Heavy Weights on
--
A small, pink space pod with black detailing took off into the night sky from its lake side perch. The Pink Lady set a course for Vegeta as its inhabitants settled in to sleep on the way. A small girl and her Nanny and, yes, of course the kitten named Pounce.
The further into the forest the little girl wandered, the emptier it felt. The trees, ancient and massive, shaded giant swaths of the forest floor to entomb whatever managed to grow in yearly blankets of leaves. A deer grazed on a patch of grass, its brown fur undoubtedly warmed by its sunshine bath through a break in the dense, green canopy above. And still the child walked alone, winding her way through thick and thin of the trees until she got through to the other side. Here there were no cars to give her a much needed lift if she wanted one, all empty streets but instead of pavement there lived dirt and rocks and animals of the forest. A squirrel looked at her curiously as she wandered through until finally, Kay-El Coliflo just had to know how much further. Taking to the air until a clear path through branches no longer existed, she used hands, feet and tail to climb up through the trees when there was no more space for easy flight.
This was more than just a trip to recruit someone new for her brother’s organization, The White List, it was a chance to see old friends once again and properly say goodbye. Who knew how long it would be until she next came to Earth? And now all that was over, she was going back to Pin and Vegeta and all those new friends she met there. Once atop she peered outward in a circle, eyes widening in surprise at how big Earth seemed to have grown in her absence. True, it was always large, but now it seemed distorted or strange to her. Stranger even than when she first arrived.
The world seemed a darker place, more threats lurked in the shadows than ever, and it was all Kay-El could do to run. Taking off from tree to tree some thing crashed through behind her, knocking down whatever stood in its path like some large creature out of a horror story. Not too proud to admit she ran like, well, like a little girl, the little girl spread her wings to fly. As she did the shadowy monster caught up to her, knocking down the tree she was using as her launch point and the next thing she knew was falling…
falling…
Kay-El woke with a jolt, dark blue hair looking black in the darkness, plastered to her face and neck in a layer of sweat that felt deep enough to rival an ocean. Staring out into the darkness of space, she remembered now - she’d left Earth behind to go back to Pin and Vegeta and everyone else there. A dark pit in her stomach made her wonder if it really was the right thing to do, after all. No, she’d not allow herself to think like that. Pin awaited her on Vegeta along with everyone else she met on that strange planet. And she wanted to be part of this shiny, new world Pin offered her including the good, the bad, and the ugly. If need be and given the chance to do it all over again, her choices remained the same.
Looking over at Nana who snoozed in her chair, the small black kitten curled up in the caretaker’s lap, Kay-El smiled and drifted back to sleep, as well.

falling…
falling...
the light was fading fast.
