The saiyan Zucceta rests her broken body, with her flesh and bone slowly, painfully knitting itself back together. Lady Death darkly dreams of the past, of her brethren now only a week dead. But in her memory they were alive, mighty and vibrant, duly dancing the dance of conquest
The door to her prison cell opens abruptly, allowing a thin stream of sickly morning light into the tiny room. Zucceta raises her head to the door, squints at the sudden brightness and smiles. "Boys boys boys... it's only been a month. I thought my sentence was solitary for a decade?" Twenty-eight separate notches had been marked on the walls, one a day if a day was measured in two tiny meals. Her stomach gurgles.
"Orders from the government. You're to be pardoned..." the orderly grins, "though I hear what they have planned for you in return for this pardon ought to be delightful."
Zucceta raises an eyebrow. Though the official she had decimated was a has-been, it was still one of the worst offenses under the current government, to strike a politician - and kill them, too! The first surprise had been when she wasn't executed on the spot.
And now this, a reduced sentence? And such a reduction!
She can't help think this is a trap... but what choice does she have but to rot here or leave?
"Fine."
She is led through a maze of corridors and a labyrinth of streets. The guards keep her arms in their grip, but the gesture is futile - she allows them to lead her on simply because of intrigue, not because they could force her. Saiyan guards had to be a minimum strength to join the prison system... but Zucetta was above even them.
Eventually, she was brought to what seemed to be an indoor stadium. It was spacious and brightly lit, but there was no crowd or officials, no judge or jury. Instead, their was a group of three saiyans. The guards release Zucceta's arm, and she turns to them and hisses, before revolving back to this new group.
They all had the hallmarks of warriors actively serving the Saiyan regime: scarred bodies, scarred armour, stares that would cause a baby to burst into frightened tears.
"The execution squad, presumably?" She purrs, voice soft, eyes dreadful. Her fire would not be extinguished so easily.
A pair of short saiyans, presumably brothers, glance at each other. "She's way too young." One says to the other. The elder nods, turning to the guy standing in the middle. He opens his mouth... then closes it, silenced by the leader's stare.
"My name is Cherimoya, but you will refer to me as Lord Death."
Zucceta chortles. "Little cheesy, ain't it?"
Lord Death smiles. "Indeed. We decided on the gimmick the same time we picked the name... Apocalypse Incorporated." He chuckles. "Although, for many, we are the end of the world."
Zucceta stares at him. "Have you come to end mine?"
"In a sense. The one you know is gone. You are the newest member of our 'corporation'."
She raises an eyebrow. "I don't have a choice, huh?"
He grins darkly, canines flashing. "You've got to survive the initiation first."
The two brothers, Famine and Plague, fade into the background, leaving Zucceta and Cherimoya in the stadium. He drops into a loose 'tiger'-esque stance, hands in front of his chest, fingers curled, and she into a standard fighting pose, legs drawn apart, arms bent.
And then she is on the floor, her breath knocked out of her body. I didn't even see him move! She has time to think, before she jumps back into a combat stance. She hears him chuckle and spins around... but he's not there. Instead he stands to her left, no longer in a battle stance. She swings with all her speed and might but her fist simply fazes through his image, a light kick taking her in the back of the head. She stumbles forwards and swings back around, before feeling something land on her head. Her eyes scroll up and she sees two combat boots.
"Well. You follow my movements better than most saiyans, but my scouter indicates you only have half the power-level I do. The government held you in such high praise, too!" he chuckles.
Zucceta hisses. "How dare you mock me, bastard!" She swings upwards. Cherimoya vanishes, appearing in front of her. He swings towards her gut.
She had predicted this move, and catches the fist with one hand. Even that takes all of her effort. Still, Cherimoya didn't have time to hide his surprise. "So, you are battle worth-"
The self-proclaimed Lord Death takes a huge angry wave of red energy, released from Zucceta's free hand. Despite the difference in power, the elder saiyan is knocked back - his armor crumbling away. His chest, a network of scars, is the last thing Zucceta sees before a swift chop comes from the back, knocking her down once again.
"Impressive! I spoke too soon."
"I'm not... yet.. done!" She huffs, wiping a trickle of blood from her lip.
Cherimoya waves a hand dismissively. "We can, and will, spar more once you've been fed and properly outfitted for our squadron. But for now...
"Rise from your knees, Lady War! Our next mission, your first, is in two days. Eat. Rest. Don't die."
"And I should be Herostratus, who put torch to the temple."
The station was known as the Epoch Star, a moon-sized structure that had once been home to a proud people known as Neejarans, after the destruction of their home world. These people had been almost annihilated one thousand years previously by a being known as the Gladiator, or the Godless, and legends held he was a wrathful golden saiyan. The Epoch Star had since been property of the Saiyan Empire, though influence was waning.
The remaining Neejarans, treated as slaves, had finally risen up and ousted the saiyans on the world. They had been executed as tyrants, and the leader of the resistance had informed the saiyan government of their new independence... which they took as well as to be expected.
Four pods slam through the docking bay shields, puncturing holes in the metal fortress. The weaker Neejaran workers scream and flail a useless arc through the extremely powerful force of suction the vessels had created, the winged warriors being sucked into space and choking, choking, choking until their eyes popped out of their heads or their breath stilled in their lungs, their hearts stilled in their chests. Within ten seconds, an emergency shutter rattled across the holes, leaving the four smouldering pods and a group of pissed-looking Neejaran's who had been strong enough to withstand the surprise attack.
The spacecraft doors burst open in unison, the original incarnation of Apocalypse Incarnated standing united. The meeker of the Neejaran forces muttered something, something along the lines of the 'Godless reincarnated' as the squad assembled in front of them.
"Your old masters are displeased," began Lord Death with a smirk, "though if you were to submit once again to rule under the saiyan empire, your numbers will only have to be decimated. Continued insubordination will need to annihilation."
"Go fuck yourself, ape!"
Cherimoya glances around at his comrades. "Well, ladies and gentlemen, I'll take that as continued insubordination. Commence operation End of Epoch!"
And the four horsemen rode.
The average Neejaran warrior had a power-level of one and a half thousand power-level, about the same as an average warrior saiyan in the normal army. Apoc Inc's weakest members, Plague and Famine, had three thousand each, and their unique style of team fighting effectively tripled their results. Zucceta, our fresh Lady War, now held a solid four-thousand power level, the result of recovering from her injuries, and Lord Death sat at a comfortable seven thousand.
The Neejaran resistance suffered blitzkrieg, the saiyans a whirlwind of terror and violence, a brutal empirical justice. In a true sense of the word, they were a lightning war, tearing through the army towards the command center of the base, the throne room.
The door to the throne room is blasted open, thick steel no match for Zucceta's raw ki power. Smoke rises as each saiyan warrior steps through, one at a time, the newest member first, her eyes dark and devastating in their chaotic beauty.
The Neejaran monarch, whom had once been the leader of the resistance and now proclaimed himself their king, rose from the ornate steel chair that had once been the saiyan official whom had overseen the Epoch Star's rule. His armor was a rich golden, thick and defensive, and his purple cape flowed majestically behind him. Zucceta smiles. Despite her ambition, her crazed desire to erase every god-damn Neejaran from this universe, she could sense that this one truly had a warrior's talent to him.
"You're the last fighter left. You know that, right?" Cherimoya says. His voice was neutral, tone merely informative. Zucceta had noticed during his combat that he was methodical in his moves, taking the most efficient route possible to dispatch his foes. He took no personal pleasure in the killing, and only some from the actual fighting. To him, the job was merely a job, the lives taken only part of what he referred to as an 'acquisition'. Before he had been hired contractually by the saiyan army for this squad, he had been an independent bounty hunter, which was where he derived a lot of his jargon from.
The Neejaran king shakes his head. "How can you monsters not mourn for those you've killed?! Have thee no souls?" He booms, purple aura blasting up around his solid form.
"It's just a job-"
"- and it's pretty fun!" Zucceta finishes with a cackle.
Cherimoya growls. "Well, War, you can handle this one."
The golden king takes a fighting stance. He stands taller, almost seven and a half foot. Zucceta merely places a hand on her hip. "C'mon, boss, this guy? I can take him blindfolde-"
She would have finished her sentence were it not for being embedded in the ground, her nose out of place. Despite the great armour, the Neejaran lord had moved at speed. It was the same technique Cherimoya had used before, only days previously. She shifts her body out of the concrete, wiping a trickle of blood from her nostril as she rights herself. "Dammit."
How could she take on an opponent she couldn't see move? Well, she'd had time to give it some thought...
She closes her eyes. "'Mon then!"
Cherimoya raises an eyebrow. Was she mad or -
The monarch moves again, so fast that even the three more experienced members of Apocalypse Incorporated barely behold it. But, Zucceta was relying on a much different instinct than the one those three were, a much older one. Predators and hunters had used it for thousands of years before the rise of basic civilisations, on all worlds and stars. That sense was sound.
The shifting of a mass as great as the Neejaran's at the speed of which he moved was enough. She felt a breeze, and heard the move of armour - he was hardly noiseless. Quickly shifting her weight, she grabs the incoming attack with one hand, ultra-powerful finger muscles grappling the wrist and crushing the armour.
The king cries out in pain, fragile wrist muscles shattering. "Agh, how the hel-"
"ShutthehellupandDIE!" Lady War roars, swinging her free arm right around and through the king's chest with the almost explosive force. Blood and guts erupt from the golden armour, crimson liquid trickling down the expensive, ornate battle dress without apology.
The king smiles, blood in his teeth. "Feels good... doesn't it..?" he murmurs, before his body falls limp.
"You've got something on your arm."
Lady War smiles, pushing the corpse away. "C'mon. Let's blow this joint."
The four horsemen sit in space, an artificial ball of oxygen generating from their pods. They stare down at the rotating station, one that could almost be mistaken from a moon at range.
The warriors were all charging an attack, but Lady War didn't know yet what to name hers. The crimson red energy was impressive, but...
It came to her in a second. "I'll call it...
"WARHEAD!" She screams, releasing a thunderous wave of energy.
"DEATH'S HOWL!" Cherimoya howled, adding his own energy to her wave.
"Bubonic Blast!" yelled Lord Plague, while his brother, Lord Famine released the "Scarcity Wave". Well, they had to work with the names they were given.
The four energies combined were more than enough to finish the station. Plunging through the hull of the satellite, it would rupture the core... igniting the mass into a fiery explosion, pieces of shrapnel lighting up the very star system in a chaotic wave of entropy.
Cherimoya chuckles. "Welcome to Apocalypse Incorporated, kiddo."
