The lights faded, the dust settled, and the whir of battle dissipated into the unsettling calm that always followed when the status quo returned too easily. As if two saiyans hadn't just disturbed this once peaceful mountainside so brazenly. The animals were probably traumatized, Ten couldn't even hear the wildlife anymore. He stood up straight, casually dusting off his clothes, and shaking some strands of hair out of his face without a word. He'd heard the boy scream and instantly his heart felt like it'd been stabbed. He remembered screaming similarly, so many times before, against an opponent who just laughed louder in reply. Were all saiyans like that? Was that what he was going to grow up into? He felt his stomach churn at the thought and let out a hard sigh, shaking his head slowly.
"Like I said from the start...don't run your mouth if you can't back it up."
There'd be no reply.
Ten's face softened, betraying the first flicker of emotion since their short beam struggle began.
"...Kid?"
No answer.
"C-Crap! No...nonononono...don't be dead, dont be dead--"
He rushed over to him and grimaced. His cheek glistened with a fresh tear, his arms damaged from the brunt of the blast, and now he wasn't moving. Quickly he bent over and checked his pulse and let out a giant sigh of relief. 'He's fine...he's just out cold.'
Kenten made a face down at the boy and rubbed the back of his head. Now what? He couldn't just leave him there, especially since it was his fault he ended up like that in the first place. And he knew nothing about him. Not where he lived, not even a last name, and as far as he could tell there was nobody else around.
'I knew it, I KNEW I should've just walked away! Just walk away Ten, just WALK. AWAY. But no. NOOOOO NO NO! I couldn't. And now I'm beating up little kids. Fantastic. Fan friggin tastic.'
"Ugh..." He sat down against a tree near him, quietly folding his arms and leaning up against it. He had to wake up eventually. He'd just...wait for him. He let himself slouch over and rested his cheek in his palm to wait. Even if it took a few hours, he'd make sure the boy was okay at least before he flew back home.
Why did he always get himself into these stupid situations?

It all felt like a dream to Etoru. He came to realization that it was all real. Every. Single. Thing. He sat upright and looked around only to find he was back at his farm. He wasn't hurt a bit either. He looked around but couldn't find ten. He shrugged. "Maybe...he went home...but...why am I not hurt...?" Etoru asked him self. He looked around his grandfathers farm, and then decided to walk in. Everything was quiet. Not even the sound of wildlife could be heard. "Grandpa? Grandpa, are you home?" He called out. Etoru received no answer. He continued down the hall, and into the kitchen where his grandfather usually stays. He was expecting to see a note on the table like always when he's not home. But instead he found nothing.
"Where could he be..." Etoru wondered. Then he heard a cry for help.
"Etoru!!! Help!!!" The voice sounded like...Sheenu!
"Grandpa?!? Grandpa!!" Etoru yelled. He ran outside to where the voice was being heard. What he saw made his jaw drop. It was his father. He was having that nightmare again. Etorin, his father, held Sheenu by his neck and through him at Etoru. Etoru caught his grandfather but when he looked back at Etorin, he saw him charging a gigantic beam.
"You're weak Etoru! Weak!" He began to laugh maniacally.
"N...no! I won't let you!" Etoru yelled. He threw Sheenu as gently as he could aside and charged up a Shenkai beam. "SHENKAI! BEAM!" Etoru yelled out firing it towards his father who quickly fired his. They were in a struggle, but his father wasn't even struggling just laughing. Etoru on the other hand felt like he couldn't take any more of it. His physical body in the real world was shaking, and he was mumbling things like 'n..no..' or 's...stop'.
"Welp! All good things must come to an end right? Except your more...of a failure than any good. Bye son...oh and your grandfather's next." He pushed slightly and the beam would soon devour Etoru. "No!!!" Etoru screamed and everything became a blur. He woke up and on instinct tried to shoot his chest and sit upright but with all the pain he winced and immediately sat back down. "W...what...?" He looked at Ten. "H...how long have I been out...?"

"ZzZzZz..."
His chest rose and fell gently as the crisp evening air gentled tousled messy black banks across his face. Ten was still at his vigil, only slouched over with his mouth gaping open and his free tail flicking lazily at his side every now and then. The sun was far lower in the sky now, its former yellow rays fading to a vermilion not unlike Kenten's final attack. They fanned and stretched far over the countryside as the sky above swam in a soft tide of colors. Orange faded into crimson, which dipped down into violet that nestled just on the edge of the horizon. The first set of straggling stars made their appearance as pinpricks of light in the distance.
("No!!!")
"A-AAAH-!!" Ten jerked up at the scream, smacking the back of his head against the tree trunk. "O-OW! WHAT THE--" He winced and looked at his charge. Surely enough Etoru was awake...and it was much later than before. Now instead of heat kissing his arms it was a bitter breeze nipped at the exposed skin while crickets chirped from all around him. If he had to guess it was around six o'clock.
"Oh...you're awake." Ten yawned and stretched his arms high above his head. "Uhh...I dunno. A couple hours I guess?" He pushed himself up. "Anyways don't...scare me like that, I thought you were dead for a second! I get that you wanna be cool and everything, but you know what's cool? LIVING. LIVING IS COOL." He hissed. The older boy had to make himself stop before he went on a rant. He didn't even know this kid, but his recklessness sent a panic through him. The last thing he wanted was to be murderer...even if it was an accident.
He took a breath to regain his usual air of nonchalance. "My point is..." He started, "Fighting isn't like the superheros and stuff you see on TV. Its not about flashy moves or trying to impress anybody. You gotta be smart. An example--" He pointed at him. "You're shorter than me. In order for me to hit you, I have to punch down. Its an awkward angle that puts me at a disadvantage. And you're smaller than me too, so you're a much smaller target. That means I have to work harder if I wanna hit you, but you dont have to work as hard to hit me. If you had worked that, you might've been able to hit me."
Once again he shook his head. Why was he even bothering to explain this?
"Look at your opponent, see your strengths and their weaknesses, and figure out a way to exploit that. Anyways..." He ran a hand through his hair. "I'm not your dad, so I'm not gonna lecture you. I just stuck around to make sure you're okay. You...are okay right? What was all that screaming about?" He asked.

Etoru noticed that he was out like a light as well, just in better shape. Etoru titled his head in confusion. This guy was reading him wrong. "N-no...that isn't it..." Etoru said weakly. He sort of shivered from the cold air. "I don't fight because I think it's 'cool' and I sure don't have a TV. I live on a farm, I'm not really used to talking to other people other than my grandfather." Etoru tried to get up but winced. "O-ow ow..." He just laid back down on the tree.
Etoru took a quick look around the area, a huge crater was where Etoru was hit. He glanced at the horizon giving a dim light and then back at Ten as he started to explain 'tactics'. "Hold up...no. Nu-uh it isn't that simple. You're faster than me, and stronger than me. And all you really need to do is kick." Etoru exclaimed. "Especially with these weights on." Etoru told Ten. "They really held me back...probably would have been smarter to take them off." Etoru laughed a bit. Then Etoru felt his hand stroke through his hair and had a blank stare. "I don't know what lecture means...and I know you aren't my dad. But yeah I'm fine." Etoru said. Then he received that question about his screaming. "I was...screaming...?" Etoru put his nightmare into perspective and inferred that he was freaking out in reality. Tears began to roll down his cheek.
"Oh...I um...I was having...a nightmare. I-I think...I-I'm too weak. Too weak to beat you...t-too weak to beat my father. I can't stop h-him from killing me and my grandpa." Etoru sniffled every once and a while. From both pain physically, and mentally. Etoru felt comfortable talking to Ten. He felt as if he could trust him with anything, even though he did blast him. Most of his challengers would have just left him there if they beat him but Ten? No. Ten stayed. Ten cared. "Thanks...fo-for not leaving me T-Ten." He let out the best smile he could but it was hard. All that pain wouldn't let him make that 'perfect' smile.

"W-WHAT?! NO TV?! ISN'T THAT ILLEGAL-!?" He shrieked, eyes bugging out of his head. He didn't even want to think about missing his shows. TV was sacred, even more so since he knew all too well the pain of losing it. That was darkest time of his life-- they'd made him go outside. He shuddered at the mere memory of it. Etoru's reply forced him to calm down again. So he was wrong about the kid after all...he was already a lot more mature than Kenten was when he was that age. He was more concerned with cartoons and cool moves than training for real, a mindset that got him yelled at all the time. But he hadn't known those sessions with his dad had an expiration date. If he had...well, there was nothing he could do about it now.
Right now the kid was wincing in pain, and again he felt that pang of guild right in the pit of his stomach and scrunched his face into an apologetic glance, even if he couldn't make himself say the words. He listened, and was both equal parts surprised and confused. "...Uh...I...guess. I'm really not that strong though. At least, I don't think so? I dunno, I don't think about it. Besides my dad you're the only other person I've ever fought." He replied with a shrug. It was true, and now he could see the boy was even more serious than he'd thought; he was even wearing weights.
'...So not just serious, but diciplined too...definitely more than me.'
A sweatdrop fell down the back of his head. He hadn't trained seriously in a long time. Sure there was the occasional scrapping with dummies or sbooting ki blasts over the ocean, but nothing worthwhile. Nothing that made him sweat or really push himself any further. He'd always imagined his mother and grandparent's faces screaming "BAD INFLUENCE" "THUG" "DONT MAKE A SCENE!" "BE NORMAL!" at the top of their voices and stopped himself.
"Honestly...I don't really train. Not since my dad disappeared...it scares my family...." He trailed off. Today something had changed. Just like before all those years ago on the beach, he could just feel it in the air against his skin. Something was going to be different from here on out, he just didn't know what or why yet. But he didn't believe in accidents. There was a reason he'd came across another "saiyan" with a similar past to his own. Hell, the boy even looked something like him.
He turned to look him in the face again and his gaze softened immensely. "Hey...come on, don't cry." He walked over to him. "You did really well. And you've even got weights on! If you'd gone all out, you probably would've beat me. I'm rusty. Really. But you inspired me, you know? To get back in the saddle and start fighting again." He forced himself to smile; the motion was unnatural. He was so used to being a moody smartass he was almost certain he'd forgotten how.
"You'll be fine. You just...need a little polish. A teacher. Maybe that other saiyan can train you up some? You'll be stronger before you know it. It takes time. Just keep at it!" He tried to smile bigger, even as he floundered around desperately running out of encouraging things to say. Kenten hated when people cried in front of him. He never knew what to do so he just started rambling like an idiot. "Or- or you know, I can help if you need it! You're a nice kid, and I dont want you to get murdered, so if you need backup or wanna spar or anything just come find me! I live in Satan City. East district, apartment C. Y-Yeah. Aheheh...heh..."
How long was he going to keep babbling? Mentally he kicked himself.
"S-So uh...yeah. You'll be fine...I didn't...use my full power. Just uh...take it easy...and....yeah!" He finished with an awkward cough. Hopefully that'd make him stop. If not, he was all out of babble.

Etoru was really confused when he freaked out about TV. Sure Etoru begged his grandfather every now and then to buy one but always received a no. Heck, Etoru didn't understand how anyone wouldn't be able to live with out it, it's just a box that shows a visual story. "Um...what's illegal mean...does that mean no TV...cause I only see TVs when I'm in the city...they aren't all that special. I mean I wanted one but my grandpa said no." Etoru shrugged. He squeezed his arms together for warmth, but not too hard as it would give him pain.
When he brought up I did good even with weights Etoru already knew he was trying to make him feel better. Not with rage, but with doubt he shot up from the tree. "No! Even with weights I wouldn't have w-" The pain shot too him and he dropped to the floor. His tiny fists were squeezing against the ground making two miniature craters. "I'm...I'm just not strong enough...when my dad arrives...if I can't beat him...he'll take down my grandpa next...I...I can't let that happen! I just can't!" Etoru never exactly met his dad before, but he's seen one picture of him so he does have a general idea of his appearance. "Sorry about that...and I sort of already have a trainer...although we never exactly trained yet...she just promised me...you know...that girl I was talking about..." Etoru tilted his bed to get a better view of Ten's face. "Anyways...you think you'd be able to um...fly me home...I live near the southern islands in the plains, if you can sense ki just look for my grandfathers, he's the strongest in that area but lets just hope he isn't suppressing his ki..." Etoru laughed a bit at the last part.

He'd never had TV.
For the sake of his own sanity, Kenten chose to not acknowledge that.
Instead he perked up when he mentioned the girl again. "That's right..." He smirked. "You have to tell her about me. And I wanna know all about this 'saiyan' nonsense. Like do we have a language? A leader? Our own planet? Make sure you get all the details ok?" He asked. He wanted to be more energetic, but the day was a long emotional roller-coaster he simply wanted off of. From what he could gather, saiyans were violent and terrible parents and maybe his family was right. Maybe he was far better off just believing Beito died in space three years ago. Maybe he'd be happier, safer, and saner if he chose to leave well enough alone after today. But he wouldn't. He knew he wouldn't as soon as he'd accepted Etoru's challenge. But he'd had enough for today. There was only so much drama he was willing to deal with.
Gently he pat the boy on top of his head. "Don't worry about it. You keep training, and I'm sure you'll be smacking me all around this mountain. For now though, lets get you home."
Without waiting for a real answer, he bent down and scooped him up on his back, waiting until he had a good hold. Then he'd shoot into the air leaving the once peaceful Mount Paozu behind.
"...And when you see your grandfather...you burned yourself trying to make a fire, got it?"
