
Why was he still here? Why didn't the Earthlings finish him off? Then he remembered. At the battle, there was some sort of stalemate between the Saiyans. Did they let him go?
His first instinct was to run, but that idea was thrown out the window when he saw the Saiyan had detected his apprentice and begun his approach.
Running wasn't an option, so he considered fighting. Even resorting to his transformation. But strangely enough, the Saiyan didn't attack. He just stood there in levitation.
What's his game?
For a moment, there was silence. Polar was unsure what to say or do. He just stood there, partially frozen by fear. The other part of him wanted to see what the Saiyan would do. He obviously didn't intend to kill. At least not yet.
"What, if I may ask, brings a Saiyan out here?" asked Polar carefully. He didn't looked up at the vicious ape. The sandstorm was still strong. Maybe that was the reason he hadn't struck yet. Maybe he didn't see the Arcosian for what he really was between the storm and cloak cloaking his face.

As he approached, he recognized that person easily: he was the arcosian who fought against the rogue Great Ape from the Blue Banner Army and Riku! The blue colored one who spared his friend even though he had plenty of opportunities to kill the tailless saiyan. The arcosian didn’t react in an aggressive way and that was a smart move, since he had no chance against Natto even if he was to tap into his true form. The young saiyan didn’t want to fight nor to kill the arcosian, despite still hating that race. Truth be told, Natto’s beliefs were shaken to say the least and right now he wasn’t up for making decisions that he may regret in the future. Therefore, he kept on hovering in the air, a few feet above the sands of the desert as while staring at the cloaked changeling.
Polar had a careful tone and that was understandable. If Natto had to bet, should his power be lower, he would be facing a battle or at least some sort of passive-aggressive conversation now, but the arcosian was cautious, or even scared! The young saiyan warrior folded his arms and remained silent for a while longer until he finally spoke.
– I could ask you the same question. But then I remember that you have no home left to return, arcosian… And I can sympathize with that feeling, for I also have no home to return to. – he said in a blunly. – You were on the war, fighting against one of my comrades, a black armored saiyan warrior with no tail. Riku is his name. I have a question to ask. – Natto paused for a short while. – Tell me… Why did you spare him? I can’t understand how a vile creature like an arcosian would let his ancient enemy escape from its grasp. – his tone was rather harsh, but his words were honest; Natto truly didn’t understand why Polar did what he did, and that bugged him a lot. "I could ask the same, Saiyan, but it would get us nowhere."
The battle of South Capital was still fresh on his mind, and he remembered the Saiyan that the captain called Riku vividly. He had spared him, but the Saiyan did make a good point. Why did he do it?
The Saiyan had a bitter tone about him. He obviously hated the Arcosian, which was understandable, given they were mortal enemies. But some words struck a chord emotionally for Polar. The Arcosian balled his hand into a fist. How dare he? How dare the Saiyan call him vile after all the turmoil he'd caused?
The brief sensation of anger, however, was extinguished by a certain sense of rationality. And this rationality came into the form of some wisdom Polar recalled from Kanassa.
It had been many moons, but still, he remembered. It was back when Polar and Taiga had first met. The Arcosian commander had not only been helping him train for the imminent Saiyan invasion, but gave him a little food for thought that Polar had initially scoffed at. But now it started to make sense.
Had Taiga been right? Had the Arcosians themselves been responsible for the Saiyan's hatred for them?
When Natto called him a monster, it was with such a hatred that couldn't be faked. Yet he didn't attack. He showed true compassion for the man that Polar refused to kill. And he, like Riku, showed true anger and remorse when they realized their leader walked them into an ambush.
The Saiyans weren't monsters. They had honor. They had emotions. They were...individuals, with a soul. Like Polar.
Has everything I've known about the Saiyans just been one big lie?
Polar inhaled deeply, and stood up tall; surprisingly taller than the average Arcosian in his suppressed form. He slowly and carefully approached the Saiyan captain, showing a cold and firm, but not necessarily hostile expression.
"Saiyan, I can't say I know why I spared your comrade, but I did. Perhaps I simply wish to see the cycle broken..."
He pulled off his hood, revealing his pronged, ice-blue head.
As hard as it was to admit, Polar had been wrong. He'd been wrong for all these years. The Saiyans weren't evil, no more than all Arcosians were evil for Chilleon's errors.
"My name is Polar. I am the son of Lord Chilleon, the student of Master Hakuri, and the soldier in Lord Taiga's army."
Or it's remnants.
Polar just stood there, and allowed the Saiyan to react. Whatever Natto did, Polar was sick of running; sick of believing lies; sick of being a slave to chance. It was time he chose his own destiny.

Natto slowly landed on the sandy ground of the Diablo Desert, a few feet from Polar. Natto was 5’9” tall and had a fairly muscular build. His looks, however, as angered as it was, were far from ruthless. Natto had some kindness inside his eyes that he couldn’t hide very well, and he was too sick of all that chaos, all those battles and especially tired of all that blood. The arcosian said that maybe he wanted to break the cycle and that led Natto to hmph as he gazed away from him, staring at one of the white rocky stone walls of the desert. ”Break the cycle… I see… Everyone is tired of all this nonsense… All this hatred… Still, why can’t I let go of my rage? Why can’t I stop hating the tuffles, the arcosians? I barely even met them… Still… What my father said… The saiyans… Dad… You were mistaken, right? Or perhaps… No!” Natto quickly shook his head for a minute, with a vein popping out of his right temple, showing that he was indeed irritated.
He stared back at Polar when the blue-colored arcosian started properly introduce himself. He still considered himself a soldier, and that made Natto chuckle a little bit. ”Taiga? I believe that’s the one who commanded the defenses of Kanassa… I don’t know that changeling, but he was killed if I’m not mistaken.” Natto analyzed the information he was given. When Polar finished, he made a brief nod.
– I’m Natto… I was Commander-in-Chief of the Saiyan Solar Empire Stationary Defense Army, responsible for protecting the planet during the Saiyan-Arcosian War and the siege of Kanassa. I was a member of the super elite of the Saiyans and Captain of my own squad… But that’s in the past, just like your titles. We are in a similar situation, arcosian. – he paused for a moment. – The main difference is: I chose to turn my back on my former empire… You on the other hand had no choice. You were defeated by the saiyans… And now you have nowhere to go. – he stated the obvious. – Our motivations were very different… But I will tell you one thing. For all my life I only questioned the Saiyan Empire twice. The first time was when I was a kid, and the second time was when I saw the atrocities that befell Arcose. – he sighed briefly. – As much as I hate you lizards… That was too much. And I’m only sharing this with you as a way to thank you for sparing my friend. I bear you no ill will… But I can’t let go of my prejudice towards your race, so I will warn you not to get in my way! – his tone was a little harsh, but it was clear that he was trying hard to be as kind as possible in such situation. "Hmph..."
Polar's cape billowed in the wind. Even at such a close distance, the sand distorted his vision. Still, he could see the man who introduced himself as Captain Natto. He was so young, for what the Arcosian recognized as Saiyan aging. He was almost a child, and probably decades Polar's junior chronologically. Still, he saw much of himself in the kid, even if they were supposedly mortal enemies.
"The Saiyans have caused me strife in my lifetime, Captain. But I suppose...I've misjudged your kind by the actions of a bloody monarch. I know well what it feels like to be a puppet."
Polar sighed. He wasn't quite sure what to think anymore, but he felt he prejudice fade. He was tired of hating the Saiyans. He was tired of fighting, and running. Contrast, Natto seemed to have nothing but hate for the Arcosian, and seemed to struggle to keep it contained.
"I doubt I can do much to you, Saiyan. Nor do I desire to. This war is over for me, as it is for you. I leave you in peace."
He turned and prepared to head in the opposite direction of the Saiyan, who didn't seem to welcome his presence. Polar didn't desire to drag out the discussion any further, as he might single-handedly and briefly reignite the Saiyan-Arcosian War at the rate that Natto's temper was rising. Besides, he had quite a lot to think about and reconsider...

– I’m no longer a captain. – Natto cut Polar’s sentence to correct the title he used to refer to young saiyan warrior. He grimaced when the arcosian called him that, since he couldn’t recall anything good that came from him having that title. But what Polar said next caught his attention, making him arch his eyebrows a little bit. ”Is he implying that he doesn’t see us as fiends anymore?” Natto couldn’t help but ask himself that. He also said that he didn’t mean any harm to the saiyan, and couldn’t even do it if he wanted, which was true. Following that he said that the war was over for both of them and Natto sighed. Before he left, the saiyan spoke.
– I wish that one day I can stop seeing you as enemies… But I still can’t do that. – there was some grief in his tone. – Be safe, Polar. – it was obviously hard for him to call the arcosian by his name, but he made an effort and this meant something. – And remember one thing. We are not welcome in this planet… Sleep with one eye open and every now and then look behind your shoulder. Earth is dangerous for anyone beside the earthlings. – he finished his speech with that.
Then, Natto turned around too and flared his ghostly-white ki aura around his body and took the skies at an amazing speed, leaving only a trail of white ki energy behind him. The young saiyan warrior headed towards the southern part of the Planet, with tons of thoughts inside his mind. Word Count: 267 [Leaving Thread. Zeni please]

Polar stopped as Natto went on, correcting him for using the word 'Captain'. Turning his head so he could see the Saiyan out of the corner of his eye, the Arcosian listened to the remorseful Natto telling him that they would be leaving as enemies. Polar held his tongue. It didn't surprise him, though. He wasn't naive enough to believe they would be best friends. It wasn't the way the world work. Hell, if not for Taiga's wisdom, Polar might resent Natto just as much as he him.
Then the former-captain gave him a final word of advice, warning him to be wary of the Earthlings. It wasn't news to Polar, having been in hiding since he arrived. But he nodded nevertheless.
Then he heard the Saiyan bolt off, leaving him in the duststorm. Polar pulled his hood back over his head and left, but not flying. He wouldn't be able to see where he was going. Placing a forearm to shield his eyes, the Arcosian pushed on through the desert in hopes of escaping the desolation.
