Autumn had crept upon the fields isolating Jingle Village. The villagers wasted no time reaping the land of all they wrought, spreading their bounty with joy and celebration. The Great Harvest Festival had come at last.
Children ran through the streets, farmers passed along verdant crops, and the music sung the loudest as it plucked the dancers to each of its notes. Looming high above the village, a red moon shone upon the wind stroked land.
Scurrying through the tall crops, thieves in red cloaks scurried around the borders of the village. As they assembled to their respective positions, they waited patiently for their moment.
As the dancers leaped and the bards serenaded, a shadow slithered through the crowd, hidden beneath a red cloak.
The dancers began to pair up, grabbing the nearest person as they spun with the rushing autumn winds. The music burned faster and the dancers spun faster. The red cloaked figure had grabbed ahold of the nearest dancer, a farmer, and imitated the strange earth ritual. It was not long until the farmer had caught a glimpse of his partner's concealed face.
A disturbing chill paralyzed the farmer as he saw the monster beneath the cloak grin, his eyes gleaming. The disturbed farmer could not scream before the cloaked creature spread its wings and shot off into the air, carrying the disturbed farmer. The music stopped and people screamed as they watched the farmer disappear into the night sky. A blood curdling scream echoed and was then silenced.
Moments later, the cloaked creature shot back to the ground, causing the ground to crack beneath him. As the dust settled and as his wings unfurled, the stunned villagers could see that the farmer was cradled within the claws of the creature. The creature was holding a syringe that was plunged into the twitching farmer's neck.
"Hush...now, ...human. Your hour of ascendance is upon you," the creature known as Kouda hissed as he watched the syringe inject it's serum into the human.
A maniacal laugh rumbled from the creature's throat as the human convulsed violently. The farmer's flesh began to melt and morph around his dangling exposed bones. The human let out his last fragment of his former self as a roar towards the red moon. He became something else. A twisted pile of writhing flesh with jagged bones jutting out.
"Fascinating...fascinating..." Kouda admired the test subject as he revealed a datapad in which wrote his observations on the human's reaction.
The villagers stepped back, shocked at what they had seen.
"This gift...this evolution...will be shared with all of you. The procedure is necessary but soon... you will see its truth," the creature spoke in a grave tone.
Hooded beings emerged from the surrounding fields, capturing any fleeing villager.
"Time has betrayed us but I have brought you your salvation."
Kouda stabbed a syringe into a nearby villager as he stared up at the red eclipse looming above the village.
