The last time she went into the gravity chamber the day before, she’d felt the pull of the extra, synthetic force, but doubling it made even breathing that much harder. That times ten she started the day before, it was nothing compared to this. Doubling the gravity affected her more than she expected it to. Her feet moved slowly and it was a struggle just to rise high enough in the air to set the dials and program the simulation. Harder than the day before but not by too much, she set the dial to random, wondering at any nasty surprises coming her way.
The child fell more than set down on the floor, the gravity pulling and weighing all forty pounds of her down to the sheet metal that covered the old storage room . And then the simulation began. The setting was a random forest on Earth, one she hadn’t been to yet, and humans surrounded her saying how they had to end the threat. It took her a moment to realize the simulation programmed her as the threat to Earth and she tensed, listening for the out of place rustle of leaves or cracking of branches. Her kitten Pounce slept soundly on the little white blanket with bunnies and bears on it Kay had brought from home and Nana was probably sleeping, too, in her own room aboard the Pixie Blue. And the young Hybrid stood alone in the Gravity Chamber to try and master a good few skills.
Perhaps it was finally getting a good night’s rest, or many it was the bundle of nerves and excitement raging within her, either way she stood on alert and ready to handle anything the simulation threw at her. Despite the awkwardness of learning to move at the higher gravity, she found her footing, eventually, and had at it. In the end, she came out exhausted but feeling like she owned more of her power. The fight was brief but brutal and she sported a few more cuts and bruises than before, and while she’d probably feel them the next day, at the moment she wore them with pride.
