A mix of things came through her mind as the two continued to talk across the vast cosmos directly to her mind. It was almost ridiculous to think about how this was possible. She could barely fathom it, seeing as she could hardly sense someone on the same planet she was on, much less sense a power across the stars. But these two, or at least Alaistair, could pinpoint her, and carry a casual conversation telepathically as if it were nothing. Truly this was a modern miracle. At least, it seemed as much to Vennel.
Still, as Alaistair first began talking about Kizuki and Xylo, he paused after sliding in one slight against Kizuki. And while yes, he acted brashly, she could see where he was coming from. He had more of a past with the devil than she did, and thusly there was baggage associated with it. Still, after he finished speaking, there was a short pause, no doubt they were conferring in person or privately about one thing or another, so she took this time first to reply to Alaistair.
They did speak, Xylo had attempted to sway Kizuki into helping him, but Kizuki decided against it. He wishes to protect the saiyan people above all else, and it’s one of his most admirable traits. That is why he stands with me against Xylo, not so much interested in where my butt ends up, much less the throne. We met on Vegeta and caught up, but since then he has gone silent. I attribute this to the wounds he arrived with, and I fear that he may be more infirmed than he let on.
[OOC: I’m bullshitting because he’s had life issues preventing him from posting in a while and has said he won’t be able to really do anything for quite some time later, but time tables are forcing me to have to move sooner than expected, unfortunately leaving him out of it]
But it wasn’t long until Plato began speaking, no doubt having met some sort of resolution about one thing or another. Most notably about the question she posed. He began, in very typical Plato fashion, to expound in great detail about how he still was hounding after the truth about the saiyan presence quite some time ago on the world. But he seemed to have moved his blame, to the one who headed the old regime, Zucceta. Which was understandable. She nodded, even though she realized shortly there after that visual cues would be lost on them, given they couldn’t see her reactions.
Whats more, she was able to learn that Plato had actually met with Shemha recently, which was quite peculiar to the newly minted general. She wasn’t aware that the commander had made the trip to Konats, no doubt trying to ascertain Vennel’s purpose there. That may have also explained the purpose behind the strange looks and vibe she got from the crimson majin when she met with her and the Queen earlier that day. In addition, she also learned she was correct, that Xylo ahd come there, and thankfully, if their words could be trusted, they weren’t too keen about the manner in which he had.
Once he’d wrapped up, he made mention that if he helped, he’d want answers, and payment for his mercenary work, which brought an audible chuckle out of her, as she couldn’t help but think about how this mirrored her own work on Konats before.
I don’t know about paid work. I don’t have access to the coffers of the Empire, and my own funds are quite tight at the moment as well. But your assessment of the Mazoku seems to line up with what I’ve gathered from everyone I’ve spoken to, as well as from his movements. Kizuki was very much under a similar deal, where he is not a member of the empire, and nor would either of you need to be. The situation I have, and am bringing before you is thusly: In less than a week, I will be going to Arcose with Kaza, to capture the world while the Mazoku leader’s eyes are on capturing Beppa. Meanwhile, I have two other strike teams, heading to other Mazoku controlled planets. This three pronged attack will force him to split his forces, and meet failure on most of them.
Before she continued on, she took a deep, superfluous breath, as though she were actually speaking. Of course, mentally, it would just seem and sound as though she took a long, dramatic pause. She was hardly used to this whole seamless mental communication thing, especially while maintaining her mental shield.
And I hope you take no offense Plato, but I was hoping Alaistair might come with me, rather than yourself. Mostly because of our contract, and my inability to pay you adequately. Though rest assured, in either regard, I would help you find the answers you seek. However, I believe you’re right, that Zucceta is either to blame, or some other force was. During her reign, she held a very loose grip on her army. She'd simply throw her numbers around and hoped things would sort themselves out. She had the strategical precision of using a hammer to remedy a toothache. And if Alaistair came, it wouldn’t jeopardize Konats’ standing, you could claim to have had no part in it, in case Xylo wins the day and does more harm to your world. Plus, if Xylo were to feel a former ally of his, he’d be more likely to come for me and my squad. Allowing me to better control the flow of things. Even should I fail in my mission, the other missions will succeed and Xylo would have to try all the harder to recoup his losses.
She swallowed hard, her body temperature seemed to be rising. She wasn’t aware of how much stronger Alaistair had gotten, if at all. He didn’t seem one for training as much as he was finances and politics. Despite that, the devil still boasted an impressive power, and that was something she hoped would be enough.
I know I’m asking a lot, but if you accept, Alaistair, you won’t need to come to Imperial space, or even risk exposing yourself to the Empire. And when the day is done, or should I fall, I expect you to do what it takes to survive, whatever that may be. And Plato, if you still wish to help, despite everything, the best thing you can probably do at this junction, is maintain plausible deniability through this all.
She hoped not to have upset the Konatsian, as she’d legitimately prefer he not go. His presence would complicate the plan she’d orchestrated more than anything. If he revealed his hand to Xylo, that is, that he wasn’t going to maintain whatever agreement they had, then all the three of them worked for on Konats would be for naught. And Xylo no doubt would come for Alaistair anyways, meaning everyone stood to lose. At least with the plan she proposed, something could be salvaged. And she hoped that the two of them could see what she was saying, and the merits to it.
