A small grin appeared on Beryl’s face; he figured that Raisu kept asking him questions about the Galactic Patrol because he was ultimately interested in joining. Before, Raisu was doubting that he could ever reach the level of power he was at no matter how much he tried. However, after hearing about the Galactic Patrol and what Beryl did as a part of it and the fact how Beryl went from becoming a total scrub to a god-like powerhouse in merely three years of martial arts, a metaphorical, scorching fire fueled by jealousy and determination was let from underneath Raisu’s ass, propelling the hybrid into action. That fire, that desire -- it was what Beryl wanted in a Galactic Patrolman, and if Raisu continued to push through and seek to constantly improve himself both physically and mentally, Beryl had no doubts that he could be one of the top members of the Galactic Patrol. “We can actually do your interview right now if you want,” Beryl said as he motioned for Raisu to take a seat with him. He even moved the tray of cookies to the center of the table, encouraging the half-Saiyan to take some of the cookies if he wanted. “First off, I want to ask what made you interested all of the sudden,” Beryl said. “Before, you said that no matter how much you tried to train that you couldn’t achieve new levels of power -- with that, the Super Saiyan transformation,” the Zen Master started. “However, now -- I’m noticing something different about you. You’re determined, passionate, and you look ready to act. What changed?” Beryl then proceeded to finish off his snickerdoodle cookie, drank another sip of his tea before reaching for another cookie. “I will say this: you will be expected to train constantly in order to improve your skills and fighting ability. You will have numerous resources available to you to help with that such as a fully functional, state-of-the-art gravity machine, dedicated training facilities and even my own martial arts school where you can receive direct training and instruction from me,” Beryl said. “Even with what you were saying before about how no amount of training has managed to bring you to where you want to be, are you still prepared to train if you are made a member of the Galactic Patrol?” Raisu Hanamura

They were going to do the interview now? Raisu's mind was floored. The halfblood had never done an interview for anything in his life, not even a job in high school. And now he was expected to interview with the elite patrolmen of the galaxy? But as Beryl motioned for him to sit down Raisu knew that he was committed at this point. Swallowing hard, Raisu steeled his nerves and sat down, tail wrapping tight around his waist as he did. Slowly, he leaned forward and folded his hands, placing them on his own table. That's right! Why did he feel so nervous in his own store? It was like the roles were reversed. The man was even motioning for him to take a cookie! Raisu did not, of course. He'd rather not distract himself by nibbling on some kind of sweet. The first question was a question of why Raisu was so interested all of a sudden. He opened his mouth immediately, but paused just as quickly, the words catching in his throat. The Saiyan halfbreed snapped his mouth shut and pursed his lips. How was the best way to say it? The man had a point. Raisu had indeed made a sudden turn around. Raisu let the man continue to speak as he went. If Raisu were to join, he would be expected to continue training. Gravity training, special instruction from Beryl himself, and so on. Training, thought Raisu, now there was something he had given up. But if he was ready to throw himself back into the world, he'd need to train again. Raisu might not have been able to reach Super Saiyan by training, or even get to a level where he could keep up with others, but he could take it up again. As the man finished, Raisu cleared his throat. "I'll start training again," he said with no hesitation. "As for why I'm so interested, I- Well, it's complicated. Here, uh, let me try and explain. The reason I started training so hard in the first place is because the Saiyan invasion struck my hometown, South Capitol. And... Well, I never wanted for that to happen in this world again! Like, I wanted to protect people. And maybe I wanted revenge, too. I don't know."Raisu paused and sighed. The hybrid was not making a very good case for himself. "And, you see, I came to the conclusion I just couldn't make a difference. It's really hard to do that when people can turn into killing machines at the drop of a hat, you know? So, I gave up. But after talking to you, I thought, well, maybe if I tried really hard again, I could actually make a difference. Like, if not here, somewhere out in the galaxy. I just want to help make things right in the world, you know?"Raisu leaned in even further, placing his hands flat on the table, lifting out of his chair. "I just think that, after what you've said, I can still make a difference!"His voice rose and bounced off the walls as he spoke. And then he paused, staring at the man in silence. Beryl Roarke

Beryl listened quietly as Raisu began to explain his reasoning behind his sudden urge to take action. He remembered the Saiyan invasion and the countless lives it took, the unrepairable damages it had caused, and the effects it has had on the people of Earth. South Capitol was one of the main places attacked by the Saiyan Solar Empire, but since then, the city has managed to be even greater and better than it was before. “I can understand your desire to want to do something, Raisu. A lot of the Galactic Patrol applicants from Earth say that the Saiyan invasion has pushed them to help work towards galactic peace,” Beryl explained. “And it makes perfect sense. An tyrannical, warmongering empire that spans the entire galaxy is something straight out of a nightmare, and it is something that the Galactic Patrol will seek to stop.” However, Beryl frowned after saying that. “Unfortunately, given that the Galactic Patrol’s ranks was still mostly made up of fresh recruits, I did not feel comfortable enough sending them into battle. I understand that the planet’s defense is paramount, but it would not help the cause if I sent my allies to certain death.” Afterwards, Beryl raised a hand and waved it slightly. “However, I will make sure that something like the Saiyan Solar Empire will be responded to swiftly and without hesitation in the future.” It was a promise he made to the Galactic Patrol and to himself, and Beryl did not break promises. “But it relieves me to hear that you are willing to continue your training, Raisu,” Beryl said, nodding. “Please trust that I will do everything in my power to help you succeed. You can make a difference here on Earth and in the galaxy as a whole. All you have to do is just apply yourself.” After those words of encouragement, Beryl mulled over several potential questions in his mind for a moment before asking another question. “My next question is this: how do you feel about the current leadership on Earth? Also, what are your current opinions on the Saiyan Solar Empire?” Beryl paused for a moment before speaking. “Oh, another thing. Although I am the leader of the Galactic Patrol, it is my job to serve my Galactic Patrolmen and do anything they need or require of me. If you do become a Galactic Patrolmen, what can I do to make the Galactic Patrol the place you want to be?” Raisu Hanamura

Raisu was not unique in being inspired by the Saiyan invasion of Earth. And Raisu did not expect to be. How many fighters had he met that had found their call to action amid ashes and debris? Far too many. But it was good to know that he would be among like-minded individuals were he to actually make it into the Galactic Patrol. And it was reassuring to hear the leader of the Patrol state that such an invasion would be something they would seek to stop. Now there was a purpose the young halfblood could get behind, stopping such suffering. Raisu nodded eagerly, rapidly bobbing his head up and down with enthusiasm. The man had his reasons for not following through the first time, but damn, it was an inspiring statement. And it was good to know that someone thought he could make a difference, and though it was probably the same old propaganda every potential recruit got, Raisu did not even think of that possibility. He was much too caught up in the moment. And what followed was so many questions. Was this what an interview was like? It was enough to make his head spin. Quickly, Raisu plopped back down in his seat and mulled the questions over, quite visibly thinking. "The leadership on Earth? Uhh," he muttered, "I guess it's alright, all things considered. Though, I guess it's a matter of the next major calamity testing it." That was the truth. To Raisu's knowledge, the government was headed by one Vi Poi, whom Raisu had briefly met during the magical restoration of Namek. Hell, thought Raisu, he had Vi Poi's contact info stored away in that scouter of his. Vi Poi seemed like a nice enough guy, software issues aside. Of course, if glitches happened once, they could happen again. Though, Raisu preferred not to think that way. The next question was about Solar Saiyan Empire, and a sour look crossed Raisu's face as his mouth twisted into a frown. "I don't care for them," spat Raisu, "I might be part Saiyan but I don't think they can ever be forgiven for their actions here on Earth and beyond. In short, fuck 'em."With that, Raisu crossed his arms and began to stew over the next question. What could Beryl do for him? Raisu's grimace lightened just a bit. "Honestly?" Questioned Raisu, "Give us a real purpose that lets us make a real difference. I'm tired of being passive, I'm tired of being somebody stuck on the sidelines. I want to make a real difference. And if you can give us that, I'll be happy."Raisu uncrossed his arms and set to cracking his knuckles. "Put us in the thick of it." Beryl Roarke

The reason why Beryl asked Raisu about his opinion about Earth's current leadership and government was to see if Raisu bothered to keep up with the doings of the government. Many viewed the topic of government and politics with indifference; so long as the planet wasn't exploding or blatant abuses of power weren't happening, people really didn't care about what the government did. However, for the Galactic Patrol, that much was different. Galactic Patrolmen were expected to be up-to-date and aware of any and all policies and government structure on the planets that they patrolled. It was how a Galactic Patrolman made sure to make the right calls whenever they were dealing with both intergalactic and planetary law.
While Beryl didn't comment on Raisu's views of Earth's current government, he did make sure to say something about Raisu's views of the SSE and the things he wanted to get out of the Galactic Patrol. "I can understand why you feel the way you do in regards to the SSE," Beryl said, not even pointing out the hybrid's use of profanity. "What they've done is considered to be atrocious and absolutely unforgivable -- even if the damages the Tree of Might has inflicted has been reversed. Still, there's so many things that people lost, and the SSE is to blame for it. It's very possible that we'll deal with the SSE in the future, but no matter what, I must ask that if you are a Galactic Patrolman, and you are sent towards planet Vegeta or anywhere else that the SSE is stationed, that you continue to remain level-headed and that you make rational decisions. I don't want you or anyone else getting hurt unnecessarily due to rash actions." Beryl paused for a moment and looked off to the side.
"Then again, you won't have to worry about being on the sidelines if you are a member of the Galactic Patrol. I do not intend to side-line any of my fellow Galactic Patrolmen," Beryl reassured before standing up. "Alright. I think that's enough questioning for now. The next step is for me to test your fighting ability. Would you like to do that now? If so, it'd be wise if we found a spot with a little bit more ... room. If that's the case, we can take this to my ship. It's right outside South Capitol."

Raisu stewed it over, the frown on his face returning in full force. So, the man was worried about Raisu being level-headed? It seemed to Raisu that the SSE was where level-headedness went to die, so why should he deal with them in kind. But all Raisu could do was nod, forcefully bobbing his head up and down in understanding. At least he had the promise that he would not be side-lined. Raisu absent-mindedly played with the single braid that fell down his face. "I understand," said Raisu, "Nothing rash if the Saiyan Empire gets involved." The words felt heavy on his tongue, but still they came out. Perhaps unwillingly, but the halfblood would not pursue that line of thought. The topic changed to a matter of trial by combat, and Raisu's heart responded by shifting gears: his pace quickened a little and the blood in his veins felt a little hotter, like someone had dumped hot coals into the pit of his being. The Saiyan tail sprouting from the base of his back twitched and his hand suddenly dropped away from the crimson braid. Black eyes, those of a Saiyan, were now trained on the Galactic Patrolmen. Equal parts anxiety and excitement ran through him like some kind of emotional cocktail: but was Raisu shaken or stirred? "You know, um," said Raisu, his mind churning with the promise of a brawl, "I'd prefer not to do it here. No need for property damage or to start a fight in the middle of a busy city. So, your ship will do fine.Raisu suddenly stood from his seat, tail unfurling and springing out. "But," he interjected, "Can I have a few days to get ready? No! A few hours! I just need time to warm up again! If you don't mind that is."Beryl Roarke

Beryl nodded. "I understand. Fighting here wouldn't be wise. Besides, we have enough people wrecking Earth's cities enough as is." It was an obvious reference to the recent number of attacks on Earth's cityscapes, all caused some way or another by ki-using individuals. A feeling of resentment boiled deep within Beryl's core. Ki users didn't know the extent of the power that they wielded or how fortunate they were that they had the ability to use such an amazing force of nature. Time and time again, they either squandered their talents or used them only to forward themselves without any regard to others; this often included wide amounts of collateral damage, maimings, deaths, destruction, planet busting and any other related atrocity. "It's the curse of gaining more power. Most people lose themselves to it." The comment seemed out-of-place and random, but from the sudden hardening of Beryl's eyes, there was definite relevance behind that statement. His gaze softened once Raisu requested a few hours for him to prepare for the combat exam. "Of course, that's perfectly fine. Whenever you're ready, come to my ship outside of South Capitol. Here, I'll give you my cellphone number so that I can transfer the ship's coordinates to you." Giving the cellphone number wouldn't take long; Beryl assumed that Raisu had some sort of phone anyways. Once Raisu got them digits, Beryl rose from his seat, having finished all of his cookies and tea. He reached within his wallet, pulled out several crisp zeni bills and handed them over. "Those cookies were really good, so was the tea," Beryl complimented. "I'll be sure to remember that whenever I'm deciding if you'd be a good fit in the Galactic Patrol," Beryl joked. "Remember to check your phone so that you know where my ship is. I'll expect you in a few hours, Raisu. It was good to meet you." OOC -- PL please. Raisu Hanamura

Indeed, thought Raisu. The cities of Earth had seen more than enough destruction, especially his beloved hometown of South Capitol. And though he trusted himself and Beryl to know the true extent of their power and the best way to control it, the halfblood was not willing to risk it. Best to play it safe than take the risk of putting anyone or anything in danger. But as Beryl said, people lost themselves, though Raisu found his nerves haunted by the sudden firmness behind that statement. What had Beryl seen? But at least Beryl was willing to give him those few hours of leeway, even going so far as to give him his cellphone number. Raisu nodded, patting his own pocket to look for his phone, but soon realized he must have left it as his desk as the leg of his grey jeans ran flat. Instead, he squinted hard, committing the numbers to memory, nodding to himself as he did. "Gotcha!" Exclaimed Raisu as soon as those digits were burned into his mind, "I'll shoot you a message in a bit so you've got mine!"And as the man retrieved his money from his wallet, Raisu bowed deeply, expressing his gratitude for both the payment and the compliment. "Thank you," said Raisu softly as he chuckled with Beryl's joke, "I try. If you run out of space for patrolmen, at least let me cook for you, yeah!"And as Beryl went to depart, Raisu's head shook up and down like mad, the eagerness taking direct control of his muscles and movements. "Yes, sir!" He exclaimed, "In a few hours it is!"That mix of anxiety and anticipation welled up within him again. So, thought Raisu, this was his first blind step back into the world at large, back into the world of fighting. Cornatto had stoked the dying flames, and Beryl had reignited them in full. The hybrid was drawn to such matters, that mixed blood surging through him drawing him ever closer to the flames of war, a feeling that often left him confused. Raisu liked to fight, it was a primal instinct that was hard to deny. But he lacked that conscious battle-lust of the Saiyan race. He could resist, temper his desires, and his true passion for fighting only arose when the fists were already flying. Caught somewhere between human and Saiyan, the halfblood was only now stepping into the greater galaxy, ushered into a new era of his life by virtue of policing the galaxy. What Raisu now lacked in stark Saiyan impulse was more than made up for by that desire to bring about justice to the wider world. That was if Raisu passed the next test, of course.
Nice thread, Beryl Roarke! I guess we've reached a good stopping point, so I'll make this my own exit. For the graders, I would like zeni with my level 3 shop bonus! Thank you!
