I'm not asking for much, as I understand the need to finding balls being a little based on luck. But the instant I heard I can re-roll my own ball, I knew it would be a bit of a problem. Everyone assured me that I would be perfectly fine, as there is a 1/7 chance of rolling the same ball. Guess how many times I rolled my own ball in the course of a month (Including Rev's attempt at a saving roll)...
FIVE TIMES

Now, I have an idea that can prevent my issue from happening again, because I was honestly screwed over. NOW, before you explain gambler's fallacy, I know that I always had a 1/7 chance of re-rolling the same ball again. But, when using overall theoretics, the chances of me getting the same ball FIVE (Including Rev's attempt at a saving roll), the result is an astounding...
1 out of 16,807 chance.
To put in perspective, I have a better chance at finding a shiny in a Pokemon game before X/Y than rolling the same ball FIVE TIMES IN A ROW! Although I'm okay with spending 500z to scan and get a ball and even find a ball I own in my own possession, I spent 1500z scanning for the same ball 3 (4) times in a row.
NOW, here's my idea. I'm not going to ask for an update in which you can't scan balls you already own. I understand the need for such a mechanic as scanning for dragonballs including the ones the character owns, as it enhances the rush and the feeling that you can actually f' up in a big way.
My little idea - Just make it possible that you can't roll the last ball you had. For example, let's use Walker as an example. Walker currently owns the one star and the recently acquired seven star. On the next scan he gets, he would be unable to accidentally refind the 7 star that he JUST acquired, but he could accidentally scan the one star he had before hand, AND the other balls that others own or do not claim.
I am not asking for a complete upheaval, but I am asking for a slight tweak so we don't have a repeat of Accordio and the number five. To end off this suggestion, I will treat you to a little joke project I had with Accordio.
EDIT: When I say roll it 5 times, I'm including the initial roll in where I acquired the dragon ball in the first place.
Since the ball is his only friend while the other stars elude him, he dubbed it Wilson.
