You’re looking at the floor in a close in camera. It’s made of brick… perhaps granite, who knows. You see a stamped silhouette in the floor, like the projection of someone’s shadow. As the “camera” moves back, augmenting your field of vision you begin to see what seems to be someone’s torso moving up and down. It doesn’t take much longer for you to realize this someone’s arm supporting his or her body weight on a single arm; you soon are able to figure out it’s a he and he is doing one-handed push-ups. His grunts indicates he has been there for quite a while. His name is BREU. Well, not exactly. Until yesterday he was called something else entirely. Kurasao. That was his name. For a long time he has been out, undergoing a major surgical process that turned him into the fully biomechanical life-form he came to be. You noticed he has finished with his one non-bionic arm. He changes his exercise set, switching one-handed push-ups into vertical one-handed push-ups, again using his normal arm. There isn’t much point in hypertrophying muscles that don’t exist in a robotic arm, so his exercises are mostly unilateral. His increased body weight also helps with the efficiency of the exercise. He sticks with the training program; once he is done, he performs a backflip to stand straight on his two feet and performs a few kicks and punches in the air, before changing into a relaxed posture, diving into his own thoughts.
BREU wanted nothing more than power. That’s why he agreed on undergoing his cybernetic enhancement procedure. He has absolutely no idea how long it took to be complete. He recalls the moment he finally woke up. He was within some sort of containment chamber, when he his senses came back to him. Placing his hands on the borders of his coffin-like containment, he pulls himself out of it. There are two scientists in front of him, both clad in Blue Banner Army clothing.
– “You’re up” – The man states the obvious.
– “Hello, doctors” – BREU greets them.
– “It seems like your memory is working just fine. Do you remember your name?” – The older white haired man asks.
– “Of course. I am the mercenary Kurasao” – BREU answers.
– “Good. You are no longer to be called that anymore though. We made very… significant changes to your body. You are the fifty first android model to be created in this planet and shall be called BREU” – The old man explains. The uncomfortable Kurasao raises his brow in an apparent disapproval.
– “That’s an odd name” – The blue skinned cyborg mutters.
– “It stands for Bionic Recon and Extermination Unit. A reference to the… errands you’ll be better suited to be sent on” – He replies. The unpleased look in BREU’s face disappears and is replaced with a smirk.
– “Linking it better now” – The android says. He then looks at his hands and body, as if inspecting it.
– “Say, Doc… You told me you made some major changes to my body. I was expecting to be much stronger. If anything you managed to make me feel weaker” – BREU voices his discontentment.
– “That’s only because it’s the first time you are being activated. It will take sometime for you to get used to your enhancements and make full use of you model’s potential” – The second doctor, a shorter younger fellow with an “assistant” tag on his coat replies.
– “That’s correct. Also, take a look at your left hand” – The older man reinforces and instructs. BREU inspects his mechanic limb, noticing a small round pad in the palm of his hand.
– “We upgraded your bionic arm using the model before yours as a base. That’s an energy absorber. As the name suggests, it will allow you to drain ki out of others to further strengthen yourself. This will aid you in increasing your powers back to what it was faster, and also push it much further ” – The man explains.
– “I guess that works” – BREU responds, relaxing his arm once again. He looks around the room, as if looking fro someone.
– “Where’s the boss?” – The bionic man inquires.
– “He was… busy. I would suggest you go out and test your new toys for a little while. When he is ready, I’m sure he will pay you a visit” – The scientist-without-a-name-because-I’m-lazy-to-do-it suggests. It sounded like a good idea.
– “Will do” – The blue man says, before turning his back and walking towards the metal door that connected the lab with the courtyard outside. He presses the button to open it. As he was about to walk out of the room, the biomechanical man makes a stop, addressing the scientist once more before leaving their company:
– “Oh and doc…” – BREU says with his back still turned on the two men. He continues.
– “It’s called paid jobs. Not “errands”. Don’t you ever make me have to remind you the difference” – The brenchian elaborates. The old man and his assistant felt a shiver going down their spine. BREU doesn’t wait for them to reply. He simply walks away.
Now we are past this little flashback, in the present when BREU was doing his training session, to get adapted to his new body as the scientists had suggested. There was something else bothering him as well. Soon as he began his training session, his internal scouter registered an ubelievably high ki peak towards the western frontiers. Now, BREU was a proud warrior… with an ego even able to blind him to his own weaknesses. But both me and him have to admit such a power surge gave both of us the chills. It was a power much greater than he has ever been… and he would have to learn to make full use of his android model if he ever came across with such a power. And so, he raised the pace of his training. It was then that he started doing the push-up section from the beginning of the story. BREU got back to training.
