"Ugh... Why do I feel so light? Wait a second...Is that my voice? What the heck is going on?!" A high pitched squeak of a voice would fill the air as the consciousness of everybody's favorite super hero: Captain Nova (or Nicolas even) collected in the afterlife in the form of a poof. The little cloud seemed to whip about in confusion as it desperately tried to piece together just what the heck happened. The last thing Nicolas could remember was grabbing unto Realigner Red in a desperate attempt to defeat him. Then, he could recall the vicious cloud of steam and...
"WHAWHA!? I'M DEAD!!" The could shrieked at sudden panicked realization.
"Ah yes, it normally only takes a second or two to register." The cloud turned to glance at a kindly (if not a bit dorky looking) man with sky blue skin and horns. Wait... Was that a devil? Was he in hell?! Still, if he was it seemed odd, where he expected fire and pitch forks it looked as if this dweeby looking devil was some kind of pencil pusher. He was wearing a white short sleeved collared shirt, a black tie and tiger stripped pants (for some reason.) Nicolas' spirit recoiled a bit in fear at the Oni.
"A-Are you the devil? Am I in hell?" His unnaturally high pitched voice came out meekly. He never would have dreamed he was bad enough to go into hell. All he wanted to do was help people as Captain Nova and entertain others with his art as Nicolas. Hell seemed like a pretty harsh punishment!
"No no! You're not in hell... Yet." Oh yeah, that was super comforting. As if sensing his distress the Oni would quickly continue. "I mean, I'm not sure where you're going! I'm just an intern you see... King Yemma at the check in station is the one who determines where you go! Though you get to plead your case to an extent, you must tell him the best and worst thing you did with your life! You can't lie to him either cause he'll know and then he'll get grumpy it gives him extra paperwork you see..."
"Paperwork?! What the heck is this place? Some kind of check in station?" The puffball said sarcastically. Nicolas didn't expect there would be paperwork involved when he died... It just seemed kind of silly.
"Actually... You're right on the money! Now if you'll please get in line your eternity will be awaiting you!" The Oni said shooing him to his spot.
This was weird... He wasn't sure if he were still dreaming or not frankly, but he did as he was told and hovered to his spot in line. As he waited, flashes of his life fluttered before his... He saw bits of his life in his mind. What would he say? Where would he go? He could only wait and see when it was finally his turn to speak to his judge jury and potentially executioner.
It didn't take too long for him to move through the line. As he daydreamed about his life things seemed to speed along. Soon he could see a glimpse of the titanic mahogany desk from where he was standing, and a rather obnoxious spirit before it.
"...The kindest act I've ever done was covering her face with a lunch ba-" Before it could finish a great trap door opened and swallowed the soul into the shadowy abyss.
"Waugh!!!" Nicolas' entire from shuddered in fear at witnessing the damnation of a soul. He could only pity whoever the heck that wise guy was. He didn't linger on it however, as next it was his turn to face the giant red faced King. He hovered to the center of the room and looked up to the titan. He remembered the words of the intern and began.
"...My name is Nicolas Mclendon, I lived a good, honest, yet arguably short life being the best person I could be. The best thing I did for people... Was put my life on the line as the costumed super hero: Captain Nova." Flashes of his antics as a super hero came into his mind all at once. He saved an old turtle zoanthrope from the group of muggers his first day dressed as a hero. He hunted down and challenged the saiyan Gula when he was slaughtering countless innocents by destroying towns for fun. Due to his intervention, he managed to protect and save a few hidden families that survived his onslaught of Mint Village. Back when Darksteel robbed that bank, he swooped in and saved the wounded cop's life that was nearly taken by his goons. He even saved the family that Darksteel attacked (though in doing so he let him slip away.) "All in all, I think I did a lot of good as Captain Nova. I brought people hope..." He devoted so much time to being a hero, That didn't even include all the people he saved in North City.
"..."
His cloudy head lowered suddenly as his thoughts went back to his last moments.
"...For the worst thing I did..." His voice was somber, sorrow gripping him suddenly as he realized the gravity of his situation. "...I-I.." His squeaky voice choked as he tried to get the words out. "I made a desperate gamble, a crazy attempt to prevent the android Realigner Red from leaving so the other heroes could get a shot at stopping him from hurting or killing any more people... While I stopped him... He destroyed a section of the city in retaliation...If I hadn't stopped him those people wouldn't have had to die. My actions... They lead to their...You know."
He felt responsible for their deaths, and while he didn't kill them his misguided attempt to defeat the crazed android lead to their deaths.
"...If you run into any of them, please tell them... I'm sorry."
