A soft moan slowly filled the room as a raven haired woman drifted into the realms of the waking world, the cracking light of the sun seeping into her chambers to hasten the process. She shuffled under the sheets of her bed, trying to hide herself from the suns gaze. "Five more hours..." she groaned softly, trying in vain to will her body back to peaceful slumber, but the body's will proved stronger than her own and she was forced to concede defeat.
As she sat up, her lips chapping away the rigor mortis of unconsciousness, a hand went through her tusseled mane which resembled a large bush. "Grhmm... one day... just one day..." she half muttered to herself as she slowly swung her legs around to the floor, the sheet falling from her form like water off a rock. She padded her way to an entrance by the window, stepping out onto the warming stone of the balcony and leaned on its edge, looking out at the world around her.
The jungle around the stone temple she called her home was coming to life just as she had, the calls and cries of the various wildlife mingling with one another to culminate in a symphony of sound. Brassica smiled softly as she let the melody sift through her ears, a soft breeze ruffling through her unkempt hair. She looked down below towards the arena at the base of her temple, her Ki Sight allowing her to pick out those of her people that were fixing up the last of the tiles that had been damaged in yesterday's events.
"Chul'taka... I wonder if you'll be the one this year?" she purred before turning her gaze to the small city that had taken form around her temple. No doubt by the standards of those out in the greater galaxy, this city was crude, but given that just barely a decade ago the Simians had lived in caves and tree nests, Brassica had to say it was a major advance. It was interesting to consider... the Simians had a basic grasp of technology, fashioning for themselves crude weapons of stone and wood, along with rather primitive siege engines to hurl larger stones... but with her guidance, they had advanced to something far more. Now they used metals in their crafts, and each new day brought something new into the world.
With the tournament she'd begun as a child, the Simian race was growing stronger every year as well. Yesterdays events proved that her methods were indeed working... but she knew in her heart that it wasn't enough. Not yet. They still had a long way to go... But, that's what she was here for. She would guide them for as long as she could, get them stronger, improve them... the last ten years had proven this... another ten, twenty, even thirty years, and who knows? But that was a train of thought for the future. Today, she had a match to fight.
With that thought, she left her balcony and went back to her chambers to sort out her hair. A Goddess should always be presentable in front of her followers. Whoever heard of a Goddess with bed-head anyway? She did briefly wonder how they'd react, chuckling softly at the notion before she continued her ministrations. In the past Brassica had considered trimming down her hair, but it kept her warm during the winter months, and since she didn't have fur like the Simians, the long mane of hair that reached down to her backside would suffice.
A gong sounded from down below, the Goddess sighing as she looked at her hair with a pout. "But I wasn't finished yet..." she scowled before grumbling to herself and leaving her chambers, the door closing behind her as a pair of Simian guards kept in step behind her. From her chambers atop the temple, it was a nearly straight corridor down to the throne room, with a few guarded entrances between here and there. As she stepped into her throne room she was greeted by her subjects bowing before her, a dainty Simian female offering her a bowl of freshly plucked peaches, which she graciously collected one of them and began to eat.
"I presume Chul'taka is ready then Father?" asked the Goddess of the old Simian leaning on his cane. "He is, my Goddess." was the reply, Brassica nodding as she finished the peach, placing the stone on the arm of her throne. "Well then, best not keep the poor male waiting." she smirked, deigning to step through the portal of her throne room and float down to the arena below, where the Simian city had already taken up residence in the stands. A single figure knelt in the arena as she approached, her feet gracefully touching the freshly laid stone.
"Chul'taka," she began to say, the arena falling silent as she spoke, "by right of victory you have earned this honour and chance to face me, Brass'ica, Goddess of the Moon. Should you prove the victor, you will be allowed to lay claim to any prize you see fit that is within my power to grant." she called forth, her voice reaching even the most distant ears. Her tail flicked in the air as she was certain she knew what he would ask for if he won, as did the rest of the gathered populace. "Should you prove the defeated however, you shall not be allowed to lay claim to what you seek, and shall instead have to be satisfied with the knowledge that you are but one of few who have been graced with my presence in combat, and lived." declared Brassica before she flicked her tail, the signal for the challenger to rise.
The male Simian dwarfed her, standing easily at nearly eight feet in height, compared to her meager five foot and eight. She could see in great detail his throbbing muscles, his flesh stretching as if barely able to contain the raw power that lurked within him. And there was visible signs that he was already eager to claim his as of yet unwon prize. "Are you ready Chul'taka?" she asked, taking up her position at one side of the arena. He took up position at the opposite side. "I am ready my Goddess." he called back. The drums began to thrum, starting off slow, like the rhythm of a heart, slowly getting faster and faster. Suddenly the drums stopped and the solid crash of the gong rang out across the arena.
Simian and Saiyan rushed towards one another, Brassica choosing to use her feet instead of flying at him, deciding to test him on an equal footing as it were. As Chul'taka came in with an overhead strike, aiming to land a blow on the shorter female, she leapt up and spun, his fist missing her body, but her foot connecting with his head instead. The Simian was sent sprawling for a moment, clutching his head as he rose up, Brassica standing on the spot where she'd landed. "Come now, is that all you can muster?" she teased, her arms crossed under her bust which improved the view of her physical assets, her face smirking at his own physical response. The male gave a roar before he charged towards her once more, unleashing a flurry of punches towards her.
Brassica had to admit, he was faster than she thought he would be given his size... but his attacks were too easily telegraphed, the males eyes twitching every time he flung a punch towards a location, making it easier to dodge. She bent her body backwards, placing her hands on the floor before bringing her feet upwards, striking him in the unmentionables and sending him through the sky as she brought her legs back down behind her and on the floor, standing up as he crashed back down to earth. She looked over at him as the dust settled. "Maybe I hit him a little too hard?" she wondered before blinking as the male stood up, and she could have sworn... sparks were coming from his fur.
"Guess I've got no choice..." he grunted, looking at Brassica with a grin. "This is something that me and my brother have been working on all year, something we developed in order to face you my Goddess! Behold our efforts!" he roared forth, the air around the Simian sparking and shimmering. This is new. thought Brassica as she waited to see what exactly Chul'taka was doing. She didn't have to wait for long, as a ball of light began to form in Chul'taka's mouth, the sparks around him coalescing into it, before it was fired directly towards her. "That's definitely new." she said before the energy blast connected with her and exploded, shrouding her in an envelope of light and dust. The arena fell silent at this strange new ability that the male had used, all of them waiting with bated breath to see the result.
The light faded, and the dust soon settled... and there she stood, with hardly a scratch on her! The female Saiyan smirked as she looked at Chul'taka. "I'll admit, I am impressed." she called out to the dumbfounded male who simply stood there, staring at her. "You were able to harness the powers within you for a brief moment to create that attack... I am impressed." she said, walking towards him. "However," said the Saiyan before she sent a punch straight into the male's gut, doubling him over, "it's not enough to grant you your prize. Maybe next year." she purred, letting him drop to the floor.
They waited for five minutes, before he finally got back up, his Goddess looming over him as he knelt before her. "I have been defeated my Goddess..." he declared, the crowd bursting into applause at such an impressive bout, the female Saiyan smiling down at Chul'taka before she patted him on the shoulder. "You and your brother, improve your skills, and teach others how to do what you two know how to do... and who knows? Next year you may even win." she commanded him softly, the male nodding at her words. Brassica backed off and began her ascent back to her throne, even as a crowd of females who were impressed by Chul'taka's skills came flocking around him.
He may not have won the tournament's final fight, but he won the goal of any male during mating season. And through him, he would create even stronger Simians in service to their Goddess. And thus her grand plan continued to march ever forward. Now... if she could just figure out two things. First being how to keep her planet out of the ensuing galactic conflict beyond her shores, and second, how to become immortal so that she could truly see her plan for this world to its ultimate end. Not much point in being called Goddess if you die of old age, now was there?
