[ Thread PL: 78,483] [ UT] Liquid Ki - Mist Active! Ki suppressed to 10000] [ Maeve Rakshasa ]
It was quite late at night, the holy grounds of the Timeless Lookout remained as quiet and still as it rightfully should be. There was no massive meeting of ludicrously strong warriors that gathered the power to reshape the universe, nor the emergence of a brand new life. There was naught but simple silence. This did not however, by any means ensure that all was peaceful. For one of the Lookout’s occupants, Defrosch, found himself in a state of internal turmoil. Finding himself several hallways down from the Pendulum Room, beyond one of the many mystical doors he had entered a place known as the Reflection Room. In this room, one could look into any of the present mirrors, and within them; meet somewhat alternate selves. Like the Pendulum Room, the Reflection Room had its own safety measures. The intricacies of it were unclear, but it for sure had something to do with the mind of the person that entered rather than actually tearing a hole in multiple realities. Having discovered it while reading through some books some time ago, Defrosch had only recently begun properly investigating it since he had more free time. At first, it was quite the interesting endeavour, seeing the alternate paths his decisions could have taken him on. One such decision lead him into joining the Blue Banner Army; having missed Bing’s mass telepathic message about the Saiyan Invasion. He wasn’t all too different in terms of personality, but instead of getting into mystical arts, he became something of an inventor, building various neat machines. Another reflection depicted the Arcosian joining Walker and the Wild Hunt a while after the arboreal bio-golem attempted to blast Vegeta into smithereens; here, the Arcosian would delegate himself to helping Walker understand people’s emotions better… Sure enough it wasn’t easy, but that version of himself said he was trying. Additionally, there was a rather annoyingly flippant version of himself that spoke in cryptic riddles and half-truths; so much so that it was unclear if the halo above him was real or not. There was talk of androids having ‘pointless playtime’ somewhere, but that was pretty much it. Beyond those three, there were slightly minor alterations, nothing too far out there… Except for one last reflection... It was vicious beyond reproach, perhaps vile in every single way the true Defrosch thought possible. Without warning, every time Defrosch visited this reflection, it would attack and brutally beat him into the dirt, chastising him for being pathetic and weak. That vision of an Arcosian... No, that was a vision of a savage monster that is merely an Arcosian in shape… His shape. Defrosch found himself shaking at the very thought of it. After continually getting his ass kicked by this apparition, he threw a tarp over the mirror so that he wouldn’t even have to look at it again. Yet even still, the sting of defeat ailed him whenever he walked past it. Why wasn’t he stronger? What was he waiting for? Was this it? The limit of his potential? Defrosch couldn't help but wonder. So there he stood, staring at the concealed mirror that contained his greatest enemy so far; himself. His hand slowly reached towards the tarp, his hand recoiled and he looked down to the floor behind him, ashamed. "Tch... What am I even doing?" Without so much as a second glance, he left the Reflection room and made his way to the topside of the Lookout. After reaching the center of it, he looked up to the stars for a moment. 'If I don’t get any stronger… Then how will I keep the sky the way it is right now?' Lost to his own thoughts, he brought out the Kami’s Emblem that he received from Bing several months ago and held it up to the sky. 'Why did he bother giving me this?'With a dejected sigh the Arcosian simply sat down and watched the stars above...

"Can't sleep?"
A soft tone, not unlike the wind hitting a chime, danced through the darkness to reach the arcosian. The barely audible clicks of claws grazing against the ivory tile signaled the approach of the lookout's guardian: Maeve Rakshasa. The recently christened Kami and Mother was wearing a comfortable silken robe of gold and white that was specially made to support her extra appendages. The sleeping garment hung on her form loosely, but even so one could see the slight 'pudge' of baby weight that rest on her stomach and hips was still somewhat noticeable as a sign of her all too recent ordeal. Her styled mohawk remained flared up as it always was, though the braids holding back the tangle of ruby locks was left undone causing her long hair to spread out in a sea of spikes. The ensemble was completed by the required pair of bags beneath the eyes of all new parents.
"That's okay...I can't either."
The dragoness said with a smile as she produced a steaming kettle and two empty cups. Without asking, she would dispense some of the boiling liquid into one cup before handing it to the young man. Without even thinking, she would pull her own cup with another hand while she used her remaining arms to steady her descent as she took a seat beside the troubled soul. She let out a gentle sigh as she followed the Arcosian's gaze to stare up to the shimmering sky.
"Though, in the face of such beauty. I can't rightly blame you..."
She let the naturally sweet aroma rising from her cup tease her nose before she took a small sip of the tea and once more let out a soft sigh. "...It's funny though. I try and try to get little Ember to sleep, and yet... When she finally does I become restless in her stead." She remarked, looking down to her cup for a moment. Her eyes seemed content, but a tug of concern had creased her brow.

The Arcosian's posture suddenly became rigid, he drew a quick breath before relaxing. He was out of focus. Damn it all! The arrival of Maeve; while unexpected, wasn't unwelcome. Defrosch honestly thought that she would've been out like a light by now but it seems that wasn't the case. As for sleeping himself? "No, I... Not really." He hadn't found himself able to properly rest for a while now.
It would be increasingly clear enough to Maeve however; that Defrosch wasn't transfixed by the ambiance of the world around and above him. "I was always fond of the night sky when I was a wee one, you can pin that on..." His voice trailed off, something was odd about it-- broken even-- and tired beyond physical exhaustion... He was about to mention someone, someone very important by the looks of things, so why didn't he? "..." The Arcosian made no move to decline the tea, nor accept it, the cup simply came to be in his hand just as Maeve made it so. The Kami's emblem that he had received from Bing would simply lay there in front of him on the pearly white tiles.
For a moment Defrosch would stare unblinking at the sacred token before looking back to Maeve. Ember was indeed quite the handful so far, and would surely only continue to be so in the future. Such was the odd blessing of being a very powerful child. "I think you become restless because you want to make sure nothing bad happens to her while she is asleep, that's all." He offered a weak yet still caring smile, as if fighting what was getting him down out of courtesy. That didn't however change how blunt and bizarrely instinctual such a statement was...

Maeve smiled softly before bringing the cup to her lips and taking a slow sip. The warm herbal mixture slid down her throat causing her to let out a dainty exhale as she dipped the cup down so she may take a breath. "Did I ever mention... How my mother handled me as a whelp?" She asked, solely to preface her story. "You wouldn't guess it from knowing her, but my mother absolutely coddled me." She gave a laugh as she thought of it. "She was just like my father in that regard. I was a runt but she doted on me, I was just as much her little girl as I was my father's... Some of my earliest memories are of her holding me close as we both drifted to sleep." She looked down, her eyes misting slightly as she imagined the cold and hard woman she became.
"I imagine it must be inherited instincts and my own tenderness that keeps me stirring with concern." She concluded as she set her cup down. "Concern toward my beloved Ember of course..." She scooped up the emblem suddenly, taking a moment to rub her thumb over the Kanji. "...Mixed with concern for my dear friend." She looked up to Defrosch, a little frown gracing her lips as she stared at him.
"I don't need my Serene mind to tell me something is amiss with you Defrosch." She said plainly. "Let's talk."

Having nothing to add or do for the moment besides silently drink the tea that was offered, Defrosch's thoughts wandered as Maeve spoke. The Arcosian hero recalled many instances in which his own mother did much the same thing. He was her youngest; the baby of the family, and though he was older now and could take care of himself she still doted on him. His father Sleete, of course, wasn't much like that. He was a ludicrously stern and harsh man that pushed his soldiers to their limits and expected much more of his three boys, which was why he trained them far more vigorously. It was all so they could one day break the mold, to become strong in their own way. Deep down in Defrosch's heart he knew that, as well as another truth... One he found himself not wanting to admit it. As rough as he was, even his father Sleete would tear the universe apart to get to someone that dared to harm his family. "Y'know its funny, Maeve. If I didn't know better I'd think you were talking about me." His weak smile was still present, continuing the fight against what he tried to hide. Defrosch took one final sip of his tea, setting the cup down in front of him. Maeve was right; she didn't need her Serene Mind to see what was sitting right next to her. A lost hero.
A broken man. A grieving son. "I see. Then you don't need your Serene Mind to tell you the creature sitting next to you is a weak, pathetic failure. It's just some bench-warmer fighter from outer space that wants to play earthling. Born one of the most naturally gifted species in the galaxy and what does it have to show that? Nothing. Any gifts it once had; squandered... Pointless, lost potential." Defrosch sighed, head lowered. He couldn't cry for there were no tears left. His eyes were empty, lacking in all things that made him who he was. "My mother was killed, Maeve. I felt her ki disappear. She is dead, because I wasn't fast enough to reach her." Wahey, references to other threads.

"..."
Maeve sat there for a moment, with her head hung low. Her expression was muted and hard to read. Ever since her fission she found her wildly uncontrolled emotions and chaotic impulses gone entirely. Yet, as a side effect, she had found that in her tranquility she had a harder time expressing herself. In this moment specifically she struggled with that. How could one even respond to what was presented? This man was her unlikely friend from worlds apart. Hell, he was probably her best friend when all was said and done. They had been through so much yet at this single moment she felt powerless. Even with all her enlightenment and knowledge as Kami she couldn't even form a sentence of comfort.
...Her best friend was crumbling into nothing before her eyes and she was just sitting there.
She was just letting it happen.
"Defrosch." She finally spoke in a nearly inaudible tone.
Before anything else was said she would embrace the arcosian. All six of her arms locked around him and held him tight as if she were trying to physically keep him from breaking apart. "D-Defrosch..." She struggled to repeat as her eyes welled up with tears. Seeing him so raw and vulnerable was breaking her heart and her desperation to make some sort of difference was overtaking her sense of reason. She could only squeeze her eyes shut and bury her face into his shoulder.
"I'm so sorry..."

While in his disconnected state of mind, the only thing happening in Defrosch's head was a cyclic series of splintered moments in his life-- primarily his early days and most of his youth. Defrosch thought. Defrosch remembered.
That was all he felt able to do for his mother right now, and it was eating away at him from the inside. His reaction to Maeve's embrace was so delayed that she might as well have been hugging an oversized rag doll. The Arcosian's eyes would light up, but only for a split-second as he was awoken from his trance as result of a close friend's attempt at comforting him. In that miraculous moment he could analyze just what was happening to him. He was not only sad, but filled with a kind of hatred that he feared. It was the same kind of disgusting loathing of the universe that had long ago broken Zucceta, twisted Bing via metallic undeath, left Etoru vulnerable to a demonic influence, and almost snapped Walker like a twig. Defrosch was staring into an abyss that threatened to destroy him and every ideal he had. The abyss of vengeance.Defrosch's movements and breathing were shaky at best. However, despite this, he managed to hold a hand over his chest. A weak flickering of his ki escaped him and hugged his body tightly before petering out. "Ma҉eve̢-̧- ̢I̢.͏.̨.͠ ̶I͠'m͜ sca͏r͏ed͘.͘.." He was fighting a battle that required fire when he had nothing sparks. "S̵càred̴ of͠ wh͜at̨ I̢ ̡mig̵h͏t do͟ t̶o҉ her mu̸rder͡er̡if͢ ̸I ̀ev͡e͏r̨ see ͘the͞m ͡agąi̧n͠.."Now more than ever, he needed someone that could re-ignite the fire of his soul.

"Defrosch." Maeve simply exhaled, pulling away from the embrace a little. She kept her lower arms wrapped around him, a pair of them on his shoulders and the last two on the sides of his face, cupping his cheeks lightly. "I know you're scared but..." She smiled, looking into his eyes as she squeezed his shoulders. "I know...Deep down... That you are pure." She smiled, tears bubbling in the corners of her eyes as she pulled him back into the hug, rubbing his back lightly with her claws in an attempt to comfort him.
"You aren't a killer. You aren't a bad person. You-"
She frowned, pulling away from the man suddenly as she closed her fists and laid them in her lap. She exhaled slowly, her voice trembling from the strange mixture of emotion fluttering in her heart and soul at the moment.
"You are stronger than me."
She admitted it, her frown growing as she hunched her shoulders and clasped her fingers together. "After my fight with Habana. I wanted to see Zucceta slain for what she did to the world." She remembered standing away from the other fighters as they claimed victory and celebrated. She remembered the contempt she felt for their mercy, it was so foreign to her that she felt it was unjust. "I was so...Angry. I ended up using that anger to kill the general. He just wanted a fresh start and I cut him down for what his comrades had done." His final choke, mocking both her and Bing rang through her ears as she could recall just how easy it was to finish it by severing his head from his neck.
"..."
She looked up, back to the sky. Her visionj was blurry from the tears yet she still continued. Rubbing away the bitterness from her eyes. "...Then. When Zucceta killed Bing. Seeing our rune fade, right after I risked my life defending her planet... It destroyed me." She looked to the lookout. "I...I almost risked Ember's life in a desperate bid to exact some sort of revenge. I was there standing at the gates, pregnant with my sword in hand."
She sighed, looking back down to the tile "I know...As Kami, I need to stand strong and I need to keep my mind and emotion balanced. Yet... In the worst of times. You stood by my side, Defrosch, and supported me where you could. You were my friend, you..." She laughed softly shaking her head. "You were probably a better fit for Kami than I. So...When you ask yourself: 'what you might do upon facing a darkness that vile?' I have faith." She rest on of her hands on his shoulder before looking him in the eye once more.
"...That you'll do the right thing."

Thus, the fire was lit.
Defrosch remained still; utterly stunned by Maeve's speech. Words that once remained unsaid, an unconditional vow of friendship between them and many others that they were each close to and had shared a bond with. Bing, Cerci, Etoru, Scampi, Akemi... The list went on, and on. Something so simple and yet something so complex, it gave them all some form of strength far beyond comprehension. It was like a reflex; even though he was in critical and self destructive state; he wanted to reach out to Maeve, to tell her she wasn't as awful as she seemed to be implying. Even as a pillar of strength, she was hurting too. He couldn't process the right string of words; his expression alone said enough either way. Put simply, it said 'no.''You are not a monster.''You are not weak.'
'You are my friend.'
When their eyes met once again, his were no longer empty. "You..." Lifted out of the depths of fear and hatred, he had returned. Though shaky, he was full of liveliness and colour once again. Defrosch smiled as tears began to flow, and before he could become a complete mess he continued. "Believe in me..."He had just faced a very dark and unpleasant part of himself, and it took a lot of strength. Strength he had gained thanks to his friends.

"Of course I believe in you Defrosch. Your friendship, has proven to be one of the few constants in the insanity that is my life." She let out a soft, comforting sort of giggle as she caught and wiped away his tears on her golden scales. "As I said before: At the best of times, and at the worst of times, you've stayed by my side. I can only hope to do the same." With that she would smile, placing two hands on his shoulders.
"In fact... I believe now is a good of time as any to make good on that emblem purchase you made so long ago." She stood up, pulling away with some reluctance before looking to the entrance of her home. "Please just wait here for a moment." She urged before quickly excusing herself as she 'blinked' out of existence with a drawn out fade. After a moment or two her presence would be able to be felt much deeper within the heart of the lookout.
Moments later, she would return carrying a different teapot. This one was much older looking with a rather worn Kami Emblem on the side. Maeve looked to Defrosch with a solemn look as she set the kettle and the accompanying cup before the Arcosian. She let the suddenly quiet air sit for a moment before she spoke.
"This, is the fabled 'Ultra Divine Water.' It is one of the many artifacts stored here that I, as Kami, protect. It has the potential to not only draw the potential out of a warrior but to kill them should their soul be unworthy. As such, I keep it very secured and only let people of pure souls partake in. It's mystical contents are sought far and wide here on Earth and beyond after all." She explained, sweeping one of her arms out over the pot in a grand motion.
"You've overcome your fear, pain and anguish. I have seen your strength first hand. You are more than worthy to partake in it, should you be willing to place your life on the line." She looked him in the eye, her brows creasing with determination as if she were awaiting a reaction.
"With this power, you can surely bring your mother's killer, and evil like her to justice. You can better maintain the balance of light and darkness in this realm." With that, she would turn away from him and look up to the stars.
"...I'd like to help you in other ways as well. By this point in my life, I feel I've mastered the Rakshasa style of swordplay to a point that I can reliably pass on it's knowledge to others. Should you accept my offer, and wear my family's emblem, I would be honored to take you as my first student." As if to illustrate her point. She would summon Fateburn in a flash of light and rest it's tip into the groove of the tile. The Katchin infused blade reflected the Arcosian's face in it's dark surface. It was almost as if she were trying to show off the weapon without directly handing it to him.
"I am getting ahead of myself though. Will you accept this gift?"

All Defrosch had to do now was listen. Maeve spoke plainly and from her heart, and it seemed as though the Arcosian had done far more good for some people than he had realized. He nodded to Maeve as she stood and faded away with her mystical powers, momentarily befuddled by what she meant. Making good on his earning of the Kami's Emblem? What did she mean? For the time that Maeve was not around, Defrosch slowly got up and looked to the night sky. A cool breeze made its way across the Lookout as he took in a deep calming breath, taking control of his emotions. He stood tall, watching over the world below. Soon enough Maeve would return, carrying with her a clearly beyond ancient tea set, that had the Kami's emblem etched upon it. It all looked like it would turn to dust if you so much as look at it funny! Any magic hunter worth their salt however, knew for a fact that no matter how dusty and busted up something looked, it could still be tough beyond comprehension. A divine water that rewarded the selfless and devoted with their hidden strength, or that reprimanded the greedy and faithless with suffering... "I understand the consequences, I will not entertain any form of hesitation in the face of this trial of my very will that you have presented." To him, it was more than worth the risk. The look of determination in his eyes easily matched Maeve's own. As Fateburn was summoned, Defrosch noticed his reflection in the legendary blade. This was no evil monster behind a magic mirror. This was the truth. This was him. "And it would be an honor to be that first student. I accept."Gently, he took the mystical teacup and kettle very slowly pouring out the Ultra Divine Water out. Handing off the kettle and tray back over to Maeve, Defrosch took a deep breath. Closing his eyes he consumed this mystical drink. At first everything was normal, and he handed the cup back to Maeve as well. The air became still, and the area became slightly colder than usual. A quick ripple of pain rushed up Defrosch's spine as his eyes shot open. In an instant his strength had risen; but it wasn't a violent rise, rather a calming one. "Woah." Defrosch looked at his hands, blinking a few times as if he was now seeing a bit more than he normally would. "I think I'm going the, uh, complete opposite of blind right now. Help."

"...Not much of a reaction." Maeve pondered thoughtfully as she watched Defrosch drink the mystic water somewhat easily. It was then she suddenly felt the swell of ki surge from within him. In a moment he would make a mighty leap. It was the first of many Maeve surmised. The demoness watched on with pride as the Arcosian stepped into his new power. The demoness' many arms crossed as she gave an appraising look of her pupil.
"Why, I'd wager that with just that swig you've come to nearly super saiyan levels." Maeve smirked, the predominance of the saiyans in their friend circles proving to be an apt reference point for her. "In fact, I haven't seen a jump in power level that sudden since I battled Habana when the saiyan's invaded." Maeve commented, her golden eyes almost seeming nostalgic as she thought back to the 'Red Hot Battle' they shared. She couldn't help but wonder how the tides of that fight would have turned had Defrosch been there at the time, though she more so wondered how those two would end up getting along in the first place.
"You know, it's funny. Thinking on it... I don't think you've ever met Habana! Like you: I consider her a dear friend. Perhaps one day you will meet her." Maeve mused as she gave her tail a little wag at the prospect of all of them hanging out together.
"But, let us not dwell on that. How do you feel Defrosch? You look fine! More so than I expected but do you need to sit down? I can walk you inside if need be!" She suddenly spoke, concern flooding her face as she realized that Defrosch could realistically be in a lot of pain after downing the sacred water that had been known to kill others in the past.

The energy that had grown from within Defrosch took a while to settle, the ocular phenomenon persisted even after everything normalized as energy seemed to flicker outwards from his eyes every time he tried to close them. "Seriously, I don't think this is normal." The reawakened hero's expression scrunched up awkwardly to compensate for the current inability to blink or close his eyes. At least he wasn't in any pain because of it.
"Habana?" Defrosch thought back to the time that Maeve described, regrettably that was a time where the use of his True Form dulled his memory recall and that was the form he assumed when he arrived there. "So that's the name of the one you fought near North Capitol? I vaguely remember sensing their Ki at the time." He paused and gave a nervous chuckle. "Yeah, vaguely remember. Crazy, right? Mister Total Recall having a blurry memory? Absolutely bonkers."
Shrugging slowly in response Maeve's concern; his awkward expression relaxed slightly. "Besides the weird vision thing and light muscle bruising from the sudden increase in power, I feel perfectly fine. Nothing a decent rest can't fix. Goodness knows I need one... You too. I didn't want to keep you up in the first place; but you wouldn't stand idly by given my silent outcry for help. Thank you Maeve, most sincerely; thank you."

Maeve took Defrosch's hand into her own. "I'd never leave you to suffer Defrosch, I will always have your back. You are my friend after all." She reassured, one final time before letting go a moment later but not before leaving something in his hand. She walked over to her set of the mystic water and picked it up with care. Her movements were methodical as if she had already done this hundreds of times before.
"I hope you find peace in my words Defrosch. I know you will do great things." She smiled as she faded away blinking back to her room.
...
In his hand would be the emblem he had set aside moments earlier. The emblem of her trust. The emblem...
...Of a hero.
