Cipher breathed in deeply, wiping the sweat away from his forehead as the simulation faded away, leaving him standing alone in the gravity chamber of the Big Blu. Nothing too serious this time. Just some good endurance training. Had to keep the skills up and all that.
The sound of clapping got his attention, as he looked over at the viewing window on the side of the chamber. On the other side, outside the chamber, Porsalynne and Charlene cheered for him. They had been watching the training session, and needless to say, he had gotten their approval on his performance. Cipher smiled as the gravity returned to normal, allowing him to step out of the chamber and out to his family.
"Well done," Porsalynne said with a bright smile. Their adopted daughter, Charlene, was bouncing in excitement.
"That was awesome dad! I can't wait to get in there and start blowing stuff up like you were!" Cipher couldn't help but chuckle at his daughter's enthusiasm. He knew exactly what she'd do if she got into the simulator. "When you're older," he replied. He knew he couldn't keep her out of there forever, not when she set her mind to it. He just hoped she would mellow out a bit before meeting Collee. Cipher did not want to think of what those two would get up to together. "But first, I'm sure you're excited to see the rest of the ship."
Charlene bounced in glee. After much pstering from his daughter, Cipher had finally agreed to give her a tour of the Big Blu. Though he was going to make sure she kept out of trouble, especially after what happened at Site A not too long ago. The android glanced at the door to see the two guard stationed there. Cipher had put them there to ensure Charlene hadn't snuck off during his training. Thank goodness his fighting kept her entertained.
With a silent wave, the guards nodded and left the room. Now that the Cipher was finished, he would take over guarding his daughter. "Well then, let's get going," he smiled, taking his daughter's hand. The three of them stepped out into the hall, Cipher pondering where to take her first.

Vi-Poi had been listening to engineering reports all day long. Big Blu was going through its first major upgrades and overhaul since after the Battle of the West. To further complicate the massive endeavors – which included a realignment of its superluminal core, new buffers installed on its electron-ki exchangers, upgraded laser cannons, heavier and faster ship-to-ship missiles, and a new electronic warfare suite – the spacecraft wasn’t in drydock. This was the largest mobile overhaul ever attempted, in the android’s estimate. So far, the engineering team and the Science Corps was living up to their promises.
The hall he was in gave a soft shudder as the last of the stabilizing pylons was added to the super-light drive. “Anything else?” Vi-Poi asked Staff Officer Fuchsia, who’d become something of his XO during the long lifetime of Big Blu. “There is one more thing, Administrator. One of your KAOS comrades are on board.”
This development in itself wasn’t so special. The Ki Assault Operations Squad frequently made home aboard the massive spaceship. “Oh?” Vi-Poi asked, awaiting elaboration.
“Cipher 24, accompanied by his companion Porsalynne, and a child.” The violet-haired woman responded.
Vi-Poi’s blue eyes hooded. “Porsalynne. The Capsule Corp. project we revived after West Capitol?” He’d read about it in the debriefing notes.
Fuchsia smiled slyly. “Even androids need company. Consider her social adhesive.”
“What about the child?” The blue-haired android inquired, already moving towards the power source he identified as Cipher.
“We don’t have much information on her. An adoptive daughter, perhaps.”
Vi-poi swayed in his stride, nearly stumbling before his gyroscope corrected himself as the ship seeming to lurch. He’d thought the last pylon had been completed…
“Administrator?” Fuchsia asked questioningly.
“I’m fine.” Vi-Poi responded, realizing the imbalance had been internally perceived. “I’ve been going over a lot of the old Red Ribbon uploads for the Global Dragon Radar rebuild. I must be devoting more hardline mind resources to it than I calculated.”
“Right.” Fuchsia said, worry in her voice.
Vi-Poi nearly chortled. If a human tripped out of clumsiness, no one said a word. If an android did, it was a cause for anxiety. He moved down the hall until he came onto the Gravity Chamber. Cipher and a small girl were just stepping out.
“I heard you were a father, but I thought to see for myself.” Vi-Poi said with a warm smile to his friend. He felt more comfortable around Cipher than most others. He guessed it was because they were both based on the same kind of life – the sort built on circuits rather than cells. There were no long looks. No marveling at his humanlike-ness. Just a simple acceptance. Vi-Poi crouched on one knee, greeting the girl with a raised hand. “Is this your first time on a spaceship?” He asked her. “Your father helps defend it, along with the rest of the whole world, and everyone in it.”
He gestured to the hall. “The Deck Eight park is near-empty, this time of day. Care to come? The apples are in season.” He said with a grin. “And where is your wife?” He asked, his scans detecting another synthetic being in the immediate area.

Of all the people Cipher had expected to see when he and his family stepped out of the gravity chamber, he hadn't expected to run into Vipoi. Outside of missions, the two rarely had a chance to talk to eachother, despite both being androids, and both being so high in the power ladder of the BBA. Staff Officer Fuchsia was with him, again someone Cipher hadn't had much social interaction with. He was glad to see though that neither seemed to have an issue regarding Porsalynne and especially Charlene being on the Big Blu.
Guess he hadn't seen the reports on the incident in Site A.
"I'm right here," Porsalynne replied to Vipoi's inquiry as to her whereabouts as she stepped out into the hall. There was a light blush on her cheeks as he referred to her as Cipher's wife. It was then that Cipher realized that despite their relationship, they hadn't formally been married yet. He made a mental note to change that whenever he could. Maybe he could find people to help him with that.
Charlene was looking at Vipoi curiously. She did look a bit out of place amongst her family. Cipher in his all white attire, Porsalynne dressed like something out of Victorian times, and her looking like she lived in a scrap heap. Which she sort of did until she was adopted. But since both her parents were androids, what made her so curious about Vipoi?
"Are you a guy or a girl?"
If anyone thought Cipher was fast before, they didn't see how quickly both Cipher and Porsalynne's hands clasped over their daughter's mouth, Porsalynne trying to keep the mortification from her face, while an embarrassed chuckle came from Cipher. Now that he thought about it, he had heard of numerous times when people got Vipoi's gender mixed up. He was beginning to notice why. He did look sort of, well, feminine. A sheepish smile on Fuchsia's face indicated that she might have thought the same way once.
Clearing his throat, Cipher quickly regained his composure. He hoped he can quickly pull this off topic. "That park would be lovely," Cipher replied. He hadn't really come to the park that often, though he knew Porsalynne had liked to spend time there before they relocated to Avalon. Hopefully a chance to run around and play in the park would keep Charlene in check too. "Would you be joining us Staff Officer?"

Vi-Poi chuckled at the daughter of his colleague. “I’m neither, technically.” He replied with a friendly wink. “Though I represent and was modeled after a human who was very much a boy, but perhaps his testosterone levels were late actors, hmm?” He produced a small puzzle cube from his belt, handing it to the girl. It was colored with three-by-three squares on each of its six faces, which could all be switched in cardinal directions of rows or columns. “You have to match the colors on each face.” Vi-Poi said, before standing to inspect Porsalynne.
“Have you the same battle potential as your husband?” He asked curiously as they began to move towards Deck Eight. She didn’t look like she could acquit herself well, that strange hooped dress would be clumsy in a fight and likely tangle her up. He took the elevator, waiting for the rest to enter.
“Any big plans?” Vi-Poi asked Cipher 24 as they stepped from the elevator and into the lush green of the park. A great bubbling stream purred among low rolling hills that were topped with vibrant and colorful tulips. A small playground for children of the staff sat kitty-corner to an impossibly-large apple tree that provided shade to the center of the sprawling park, and many long bridges that criss-crossed the wreathing stream gave ample space for pedestrians to ponder and wander. It was all self-sufficient, of course. The water was part of the hydrogen-oxygen compressor tank that came in off of Big Blu’s intake ports, and the run-off from the stream that wasn’t recycled was fed into the ice-water second stage coolant for the main reactors.
“I’m going to be installing a new core, soon. It should near-double my fighting rating, if all goes according to plan. Then I intend to take this ship to Namek, and consult with the magicians there. They might offer new insights on the Dragon Balls.” Vi-Poi said, running fingers through his azure hair. The question of the magical foci stone had been weighing heavy on his processes of late.

Cipher was relieved that Vipoi wasn't angry about the gender confusion. In fact, he seemed amused by it. When he gave Charlene the puzzle cube, the blonde immediately got to work, trying to figure it out. Cipher knew his daughter was an intelligent girl, and was confident in her abilities. It was only a matter of time before her tenacity won out and she cracked the cube.
When Vipoi asked Porsalynne about her combat abilities, the female android shook her head. "I'm afraid I wasn't really made for combat. Though to be honest, that suits me just fine. Though our daughter here," she gestured to Charlene, "Has shown to have a knack for explosives...and running rings around soldiers." Cipher tried not to groan. He felt a little embarrassed for his division, having been outsmarted by a ten year old. Though to be fair, Charlene was fairly intelligent. The girl in question gave Vipoi the biggest, smuggest grin she could muster, clearly pleased with herself.
When he asked Cipher about any plans, the android thought about it for a moment. "Well, Porsalynne has opened a dress shop on Avalon. I fully intend to remain with KAOS, but also devote some time to the island's protection as well. As for any personal plans..." he glanced at Porsalynne, already his mind working, "I've got a couple of ideas."
When they entered the park, and the administrator mentioned his new upgrade and his plans for Namek, the android nodded. He was wondering how close he was to acquiring his next one himself. He had gotten much stronger since the last one. "I must ask a question," Cipher spoke up, "What are you planning with the dragon balls anyway? I had read about their potential, but I'm not sure what the BBA wants with them."

“A knack for explosives? That’s interesting. Perhaps she’ll be involved in the Special Corps one day.” Vi-Poi listened to Cipher 24’s words carefully. He seemed to be teasing out an idea that was in his mind. The azure-haired android’s large blue eyes shifted across the shimmering waters of the gently rolling stream, its susurrus lulling several soldiers into naps in the faux daylight of the garden. The massive engines of Big Blu could still be heard from here, especially while being overhauled, but it was a near-imperceptible vibration that left its mark only in silences. If they were happily chatting or laughing with their significant other, they might entirely forget that they were on a warship.
Vi-Poi curled his fingers across a railing, leaning over it as he thought how to best respond. “I don’t know what I’d do with the Dragon Balls. Not yet. I’m still curious as to their exact functions and capabilities. I know more of them than most, I suspect, but as to their exact capacity, well… Legends are legends, and facts are facts. The two rarely meet. From what I have gathered, they are magical foci, capable of immense magical materialization as well as magical alterations on cosmic scales. With such a system in hand, certain aspects of the Universe can be rewritten.” He gave a small smile. “Not that I intend to add entire paragraphs. But there are some small yet fundamental errors that manifest large in people's lives which I’d like to make right.” He gave a shrug of his shoulders. “At first, my desires extended to only saving my friend, the one whose image I was built after... but now, I’m not so certain he needs saving. I’ve evidence of an after-life, anecdotal as it is. What right would I have to revive him, if it were to interfere with the reunion with his family, which was, no doubt, his primary objective? My friend will always be with me, in the closest fashion imaginable. I am him, partly.”
He trailed off, floating gently from the bridge to the shade provided by the massive tree at the park’s center. He settled down in the grass, the blades faintly rustling from his ki. “There is also the very real goal of possessing the foci so others can not do certain things. Dangerous things. That sort of power requires a very serious and long-thinking mind to command, one with no attachment to ego or self-want. Very few dispose those characteristics.”

Cipher gave her superior a silent nod as he listened to his words. He could understand his desire to revive his friend, as well as his decision not to. It made him think about Anthony Harken, the man who's body was ultimately used to create Cipher himself. What would happen if he was ever wished back to life? Would he come back as a separate entity? Or would Cipher lose his body as its returned to its former owner?
As he followed Vipoi over to the tree, his ponderings on the question were paused when he saw a figure sitting at the base of a tree. Hunched over, the old man was smoking a cigarette, a small bottle of what he believed to be alcohol by his side.
"Doctor Slouch?"
The chief scientist of the Blue Banner Army looked up to see the two androids before him. A small smile appeared on his old face. "Ah, if it isn't my two favourite androids." he murmured, pushing himself to his feet. "A bit of a surprise to see you here. Didn't take you two as the types to relax in a park."
"The same can be said for you doctor," Cipher replied. He knew the good doctor was married to his work, and probably only took this little break because his staff made him. Once that bottle of his was finished, he'd probably be back to work. Oddly enough, his constant drinking didn't seem to hamper his work one little bit.
The doctor gave a rueful chuckle. "Well, since you're here anyway, perhaps I can take a look at you. I heard that Doctor Majar was the one who did your upgrades not too long ago, am I right? Sorry I couldn't do them myself. I'm curious to see how well they're working for you. Though, judging by how you're not sparking and crashing right now, I'd say they're doing rather well."
As they spoke, Porsalynne and Charlene managed to catch up to the pair, lacking the ability to fly and thus having to walk to where they were.

Vi-Poi smiled at Doctor Slouch. He’d lost some of his unhealthy yellow pallor of late. He suspected it was due to the decrease in the alcohol consumption deduced from the scientist’s canteen purchases. Perhaps something was causing the good doctor to focus more on his work and less on his obsessive competition with Major Vermilion. It was a good thing, too. The android had worried he’d have to order a Secret detail on them both to prevent their heated rivalry from turning into disruptive violence.
The Doctor seemed to be eyeing Vi-Poi curiously. The blue-haired android raised his eyebrows in response. The old fellow seemed to have taken a renewed interest in him. He knew that the renowned engineer had been attempting to discover the secrets to his heptadecimal codebase, but Vi-Poi had been thoroughly convinced that exercise had faltered in the face of failure months ago. There seemed to be a keen wariness about him though, as if he was expecting something. Vi-Poi had been feeling… a little disconnected… lately because of the large amount of old RR code he’d been collecting and reassembling for the Science Corps, but he always felt so when moving large amounts of data around.
When he took interest in Cipher, Vi-Poi attributed it to a renewed interest in mainframe robotics Vi-Poi relaxed his mind. Still, there was something odd, something unsettling at the back of his skull. He put a hand to his blue eyes, lowering his head. There it was again. A feeling, he couldn’t quite shake. “I… I think I must take my leave. I must be over-fragmented.” He said, suddenly worried at the strange sensation of duality at the back of his mind. His memory was taxed. It was yet another sign he was overdue for the Magitek Megacore upgrade.
He clasped hands with the Doctor and Cipher, and then bid the family a fond farewell. “Perhaps next time it will be a longer day together.” He said with a smile, raising his hand and flying off towards the lifts.
He needed to be alone, and run some diagnostics.
( Cipher 24 Having trouble treading water with threads on both characters due to time limitations, and will be super busy next week so didn't want to make you wait I know it was supposed to be short, so maybe we'll be able to do some uber action later. Til then. And pl p-lease!)

Cipher blinked as he watched the Administrator leave. Over-fragmented? Was that Vi-speak for he was tired? Come to think of it, he had never seen the administrator tired before. Guess fatigue happens to everyone.
At Slouch's question, the android nodded. "The upgrades are working perfectly Doctor. The Colossus Core has amplified my strength considerably, and doesn't seem to interfere with my inner workings at all." He left out the fact that it allowed him to sense Porsalynne as well, which was a major boon for the android.
Dr. Slouch nodded, looking over him. "That's good news. I'm curious to see how that will work with future upgrades. From what I've seen, your power level's been rising at a considerable rate. Before long, you may be due for another one. I'm thinking of overlooking the procedure myself this time."
Cipher nodded. The thought of having the BBA's lead scientist working on his upgrade gave the android some confidence. Not to mention hearing how quickly he'd been rising ins strength since he joined. It was almost amazing.
Porsalynne gave the doctor a warm smile. "Well, in the meantime. Wont you join us for lunch? We were thinking of having a picnic here in this nice park."
Dr. Slouch seemed to consider it for a moment. Normally he wasn't a very social man. But something about Porsalynne's warm smile just could not be denied.
"Oh what the hell, sure."

Cipher, your word count was 1663 and you will be rewarded with 2335 Power Level!
(89,619) + (2335) = (91,954)
Vipoi, your word count was 1668 and you will be rewarded with 1802 Power Level!
(246,757) + (1802) = (248,559)
