Skies crackled and winds howled whenever the thunder clapped. Blackened clouds drifted over the night's canvas, with the only light being the dim crimson red as a blood moon loomed overhead, piercing its luminescence through the veil. The winds barrelled through the meadow, buffeting against the hopeless grass with the intention of severing the blades from roots. The dust of the dry soil and nearby wind-eroding rocks kicked up into a small clout a few feet off of ground level.
Torn grass and debris of dry soil pelted and blew from the rustling, tattered gi of Sansho. The large prayer beads around his neck jangled within the wind, threatening to tear themselves from the chord that bound them together. His spiked red hair and topknot billowed about like dancing flames. Piercing crimson lights from his sunken eyes peered out across the land, fixated on nothing but what will come next.
But the demon was prepared for all. The strewn bodies of wildlife around him conceded that. Animals both huge and small who dared to venture out of their dens, nests and burrows into the dead of night with the intention of feasting upon their hunt had brought their pitiful, feral lives to an end. Large wolves, felines and ursa met a gruesome end to the raw power of mighty fists. Even a large tyrannosaurus had nothing to show for its effort besides severed arms, head, and gaping hole that gave a clear view through chest and spine. Blood poured out from the eviscerated corpses of these hapless beasts, coating green grass in dark liquid and soaking the earth a tinge of red-brown.
Sansho's eyes gazed out upon the wilderness. He had yet to have his fill of battle. These pathetic creatures could never sate his lust for combat. Crimson irises stared out in the distance as he stood still in waiting, in wanting, for something—or someone—else for his fists to strike against.

Chai sucked in a breath, fingers fidgeting with the empty sheath around his waist. Guardia had taken that sterling steel sword the East City Museum let him have to go give to Fortuneteller Jiji, with their four-hour time limit running low now. Chai had a few errands to run for the Blue Banner Army in Mount Paozu now, though. The mountain path was an excellent shortcut to the Zero-Zero Shipyards, which now held priceless parts Chai had to deliver to Site A, and pronto.
Whistling a chipper tune to himself, Chai would stretch his arms, smiling as a few chirping canaries whistled in the trees beside him, and the river beside his path of choice streamed, an occasional fish leaping out. Today was a beautiful day, and Chai was in a great mood. What could possibly go wrong on a day like this?
...The trail of dead animals was only barely noticeable at first. A few poor rabbits and squierrls had met their end along the dirt path the zoanthrope walked. Chai just presumed some hungry wolves got to the little animals, but then he saw those wolves dead as well... No matter- it must have been one of the dinosau-- Oh, there was one now, taking a nap! Except it was... Decapitated and beheaded. Nevermind.
Alright, this was getting kind of unnerving now. Chai would be more comfortable if he hadn't just stepped into the premise of a horror flick.
Hand to his chin with a concerned and apprehensive expression, Chai tried to keep his bare feet out of the occasional pool of blood, glancing about for some side-path he could take or something, anything, since this road was thoroughly trashed... But, as he approached what seemed to be the epicenter of the oddity of wildlife death, the zoan's ears twitched, and his head raised. There was a ki signature nearby- and a big one too.
...It didn't feel like a very happy energy.
'...What to do, Chai?' The zoan's conscious questioned. Engage the mystery man who probably killed everything nearby, and whom may or may not be willing to add a goat to his kill list of animals, or make the logical choice to turn around...? Well, he couldn't just let some stranger go around, tampering with the delicate ecosystem of Mount Paozu, could he? Chai sighed in defeat, quickly taking to the air. He had nothing better to do. With his smooth tongue and pleas, he could end this mass murder peacefully, right? At the very least, he could try and talk things out.'
After a short flight, Chai would find himself high above the clouds, gazing down at where the powerful energy lied. He suppressed his own power to remain hidden, however. Tenatively diving through the stormclouds, Chai could only wonder what would drive a person to do such a thing as this. He couldn't seem to understand it, no matter how hard he tried...
"H-Hello there, sir!" Chai's voice briefly chimed down from above Sansho. Eyeing the demon as he slithered down from the skies, Chai gave a meek, friendly wave to the humanoid, trying to keep his cool. "It sure is a wonderful time for a walk in the mountains, eh?" He chirped, ignoring the numerous animal corpses around them. "So, uh, stranger, what brings you out into this..." He finally glanced to the dead wildlife besides them, forging another smile while leaning against a tree. "...rather corpsey part of the forest?" The goat finished, cheekc forcibly puffed out with his smile. 'Dude, man up, You look like an idiot.' Chai's suppressed voice of reason chimed again internally, causing a few beads of sweat to drip down his head.

Something was passing by the demon. The power was faint, but he could sense it, drifting overhead. Sansho had thought of it as some sort of avian creature given its minute-yet-sizeable power when compared to other airborne creatures he had seen. Perhaps it was a wyrmling or young pterodactyl. He shifted his gaze up towards the clouds, but he saw nothing of such a creature. Instead he saw something much smaller, much more lithe in frame—humanoid, surprisingly.
"H-Hello there, sir!"
A quaint greeting if he had ever heard one. More so than that, Sansho was somewhat surprised that a human would be casually drifting this mountaintop in the late of night. It was dimmed as the person made their descent onto the plateau, landing some distance before the warrior. The once thought-of human was actually some sort of anthropomorphic animal, that of a caprine. Sansho's brow furrowed slightly, making his sunken eyes look all the smaller. He had fought a beast-like warrior before, and, despite his apparent loss, found great enjoyment from the battle. He had hoped that this one would prove to be able to give him something comparable.
But this creature was so weak and timid, it would be like beating a child. But it didn't appear that things were that simple; the zoanthrope was able to fly, and seemingly had no reservations about approaching the fields of slaughter with the demon stood at its epicentre. His clothing told a novel of hardship too, with his coat tattered and worn-looking, as though living through countless battlefields.
Sansho had known of fighters concealing their power, a technique that he thought demonstrated deceit, a tactic that was dishonourable. Perhaps this creature was doing the same.
Still, this one didn't look like one who tended to fight. The demon would have to coax him into combat. For the moment he was to stay his hand, allowing this stranger to take in the scenery and, by extension, the reality of his situation. He had even taken to beginning the act of idle conversation.
The demon wasn't one for talk, unless it was done through fists. But he humoured the zoanthrope with an answer. "My fists yearn for battle," he replied, his gruff, deep voice muting the howling winds and echoing lightly across the plateau. "Perhaps you will satisfy their hunger."

The still nameless man in front of Chai was a man of few words, it seemed. Fight? Oh. Okay then. The zoanthrope's uncomfortable smile never faltered, though. Guardia was a demon also, and he was kinda like this stranger at first... Maybe with a few choice words, he could help yet another murdery demon out again? It was a teensy tinny glimmer of hope, but a shred of it nonetheless. Still, the goatman figured he wouldn't get his hopes up...
"Well, uh, I'll have to pass on that-- sorry. Buuuuut thanks for the offer, sir." The pacifistic farm animal dismissively waved his hand, glancing off to the leasy corpsey part of their surroundings. All the death and suffering around him made Chai very uncomfortable, as evidenced by an occasional shake of his single eye's pupil... It reminded him of his home universe, in the worst way possible. Shaking his head quickly, the zoan dismissed the moimentary flashback of his friends' corpses scattered in front of him. No need to get all depressing now.
The seven-foot softie sucked in a breath, trotting up to the man and plopping himself down on a fallen log nearby. "Besides, there's much better ways to make friends than with fighting, you know." Chai spoke with another timid smile beneath his green bandanna. "I know another, uh, demon like you also! His name's Guardia." The zoanthrope continued his small talk, recalling his partner- a demonic spirit, trapped inside an inanimate blade. Guardia had gained mastery of manipulating his inanimate form, even learning to shift into different tools and weapons. But, still... "I think you two would really click. G is a cool guy-- he loves to fight like you, it seems. But he also loves video games, superhero cartoons, and all sorts of food as well!"
While Guardia and this stranger would probably bond over a good ol' demon brawl, Chai had his own ways of getting to know others. On his own topic of Guardia's love for video games, a quick realization clicked in the goat's mind. Maybe he could satisfy the red-haired demon's battle-lust with a fighting genre video game! It was a foolproof plan where nobody would really get hurt, right? For the first time, a genuine smile formed across the goat's face as he reached into the bag around his wait. "...Oh! I think I have juuuust the thing for you, Mr. Demon Fighter..."
After a little bit of burrowing, Chai's nubby claws wrapped themselves around a handheld system, his own Baotendo Swap. It was the limited edition Serpent Master version, green with Bing's own Serpent School ensigna shining on the back, to celebrate the launch of Serpent Master EX: 2, the very game in question Chai had on him to play. Pulling out the Swap system, Chai quickly removed it's joycons, and set the little monitor on the log. "This is the Baotendo Swap. It's a really rare game system that me and Guardia were dying to get. Even Premier Vi-Poi could just barely get his hands on one!" He remarked in a chipper tune, disregarding the animal corpses still.
"So, uh, I got this new game, Serpent Master EX: Two. It's a fighting game where you play as all sorts of monumental fighters, like the Ex-Queen Zucceta, Captain Nova, and our titular Bing Gan, plus a lot more! I'm still unlocking some of the hidden fighters, though..." He flipped the screen on, with the title screen to the game flashing across. "This "Realigner Red" guy has been a pain to unlock so far... You have to beat the story mode with EVERY character-- can you believe that?!" Numerous models of the playable warriors were displayed at the bottom, or painted beside the title. "So, uh, since I'm kinda weak and can't offer a good fight in real life, maaaaybe we can play this instead?" Chai clasped his hands together with a nervous smile. Hopefully this plan would work...

A slight, crooked snarl formed at the corner of the demon's lips, showing a sharp, jagged fang. This caprine dared to enter the field of death, and so casually refuse to fight? The audacity of it make Sansho growl lowly like a territorial lion. Fitting as the lamb lay before the lion, unaware of what exactly it had stumbled upon. The naivety would be his undoing. Yet, a part of Sansho refrained from lashing out at him as he gazed upon his target. He could feel the doubt, feel the discomfort, that flowed around his form like its own aura. Perhaps he was intimidated. He was right to be.
Small red irises rolled in their sunken sockets as they followed the movements of the zoanthrope, never leaving his sight as the creature moved over to a nearby log like a beast tracking its prey. Once more he spoke, still his tone soft and innocent, but it did very little to deter the demon's mindset. Chai's words did very little to dissuade the hulking demon from his mindset, his goal, his purpose. The demon was not here to make friends—he was never anywhere to make friends—he was here to sate his bloodlust. There was no other reason.
And the mention of another demon did nothing to quell his inner maelstrom for violence. This goat man was conspiring with one, and the thought of it made his blood boil, his adrenaline rush. Large roped hands balled into tight fists, ropes creaking and compressing under the force. Chai was wise to quickly add onto it, if anything than to receive a harsh beating for his companionship with a demon. Sansho was quick to pay attention to his words, for anything pertaining to his ilk deserved it in full. He paused, pondering upon what the zoanthrope had told him. Despite being hard to believe, Sansho was not dismissive of the fact that some demons are like him. His expression loosened, only by a little, as did his fists.
But the demon had become cautious as his acquaintance reached into his bag. He had no lack of experience when it came to opponents reaching for something to try and give them some sort of edge in conflict. His eyes narrowed, and fingers clenched once more. He had expected the zoanthrope to pull out some sort of weapon—dagger, sword, throwing knife, anything of killing intent. But instead he pulled out some sort of device, oblong in shape and two palms long.
Sansho clenched his teeth behind closed, grimaced lips. A pool of rage began to well within his mind. He languished in it at the mere gall of this creature—did he really plan to use this explosive device as a means to seize the initiative? Such a cowardly act only deserved the harshest of pains that only the lords of Hell itself could administer.
He had expected Chai to throw it at him. But he did no such thing. Instead, he held it up as though it was some sort of lost family heirloom, his greatest treasure, the embodiment of his pride and joy. He huffed at the mere mention of "game". Sansho was a warrior, a fighter, the incarnation of war made flesh and bone and muscle; he had no time for childish games.
And yet something about "fighting" piqued his interest. In his mind, this was how the weak would satisfy their own lust for violence. A bulked hand reached out and grabbed the console, his fingers wrapping around its entirety. Perhaps he will humour this creature with this "Baotendo" game.
A thumb pressed against the top of the box, opening it up like he would any other. Suddenly the screen flicked on, almost blinding the demon with its bright light. He grumbled; he knew this was a trick. This was some sort of contraption made to blind his opponent.
But the thought quickly faded from mind as a jingle played from its speakers. Text and images flickered and swayed across the screen. Some sort of cinematic picture played out before his eyes, further cementing his attention. After a moment, the screen faded to black, and then began to show the game's title screen.
"Serpent Master EX… Two!"
The demon paused for a moment. A line of text began to flash slowly at the bottom of the splash screen: "Press Start." The demon's eyes gazed over the top of the console, peering at the zoanthrope in his usual bestial stare. "Demonstrate to me this… "game"."

"Oh kais almighty it actually worked." Chai blinked in surprise, mouth slacked open and eyes wide. He somewhat expected to have his Baotendo Swap smashed like a bug, but nope, the demon was willing to play a round of the game with him, somehow, someway! "Yessssss!" Chai spoke quietly to himself with a quick fist pump, smile and closed eyes. But, victory and redemption for this demonic man was far from achieved. There was still work to be done, and a game to be demonstrated, as Sansho put it.
"Oh, right-- the game." Chai reminded himself, one of his four digits quickly pressing against his controller's start button. Chai got comfortable, lying down on the fallen log and kicking his feet in the air, still trying to ignore the many distracting dead animals. The creen quickly flashed to black before the main menu flickered to life, with several flashy icons and buttons displayed, most of a green hue. The largest one to the left, labeled "Combat Mode", flashed with the goat's cursor hovering over it by default. Beside it was another button, this one labeled "Story Mode", with two more smaller options, "Training" and "Party Mode" beside it. There were several settings off to the side, but Chai ignored those.
"Soooo, we got several modes we can play here." Chai clicked his tongue, moving his cursor over the several options displayed on the screen while the models of the playable fighters interacted on the bottom. "Story mode is where you play through several historical fights, Party is a huge minigame fest, Training is good for practice, and Combat is where you fight against other players." Chai's cursor stopped in the middle, and the goatman just shrugged with a smile and roll of his eyes. "I've been binge-playing story mode, but I like to think that my skills against non-player characters carry over to actual people."
"S-still, some Story missions are co-op, and the boss battles are REALLY cool and hard. I only have to complete a few more character stories, and I'll have completed all of them!" Chai beamed again. "Guardia likes online combat and party mode the most. Though, he can get..." Chai was briefly reminded of one of his partner's many crazy ragequits. "...Competitive."
Whatever option Sansho chose would regardlessly bring the goat and demon duo to the character select screen. Sprited icons of all the fighters would flash, consisting of Nova, Zucceta, Articho, Bing, Habana, Mayze, Ornion, Etoru, and even Vi-Poi, along with several others. Yet, several of the icons at the bottom featured blackened silhouettes, locked out with chains... Who the locked characters were remained a mystery to Chai, as he did his best to avoid spoilers for the game online.
The goat's cursor quickly floated over to Bing's icon. "I'm a Bing main myself, you see. He's... the all around titular fighter." Chai being a Bing main was a little ironic- why that was was something only the otherworldy zoanthrope knew. With a few presses of his remote's buttons, the zoanthrope shifted between several skins of the fighters. Chai's personal favorite skin was the Cyber Serpent one, which gave the Serpent Master a cool looking blue mask thing and saiyan armor, and a metallic arm and jaw. It just looked so gosh darn cool! But, still... "...I dunno what this skin is of, truth be told. Probably for one of the game-exclusive stories or something." Chai shrugged, awaiting to see who Sansho would pick to play as for whatever mode he chose.

The demon had continued to glare at the sitting bestial humanoid. Eyes narrowed and fangs bared at the corners of his mouth as he stood standing, the small console held out in a large hand, waiting for the zoanthrope to get up and respond. Sansho had scarcely given care to Chai's suggestion and his patience was starting to wear thin like ice on top of a frozen pond. His piercing glare filled with bloodlust only helped accent that notion.
Finally the goat took charge, and had gotten the clueless demon from the stagnant title screen. He then laid down on the log, leaving the warrior to his own machinations. For a moment Sansho stood where he was, waiting for something to happen. But it became apparently quickly that he was going to have to control this himself. His left thumb brushed against a series of controls that looked like an addition sign. His thumb pressed against the ends of them, making a soft clicking sound as they pushed in. And just like that, with his motions, the cursor on the screen moved in that direction. With a series of different presses, the cursor danced between the various text-filled labels.
A keen ear kept attentive to the goat's words; if he were to master this game, then learning from one would only prove to be beneficial to his success. His glistening crimson eyes shifted between modes, contemplating his options. Party mode was out of the question, the thought of a game within a game bred contempt for such an idea; he had no need for training, for the best form of training is through a real battle; he had no intention of playing this game with others, with the thought that anyone who wanted to fight him could fight him personally. That left Story Mode. He cared not for the narrative, but desired to prove that a machine could never hope to achieve victory over a true warrior.
His right thumb instinctively tapped the bottom button, with enough force to make the plastic creak. The cursor flashed, before transitioning to the next screen. Vastly different, the screen showed multiple rows of characters, a few he recognized from seeing them from the shadows. So real warriors were characters in this game, he had thought to himself. The revelation got his attention, seeing this as some sort of battle simulation than a game. Only difference was that he wasn't fighting as himself, but had to pick a different person; a proxy, an avatar, so to speak.
He had flicked through the different characters, looking between each one to see which one looked the strongest. Male, female, young, old¬¬—even a kid was a selectable character. The brief scan of him made the demon snort in disgust. He had decided to settle on Zucceta, simply for her looks—A strong-looking female warrior who looked like she was prepared to fight to the death.
Selecting his character, a small jingle played out before transitioning to a 'VS' screen. Then once more into the actual battle.
Zucceta stood on the left side, facing off against her first opponent, Ornion. The demon was able to pick up on what to do quickly, at least with movement; if the directional pad moved the cursor, then surely the same would move the character. Slight taps made Zucceta stutter step forwards, then back, then forwards again. Pressing up made her duck, and down made her duck. Sansho's right thumb made her throw out a punch, and then a kick. It seemed as though he was getting a small hang of it.
But the computer controlled Ornion stood still. Sometimes it would walk backwards, then return back to where it once was. The notion began to irate the red-haired 'gamer'.
"Face me in combat, coward!" he yelled at the console, in thought that it would obey him.
Sure enough, it did. Ornion approached Zucceta from the air, jumping forwards and landing a heavy kick, and then a sweep to knock her down. The demon huffed, not only because this machine was someone competent, but because he discovered something important: you can jump forwards, and, presumably, backwards, too.
The discovery of such movement allowed the demon to close in for an offensive rush. Granted, all he knew to do was standing and aerial neutral punches and kicks, and it had got him somewhat far. But by then, the computer was beginning to read the repetitive attacks, and act accordingly by blocking and punishing those attacks who's frames made them punishable on block. He had even unleashed some sort of whirling axe kick that took off a lot of Zucceta's health.
In no time, the demon was beaten—by a machine, no less. He gritted his teeth. He had been humiliated by a chunk of plastic and metal. He was about ready to crush the damn thing in his grip.
But then something appeared—a continue screen, with a countdown timer.
Sansho grunted. "You fool! You dare to show mercy? To allow me a rematch? Your impudence will be your undoing!" He pressed the start button, returned to the character select screen, and began anew.
"This time, I will show you the true meaning of pain!"

And so began the newbie Serpent Master EX: 2 player's first match against the AI in the Story Mode warmup screen. Chai raised a finger, about to bring up that Guardia had left the computer on the highest difficulty from his last session, but Sansho had already progressed to the battle screen, picking Zucceta to start out with. A good choice for a beginner, Chai figured. Zucceta had a high attack stat, along with average movement speed and hit points, though she was more vulnerable in the defense area. But in the hands of a master, she was one of the most devastating characters in the game with quick, close-ranged combos.
Chai watched with mild amusement as Sansho began to get the hang of the controls, while Chai briefly turned around to burrow in the parcel wrapped around his waist. He had a little tool of his own for the game somewhere in his bag-- but where? Yet, the time Chai's fingers had wrapped around his secret weapon, the game's familiar result screen jingle rang in his drooped ears. "THIS GAME'S WINNER IS..." The match announcer trailed off while the virtual Ornion dropped down, striking a pose. "...ORNION!"
Fading to black, a countdown screen began while Sansho raged on, similar to Guardia whenever he was beaten. "Eheheheh... How about we, uh, team up against this? I can show you what I know about the game, at least." Chai pressed start on his controller, entering the round as Player 2, featuring a blue cursor, contrasting the red one Sansho operated. Finally pulling his hand out from his bag, in the goat's grip was a small figurine of the Earth's very own Kami, Maeve. Complete with all six of her detailed, scaly golden arms and a determined expression, positioned into a fierce battle stance with a large sword in her arms. "This is my Ameeba of Maeve, the current Kami of Earth- these are little figurines you can use to enter fighters that normally aren't playable in the game right off the bat."
Chai tapped the base of the figurine on a small mount poking out of the handheld screen that was set atop the log. With a flash, one of the blackened icons lit up, Maeve's icon and model displayable. "She's actually my tutor in real life! Though... I haven't seen her in awhile, to be honest." Chai paused, biting his lip. "...I wonder what she's doing right now." Oh, if only Chai knew.
The screen flashed again, and Chai and Sansho were taken back to the familiar fight against the Ornion AI- this time with Chai's Maeve avatar. He still preferred to play as Bing, but Maeve was an extremely adept fighter as well, especially with the customizable stats the Ameeba figurines offered. "You can jump, duck, and move about, as you probably know." Chai spoke, exercising through the actions with his demonic proxy, while Ornion shuffled about on the other side of the screen. "Normally, you've got light and heavy attacks accessible off the bat as well- press "B" for a heavy, and "X" for a light." Chai tapped the buttons, with Maeve exercising between a quick punch, and a slower kick- similar to the actions Sansho experimented with Zucceta earlier. "Heavy attacks take longer, but they do more damage- vice versa for the Light attacks. You can mix and match with them to make unique combos!"
"...And then there's the special attacks."
Chai smirked, hopefully gaining his demonic companion's attention. Chai pointed to a small meter below their fighters' HP bars. It was blackened, save for a few bars slipping through it here and there, for measuring... something. "Those are your Ki Points down there- KP for short. The more you deal or take damage, the more KP you get!" With a swifty double tap, Maeve dashed forwards, striking Ornion with her blade before hopping back. The majin superstar tried to strike back, but not before the Maeve proxy flipped in the air to dodge. Now, a little blue could be seen in the base of Maeve's KP bar. "The more KP you have, the stronger the usable special attack is. But once you use a Special, it'll be drained somewhat, depending on what level you use. The "N1" is the most basic that costs the least and does the least damage, then there's "UP2," and "MP3."
Needless to say, the Ornion AI seemed to be thoroughly peeved from Maeve's prior attack. The yellow majin man disappeared from sight before appearing next to Maeve and Zucceta, promptly sending a beam of golden energy their way! "And don't forget to dodge also! You can become invincible for a quick moment while by pressing "L." Chai quickly added on, pressing the controller's top button to allow Maeve to sidestep into the background, dodging the attack. Whether Zucceta followed suit was something only Sansho could follow through with.

Sansho displayed chagrin at the fact that the goat man was going to help him, making this matchup a handicap in their favour. He considered it cowardly, dishonourable, and, more vitally, a smear on his own repute as a warrior. The demon was prideful and stubborn, yet as his thoughts and feelings were like a maelstrom, the acknowledgement that this was all just a game—something to be fun—was all that allowed him to take it in stride, to accept these terms.
Sansho gazed at the screen as the second cursor popped up, and then suddenly flicked over to Maeve. The name rung in his head an extra few beats—Maeve, Maeve, Maeve… and then it had clicked with the warrior. He had been on this planet for many years, and he had heard of this name many times. He had heard rumours and stories and myths aplenty from many, some told that she was a great warrior, some a god… some a powerful demon.
He had a face to go with the name now. Perhaps he would have to seek her out at some point.
The two were taken back to the first round, once more fighting off against Ornion. Ever vigilant and ever learning, Sansho kept his ears in attention to the zoanthrope's words. The more he would learn, the quicker he could be effective in this battle. The goat was good at explaining, he could give him that much, with the demon's crimson eyes shifting and glancing at various parts of the screen as per Chai's notation.
The black bar was empty, filled through taking and dealing damage, and used for special attacks. It was good to know, and so Sansho made his way onto the offensive. With Ornion focusing on Maeve, Zucceta took the approach from the AI's blindside, connecting with a few hits that ended in knocking the majin away. A small piece of the KP bar filled. Sansho was starting to get the hang of this.
Well, that was until their opponent ended up appearing by them, and firing a beam. Chai had good reflexes, able to respond with a dodge. Sansho, on the other hand, was not so much. By the time the zoanthrope had spoken three words, the beam had already struck Zucceta. The damage was considerable but not overly threatening. She was sent flying back a little before landing on her back.
Sansho went to push the buttons to get her to stand back up, instinct telling him that it would work. His large thumb pressed the A and Start buttons together. The game paused, and a menu screen popped up. His eyes glanced at the various texts, with one line being outlined by his cursor. He was about to unpause the game, but something had caught his eye in the menu: 'Command List'.
he tapped the directional pad to highlight this text, and pressed A. The next screen appeared, and within it was a list of words and symbols and annotations—basic attacks, simple combo strings, special attacks, throws, and the like. Slowly he scrolled lists and flicked through tabs. He was beginning to understand how this all worked, all came together. He would have to try some of these out.
The demon unpaused the screen, unaware as to whether his partner was ready or not. Ornion dashed towards Zucceta, seemingly deciding to give Maeve a break and to focus another target. A sliding kick came for the Saiyan, but Sansho was prepared to block it. The attack was choreographed, easily readable, plenty of time to react given—and punishable. Recalling one of the combo strings, Sansho began to bash at the buttons in quick succession. Zucceta laid on a flurry of punches and kicks, several strikes into the majin before ending in a spinning side kick, sending the opponent across the stage.
Now it was time to test the demon's theory. As Ornion began to drift backwards, Sansho inputted a simultaneous button press. In response, Zucceta charged a dark red ball of energy in her hand before releasing it as a stream. The attack, her Warhead technique, collided with Ornion while he was still in mid flight. Weak on its own, to be able to gain advantage after a combo string made the entirety of the offense incredibly strong; 40% of the majin's life was missing from that one combo.
Sansho huffed. Payback had been delivered. "You think your weak attacks have any effect on a true warrior? I am the master of the fist!"

Chai twiddled his thumbs while Sansho examined the combo menus, smiling cheekily all the while. The game finally seemed to be clicking with the demon! After a moment of inspecting the menu, the game was quickly flashed back to the battle, briefly catching Chai off guard. The zoan's proxy Maeve briefly fumbled in the air before landing back on the ground, hanging back while Sansho's Zucceta delivered a devastating combo attack, knocking off a large chunk of Ornion's health.
Yet the battle was still far from over. Maeve's HP was still high, but for how long? "My turn!" Chai quickly chimed, letting Maeve dash towards Ornion, leaping over Zucceta to deck the majin in the face with one of her six arms.
Yet, before Chai could land his next hit on Ornion, the majin disappeared from sight before bareeling down from above, sending a flurry of flashy high-kicks and loopy punches towards Maeve. Chai raised Maeve's guard, her six arms crossing to block the attack. But, alas, the secondary-tiered Special Attack, Ornion's Death By Glamour move, quickly cut through the barrier, sending Maeve flying to the ground, momentarily dazed. Just like that, half of her heath was gone, but so was all of Ornion's KP. "Oh, come on..." Chai mused, shaking his head alongside Maeve when the avatar stepped out of her stunned state.
Chai eyed Maeve's KP bar, softly gasping when he realized it was full! The blue bar blazed with a new fire, flashing white every now and then to signify that it had it's fill of punishment. "Hey, I think I've got an idea." Chai mused, quickly holding down several buttons on his remote. "I'm gonna need you to hold of Ornion for a 'lil bit- gotta charge an attack." Chai's eyes darted back down to his filled KP, a smirk creeping across his face. "Just be careful, the AI gets reaaaall tricky when it's on low HP." Chai smiled, his single eye narrowed. "Think you're up to some one-on-one?"

The demon was beginning to experience something he never thought he would experience playing something as simple and inconsequential as a children's video game: serious competitiveness. The more he played, the more he was getting into it. It was almost as though his own real fighting skills were being tested and judged. He couldn't let something like a machine get the better of him, to outrank him in skill, even if it was just a fabrication.
The zoanthrope was seemingly done with sitting on the sidelines while Sansho had briefly taken the reigns. A single strike was Maeve was all that landed against the AI-controlled Ornion, the majin disappearing and reappearing above her. The attack had cost her much of her health, but had cost the majin all of his Ki Points.
That was all the demon needed. He had kept a keen eye on not just the trio dashing about the battlefield, but also the key interface elements—health, KP, time, and the like. Whenever someone teleported or used a technique, it would cost KP. Now that the majin had nothing of the sort, he would not be able to respond to another barrage.
The demon listened out for Chai, who was giving out tactical advice. Usually Sansho would not heed to such things—his power alone was great enough to deal with most—but this was entirely different.
Accepting the caprine's strategy, he had Zucceta leap up towards Ornion and knock the majin far from Maeve with a strong kick while the majin was still in its recovery frames. Dashing along the ground, Sansho began another series of button presses, catching the AI in a juggle whilst they were still airborne. The string was not as effective as the prior one, but it kept the yellow blob at bay.
As Ornion stood back up, Zucceta stepped up to try and deliver another series of attacks, but now the AI was on the defensive, blocking whatever it could. The demon recalled another command he had noticed while he was scrolling through the Command List. If the computer was going to block everything that he was throwing at it, then he would have to use something unblockable. Double-tapping forward, Sansho got close before tapping two buttons simultaneously. Zucceta reached out with two hands, grabbing the majin for a throw. She punched him in the gut, pushing him off the floor before delivering a double roundhouse kick that sent the majin flying.
The AI had executed a quick getup, pushing itself off the floor and back onto its feet. Sansho was about to dash into the fray once more and begin another series of hits, but by now the AI had resorted to the cheapest tactic it knew: input reading. Ornion struck back with an attack that had higher priority over Zucceta's, knocking her backwards. The majin followed up with a teleport, appearing behind where Zucceta's trajectory was going before smashing her into the ground, resulting in some damage.
"You had best be ready with that technique," the demon called over to the zoanthrope, his eyes shifting towards him.

"Do do, do do do- do do, dododo..." Chai hummed, twiddling his thumbs while Maeve stood in place, charging an attack. "...I'm-a-chargin' my attack~" He hummed, whistling to himself and kicking his legs to and fro to pass the time. Sansho's Zucceta was quick to distance Ornion from Maeve, though the majin was quick to block off most of Zucceta's attacks. Chai opened his mouth, about to pipe in about the classic grapple technique as well, but Sansho was already a step ahead!
After a few grapples and juggles, the AI had enough. Ornion was quick to lash back at Zucceta, knocking the saiyan into the ground. By now, Maeve's aura had reached it's peak, finishing with a crimson aura blazing around her. The demon raised her sword high. Chai just smirked when Sansho asked if he had his technique ready. "Boy, do I." Chai pressed hard on his remote's buttons, resulting in the screen being emblazoned with a reddish hue. Chai had only found out about Maeve's most powerful attack in-game... Who knew how terrifying it was in the real world, though.
Maeve quickly dashed towards Ornion, striking him with her blade, now burning with flame. With a shout, several slashes were dealt to the majin in a split second, chipping down the remainder of the proxy celebrity's health. Everything on the screen quickly flashed, moving slowly as the yellow man's form fell to the ground, unmoving...
"K.O!"
The screen flashed, quickly cutting to the results screen. "THE WINNERS ARE... MAEVE AND ZUCCETA!" The announcer chimed when the two proxy fighters dropped down, confetti drizzling down as several stats of the fight drifted across the side of the screen. Chai smiled, turning back to Sansho. "Heheh... Well, that was fun, eh?" He rang, scratching the back of his head. "Now, if you're down for round two, then--" He turned back to the screen, expression sinking. It was all black now, with a reddened battery symbol flashing in the center. "Ah, crap. Outta battery."
"But, uh... I digress. Maybe we can play again sometime, or have a real spar!" Chai smiled, holding out his hand. "Oh! I never got your name, sir! I'm Chai- Chai Schala, KAOS operative of the Blue Banner Army." The zoanthrope introduced himself, still holding out his hand for a parting handshake. Whether or not Sansho accepted it or gave his own identity in return, though, wouldn't change what the zoan did next much. "I live in the Bamboo Forest near the Baozi River and the Puar Falls- I've got a nice house and a dojo- you can't miss it." He turned around, eyes darting to the skies above before briefly turning to his new friend. "If you ever wanna chat, play some more Serpent Master, or fight sometime, you know where to find me!" Chai floated into the air, letting his ki flare. For a moment, his true power became prominent.
With one last salute, the zoan took off into the skies. Making friends was always nice. ...This world sure was a lot more peaceful than his own. It was hard to believe a situation like this was even possible now.
