It was a quiet night within the home where she was staying. She had spent the earlier the part of the day training within the gravity chamber and then she had been tidying up Toma’s home for him as her fellow Z-Fighter had not returned from the Lookout yet. Now in the quiet early evening hours she sat just outside of the home a small fire going in front of her as she reflected back on everything that had happened to her over the past few weeks. Her mind was slow to go backwards as if it did not like it when she travelled back to remember that happy turned worst day of her life.
As the fire snapped and popped before her Ninjin had her legs pulled up to her chest as she stared into the fire. She was trying everything that she could possibly try to keep from letting herself cry and let out the pent up emotions she had built up within her. IT was not for her to show emotion but when alone or with those she trusted. Though now she felt all of her pain and anguish build up and she closed her eyes tightly and queezed them as she felt the tears from the loss of her mother overwhelm the mind of the saiyan. Despite all of her great physical strength and endurance she could not defeat this singular demon that still haunted her.
In her own mind the apparition of her mother hung over her always taunting always wondering why Ninjin had not been able to save her or Kojima. This tore her up as the guilt ate at her. Her mind was so enthralled with this self loathing and hatred that she did not sense others who were approaching her. Keeping her eyes tightly closed the tears rolled on her cheeks the shimmer was on her cheeks and would appear easily evident for any who approached her.

“Bye guys! Thanks for everything! I promise I’ll come back and visit more often!” The now powered-up Toma spoke as he fell off of the Lookout. One might call him crazy for simply allowing himself to fall without flaring up his Ki, but he enjoyed the feeling of free falling safely. He wind rushing past his air, his body relaxing as he headed toward the ground. Of course he was in no real danger, he could stop himself at any time he wished. He fell for quite a while as he made his way towards the Earth once more, thinking about a few things. He was so much stronger now than he was when he had last met his friends. He was roughly three times the strength he had been previously, and in such a short amount of time, too!
As he got closer to the ground, he began to sense something. An energy. A familiar Ki that he knew. But it felt… sad. Like the being who was emanating this power was trapped in a dark abyss, never to come out of it. Like a sea of dispair, on the darkest of nights. He knew that feeling. He had been there before. And he also recognized whom the Ki signature belonged to. His good friend, Ninjin.
He was a bit confused by this. Ninjin was a very strong, very independent woman. He had never seen her flinch or show any sign of weakness in all the time he’d known her. And he had respected her for that. She was shouldering the burden of having to protect the world, where he could not. He had to get stronger, to help support her in that effort. But for now, he thought it might not be best to support her in the physical sense of fighting. But rather, he would be the wall that she could lean on if she needed to rest.
He descended towards the ground a bit faster now, eventually stopping in the air and landing very quietly on his front lawn. And there was Ninjin, curled up in a ball by the fire, crying. He frowned a little bit, as he felt sorry for her. He didn’t know what was causing her feelings to be so dark and sad, but he wanted to help her, much like she had once helped him. He started to walk up to her, eventually placing his hand on her left shoulder as he sat down next to her. “Are you okay, Ninjin?” He spoke in a concerned voice, as he looked to over to her.

The sound of footfalls brought Ninjin back to some form of reality but it was not until the hand was on her shoulder that the half breed snapped back to reality and turned her head to look at the concerned looking Toma. Inwardly she let go of a held breath as she had not been prepared and anyone could of easily snuck up on her and did away with her in this moment. Hearing his voice speak up she blinked and listened to him ask her if she was alright. Raising her hand up she looked at it for a moment before speaking.
“I.. I am not all that good Toma… I have been tortured and have beaten myself up over this. A.. After what happened that pushed me to attain my Super Saiyan state. So much pain and anguish for something that while good is a painful reminder of what happened when I use it.”
Bringing her hand back she loosened her legs and stretched them out before her toward the fire. Her gaze unmoving from it as she blinked away a couple of tears and took several deep breaths calming herself down a little. IT took her a few moments to recover and then she began speaking again.
“Toma I saw them and watched them both die before my eyes and I was helpless to stop it. I literally could not do a thing as I watched them paralyze my best friend and murder the two people closest to me in the entire world. They both died brutally and viciously because of me. Because of the blood I have in my veins. IF you ever wondered how I gained it or managed to attain this power was through watching that before my eyes. My mother and boyfriend both gone in an instant and the despair and anger and hopelessness and weakness I felt in that moment drove me… and yet I do not feel I am worthy for it. All I have done is just be a failure as there are still those stronger than I that will not hesitate to destroy the planet should they wish it to be destroyed…”
She tossed her hand toward the fire and a small pebble flew from her hand into the fire as she clenched her eyes shut again as she felt the sting sting her freshly like a festering wound. Letting out a light cry as she finally just let it go. The feelings of pain came and she brought her hand into the ground causing a slight shudder in the Earth but no outward damage to anything around.

Toma sat down on the ground next to Ninjin as he listened to her explain her story about how she became a Super Saiyan. She had lost not one, but two people who were very close and precious to her. Her mother, and her boyfriend. He had never met either of them, but he could sympathize with how she felt. He understood the pain of loss better than anyone. He let out a sigh as he took his hand off of her shoulder and placed it in his lap, looking up at the darkened sky.
“I understand what that’s like. Losing something, I mean.” He spoke, laying back in the grass, his hands behind his head. “I’m not from Earth. I grew up on another planet called Sylor. I had been sent there as a baby to kill them, but something went wrong. I was raised by them. They made me into who I am now, and I can’t thank those people enough for it.” He spoke, as he continued staring up at the stars that were now beginning to come out.
“I was eighteen when I lost everything. My home was attacked by a band of space pirates who wanted to pillage and plunder the planet for its riches. I tried to stop them, but… I failed. I wasn’t strong enough to defend myself against them, and in the end I was defeated. The last thing I remember is looking up at the full moon, and then… well, I’m sure you can guess what happened next.”
But, Toma didn’t cry. He had done enough crying in his life. He then sat up again, looking over to Ninjin, with a smile on his face now. “I was in the same place you are now. In that dark, lonely place. It’s hard, I know. You think you’ll never move on.” He spoke, before he placed his hand on hers, wrapping his fingers around his hand. “But you’ll move on. Do not dwell on the past. Would your boyfriend or mother want you to beat yourself up over it? I doubt it. Honor their memory by becoming as strong as you can be in order to make sure you never lose anyone again. At least, that’s what I’m trying to do. I… also have a plan to try to restore the planet and home that I lost.”
He really didn’t know what else to say. He could only hope that his words of encouragement could help pull her out of the well she had fallen into, so that she could become the great warrior and defender of Earth she was ment to be.

Ninjin sat there listening to Toma speak. AS he spoke all she did was nod slowly and quietly toward him. She knew full well that what he was saying was true. He had seen just as much heartache. Just as much death and devastation in his days to be able to help her. Heck she had been there at his side when he had made the realization about how those on his planet where killed. That day she was his pillar to lean on and it seemed to her that Toma was returning the favor toward her.
She had never heard the full story as to what had happened on his home planet. The story was heartbreaking as she listened to him speak about it. :: TO know that you did that even though you did not intend to do it. That is such a heavy burden to carry. Much heavier than my own petty despair and pain I feel… :: Thinking to herself as Toma went a little silent as he seemed to be gathering his own thoughts. She hated that she had to bring out these painful memories for him. Instead she had hoped that
“Toma.. I know that this is the same place as you have been.. I.. I just do not know how I helped you get over the small bit that you had with that Oozaru realization. I mean the pain just sits here and when Daiki or other people are around I have to be that Big Bad Ninjin. You know the ass kicker the no nonsense leader of the Turtle School. I hardly get time to just let go of all this anger, pain, and sorrow I feel in my chest.” Speaking up softly she brought her hand to above her heart and clenched it lightly as she sighed. Casting her gaze back to the fire as she watched a log fall over and cause the fire to flare up for a moment.
“Toma you are a good friend to me. I mean with letting me use your home and gravity chamber with nothing asked in return. Letting me help you with the Zenshi. How is it that you are able to maintain such a sunny demeanor despite all of this nastiness we have both witnessed. See I know they would not want me to but yet I see them as I am training. Their eyes looking at me from their dead bodies as if accusing me of not being able to save them because I was to weak in the moment. I mean I had this power just settled underneath the surface but no I had to watch both of them die before my eyes before this fucking power even decided to erupt. I wanted so badly to save them but…” Growling out with frustration Ninjin balled her fist and punched the ground once more. This time however a small indentation in the ground appeared about twice the size of her fist. It was obvious that this ticked her off more than even she would like to admit.

Toma simply sat quietly as she explained her sorrow. How she had questione how he, someone of weaker strength than her, was able to maintain such a sunny demeanor. The truth of the matter was simply that Toma had gotten the time he needed to deal with such an incident. It had been two and a half years since Toma had been forced off his planet, and started making his way towards Earth. A long journey, but one that had been needed for the young Saiyan.
She then spoke about how she needed time to get all the anger and frustration and sorrow she felt out and off her chest. Toma could understand that. As strong as these two warriors were, there were just some things that training and fighting wouldn’t resolve, and this was one of them. “Yes, I understand, to a degree. I can’t let myself falter when I’m leading the Z-Fighters. If I falter… I’m afraid of what might happen when danger shows up.”
He then moved his hand from Ninjins as she spoke about how he was a good friend, and how he had helped her out so much while asking nothing in return. He didn’t really think of it that way. He thought of it as letting them get stronger as fast as they could, so they could defend the world when the danger arose. In his mind, that security in and of itself was all the repayment he needed.
She then went on to speak about how she felt that the souls of her loved ones blamed her, hated her, for being unable to save her. That wasn’t true. He knew that if someone cared for her, loved her, they wouldn’t blame her for their death. But perhaps, it was time that Toma tell Ninjin a secret. A secret that he had been told to not tell to anyone without good reason. The same secret that had refilled his heart with hope, where dispair had settled in.
The secret of the Dragon Balls.
“Ninjin… let me tell you something.” He spoke, as he moved his hand to Ninjins cheek, to turn her head to face him. “You remember Scargot, right? The Kami of the planet? Well, he created something. Well, several things, really. Seven magical artifacts called Dragon Balls. When gathered together, they grant any wish. I like to think that’s his gift to the world. And I do mean any wish, even bringing back the dead. If you truly feel guilty and feel like it’s your fault that your loved ones perished, then help me gather the dragon balls to we can restore the ones we’ve lost. That is the thought that keeps me going, anyways.”

Ninjin listened to him speak about what would happen should he falter in his leading of the Z-Fighters. It made her think for a moment before she blurted something out without thinking about it and how it sounded. “I will be there beside you to get your ass off the ground and dust it off so that you are ready to fight once more. I.. would expect you to do the same for me. If I should falter or doubt myself…”
Trailing off she sighed and lowered her head as she realized the hipocracy of her words. Here she was trying to act all big and tough when she herself was beating herself down. IT was something that even she could so evidently and easily see and she was sick that she had spoken as such without thinking. Toma’s doubt about what he might do if he had faltered she figured had to be why it was that she spoke up without really thinking. Her own self doubt was so apparent that she was ashamed of it. Someone who claimed to be one of if not the greatest fighter on the planet now reduced to just how she was in the moment. She was feeling at her lowest point as she heard him begin speaking about some secret. Though she felt his hand touch her cheek and turn her face to look at him for the first time.
Her tired and tear filled eyes looked directly at him as he began to speak once more about some grand object that was created by Scargot. The sheer thought of something known as the Dragonballs that could grant any wish. Even to bring the dead back to life. This was something she had never even thought about. That such an object or objects could exist and had this type of power. It kind of boggled her mind. “I.. do not know if I could do that. My mother was already dieing of an untreatable disease. At the time of her death she had just received the terminal diagnosis just a short time before. IT was why I was there in the first place. The others showed up to surprise me…”
Sighing once more she moved herself and leaned her head against his shoulder. Her red hair masking her face as she took several deep breaths. Ninjin was thankful that it was Toma there this evening to listen to her. To her he had always seemed so level headed and understanding. At least he was much more than her student who would be tightly hugging and fawning over her by this point. Instead she was enjoying the cool demeanor that Toma was exuding as it was calming her down and relaxing her more than even she anticipated.

As Ninjin leaned up against Toma, he slid an arm around her waist to make sure she stayed there and didn’t fell over or anything. It was also another attempt at comforting her. Physical contact usually made people feel better if they were down, or so Toma had learned. She spoke about if she was unsure about if she could bring her mother back, only to have her die again from another illness. He brought his free hand up to his chin in thought about this for a few moments.
“Well, wouldn’t it be a simple matter to simply as the dragon balls to wish your mothers illness away if she was alive? Of course, I’m not sure if the Dragon Balls can only grant one wish at a time… if they can grant more than one, I’m sure it’d be a simple matter to wish your mother back, then wish her to be well again, wouldn’t it?” He spoke, as he held her. He really wasn’t sure of what to say.
“You asked me of how I’m able to keep up my sunny demeanor, right? It’s not easy. Unlike you, I’ve had time to deal with my demons and to strengthen my resolve. And… I had friends that I went to. You, Milac, Scargot, Pieter… You all helped me out. The pain never really goes away, not truly, but I promise, it gets easier. You learn to cope and deal with it.” He spoke, as his other hand then slid around Ninjin, now hugging her with both arms. “I promise, I’ll help you out if this dark sea you’ve fallen into. I’m here for you, whenever you need me, alright?” He spoke as he looked down at her, his eyes softening some, with a small smile on his face.

She didn’t even flinch as Toma raised his hand to his chin. Ninjin was just happy that she had someone there to comfort her as Amalia her friend who would normally do this for her was till laid up within South City’s main hospital. Her breathing calmed as she finally closed her eyes and found herself snuggling in tight to Toma as she listened to him speaking up. “I.. would not want to bring her back only to live in pain Toma. If there was not two wishes and the ability to cure her was not there then I would never even think about doing it. I love my mother and I miss her dearly just… she died before she was in too much more pain. What my uncle did to her was nothing compared to what the illness was going to do to her…”
Speaking back in retort to Toma’s suggestion her words would come off as a little harsh and yet cold. Though inside of them all she had a tone of understanding as if she had begun to prepare herself for this but never actually knew it was going to happen as suddenly as it did. Then came his explanation as to how it was that he managed to keep his sunny demeanor and the like. She knew it would have to deal with something like that. Everyone she had spoken with said that it was time that would be the biggest factor that would allow her to heal. This was something that she wished was faked but she knew it to be true as the sharpness of the wounds in her heart and mind where slowly starting to lose their barbs as time passed if ever only slightly.
The feeling of the hug around her body made her feel comfortable and secure for the first time in a very long time. She turned her face toward Toma and listened to him speak about him going to be there to pull her up out of the sea of despair she had fallen into. This brought the Turtle Masters smile back to her face. Looking up at him she felt herself hesitate for a moment as she mulled something over inside of her head. Nodding to him to acknowledge his words she felt her breath catch in her throat. “Y..Yes… thank you Toma for being here.. and for extending the offer for me… I am appreciative for all of this…”
Settling her mind she closed her eyes and moved up and planted a kiss upon his lips with a sudden and quickened pace before pulling back from him. Her smie was genuine as she smiled at him and awaited his response to the sudden course of actions.

Toma nodded to Ninjin as she thanked him. It wasn’t really anything he expected to be thanked for, really. The way he saw it, he was just doing something any good friend would do. But then, she closed her eyes. And got really close. Toma began to blush a bit, his heart pounding harder and harder as she inched closer. She pressed her body to his, as she kissed him, and his face turned as red as a Tomato. This had been his first kiss, and it certainly wasn’t when he expected it to be.
When she pulled away, Toma’s face was stunned. He didn’t know what to say. “Bu- Yo- Me- We- Kiss- what?” Toma stammered out over himself as he looked at her. He let out a cough before looking away, bringing a fist up to his lips, regaining his composure. “Uhh… sorry about that. It’s just… that was my first kiss is all.” He spoke, before smiling and turning back to her. “It just took me by surprise, is all.” He said, before letting out a nervous laugh.
After that, Toma kind of just… layed there. He really didn’t know what to do. Should he return her kiss? Should they go inside? He was so confused about what had just happened! Sure, he liked Ninjin, and yes he had entertained the thoughts of getting intimate with her in some cases as most men would, but he had always considered them that, simple scenarios that wouldn’t happen. But now here she was, in his arms, having just kissed him! And now that this moment was here, he had no idea what to do! “So… uh… what now?”

Ninjin chuckled lightly as she noticed him change colors and lose his composure. She had not expected this reaction something as simple as a kiss. If she had known that this was going to be his reaction she might have to do it much more in the future. :: You know he looks rather cute when he is flustered like this. I do not think I should continue to fluster someone who… ::
Her thoughts trailed off as she heard him mention that she was his first. Which to her seemed odd as Toma was quite a decent looking man from her perspective and he surely would have had a girlfriend or two over the years. Hearing him nervously laugh made her come back to reality and she smiled at him. Leaning into the man as she let out a rather contented sounding sigh from her lips. When she heard him whisper what now she just smiled as she moved and draped an arm over Toma. Taking a few moments to think she spoke up. “Well how about we lay out here for a little while and watch the stars. Then… if your lucky maybe I can help you with a few more firsts for you this evening.”
She smiled widely as she actually moved in closer to him as she felt the comfort of being right there in that moment. Sure she was being at her most vulnerable and was showing the soft side of the usually tough to handle Turtle Hermit but she no longer cared. This was someone that she could just be herself around and that was fine enough for her.

Toma nodded and continued to hold Ninjin against him as she spoke about laying back and watching the stars. He thought that sounded like a great idea. “I think thats a good idea.” Toma agreed, beginning to lay back, pulling Ninjin down with him, his tail sliding out from behind him to wrap around the female. “Wait, more firsts for me? What do you mean by- Ooohhh…” Toma spoke, his cheeks beginning to turn a bit red again at the thought.
He looked up at the stars, before raising his hand and pointing up towards an orange dot in the sky. It was very dim, as the planet was very, very far away. But It was still noticable if one were looking for it. “You see that star, right there? That’s where I’m from. That’s not the planet of course, but that’s the star systems sun. I remember reading about it in my space pod right before getting to Earth.”
He enjoyed this. The fact that he was relaxing with a friend in his arms. Not just any friend, however. A beautiful woman who was, apparently, attracted to him in more ways than one. There was a part of him that took pride in the fact that he had won her over in a way, even if he hadn’t meant to, and even if it was only for one night. He wasn’t quite sure how this would go. Toma had never kissed anyone before, since he grew up on a planet full of beings of such a different biology that he had never felt sexually attracted to them before. Sure, he had had crushes on some women of that planet, but he had never done the physical side of things before. He was much more experienced in the emotional side of that kind of thing, rather than physical.

As the realization sunk in on Toma she just smiled at him. Ninjin always enjoyed being a tease toward a lot of people but she only would push the teasing a little farther when she actually may of cared for. Turning her head down she looked at the tail as she saw it move and curl around her. This made her smirk as she just remained settled beside Toma. She had not expected things to be as comforting as they were at this moment but she was not going to argue with the good feelings she had right at this moment.
Following his hand as he raised it she narrowed her eyes and spotted the very faint orange light that he was mentioning that was where his home planet had been located around. The soft blinking glow of the star cause of the distance and atmosphere made her inwardly smile. “Of course that is not the planet ya nut. I know enough to know that is the start from which the planet orbits… But have you ever thought about heading back there? Go and see what the planet looks like right now? Or would it be as it is for me when I head to the small memorial I made for my mother and Kojima.”
As she spoke she had a large smile on her face yet her eyes would shine with the sadness that the thought brought to her mind. She sighed once more as she brought her hand and rested it palm down on his chest as she looked up at the sky. “Toma do you ever just wonder why it is we are down here? I know that I have. Especially after the events in West City with the Blue Banner Army. I watched the soldiers and there where two distinct groups. One set of their soldiers were doing what they where ordered to do. That was to protect the civilians yet there was a rogue element. An element I felt through my ki senses that went about the city. Wantonly killing the civilian and soldiers alike. I wanted to head out and stop them but I would have been killed if I had done so. As Reikiko had let me leave with the notion I do not return nor stop any of the BBA forces… I felt so helpless so I began to wonder why it was I was here.”

“I have thought about returning back there. But, at the moment, there is nothing. It’s a baren, empty land scarred by the Oozaru attack I had done on it. If I am to return to that world, it will be after I have restored it to it’s former glory and wished the populace back to life with the Dragon Balls.” He spoke, as he continued to look at the stars. There was a pain in his heart. An emptiness, a sadness for not returning home. He assumed this feeling was homesickness, but he knew it’d only get worse if he were to return home with nobody there to greet him.
After a few more moments, Ninjin asked about what Toma’s opinion on what they were here for was. He merely shrugged his shoulders at this, as he continued to stare up at the sky. “Truth be told? I don’t know. I’ve never really been a big believer in grand destinies or fate. I believe one's life is what they make of it. The Saiyans had sent me to Sylor to destroy the planet and “prove myself”, but I didn’t do that, now did I? I don’t know what happened to “reset” my saiyan instincts, but I’m glad it happened. I am who I am now because of that.” He spoke, thinking back to the events of West City.
“Yes, I remember that. I apologize for not having been there myself. Truth be told, I was scared. I was far weaker back then than I am now, but I also knew of the Dragon Balls. You and Daiki were there, I was able to sense your energies. There was also Athren, and Reikiko. Athren was the golden warrior you had seen. He was a friend of mine. But, back to my point. The main reason I didn’t go to West City, was because I was afraid that you and Daiki might not have made it out. I wanted to stay back and gather the Dragon Balls if that happened, so that I might wish the two of you back so that your deaths wouldn’t have been in vain.”

“Even though it is scarred Toma it does not mean it is not home. It will always be your home no matter how it changes. No matter what has been done to it I would not mind seeing it. Such a place that raised a good man like you cannot be a bad place to go and visit.” A smile cracked across her face as she spoke about his home hoping to perk him up a little as right now he was her rock to lean upon for stability. Giving him a hug she let out another sigh as she hated to make others feel bad. This was a fault of hers that so long as she was not angered she was going to never hurt someone she cared for. She began to feel butterflies grow in her stomach as he began to talk about the events in West City. It was something that she had not expected. Someone to be there to be ready just in case something catastrophic occurring and to have a plan ready to subvert it. Closing her eyes as he spoke she hugged him a little tighter than normal. “I.. am thankful that you where thinking of us Toma. To know that someone had my back even though not directly is a good thing to know.”
Leaning up she placed a quick kiss upon his cheek as she nuzzled into the saiyan male. Lifting her head to look up at the fire that was slowly dieing before them. The pop of the fire as the last log collapsed down onto the coals snapped her back to reality. A smile crossed her lips as she looked at him and slipped from his grasp. “I am going to head inside and wash off this dirt. I am hoping that it is not a lonely shower.”
She smiled at him as she winked at him and slipped into Toma’s house. The hope was that this was the start of something good for her. Something that she was certain to not end in heartache.
