Polar inhaled, and then exhaled. The air of planet Kanassa was harsh on his lungs.
Good. It challenged him; pushed him beyond his natural boundaries.
The silence of the plateau did him well in contrast to being surrounded by noisy grunts. It allowed him to meditate in peace and gain introspection.
He sat there for hours, with Ki energy crackling around him in a sophisticated dance beyond his comprehension. Polar could feel this power coursing through him. There was so much potential in there, but it was up to him to seize it. And that required learning to concentrate his power.
After such a long, but worthwhile warm-up, the Arcosian finally stood and took in his environment. To a simple person, there was little here but rocks and dirt. Polar, however, had found his arena. The corporal circled the plateau. There plenty of boulders, big and small. There was many the size of his fist, some the size of his head, and even a few that was his own size.
The smaller ones he stacked in piles around the plateau, with the melon-sized rocks taking the place of the ‘head’. The small formations were meant to look like people. Though, they were rather short, they would suffice.
Polar started from a distance, speeding toward one of the formations via flight and smashing through it with his fist. It fell apart into tiny pebbles rather easily. Planting his feet onto the ground by the remains, he pointed his index finger to another of the stone people and fired a Death Beam. It crumbled like its ill-fated brother. With another blast, another of the rocky warriors fell.
The Arcosian turned his attention to the remaining formations. Squinting his eyes and gritting his teeth, he forced out a concentration of Ki that, quite literally, reduced the stone men to melted rock. He jerked his head to the left, instantly slicing through the last two warriors.
In less than a minute, they had all perished. Polar raised an eyebrow. Though he had been drained some, it was not nearly enough to justify a day’s worth of training. This no doubt sharpened his abilities, but he needed a greater challenge to keep up with his growing abilities.

Polar flew about for a long while, looking for a different location. He wasn’t exactly sure what he was looking for, but he was hoping to find something here that could help him train further.
He was, however, pulled from his thoughts, and thrown to a grinding halt as a bird began to harass him by pecking his jewel. Polar growled, trying to swat the thing away. However, when the bird wouldn’t relent, he finally grew annoyed to the point that he opted to through it, and finished it off with his eye beams.
Polar’s eyebrow raised as he heard heavy laughter behind him, followed by a heavy accented voice.
“Such a brute, lizard!” mocked the voice, “Lowered to killing mere animals now?”
He recognized the voice; Captain Lazana, one of Taiga’s officers. Polar hadn’t met him personally, but it seemed that the alien had no particular love for him. The Arcosian turned to face the crimson Brench-seijin, and crossed his arms.
“Why Lord Taiga has taken a liking to you is beyond me,” Lazana continued. “Let’s see your power level.”
With the familiar beeps from his yellow scouter, Lazana let out a boisterous laugh.
“Three thousand! Pathetic! Do you know what my power level is?”
Polar remained silent, squinting his eyes at the Brench-seijin in annoyance at the interruption.
“Four thousand, one hundred, and twenty.” The red alien placed his hands on his hips proudly.
“And how is that relevant, Captain?”
“The relevance would escape your thick skull, Arcosian. But I’ll put it in terms you can understand: I grow weary of playing second-banana to a CORPORAL.” The Brench-seijin’s palm became to glow a distinct blue color. “Perhaps with you gone, Lord Taiga won’t be so clouded with the thoughts of his kinsman over the needs of his soldiers!”
The Captain extended his palms to fire blast after blast at the Lance Corporal, even as the lizard flew to dodge the attacks.
“HOLD STILL, YOU LIZARD!”
Polar flew as fast as he could, trying to avoid Lazana’s assault. At the same time, he extended his finger to fire a finger blast for Lazana.
The chances that it would’ve actually hit Lazana were slim, but the fact it hit Lazana directly in his scouter was pure luck on Polar’s part. The Arcosian took advantage of this, as the red alien was disoriented by the attack, to charge him.
Polar’s fist struck Lazana’s left cheek. Polar then attempted to continue his assault by smacking Lazana with his tail, though this worked in the latter’s favor. The alien caught Polar’s tail, and began to spin him about, eventually throwing him into a nearby mountainside.
“BIG BANG ATTACK!” cried Lazana, extending his hand forward.
There was a huge explosion along the mountainside. Lazana grinned wickedly, deeming his work a success.
The Captain came in for a landing amid all the spoke and debris, crossing his arms and holding a smug grin. However, that grin slowly faded into a look of shock as he say Polar standing there, holding his side, but definitely in fighting condition.
“H-how did you survive that?”
“You’re arrogant, Lazana,” hissed the scowling lizard, “And that’s your undoing.”
“Yo-…” He choked up, not knowing what to say. “YOU FOOL!”
The alien lunged forward, attempting to bring down both fists onto the Arcosian’s jewel. Polar raised his hand to catch Lazana’s wrists, though found himself slowly sliding back, toward the wall.
“This is the end for you.”
Polar grunted, and looked up from the ground to Captain Lazana. Squinting his eyes, he sent beams from his eyes, directly into the man’s face. Lazana couldn’t help but screech in pain, retracting his paws from Polar to grasp his own face, which was smoking like a burnt steak.
The Arcosian extended a finger toward his opponent, who peeked through the spacing between his fingers. Lanza went in for a final attack, attempting to chop Polar with his hand.
“YOU BASTAR-“
Then there was silence, save for Lazana’s gasps as he glanced at the hole in his chest, causing by the magenta beam from Polar’s now sizzling finger. Lazana fell on his knees, before finally succumbing to his injuries. Polar merely looked down at him solemnly, and shook his head. A waste.
The Arcosian looked down at the hand that killed Lazana, and clenched it into a fist. He turned and left, and eventually levitated and left the battlefield. He went looking for a greater challenge and it seemed destiny delivered. A shame that they lost a soldier, but the fool chose his fate. Right?
