-Flashback to a little after Sei's Creation-
"Hey 42, come over here. I got some human-y type things I wanna show you. If you're ever going to be the human that you want to be, you'll need to see this!"
Sei had been sitting in his pod. He was reading many of the classics of human history, mostly including Shakespeare, Dickinson, and Hemingway. The particular novella he was on was the Shakespearean play, Macbeth. He was finding himself feeling somewhat close to what human emotion would dictate as "joyful", but he would see it more as himself just being "pleased" with the work in question.
Looking up from his book, he saw the doctor, his creator, and father, all in one person. Dr. Griffon Connaleer was a man of many talents, one of which included creating Sei. He had failed technically 41 times before, but this time had hit the mark. The good doctor was looking at Sei jubilantly and smiling very happily. It was clear to the android that he would have to watch another of his creator's favorite movies, but it didn't really bother him. He liked to bond with his father whilst watching these movies. There was a part of him that wished it would never end, but something inside him knew that it just would. There can never be too much of a good thing, but this good thing was bound to run out sooner or later.
Giving a human smile at his father, Sei answered him promptly.
"Sure father, I'll be right over. It's just going to be another movie, isn't it?"
Attempting a human laugh, Sei would go along with it and chuckle with his father. The android knew his dad liked it when he called him as such; father. It was a human word which held so much meaning to it, so much so that it actually made a once cold heart-ed man of science be able to act this goofy and light of heart.
"You know it! This time, it's The Ghost Busters so you better prepare! This one is such a classic! You'll learn a lot about human nature from a film like this, son."
It was interesting to Sei how words held such meaning. Just like the word 'father' for the doctor, when Sei was called 'son' it actually made him feel something, despite his entirely robotic nature. There was always such a power behind words which was exactly why the android studied them so much. It was probably the most fascinating thing about human culture to the android. Communication through a spoken word form was something indicative of just a higher intelligent life form. If Sei went to a college in his life, he would most likely study language.
Walking over to his father, Sei was offered a seat next to him, which he android took gleefully. His father turned the VCR on, and the television began to play. It was old, and so was the movie, but neither of them really cared. It was more about spending time together than anything else. His father had failed 41 times to create what Sei is now, and that put a heavy emotional and mental toll on him. The android would always do everything he could to show that he cared for his creator, especially when it came to these kinds of old movies. Although they generally didn't do much for him, he could understand human nature slightly more with each movie, and he could also laugh along with the creator for a bit. It was truly a fantastic relationship that the two had, one that Seikatsu would have loved to hold onto forever. It's such a shame that things have to end at some point.
The movie was very informative, letting the android know exactly who to call in the case of a ghost in his neighborhood. His father was very much enjoying it, the curves of his lips almost always pointing upwards, showing his clear love for the movie. Sei was very happy he was enjoying it. Tomorrow would be another day, but it wouldn't be a happy memory.
-Day of Missing father-
The android never needed to sleep ever, his energy being mostly infinite, but his father still put him back in the pod where he was created that night. Griffon told him that he was to be performing minor alterations to make Sei more human which Sei of course obliged. He was turned off in the middle of the night and when he woke up in his pod, he assumed it was all corrected. Releasing the inner latch to the pod, the android stepped out when he realized he was turned back on but was still in the pod. Looking around, he realized quickly that the doctor was here. It was a pretty small space they were in, so he didn't have to look very hard. Walking over to the lab table, it was clear there was a note that was for the android on the table. Picking the note up, he read it nearly instantaneously, but he went over it a hundred times.
#42,
I know I'm a failure. I was a failure in the work of robotics, I was a failure in the art world, and I was a failure in life. I couldn't get what you are down until the 42nd try and it was so simple. I wanted so badly for you to be human that I missed out on what is most important to be a human. I'm glad I could raise you for the time that I had. I did some things in my past that I'm not proud of that don't allow me to be with you still, and I'm sorry for that. I leave you not because I want to, but because I think it will be better for your future. That is where my main point comes in. #42, I want to give you a name, if you'll take it. Seikatsu. I think it's a name fitting you well. If it's not too much, I also have another request. I want you to travel around the world. Around the galaxy, finding the meaning of "life". People have struggled since the beginning of time and nobody can say for sure. Find your meaning and the meaning of life for me Sei...son. And when you're feeling unsure, I want you to know that no matter where I end up, I love you.
Griffon Connaleer (dad)
The rest of the story goes the same, Sei would take on the name left by his father and would leave the cave for the first time in his life. He had plenty of records on the world so it wouldn't be too difficult to find his way around or make it in the world, but he would certainly never forget his father.
-Present-
Sei, the android, was floating in the middle of the air above the cave where he was created. He had been mostly around the world and met a couple of different people, some a lot more interesting than others. Once he left the cave, it was never his intention to find the doctor that created him. In fact, he was much more driven to complete the goal that had been left for him. No where in the note did it ask for Sei's help, or even a location for him to be found at, so the android had taken that as a "leave me alone, let me do this" kind of thing. However, after going to West Capitol and meeting with one of Earth's strongest warriors, Reikiko, she had given him an interesting answer to the questions he posed to her. It was a matter of duty to her, like it was to all that had wanted to save the Earth. Most were not doing it for themselves, but for the sake of others. This answer had resonated with Sei in the most fascinating way. After their meetup, the android decided he would blast off back to his home cave, which is where he was now.
After floating for a while, the android decided to sit atop the cliff that hung over the now blocked entrance. There were many thoughts floating through his perplexed mind, the foremost being whether or not he should really do this. He had been rationalizing it in his mind through different ways.
The Doctor never told me NOT to come, so that is one way to think of it. I am his son, or at least he would refer to me as such. In any novel or movie I have record of, generally when on good terms, the son goes to save the father regardless of circumstance. This is an instance where that is valid, is it not?
Sei would sigh. He didn't have any breath, but he had known this to be a human custom when the person was conflicted. Sei would decide to steel himself. There would be no harm in going to look for his creator or he would've specifically told him not to go looking. With this rational, there should be no harm in going to look for his father. Not quite sure where to look, Sei decided he would go back into the cave to look for any kind of clues. Pushing the giant rock back out of the way, the android revealed a path back into the area of his conception.
It was a small cave, only one totally room of a couple hundred square feet. There was a pod which Sei was mostly made in, a super computer hooked up to it, a lab desk, a small recreational area, and a fridge and restroom. The idea was that Griffon would make his final project and then if he failed, he would blow up the place, effectively killing himself and what would be evil Sei. It never had to come to that, which the both of them were grateful for, and thus the room would stay here, only touched by time.
Looking around, Sei would open the desk and see a few journals as well as some notes. Flipping through, the android tried his hardest to not look at any sensitive information besides where his creator had lived before the cave. After a few minutes, Sei had found that it could possibly be North Capitol, as well as finding his fathers old address. Truly a success, he put back the journal and was careful to close the drawer in case his father would come back and find he had been snooping around. Moving towards the exit, Sei looked back to the cave. Memories came flooding back, mainly due to him remembering it all, but also due to the nostalgia. The next time he came back, it would be with his father or not at all. Giving a slight nod to the cave, the young android headed back outside and pushed the rock back in place. It was much more difficult to do with his increased weight, but he still managed with little struggle.
Looking back towards the city nearby, he didn't have much of a reason to hurry, so Sei decided he would walk this time. He really wanted to go over in his head what he would say to the Doctor once he saw him.
Hello again, father. I noticed you were missing from our little home so I decided to come save you? Negative, sounds too much like he needs me. Hey there dad, did you miss me? No, too emotional. I should act like an adult human.
The android struggled heavily on how he wanted to approach the situation. He wanted the perfect balance of concern, joy, mature, firm, and human emotion. It was too much to ask of the young android, but he could only strive for perfection in this case. He didn't want his creator to run away from him again, he would rather just stay with him this time. Perhaps he had been a failure after all, and that note was to soften the blow. He hadn't figured that to be the case until recently, but it was still plausible. After all, his creator was near to being a perfect human in terms of intellect and cleverness. It would be impossible for another to capture him in any sort of means.
Walking down to the city, Sei noticed the skyscrapers and the cars just inches about the ground racing off to various directions. The android would have no idea where any of them were going, but they still continued on. It was thought-provoking to Sei that it was truly a matter like that in life, that it just kept going anyway. The sun would hit these cars and reflect back, making the skyscraper a deep blue in color. It was very cold up here in the north, and most people had on protective clothing. Sei of course, being an android, didn't even feel hot or cold in any situation, so he only had on his usual clothing. An all black gear with baggy pants, shirt, and black boots. Around his black shirt was a white sash that hung from his left shoulder down to his right side. The sleeves on his black shirt were rolled up, revealing all of his forearm and hands. His clothing was truly a symbol of who he was as a person, being the perfect mixture of love and hate. Those that walked around him gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0605651.txtgave him very odd looks, as if he didn't know he was wearing pretty loose clothing. He would give a blank stare in response, his lack of emotion on the subject shining through to them.
His walk had taken him about thirty minutes, but in that time he had come up with a few different ideas on what he would tell his father when he saw him again, but he was too embarrassed to even admit them to himself. When it came down to it, the android known as Seikatsu could be unemotional to everyone except his own creator. That was a man he could truly open up to, someone that Sei felt comfortable around and not awkward. It was probably due to the same man being very open to Sei as well. When there was a give and take such as theirs, the android felt fine with having his true self known. It would be difficult to get him to display anything other than indifference.
Looking around and scanning the housing in front of him, Sei eventually found the house he was looking for. Just like all the houses around, this one was white and had a round top. It was small in terms of square feet, but all of them were. Presumably the doctor had lived alone before this so space probably wasn't much of a factor. Sei did notice that there was more cumulative ice build up on the top of the structure than on others surrounding it. To Sei it certainly was a sign that nobody had been inside here for a while and that this was definitely the place. Walking up to the front, Sei moved his hand to the doorknob and quickly pushed the door open, shattering the lock and opening the door quietly and efficiently. Taking his first step inside, he was careful to not make a single noise. It would be costly to him if someone were to hear his footsteps and alert him to some sort of authorities. In that kind of case, Sei would lose any and all progress on this idea and essentially be in the dark when it came to clues.
Fully opening the door, Sei glanced in and used his scanner to triple check his readings outside. There didn't appear to be anyone on the inside, although the android still wanted to be very cautious about things. Once inside, the android would shut the door, closing it completely, and then start to assess the surrounding he was in. The house appeared to be pretty normal, handing one room direction in front of him,and two rooms off to the sides. The kitchen had a cleared mahogany table, a sink with no dishes, a pantry with old cereal boxes and non perishables stacked row to row, and a fridge that had most of the parts stripped down with nothing in it. Checking the other two rooms, Sei confirmed that nobody was in the house. There was a bedroom that the android assumed belonged to his father with a bathroom connected to it. The bedroom still had a box spring, but no mattress on top. The bathroom was also void of anything. Checking around more, Sei had almost determined that there was nothing of value for him to find in this house until he reached a small latch in the ground in the corner of the room of his fathers. Looking at it curiously, Sei took his metal hand and lifted the latch with ease,; it, being a trap door, revealed a ladder to climb down. The black haired robot decided to just jump on down as it was only about 20 feet.
Landing carefully, Sei turned his head slowly in anticipation for what he'd find. Astonished, Sei realized that his father had created an underground laboratory, presumably before his move to the cave. It had trophies and degrees that lined the walls from various colleges and organizations.
I wonder why he never spoke about his achievements with me. I would have been proud, although I already am.
This revelation wasn't surprising to Sei, but it was a confidence booster. He know fully believed that there was no possible way that his father could have been captured so easily, so perhaps he wasn't at all? With a human smile on his face for the first time in a long time, Sei walked over to the trophies and inspected them. With varying degrees on each, the next being more impressive than the last, and some having words that Sei actually had to look up in his database, he was very content with his creators accomplishments. With almost an air of arrogance, Sei gave a smirk as if to say, 'if he didn't accomplish at least this, I'd be embarrassed!'. The moment was actually ruined by what came next.
