Cold. It was surely a stinging cold today. Even though he hadn’t reached the peak of the mountains yet, his dark skin could still sense the freezing air that engulfed his body as he was moving his feet across the frozen grass. The air roared across his ears occasionally, but it was a rather pathetic excuse for a roar. At least for him, that was. If the air itself was a living being, a beast, then he would have no trouble scaring it away from his sight. Now, he couldn’t let himself get into a conversation about the wind too much, so the half-breed being made a cracking noise with his neck before advancing. His eyes hadn’t moved away from their target yet; the long line across his path that lead to a faraway valley, a large one so to say. The morning sun was yet to fully pass the horizon, so Raida had went out to gain this day’s supply of nourishment. A smirk appeared on his face by the thought that he might cross paths with one beast or two. Beast is quite the blunt name to describe the species that lived around here, but they were manifold. And, just as any other day in the past, the quite young boy was going to reclaim his place in the food chain…
The valley usually revealed one beast as soon as Raida would step his foot into the land. However, sniffing a few times, he could tell that no rivals had made their preparations for the arrival of the Frozen North’s voice. A letdown engulfed his body and resulted in a sigh, before Raida moved across the trees. No challenges today; on the other side, the peace was wanted now. Even something as the lonely sound of the waving branches would calm down even a guy like him for the time being. He even took time sitting down on the wet grass for a moment, hands on the ground as they would brush across the surface, while his head was uplifted and scanning the area for any future threats approaching… It was very weird. Indeed, weird enough to tighten up his senses and awareness. Thanks to that, he quickly spotted the presence of the day’s first encounter between Raida and another specie; he watched it move across the grass with quite a high speed as if it feared his presence. Breakfast. His fingers drilled into the dirt and gave him a steady foothold as he fiercely charged towards the moving grass. His right hand would crash into the tall plants and soon get a good grab on the fleeing meal. It was a shrew. Quite a disappointing excuse for a breakfast, but food was food. Within a brief moment, the head was gone as he sent the poor animal back to its soul’s rightful residence. The taste was irrelevant as it supplied with small amounts of energy for the first part of the day. He had to move on and search for more food, which would most likely bring him to the hiding pests that resided in the deep valley…
The grass kept getting taller, and soon enough, it was tall enough to cover his entire body when he stood up. He took a quick look around; this part of the valley was idyllic in its own way as it provided with the best hiding spots. Those kinds of spots that predators usually took advantage of. Perhaps they were trying to hide here for some reason… maybe they hid away useful supplies of food. His last breakfast was a pity, so the thought about that made him clench his fists as he leaped across the grass, searching for any signs of movement. Now, where were they? If they dared hid any factors of survival away from him… a raging fire could be seen reflecting from his pupils, green in color and fueled with anger. The grass field was annoyingly large as he kept moving around in circles, lines, zig-zags. It was as if it had no ending, before his ears caught the sound of another present specie. He froze, and bowed down to lay his hands on the ground, steadying him as he sneaked closer to the source of the sound. Judging by its frequencies, it was most likely something big. He couldn’t let his guard down now as he was likely to face a rival soon…
The last wall of grass was pushed away by Raida, revealing a small area of stepped-on grass that worked as a kind of checkpoint for the half-breed. He quickly sniffed around as he couldn’t spot the target in the area, following the strong scent into the shrubbery from where he came from. The dark boy leaped into the open area when he heard the growl of his rival; finally, the bastard decided to show itself. Walking out of the tall grass walls was a 6 feet tall monster, brown in color and showing its long canines to the smaller one. It surely changed a lot since back then, where it was a few feet smaller and not as intimidating as now. The sabre cat approached Raida with rage, seemingly wanting to keep him away from something. That indicated that this place held something very important for the animal; obviously, it should’ve been food. As soon as he realized that, his teeth grinded across each other while his eyes darted into the mind of the sabre cat. Its head moved back first, but confidence was building up in it. The predator growled louder at Raida, approaching the small, seemingly fragile boy with its paws lifting of the drier grass beneath their feet. Its canines were insanely large, and a dangerous weapon to wield. Raida found himself backing off a little as he didn’t see any good reason to engage in combat with the transformed cat from back then. He was getting pushed to a corner; however, despite how wild that its eyes were, HE was the one to get out of this with a chance to survive. Before the sabre cat had a chance to do it, Raida let out a signature voice around the Frozen North; a roar that could be heard several miles away. It was resembling to that of a rather imaginable king of beasts, a dragon of some sort. Luckily, it was enough to remove the confidence from the sabre cat and make it back off to keep itself safe from the obviously superior predator of the day. When it disappeared, his nose caught the scent of something else beneath his feet; something was hidden in the grass. He quickly moved the dry plants away, and to his great luck, fresh meat from a previously slain prey was stored. He stuffed his mouth with the meat, delicious and providing with enough energy for the morning. He wiped the fur off his mouth with the first smile that he made today, a rare sight for anyone to see…
A lake was spotted by him nearby the grass field. The crystal-clear water was yet another refresher of his tensed mind today. It was important to keep the mind at a limit of stress, or the body would suffer from it. Without hesitation, the young saiyan leaped into the cold water and splashed away his earlier thoughts, leaving the remains of the meat to later. As his body soared into the bottom, his thoughts were suddenly replaced with memories. Memories of the past… and of his mother’s face. He wondered how she felt about his present condition now, and if she would be proud of him to survive all by himself. Now now, he couldn’t soften himself too much, could he? He would most likely meet another rival later, so the boy set his feet on the bottom of the lake, then advanced upwards, until he landed on the surface before the meat. Time to find a good and safe place to store the food and keep it away from scavengers, as well as to get a nice rest until the sun found its place at the zenith…
