You see clouds. Well... actually you see nothing. The curtain of gas mass is blocking your sight completely, causing you to be lost in its cottony whiteness. You her noise though and it is loud. Like if something was tearing the foggy scenery apart in great speed. You are following our hero’s point of view. Soon enough you begin to see the landscape below. The settings and color scheme bring forth memories of Earth, due to the similarity between the two worlds. And now changing the referential, you are now a spectator of the Nautilus, rather than a passenger, watching as the spaceship leaves a trail in the air as it carries our hero down to the land below. As it approaches the land, the ship slows down and begins to slowly gravitate towards the ground, as the green pilot corrects the trajectory to allow it land safely.
Inside the vessel we can see Nemo turning off the controls an having the hatch-like glass superior part of the ship opens, allowing the namekian to disconnect the seatbelt and get off his vehicle. He jumps out of the transportation, landing lightly on the soil, causing a small amount of dust and dirt to rise, dispersing slowly as the slug-like alien looks around to inspect the surroundings. Nemo then closes his eyes for a moment as if focusing. We see the scenery slowly fade away, leaving only a namekian with a glowing yellow aura around his body in the middle of a pitch black canvas. It is as if we are peeking directly into the green skinned alien’s mind. Suddenly, he opens his eyes.
– “He’s close” – The namekian mutters to himself.
Across the map the scene repeats itself, with another character opening his eyes at the same time and repeating the very same words, like one of those scenes where the tv screen is split in half to display both events at the same time. If you read the first chapter of this story, the physiognomy of the other individual leads you to conclude it is Jiira, Nemo’s old time best friend and ex-colleague at the Galactic Patrol. If you haven’t read it, then know what you see is the face of man with blueish green skin (or greenish blue... I’m a dude and therefore don’t know many color names. To me it’s red, blue, yellow… Salmon is not a color. It’s food… but I’m digressing). He has a long blonde hair and light blue eyes. His relation to Nemo I just told you, so no need to dwell on that any further.
What just happened is that the two felt each other’s kis being old acquaintances. Who needs radars when you have such a nifty trick? Immediately, Nemo takes flight and heads off to meet Jiira. As for the zumian (Jiira’s race), he was by King Shiro’s castle, protecting the leader like in his old times before he joined the Galactic Patrol. Upon tracing his friend’s signature, the man moves out of the throne room in order to meet Nemo outside.
– “I’ll be back in a moment, your highness” – He states as he walks away.
Soon, we see our favorite namekian revolved around a yellowish aura, as he approaches Jiira’s location, leaving a trail of energy behind him in the iconic bukujutsu-style fashion. He lands finally, causing the aura around him to disappear.
– “Nemo” – Jiira says bluntly.
– “Jiira” – The namekian voices seriously as well. The duo walks towards each other. It seems they awkward silence would still perpetuate between the old friends, but as soon as they come close, they wrap each other in a hug, tapping each other’s back and annihilating any sign of animosity left after Jiira’s expelling of the force.
– “I missed you, friend” – Nemo is the first to break the long silence they shared.
– “Me too. We had a lot to talk about” – Jiira says.
In the moments that followed their reencounter, Jiira explained in details about the situation of his fellow zumians.
– “So, do you still hate me for leaving the Patrol?” – Jiira inquires, now sat down besides his comrade, as they do some catching up.
– “I never hated you for anything. I just didn’t agree with you leaving your duties, that way. I understand why you did it. I just didn’t agree with it. And I still don’t. Although I cannot guarantee myself I wouldn’t have done the same in your place” – Nemo explains.
– “Heh… as stubborn as ever” – The zumian says, turning his face to his comrade with a smile.
– “So… tell me more about this disease” – The namekian interrogates.
– “It is coming from the Great Central Sea. It’s where the chidaian’s main city is located. They are expanding fast and it’s been taking a heavy toll on the environment a while now. They are dumping tons of toxic waste, poisoning the Great Central Sea. Since it’s connected to all other four seas, its currents carry the residues to all corners of Deidoro. It’s what makes the central region the safest place for us zumians to leave, since the currents drains it fast enough. But this is something that’s been happening for years already. Initially, we couldn’t detect anything wrong because the concentration was so low, but it already reached the point where the contamination is finally visible. Even people near the great sea are starting to get sick as well, even though it is still a rare occurrence around these parts” – Jiira explains the situation directly to Nemo now.
– “And even with all proofs, this King Zander still refuses to cease his environmental abuse? Doesn’t he care about his people getting sick as well?” – The namekian inquires, outraged with the chidaian king’s lack of empathy.
– “That’s the problem… Unlike us, the chidaians don’t need water to survive. So it doesn’t affect them in anyway. If they had been dumping it in the land itself, perhaps it would affect them as well, but since the currents take the poison way away from them, they are pretty comfortable with the situation” – Jiira explains.
– “But can’t he see he can end up killing all of you if he doesn’t stop?” – The namekian complains.
– “It’s as I told you. He doesn’t care. None of them do. That’s why I contacted the Patrol. Even if we were to try a less diplomatic approach, our people are way too sick to get involved in a potential war. Not to mention they outnumber us as well. Perhaps with a higher power pressuring him, he will compromise to stop polluting our waters” – Jiira suggests with optimism.
– “Definitely King Lutuch won’t allow these chidaians to commit a genocide. I won’t allow it… I’m going to beat some sense in this King Zander person” – Nemo vows. Jiira smiles at his friend’s determination.
– “I knew I could count on you. Come, let me introduce you to King Shiro” – Jiira invites standing up and extending his hand to Nemo in order to help him get up as well. The two then proceed to the king’s castle.
The King Shiro’s castle was located in the main zumian settlement, Brankia City. If you’re wondering, branchia is the greek word for “gills”. It was built by the ocean (as all zumian cities) on top of a cliff. The relief was excavated to feature artificial tunnels and caves. Many of these caves provide comfortable housing for the triton-like people. The castle and city itself is built on top of the cliff. There is also a bridge that connects to a rocky elevation that was turned into a prison. All malefactors get eventually sent here, no matter in which corner of Deidoro they can be found. Since an image is worth more than a thousand words I will provide a picture in order to try and better illustrate the zumian civilization for you:
When the duo met, Jiira was waiting for Nemo by the stairs in the southeastern portion of the city. As they make their way up the many steps, they make a bit more of chit-chat, with Jiira providing more insight over the zumian peoples situation and eventually going from the serious talk to something more pleasant, such as memories from their good old times and how he wanted to take Nemo to see some of the best sights of Deidoro.
A few moments later, they are finally by the castle’s entrance where they find a pair of guards. Seeing Nemo is accompanied by the king’s right hand, they simply greet the duo and let them come inside. Jiira and Nemo nod in return and enter the palace. Nemo admires the architecture and ornamental work of Jiira’s people as they pass through the main hall. As they arrive at the king’s presence, both warriors kneel down with their heads lowered in a sign of respect to the authority.
– “My king, this is the man I told you about, Nemo. He is here to help us” – The blue skinned warrior introduces his friend.
– “It is an honor to meet you, your majesty” – Nemo greets King Shiro.
– “Nemo. I have heard many good things about you. And judging by your etiquette, I can tell many of them are true. Welcome to my palace. I am King Shiro” – The noble leader welcomes the foreigner. Nemo stands up to look at the man, now that the proper introductions were done. I don’t have a picture for King Shiro, so I’ll try to describe him as clear as possible. He was a tall man, dressed in noble clothes, full of jewelry and naturally, a crown over his head. He is not the usual fat king you would imagine. He seemed to be comparable to a man just past his fifties in human standards. He had a huge stomach, what gives the impression he is fat, but you can see judging his arms that he is a strong man, despite his age and should have some fighting capabilities, although his battle power was nowhere near Nemo’s or Jiira’s. Like many zumians, he wears a long white smooth hair, the only body hair he has. He had a deep voice and light green eyes that overflowed experience and wisdom. If anything, I can show you a picture of his son, Prince Sam (pun on “same”, which means just “shark”), since he resembles his father a lot when younger and will give you an idea of how noble clothes and the cultural jewelry looks like:
The only member of the royal family left now to introduce is Queen Sachi (shachi means orca, the killer whale). Seeing as I described enough characters to feel lazy by now, I’ll simply provide you a picture for her:
With that out of the way, let’s get on with the dialogue:
– “How may I serve you, your highness?” – Nemo asks.
– “I need you to beat some sense into that rock-head Zander. I tried a formal meeting but he refuses to stop polluting the seas, even though he is pretty much aware that it is killing my people. He probably knows we don’t have conditions to fight them and is taking advantage of the situation to get his way” – Shiro says with anger in his voice.
– “I understand. I shall go and make this King Zander stop poisoning your people, using all the means necessary” – The namekian vows.
– “I have faith that you will be successful in your task. I trust Jiira’s judgment. Take the day to rest from your long travel and take the opportunity to meet the city. All of your expenses will be covered. You are my guest” – King Shiro explains.
– “I thank you for your kindness, King Shiro” – The namekian says.
When Nemo arrived at the Deidoro it was still pretty much the few hours of the day, so there would be a lot of sightseeing he could do. For the first time in a long time, Nemo would allow himself not to talk about work and simply accompany his friend to enjoy the trip and meet the interesting zumian civilization. Nemo even allowed himself to try one of the fish-people delicacies, going against his ground rule of sticking only to the water. Remembering, namekians can eat for pleasure; they just don’t need anything other than h2o. And then, by the end of the day, of course they would have to have a spar. For the sake of the good old times.
It is night and the two warriors are facing each other in a small area by the palace’s garden which Jiira used to train. The two warriors are already on their fighting stances, analyzing each other, waiting for the first sign of movement. Naturally, Jiira has put aside his sword for this spar. The first one to move is Nemo; he dashes towards his friend, arms stretched up to try and hit him with a punch. The teal (I think that’s the color) skinned merman easily dodges, grabbing the huge namekian’s arm by his wrist and pulling it down, to try and throw Nemo over his shoulder. He succeeds, but the greenie smirks, managing to flip in the air while still within Jiira’s grasp, reverting the situation and landing on his feet to be the one to throw the zumian warrior, making use of the own force Jiira himself had put into his attack to augment the distance he would hurl the triton to.
Jiira is propelled forwards, but also manages an aerial maneuver to prevent himself from crashing on the floor. He turns in the air, touching the ground with both hands and then performing a series of backflips before he manages to reduce the kinetic force enough to fall on his feet stabilize enough to keep himself erect.
– “Not bad… You got better” – Jiira praises.
– “Ha! You haven’t seen anything yet!” – The namekian teases, causing Jiira to smirk. The zumian then dashes attempting his own counter attack, throwing a fast punch at his former colleague, exhibiting the speed he was known for in the patrol.
Although it was too much for Nemo to dodge, he manages to block it by palm striking the zumian’s joint away. On his turn, Nemo raises his fist up with all fingers pointed in a karate chop position and swiftly brings his limb down diagonally aiming at the pressure point in Jiira’s neck.
The haired one manages to also parry Nemo’s attack with his fist, retaliating with a direct punch to Nemo’s face, who manages to swiftly dodge by tilting his head and inclining his torso to the left. At this point of the fight, the speed of their blows began to increase and the duo engaged in the traditional dragonball-ish clash. Many fists and legs flying. Many dodges, a few blocks and even less hits. This go on for a minute or so, until Nemo finally manages to get past Jiira’s speed and defenses, hitting him with a palm strike on the stomach. This attack causes the man to slide across the ground, although he still managed to stand on his feet, while rutting the soft grass.
The merman didn’t have much time to react and counter attack this time. When he looked up after he finished skating, Nemo was already in the air and in front of him and delivered a powerful and accurate kick to the man’s face, now causing him to be defenselessly hurled backwards, causing him to hit the floor and bounce a few times before stopping facing down. He is quick to regain his composure though, standing up. Nemo was making his way towards him again slowly this time. Jiira cleans the blood in his lips with the back of his hand and nods.
– “Who would guess… you finally beat me” – Jiira states.
– “Heh… You’re either playing with me or you got weaker. You don’t have to go light on me just because I’m visiting your home” – Nemo responds.
– “Nah… I wouldn’t hesitate in kicking that green ass of yours. I guess you’re right… I got weak” – The teal warrior concedes.
– "Then you will have to train harder for the next time I visit” – Nemo suggests, placing his hand over his friend’s shoulder. Jiira seems to become serious for a moment, looking down and away.
– “What happened?” – The namekian inquires.
– “It’s nothing… I’m just worried, that’s all. With all that’s going on” – Jiira answers.
– “Relax, old friend. I’m not letting anyone do any more harm to your people. I would give my life for that, if needed” – Nemo vows.
– “I know you would, old friend. I know you would… Now let’s go back to the castle. I will show you your accommodations. We have a long day ahead of ourselves tomorrow” – Jiira says. Nemo then follow him to the palace’s guest room.
Taking a shower was the trickiest part. As zumians bathe in salt water normally, they don’t have special installations for a normal bath since visiting aliens like Nemo aren’t much of an usual occurrence in Deidoro. At least in the zumian civilization. The namekian tired to follow the custom but woke up the next day to figure out he was all itchy because of the concentration of salt in his skin. It was also a bit uncomfortable to sleep in that situation (experiment taking a dive at the sea and then put on a shirt and you’ll get what I mean), despite all the perks a royal palace guest room had to offer. Being Nemo…well… Nemo… of course he didn’t complain about it to his hosts about his little situation. The next day though, he asked if there was a lake or something in the surroundings and where directed there so he could clean himself of the salt. It is when he is done washing himself by a nearby river that the story continues, with Jiira approaching him.
– “Are you ready to go?” – The teal skinned humanoid inquires.
– “Yeah. Let me just put on my clothes” – The slug-man responds, getting to the margin to pick up his vests. Jiira turns away preferring not to experience the naked namekian sightseeing.
– “Why didn’t you tell me about the salt thing yesterday? I would get at least get you some freshwater your could bathe yourself with” – Jiira interrogates with his arms crossed and back turned on his friend.
– “There was no need to bother. It’s not like I was going to die because of a little salt covering my body” – Nemo says, putting on his violet jumpsuit.
– “It’s not like it would kill to ask either. The king himself said you are a guest” – Jiira states.
– “There is no need to dwell on that anymore now. Let me just finish putting on my clothes and we can head to the chidaian city to talk to King Zander already” – Nemo says, now putting on his boots.
– “As practical as always… fine… get yourself ready then so we can go” – Jiira hurries his friend.
All set, the two take off and fly miles towards the heart of the lands until they find the Ore City, where King Zander resided. It had a very urban look to it; definitely a megalopolis. There were many vehicles in the streets and the industries chimneys would burp toxic gases that would fuse into a thick curtain of smog over the city. It was a steampunk sort of setting, contrasting greatly with the nature feel of Brankia City. The pollution was so dense up there, that the duo couldn’t fly for long and had to descend to the streets. Naturally, they drew all eyes to themselves. The chidaians knew exactly what a zumian was… but a namekian? Not, they have never seen the plant-slug people in their lives.
Ignoring the talks, the two proceed to the castle of King Zander. Jiira has been there already with King Shiro, so he knew exactly where to go. Naturally, when they arrive at the door, the axe-wielding brute soldiers cross their weapons in front of the door, barring their passage.
– “Halt! State your business with in the palace!” – The soldier demands.
– “I am here to talk with King Zander, on the behalf of the Galactic Patrol” – Nemo takes the initiative and steps forward to address the guard.
– “Galactic Patrol? Is this some sort of joke? What are you trying to pull out, zumian?” – The mistrustful guard turns to the teal skinned alien, ignoring the patrolman for a moment.
– “I assure you this is no joke. I suggest you go fetch your king already and stop wasting our time” – The zumian orders.
– “What? Who do you think you are to be giving me orders like that?” – The angry guard steps forward, ignoring Nemo again as he passes by him like if he wasn’t there, menacingly marching towards the fish-man. Nemo stops him by grabbing the man by his cloak.
– “Wha- Let me go already!” – The soldier orders, while the other guard wields his axe in an offensive stance now. Nemo does as asked. His intent was merely prevent the man from confronting his friend. And to remember he was actually there as well.
– “Easy there, friend” – Nemo says.
– “I’m not your friend! I’m a chidaian guard! And Ill teach you a lesson for attacking an officer on duty!” – The hasty soldier affirms, bringing down his axe at Nemo. The namekian simply grabs the blade between his thumb and index finger.
– “Uh?” – The guard mumbles a bit surprised, just like his colleague. Applying a bit of strength, Nemo then causes the weapon to crack and break, sending the two guards into an awe state.
– “I won’t repeat myself. I’m here to speak with King Zander. Take us to him now” – Nemo demands with his usual piercing stare.
The zumian and the namekian were escorted to the inner section of the chidaian castle where the species’ leader could be found. They were watching this big figure (he was even taller than Nemo himself) resembling some sort of golem with an alexandrite-like pattern on his head, resembling what would be hair.
– “Topaz… Rald… What are these men doing in my palace?” – The king inquires, puzzled at the strangers’ presence.
– “Uh… they insisted on talking to you… they say it’s Galactic Patrol business” – The embarrassed guard responds.
– “Galactic Patrol?! What… You there… You’re Shiro’s bodyguard, aren’t you?” – The rock king addresses his teal skinned neighbor, once again leaving Nemo ignored in the room, something that was already starting to get on his nerves.
– “Yes, your highness. The Galactic Patrol sent this man to discuss the issue with the Great Sea’s pollution with you” – Jiira explains.
– “What is this ‘Galactic Patrol’ you’re talking about? And haven’t I already told your king the expansion of Ore cannot stop?” – The unreasonable king maintains his position.
– “The Galactic Patrol is the proud group of protectors of the universe under the rulership of the Galactic King, my lord. We are worried about the impact you’re causing on the environment of Deidoro and your neighbors lives as well” – Nemo explains.
– “Galactic King? HA! So this is how it is, zumian... You don’t get things your way, so you go complain with the space police? This is an affront to my authority! I already discussed this matter with your leader. I was even benevolent enough to offer my help in seeking a cure to this ‘disease’ you say is afflicting your people and this is how you repay me? Treachery!” – The outraged king hits the armrest of his throne in anger.
– “The zumians are still dying! You can’t just-“ – Nemo is interrupted before his complete his sentence by the furious king.
– “And you just shut up! You’re in my halls now! You don’t come tell me what I can or can’t do in my planet! Your ‘Galactic Patrol’ has no jurisdiction or power here. So just tell this Galactic King of yours to stay out of us deidorians businesses. The space is big enough for you to find other people to meddle with their affairs” – The man yells.
– “Your planet…” – Nemo simple mutters, being targeted once again by the explosive chidaian’s words.
– “YES! My planet! And if you want to get back to wherever you come from any time soon, I suggest you lower your head and get out of my sight, before I throw you in jail. Now! Leave. I don’t have anything else to say to you” – King Zander orders. Nemo seemed about to explode in anger, but was called back to his senses by his friend’s hand resting on his shoulder.
– “Leave it. Let’s get out of here” – Jiira says.
– “But…” – Nemo tries to contest.
– “It seems your friend is more sensate than you are. I suggest you do as he says, before I lose my temper again” – King Zander threatens. Nemo looks at Jiira a little lost, but the zumian nods. Nemo does the same, with a sweat drop on his head.
– “Fine” – He says to the chidaian overlord, before turning his back and leaving without any further words.
As soon as they leave the palace, the duo takes off.
– “This is unacceptable… I can’t believe how thick-headed this man is!” – Nemo exposes his frustrations after the failed enterprise.
– “Zander is a difficult man to deal with. I was afraid that he wouldn’t listen even to the Galactic Patrol” – Jiira confesses.
– “Such a disrespectful man… How could he talk about King Lutuch that way!” – Nemo continues to vent.
– “That’s just how he is. He just won’t accept being told what to do. You saw it yourself. He talks like if Deidoro was his planet” – Jiira points out.
– “True… what a lunatic… This will be harder than I thought. I will have to contact King Lutuch on the matter. I didn’t expect this man to be so unreasonable” – Nemo confesses, uncertain of how to proceed, other than making the “beat” part of “beating some sense” literal.
– “Don’t worry about that. I have a plan” – Jiira reveals.
– “Really? What is it that-“ – Nemo is then interrupted… by a very unexpected attack.
Imagine everything just turned into slow-motion. You see Nemo’s eyes completely white as he was just struck by a critical blow. Both him and Jiira were flying side-by-side. There was no one else out there with them. The author of the attack was he zumian himself, karate-chopping Nemo in a pressure point in his neck. It was enough to cause the flight aura around Nemo to disappear… and to cause Nemo to go unconscious. Jiira grabs him before he comes down crashing in the ground. He then slowly levitates holding the blacked out namekian safely until they hit the soil. He puts the green-skinned alien on the ground. They were far enough away from the chidaian city already. The teal skinned man then accommodates the namekian on a rock, rummaging through the patrolman’s belt bag, as if searching from something specific. He then brings his hand out of the satchel-like container. When he opens his hands, we see a small capsule on it. It’s an Extinction Bomb.
