Thread PL: 4,000 <——— To Be Continued
Tanis had been wandering for quite some time now. Her adventure leading her about the world she struggled to fully understand. It now led her to a place just as foreign as every other location she'd visited — a place filled with wildlife and coursing rivers, like a forest. Strangely enough it also had the grand mesas of the desert. Vast, grandiose spires that rose into the sky in the form of jagged mountains.
The girl wandered through this terrain, her two blades tightly fastened to her back. Her combat boots crushing dirt as she navigated through weaves of bamboo. It had been easily over two days since her journey through this area begun. It had a profoundly calming effect on the woman. She couldn't shake the feeling like it also had a profoundly deep history to it. Alas, one she would likely never uncover.
Tanis soon found shade beneath a particular dense grove of bamboos, forming a canopy tight enough to help her escape the vicious glare of the high noon sun. The 6'3" woman kicked off her boots and removed her socks, watching her toes flex as she enjoyed the break. She'd come to remove a piece of gum from a pocket, popping it into her mouth as eh sweet flavor began to satiate her, pushing off the encroaching feeling of hunger for a little longer.
Tanis shut her eyes. The human, as she relaxed, did not for a second suspect she was being watched. Her days of safe wandering had left her guard down, and her inability to sense Ki left her oblivious to the predator that now prowled not far behind. The glowing eyes of a massive saber-tooth fixed on the woman. It was ready to pounce!

TOMA THE HEROAh, Mount Paozu. Toma always loved this part of the world. Secluded, peaceful. A perfect place to train away from the prying eyes of his colleagues or the Blue Banner. Not that any of the Blue Banner were hardly around any more, other than Vi-Poi and a few of his soldiers. But most of them still couldn't even scratch Toma if they wanted. Not that they'd need to.
Toma could sense the powerlevel of someone young, inexperienced, in the forest. A power level he hadn't sensed before on Earth. An alien? Probably. Earth was the galactic melting pot right now, after all. Did Toma want to go meet this person? Not particularly. He'd just caught a rather delicious Pazou Tuna. At one point, it had been almost hunted to extinction due to it's massive size. Though in the last thousand years, their population had exploded.
On his left shoulder, Toma carried a rather sizeable log, far bigger than his own body. And on that log was skewered his catch, the massive fish that was fit to feed a family of ten humans. Or two Super Saiyans and their babies, which was precisely Toma's intent.
But first, he wanted to see what this new power was. He couldn't sense any malice coming from them. No anger, no intent to harm. They felt... at peace. That was a good thing. Perhaps Toma might make a new friend today. His boots crunched against the dead leaves as he walked into the clearing.
Hearing rustling in the bushes next to him, Toma raised his right arm as the large saber-toothed tiger pounced on him. Opening its jaw, it wrapped its teeth right around Tomas right arm. But something was wrong. It didn't taste the blood of its prey as it normally did, yet it was biting as hard as it could!
Toma looked to the tiger, staring the beast down straight in the eyes. The beast wasn't even leaving a mark on Tomas skin, due to Toma using Ki to reinforce his arm. Waving his arm, he sent the beast flying. Upon landing, the tiger ran scared, bolting out of the area with its tail between its legs.
He'd turn to the female he'd protected, and smile at her. "You know, you shouldn't let your guard down in the middle of the forest like this. As strong as you are, you can still get killed if you're too relaxed."

The lady heard the fuss behind herself. She was late to reach, but she eventually rolled forward. Tanis landed on her feet, looking back at a retreating predator and a man. It took only to look at the log and the fish — both of massive size — to understand he wasn't a civilian, though he also didn't have the eyes of anyone looking for trouble. Somewhere in the leap and late realization of what would've happened should the man not intervened Tanis found her heart racing in her chest, not seeming to have realized the danger had passed.
"H-holy crap!" She exclaimed, "I don't know if I'd have been able to get out of that one..." She mumbled, taking a deep breath. Her body slowly caught up to what her mind realized: there was no imminent danger. Her eyes shifted to the escaping tiger once more. There it went. They returned to the stranger "I know I shouldn't let my guard down, but... I've been out and about for a few days. This place is so peaceful it's easy to forget dangerous things exist here — where I'm from we don't have many predators. Just sand."
Tanis broke into a grin, "I'm 'Tanis'." She greeted him, "I'd shake your hand and thank you, but... It seems they're a little preoccupied already."
She extended to him an offer to carry at least the log.

TOMA THE HEROShe seemed to jump as he looked at her, and he couldn't help but chuckle a little. After a moment, she relaxed. Her remark about not being able to shake his hand made Toma laugh inwardly, scooting the log up his shoulder further, having it securely held with one hand. He needn't any help, after all he'd done this a hundred times.
He smiled, offering out his free right hand to her, smiling. "It's fine, really. I'm stronger than I look. It's a pleasure to meet you, Tanis. My name is Toma." And he'd shake her hand, if she took the offer. "I was actually about to head back to my home to cook up this giant fish, if you'd like to come." He said, deducing that she wasn't from around here. If she was resting here because it was peaceful, she was surely hungry.
"I'm sure you're hungry, too. I've got more than enough here to make room for one more. What'dya say?"

Tanis, thanking the man for saving her life, didn't waste much time in giving him a good, strong handshake. Now that she was closer she'd take a good look at the log. It certainly didn't look light! He wasn't just 'strong'. It seemed like this guy was something else entirely!
"It'd be awesome — yeah, I'll pass by, for sure! I'm a little hungry." She continued chewing on her gum, mowing the flavor from it. Her tongue flickered, pressing the gum against her teeth and soon a bubble formed. It vanished with a rather loud 'pop', behind lingering a sweet, fruity scent. "Want some?" She offered, "It's strawberry!" Tanis pulling herself back, rummaging from her pockets and waving an extra stick of gum in his direction.
"Been living here long?" She asked.

TOMA THE HEROToma waved his single hand at the offer of the gun, politely declining. "Thank you, I appreciate it, but i'm fine. I'm saving my stomach for this delicious beast." He said, as he brought up his hand to his head, pointing his thumb to the massive fish on the log behind him.
At the question of if he'd lived here long, he shook his head. "No, not really. My wife and I moved here about a year ago after we got married. Been here ever since. Well, in this general area, really. We live on an island nearby." He spoke, motioning his head in the direction of the ocean.
"I come here every few days to catch a Paozu Tuna for us. Got two little kids to feed, too. But this is more than enough for us." He said, nodding proudly. There was a certain pride to being the breadwinner of your house, even if Ninjin's turtle lessons brought in most of the actual Zeni.

At the mention of marriage Tanis felt a warm, fuzzy, mellowness spread through her. A happy couple? This was a first she'd met since she got here! "Congratulations." All of her energy and glad tidings was poured into that word. It may not have sounded like much, but she truly meant it.
At the mention of children Tanis just wanted to melt there and then. "Awwww..." Whined the happy little battle-hardened mercenary. "That's so... Great. I haven't had the pleasure to actually hear from a happy family since." She counted on her hands, touching one finger after t he other as she made sure her numbers were correct.
"Ever."
Tanis chewed on her her hind teeth, politely asking the man to lead the way. "So, what's married life like?" She wondered.

TOMA THE HEROHe smiled as she gave her congratulations. Sure, it wasn't much, but she truly ment what she was saying. And that was good enough for Toma. "Thank you." He'd reply, as he began walking towards the ocean. He'd wave a hand for the female to follow him, before continuing deeper into the brush.
"I'd be happy to introduce you. Though it sounds like you're not from the happiest of places. Are you from Earth or another planet?" He asked. She looked human. But then again, so did Toma. And he was a Saiyan. The idea of her being from another world didn't really think of him as very odd.
She then brought up the subject of married life. "Well, think of it like living with your best friend." He said. "I wake up next to her every day. I'm there to comfort her when she needs it, and she's there for me when I need it. We support each other, and build each other back up when we break down. It also helps that she's as strong as I am, and makes a great sparring partner."

She nodded in understanding of his appetite. Some were more wholesome with the way they took care of things. Tanis respected that. The gum she'd offered him would be tossed in the air. Tanis' left heel would tense up, sending her an inch or two inches off the floor. She managed to snatch the gum from the air, doubling down on her portion with the one he rejected.
The woman synchronized her pace with that of the man, "Island, huh? I can't imagine what it must feel like to live in one... I'm not sure if I ever stepped foot IN an island before." She noted, "I don't think I have yet. Not from Earth, you see." She explained, "I come from —" she cut herself off very abruptly. "It was nothing but desert and the ruins of a civilization caught up in warfare."
Tanis was quick and abrupt, obviously avoiding the subject altogether.
She listened to his description of married life. It sounded wonderful, but she'd turn a frown, being quick to cut the quasi-bud of a thought from taking hold. None of that. It was wonderful a select few were able to enjoy the fruit of companionship. It, however, knew it wasn't a possibility for her.
"Sparring partner, huh? I haven't had one of those in eons."

TOMA THE HERONot from Earth, huh? Toma knew that feeling. Hell, his first few months on Earth had been spent living in what was now known as Kami's lookout. He had found it when it was abandoned, and had made his temporary home. He'd even cleaned it up a little. It was the only place he'd found that was safe and out of the weather.
"Hm, do you have a place to stay yet? I'm not from Earth either, so I understand what it's like to be lost. If you need a bed, my wife and I have an extra room you can use for a while. Though... you'll have to help us out around the house in exchange." He said, nodding. While Toma was generous, he didn't want to be too generous. The deal was already pretty sweet.
"We even have training equipment for martial arts training if thats your thing. Ever heard of a gravity chamber?" He asked, before stopping at the water, and beginning to float into the air. "The island's a few miles south of here. Should only be a minute or two to get there."

Tanis had pride, but that wasn't what kept her from accepting his offer. She was hesitant, "I'm... Not sure." she admitted. "I've had a good amount of success on the road. I've grown deeply as a person, although as a fighter I've grown stagnant at best — rusty at worst." She supposed she didn't have to explain herself TOO much, afterall he had JUST saved her from a stupid beast.
Tanis had a brief pause. The soft embarrassment born of her confession quickly dissipating as she spoke: "A gravity chamber? Training equipment?" That linked perfectly what what she just said, "I had a hitch you were a guy who knew a thing or two." Said the swordswoman, "I'd love to stay with you and your family — if they are okay with it. I mean, what a better opportunity than to train with a martial artist couple, right? I'm sure I could pick something up from just watching your wife and you go at it!"
It wasn't until he began floating that she realized what it meant — that they lived on an island. It clicked in her head like the slow turning get of a grandfather clock's gears. The slow process more than visible on her face. Slowly she went from elation to heavy, uneasy displeasure. Her eyes fixated on his feet and how they refused to touch the ground.
"Right... Island. Meaning surrounded by water..."
